ALL-PLAY mode, great invention, makes this game simple and fun both for kids and those not so great at games, just point where you want the ball to go and swing the remote and that's pretty much where the ball ends up.ALL-PLAY gets far too easy after a very short time though (I won the first tournament I played (72 holes) by about 20 strokes), so you have STANDARD and ADVANCED play modes, each of which have fundumental differences, but also have their own levels of difficulty within them so you can always make the game a challenge.Don't expect the actual control mechanics to be like real golf, swinging the remote like it's a real golf club doesn't really work, but even when swinging the remote as directed by the game you still get the feeling you're hitting the ball. The game itself is great, lots of challenges, awards and plenty of tournaments, Mini-Games and Party Modes too. Lots of stuff to buy, pretty sure it mentions there's more than 9,000 items available, although a lot of those are the same thing but in different colours, I'd say there's actually about 6,000 different items. You can earn points to add to your players abilities such as how far he/she can hit the ball. The game mechanics are excellent, the ability to design your own character (similar to how a Mii works, but much more advanced) is excellent, although it will irritate those who wish to dive straight in and play, but the great thing is you can do a half-hearted job of creating yourself to start with and then go back when the mood takes you and make tweaks to make it look more like you.The online play feature is an excellent addition, playing against the Wii controlled characters, I can't help but get the feeling that the better I play the worse they do and the worse I play the better they do. With real people on-line though you know you're going to be getting their best game without any bias. There are only four small criticisms, which is why I've given this 4 instead of 5 stars.1./ Sometimes, when putting, the game just doesn't seem to register the fact that you've swung the club, it's not that often it does it, maybe 1 in 50 but it's still irritating.2./ If you're quite close to the flag (inside 20 metres) but not on the green, when you zoom to your target, the camera makes the percentage sign disappear off the top of the screen so you don't really have an accurate idea of how hard to hit it, that said, this doesn't happen often either, probably even less than the putting thing.3./ There are some features that just aren't explained anywhere, at least not that I've found, for example certain items of clothing and equipment give you bonuses in the different areas of skill (putting, accuracy, luck, power etc...). Also, there are different Levels of clothing, I have no idea what these represent or what they're for, I assume a pair of Level 4 trousers are better than Level 1, but in what way?4./ ADVANCED mode, trying to get Fade or Draw on your club in ADVANCED mode seems practically impossible and you're forced to endure trying in the tutorial right at the beginning of the game (luckily you can quit the tutorial and go ahead and play anyway), but it would seem to me that it would make more sense to have tutorials for each available difficulty mode so you could try them as needed. On the whole, well worth the money.

I purchased my Wii and TW 08 together, and really loved it - although I came to realise the main reason for this love was being able to do ridiculous things like shooting a 40 at St Andrews.... and even sitting on the sofa and getting on the green from a drive on a par 5 with a quick flick of the wrists! With this in mind I bought TW 09 and expected brilliant things - disappointment, alas! beckoned as I couldn't play sofa golf anymore! Like many I found the putting particularly frustrating, and the game was forgotten in favour of 08 - albeit with a strict discipline to swing properly!Being happy with my player development, I'd skipped the last few incarnations, but then disaster - 08 will no longer play after an incident involving the cat in the middle of the game (note to all - don't let your console topple over with any vigour while playing a game!).... so I decided to invest in TW12 - which is on its way. In the meantime, I've had to revert to 09.Now that I have disciplined myself to play properly, this game is much, much better than 08 - greater realism on the swing, and the putting, while taking a while to get used to the mechanics, is actually pretty good. 09 is far less forgiving on little slips opening/closing the wrists in the swing than 08, and in the traditional family golf game on boxing day, I actually noticed an improvement in my real game too.Overall then, TW09 is a great step up from 08 - just don't bank on being in an unassailable lead in a 4 round tourney after only 9 holes on the first round! The realism of the game is pretty good - as long as you have realistic views of your own ability!Waiting for TW12 with baited breath - as it brings back Fleherty. My major remaining gripe at TW09 is the commentary by Sam Torrance is very lifeless, with pathetic attempts at humour. At least the interplay and mickey taking on TW08 ("This shouldn't be too difficult, even for you McCord!") were amusing for a few rounds at least!A belated review maybe, but for anyone looking for a cheap intro to the TW PGA franchise on Wii, this is well worth a look without the outlay for the new games!Bring on The Masters!

