I have been a bit of a big fan of this since I saw it at my sister's house after my nephew was given it as a gift when he was first born. However I thought it was a little bit expensive initially but have changed my mind since buying it. Saying that, I was lucky enough to see this on an Amazon deal of the day and snapped up a few as gifts for babies that were arriving in the next few weeks. It does come in a variety of colours but I chose the yellow one as we don't necessarily know the sex of the babies. As is normally the case with Amazon the packages arrived promptly and within the time frame stipulated.Upon opening the packages I was very impressed it is evident what it is from the packaging and shows the colour that you have purchased on the frontBoth the children we have purchased this for love it. In fact forget children, I want one for my room! It does say on the box that the product is only suitable for children above the age of 36 months I would disagree with this because although they can't physically play with it they love it from birth. It does attach securely to the side of the court so you have no worries about it falling off. You then turn it on and a light show starts; there is music that accompanies the show and this can be timed so it will turn itself off after a maximum of 10 minutes. There are three different tune so you might get sick of them quite quickly but baby will be sure to love them. It is just a shame that you don't have the option just to leave the light show running- it only has timer options lasting either 5 or 10 minutes so if your child wants it on longer you'll have to go in and redo it.The light show itself is brilliant it isn't too bright so that the child is kept awake but it is a series of patterns stars etc that project onto the ceiling. The patterns revolve rather than staying static. I found it very hypnotic as did the children who have used it. Sadly you cannot have it so that just the light show plays it must be accompanied by the music so if your child does not like sound when they're going off to sleep this might not be the best product for you. As mentioned in the description you do need batteries for this and as I have not use the product personally I can't testify as to how long the batteries last but I do know that my sister said she has only had to change hers once in 7 to 8 months which I think personally is pretty good. She doesn't use it for every nap thoughOverall I think this is an absolutely superb product even paying full price it is great value for a gift upon the birth of a baby or for a baby shower. You can get different colours if you don't know the sex I believe they come in yellow pink and white. I would not hesitate to purchase another one for a child in the future and when my partner and I have children this will be a must have.

I bought this for my firstborn and gave it as a present during the baby shower. I never imagined that 5 years on he still has to play the light show before he goes to sleep. I guess it's become part of the bedtime routine but maybe thats more testament to how successful the Tomy First Year Starlight Dreamshow is.It has a choice of three very soothing medlodies and projects a revolving scene. In our case we have teddy bears and stars. You can set this to play for 5 or 10 minutes but there is no option to only have sound, or only have the projection. You have to have both at the same time and there is only one sound level by default.Whilst it's been great for my son, it's cost me an arm and a leg in batteries. And as my bedroom is next to his, my head is literally 2 foot away from the lightshow with nothing but a wall between us. When my son wakes up at 3 in the morning and decides to play the soothing sounds to lull him back to sleep, I have to endure being woken up, followed by 10 minutes of lullaby music, quietly raging under my duvet, praying for the time when he doesn't need it anymore.5 stars despite my gripes. My son loves it.......me, not so much.

This little yellow star has worked a treat on our 7 week old daughter. Prior to purchase she was hyper and active from 7pm through to 11pm with out fail, no matter how quiet and calming her enviroment was. Now using this light as part of her routine she is asleep by 8pm. Please do not take this to mean the light is turned on and your baby will go straight to sleep. In our case the light provides a source of distraction for her which calms her, allows her to feed effectively and as a result settle down to sleep without the hassle of previous nights. As previous reviews have stated you cannot have the light on only. It's music and light or nothing. Which in our case is fine as the music adds to the effect. It's also gives you 5 or 10 mins timed options which at first appears not to be enough but is actually perfect. The music reminds me of a jewellery box and is quite loud which may be a problem if you intend to hang it on the side of the cot.The images are nicely coloured and as a resullt the light created in the room is soft and soothing. Our daughter is calmer going to sleep and we have our evenings back so this was well worth the money.

Once my baby could stand he took every opportunity to do so, this included nap time. At this point we had to remove the mobile but he struggled to go to sleep without a lullaby. I remembered having one of these when I was little and loving it so decided to give it a go as the price wasn't going to break the bank. I have been so pleased with it, it is perfect for what I needed. It has at least 5 different tunes which can be switched by pressing a button. It has a little lever on the side which switches it from running for 5 or 10 minutes. The projector works very well on the ceiling, it doesn't have a huge range of images, but then I wouldn't want a lot as it might overstimulate him.My little boy is now 15 months and when he wakes in the night you hear him switch it on via the button on the back and fall back asleep. The batteries are screwed in which gives me peace of mind as I know hes not going to start sucking a battery in the middle of the night. As far as i'm concerned this is an excellent item and I have subsequently bought it for every friend that has recently had a baby. Excellent value for money.

This is a great product to help get your little one to sleep at night or just to give them some entertainment when having quiet time.If you have it pointing up at the ceiling, it puts a large circle of light with pictures in it. Do not buy this product if you are looking for something that projects images around the whole room.It has 3 different songs on it and you can set it for 5 mins or 10 mins. However, you don't have the option of having just the projection or music on, you must have both on and there is no volume control. This can be rather annoying if you are using a baby monitor or are sharing a room with your little one.I also found that the plastic strap that hooks it on to the cotgot in the way of the battery cover and if you are using this as a free standing object rather than hooking it on to the cot, you should remove the strap or it will cause a shadow on the projection image. That said, those are the only faults I could find with this product. Overall it is fantastic, my son loves it and I am glad I chose this one over the others available. Excellent value for money.