I have recently bought both this wii version & the 360 version of 09'.After previously owning 08' on both consoles I think it is fair to say that improvements on the wii version are quite subtle, but overall, do improve the general quality of the game.A LOT of things remain from the 08' version.Eg. Character creation is EXACTLY the same, same kit, clothes, accessories etc. The only difference being the navigational menus have been revamped, which to EA's credit are very nicely done, a vast improvement from 08'.Gameplay wise, the graphics have had a very nice improvement, and although they still come nowhere near to the standards of the 360 version, are surprisingly very good for a wii game. They have also implemented a new play style "all play" which basically tells you exactly where the ball will bounce, land, roll etc, and make getting the correct swing percentage right extremely easy. This is great for beginners and little kids, but isn't very challenging to say the least. (Best just to keep it on normal play.)Another new feature is online play! I have played this a couple of times with my brother and I have to say its not to bad. Obviously there aren't as many features as you get on the 360 version, but its pretty decent.Overall, this is still the best golf game on the wii by a country mile. And, is an improvement on 08' although I would have liked to see some new features, more character customization and more online features, but overall I highly recommend this game, not only to hardcore golf fans, but to anyone. Its great fun. With the wii you get much more sense of achievement at pulling off great shots than you do on 360/ps3 counterparts, albeit until you arm starts hurting after too many attempted 110% drives!Gameplay - 5/5Graphics - 4/5Multiplayer - 4/5General presentation - 4/5Overall - a solid 4/5

I don't normally review games but having thoroughly enjoyed this one so far, I was a little surprised to see all the negative responses from people. Sure, the putting seems a little hit and miss to start with but it's all part of the learning curve of judging where to aim and then do your preview and then fine tune to putt, paying attention to the power required. If you swing back very slowly before putting, you get a much more accurate reading and can swing through for a guaranteed result if you happened to land with your preview right into the cup.I've played other forms of golf with the moving "beams" and it gives a very accurate representation of the extent of the slope as well as the staggered lines,so it's hardly "unplayable" in my opinion, as I'm managing to play it very nicely, thank you!Online is virtually flawless, inspite of the obligatory "quitters" which seem to plague most games, with a lobby for instant match-ups and a name-based friend system. Graphically, it's tolerable and functional, as we have come to expect from this series on this format. There is plenty to do here to complete every challenge and unlock everything and you can trim that down if you wish to only play one round instead of four in your career settings. If you've played golf games like Mario Golf or more recently Pangya on this system, then it should all be pretty much second nature to you here. Sorry if this upsets those who find they can't persist with the putting mechanics but I really can't see it being a major problem until the really hard pin placements are your only choice left to conquer. By the time you're ready for those, you'll have pretty much mastered the system anyway...so don't be put off, stick with it and enjoy!

Now i must say that I have read a number of reviews and these tend to say that the wii controller has no real bearing on the strength of the hit. If the club is 150yds and the pin is 148yds, they say that the ball always sails over the hole by a country mile. Now lets look at the real game. Although I am not an expert Golfer, I can guess the right club with the pin distance, and ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL yes, the ball will soar through the air with laser guided accuracy and land on the edge of the hole. (If only all things were this simple).Generally the ball soars miles ahead because I've totally miss hit it and it doesn't land anywhere near the pin. This game requires a lot of practice!! I feel that, like the real game, the club, or wii controller, in order to get anywhere near the pin should be treated like a real club, the swing should be done with minimum effort and allowing the weight of the club (wii controller and arm) to just swing through with no force. It really is like playing for real, as you can fluff a shot, and realise why you hit it bad. Next time you get it nice and smooth, and look at the difference, the ball goes effortlessly towards the hole.Needless to say, I just love this game. I know that the character creation is a little limited, but as a golf simulation it carries this through very very well.Worth getting if you want a simulation, and for the rest, still worth getting, as the difficulty can be altered. If you just want a game where you use a strength bar and it always goes near the hole, xbox live has one for you. Real Golf....look no further, this is good!!

Got this game the day it came out and I love it.For many years I have played Links golf on the PC, which relies on use of the mouse. But the TW Wii game, although less true to the game of golf, is much more enjoyable because of the physical input required.Using the Wii remote is a bit like a real golf swing, but is not nearly so subtle. A good swing on the Wii could be rubbish in real golf. You can hit draws and fades, pitches, punches, flops and chips. Accuracy is guaranteed, although the wind makes a big difference.A number of courses are included (eg St Andrews, Wentworth, Sawgrass, Sun City) and they're quite good renditions, if a bit simplified. You can play individual games or take part in whole seasons, etc. The difficulty level can be altered considerably to allow for most abilities. As usual with Wii, you create your own appearance and can select different clothing, equipment, etc as you progress. You can get playing tips from Hank Haney, but really it's practice that makes the difference. There are a few software glitches, for example I once missed the cut even though I was leading. Also, if you get a great score, you can be sure that many of the software players will match it in the next round. One issue that really annoys me is that sometimes when you're contending for the lead, you mysteriously miss easy puts etc when the machine doesn't seem to want you to win.It would be nice if additional courses were available, maybe Nintendo could make an add-on CD.Overall, I was delighted to pay £30 for this, I see it's a lot less than that now - a bargain.

PUTTING.Having read extensive customer reviews on several sites; most of the negativity revolves around the poor putting gameplay on short distances.I don't really see what all the fuss is about. Putting isn't very difficult at all at any distance. I constantly putt it within 2 or so metres from the cup without any difficulties. (Often better than my real life putting)!I was expecting it to be like the putting on Wii Sports Golf - which IS rubbish. But no, it's much better and easier.FEATURES.I would have liked to have seen the dynamic attributes included in this game like on the PS3 and 360 and less of the party/arcade game modes. (But the Wii is more of a family and friends console anyway,so it's understandable). That said, there are so many different modes and party games to play with friends and family, game interest longevity is extended.GRAPHICS.The graphics are infinitely better than the PS2 version and only slightly worse than the PS3 and 360 versions (obviously) when played in my 50" Plasma screen. On that scale, pixelation is not an issue.OVERALL.Overall, this is worth the purchase. Graphics, gameplay, longevity and variety all make this game fun and challenging to play alone or with others.I think that perhaps other found putting bad because of their sensor positions etc. So it you do decide to buy this and have a putting issue; try repositioning your self, IR sensor, console or tv and see if that improves it.-sour

I have to give this game 5 stars because it is really really good fun. The ideas are fantastic and there is a great variety of courses to play, fun games, outfits to wear and the characters have great ATTITUDE!However the booklet that comes with it is very limited. When I tried to add another wii remote I found the instructions far from idiot proof. The rest of the information is sketchy. I've turned the commentary off and can't find out how to turn it back on again even though the options menu says it's on. The website, on first sight is not very promising. Some of the courses are indeed very dark and the sky blindingly bright even though I adjusted my tv screen. I even shaded my eyes as I would if I was there,I couldn't find the hole and putted blindly. But the rest are amazing courses, there are some thrilling places and some very tricky places for playing especially if you turn off all the things that make it easy. You can make it as hard or as easy as you want. Online playing is great fun.And yes I agree the putting is very hit and miss, but if I was at my local green it would probably be about the same. Great Game! Buy it!

Just got this game and I am really enjoying it. At first the putting was a disaster, but I soon learnt that you just need to remember the actual distance to pin which disappears when you take your next putt and it just switches to a 10, 20 30 foot etc putter distance - which may or may not be the right putter for the job depending on the gradients in the green. Admittedly the full putting swing is not reflective of real golf and this is the only downside - Wii Spports Golf had a better putting system, but Woods 09 once you get used to it is a superb game. The online battles I will take part in are the highlight of the game so far.Tried out 2 rounds over the weekend and knowing you are playing against another human really edges up the pressure - at least they can't see you celebrate knocking in a putt - the onscreen game celebrations are nothing compared to running around the living room punching the air LOL!So overall - a highly recommended game - spend some time learning the putting and you'll get great value out of the game.