I bought this for when my grandson comes to stay. It's a lovely light show that works brilliantly projected onto the ceiling, it's very clear with soothing lullabies that my grandson loves. I've seen reviews that moan about the volume of the music as there's no volume control, but i have to say unless your child is particularly sensitive to noise or has a hearing problem this is perfect, you do have control over a 5 or 10 minute play time but the Dreamshow can be turned off during this.I use it on a travel cot which is quite difficult to attach it to, but in fairness it's designed for a standard cot, it was my choice to do this and it is achievable. It can also be placed on a unit next to the cot which works too. It's like anything nothing is going to suit everybody, sometimes it's trial & error, but I do feel the negative comments for this product are unjust, I thoroughly recommend it.. Excellent value for money..

great for the price. takes x4 AA batteries. I don't find the music to be too loud as others have found. I think it's just loud enough but could be covered with a bit of masking tape across the small speaker, if you felt it was too loud for you. It has a 5 minute and 10 minute timer option and will go off automatically when selected time runs out. It does not cover all of bedroom ceiling but covered a circular area large enough to cover viewing area above a crib or cot. The pictures shown will move along the ceiling as the music plays. This device comes with a safe strap that allows it to be attached anywhere on a large cot or small crib. Product is steady and light enough to be sat on top of drawers or shelves on its own,or sat in the middle of the room on the floor if wanted. Good product and worth the price. :)

This product is brilliant for putting baby to sleep and to keep them distracted when feeding. Our Daughter is always trying to do two things at once. whilst my wife or I try to feed her she is always moving about and trying to feed her is like trying wrestle whilst one hand is tied behind your back.Since we got the Starlight Dreamshow we put the projector next to us facing the ceiling and our daughter looks in one position so makes it a lot easier to feed. For the bed time it is excellent as well. Just place your baby in the cot and this lulls them to sleep most of the time.I have to thank every other reviewer as we would not have found this and loved it so much.Makes our lives a little better and with a baby a little is a lot.I would recommend this product to all new mothers.

Night after night we've struggled to get our little one off to sleep and night after night were up and down the stairs trying to settle him. We saw this online and knew that he would love the lights. We ordered it, received it the next day and used it that night. He loves it, when we switched it on his face lit up and a big small with laughter followed. He then just watched the lights going round and round and within 10mins he was off!!The product itself is ok, you can only turn it on for 5mins or 10mins which is a little frustrating. Also you can't turn the sound off and just have the lights moving which is a shame. For £10 it does a great job,if I had to pay more I would expect these features.Overall it's great product and it keeps the boy settled until he drops off

Our 5 month old boy seems to like the actual light, he isn't really interested in the projection on the ceiling yet.The music is quite soothing, perhaps more for us than him yet. He likes the warm yellow glow from the light unit and when he get's his hands on it it stands up to him quite well. Our first light had to go back as the projection stopped working after a couple of minutes and didn't work again, but a replacement light has been perfect.Would be better if it had an option to leave on longer than 10 minutes which can go very quickly when trying to settle a young baby, we turn it back on a few times.Hoping that our son is already associating it with his night time routine but a littleearly to tell yet.

I bought this for my son as I was desperate to try and get him to self settle. Whilst it doesnt work every single time (what does with babies??!!) it has sent him off on occasion. It is a little annoying that you cannot control the volume but compared with the more expensive vtech night light with the bells and whistles I think this does just fine. It shows up nicely on the ceiling though it does need to be quite dark and he does get distracted by the unit itself lol. Its easy to stand either in the cot or on the side and for the price I dont think you can go far wrong. Portable, light and easy to travel with even if it doesnt get them off to sleep it keeps them occupied for a few minutes atleast!

The starlight dreamshow works. My baby went from awake to very sleepy before the five minutes was up. My older child was equally fascinated. I cannot give it five stars because a)there was no option for pictures only, which is what the amazon.co.uk review suggested, and b)there was no volume control.Although my baby was sleepy, the music was keeping him awake when he clearly wanted to sleep, which caused him some agitation. It would have been nicer if the music faded gradually and/or if there was an option for pictures only.Added on 12 September 2011: Our Tomy Starlight Dreamshow is still going strong although we use it only occasionally. Full marks for durability.

Bright and loud so great to attract a grumpy baby's attention at bed time and my son does then fall to sleep looking at it.Tunes are standard although pretty annoying for adult ears. Tunes and lights last 10minutes which is usually enough for my son to fall asleep too. Projector creates a clear image on the ceiling. Not useful to put on in the middle of the night as so bright and loud it startles my son more awake rather than soothing him back to sleep if he is fussy. Pretty cheap compared to other sleep aids but you do get what you pay for, its not all singing and dancing but it works for my son.

We bought this for our 1 month old daughter but she finds it too exciting to fall asleep to! Instead we found a brilliant use for it. She usually starts crying after bathtime when she's being dressed so we turn this on and it stops all her tears as she finds it so engrossing. She is nearly six months old now and she turns her head looking for the lightshow at bathtime. I agree the music is pretty loud, hence 4 stars. We use a simple white noise simulator to send her to sleep. I guess every baby is different. I would take it away with us though as it's now an integral part of our bedtime routine.

My mother-in-law bought my twin daughters one of these when they were born. She was quite apologetic at the time as it didn't seem flash or expensive enough for her prized granddaughters. All I can say is that once the teddies are switched on both girls know that crying is futile and that they may as well relax, enjoy the show and finally drift off to sleep. It's possible it may not work for your little one (there's no guarantees with kids) but it's one of the things that we make sure is packed before we go away - even 2 years later. In fact I'm just ordering one for my heavily pregnant friend.