Got this game yesterday. After reading some of the reviews, I was more than a little worried that it might be another Wii trade in candidate. Yesterday, I played for about an hour, really just getting used to everything . Today, I played my first full round....a 74 at Coghill was the result. In this round, I had only 31 putts, which totally blows away the theory that the putting system doesn't work.I did make a mess of a couple of holes, because I simply forgot to do a full swing on three chip shots. I feel confident that, with a bit more practice, sub par rounds will begin to flow. Please please give this game a try. I think the only negative views are coming from people used to shooting in the 50's on other golf sims.Use the info the game gives you and you'll quickly find that this game is great fun and very playable. Definitely my new fave on the Wii.

After reading a number of positive reviews and negative I decided to go ahead and purchase the game. 1st impressions were so so , i found it difficult enough to putt and gauge iron distances etc. After a few days playing however I really got into the game and its got to be the best golfing game for the wii. Graphics are sharp sound and gameplay great, (apart from Sam Torrances annoying voice!:) and the online mode is seriously good fun either playing head to head or in a 4 ball. Overall im very impressed the putting i find fine it just takes a while to get used to and i can see why people finding it frustrating. Someone suggested pushing up a bit, on up hill putts and this works well.Only slight annoyance is connection failures on the EA servers online mode, but after a few go's this normally works ok. Overall a great golf game!

Just got this today, so not played many courses or the online part yet, but........ The game and control is excellent. I am an oldie, microprose golf on the amiga was the last golf game I played until the Wii sports game along. But TW09 is top drawer. The Wii controller makes all the difference. I have tried the mid and top difficulty settings and the difficult is indeed difficult but because you are controlling it like a true club then you feel with practice you will get there. It is not about clicking in time with a moving line or something equally unrelated to golf. The graphics are great even though the Wii is not HD and I am playing on a HD1024 tv. The commentary is good although I imagine you will turn it off at some point. As a family (networked thanks to the Wii) we are looking forwards to a virtual golfing tour.

Tiger Woods 09 is basically a decent all round game. It feels as though you are playing golf. The graphics (for the Wii) are pretty good. You can create your own golfer, jump straight into the game and play as you try to improve your own created player. Where the game does fall down is in the putting. Yes it can be very frustrating, too many people have commented on it for it not to be the case. The constant changing of putter lengths, the continous lipping out or even worse going straight over the hole turning a round of 63 into a 68 can become very annoying, but unfortunately that is just the way it is and yes you can get used to it. All in all a good game that could have, should have been better.

HAVE PLAYED ALL TIGER WOODS ON ALL CONSOLES AND TIGER WOODS 09 ON THE WII IS ENJOYABLE,I AM USED 2 THE PS3 CONTROLLER SO USING THE WII AT FIRST IS A BIT TRICKY BUT AFTER A WHILE U GET USED 2 IT.THE GAME ITSELF HAS MOST OF THE STUFF THE OTHER CONSOLES HAVE TOUR SEASON,MINI GAMES,U CAN CREATE YOUR OWN PLAYER AND PIMP HIM OUT WITH YOUR OWN LOOK.THE REASON I BOUGHT THIS GAME WAS IT ONLY COST ME 7 QUID AND I DIDNT REALLY HAVE A GOLF GAME 4 THE WII.OVERALL THE GAME IS DECENT ENOUGH,I SOMETIMES GET FRUSTRATED WITH THE SWING BUT I GUESS THEN ITS LIKE THE REAL THING AND 4 THAT REASON U FEEL MORE SATISFIED WHEN U COMPLETE A ROUND.DECENT GOLF GAME ON THE WII AND 4 THE PRICE U CANT GRUMBLE.

I must agree with the positive reviews about this game. I've been playing now for a couple of days and I dont see any problems. Driving and approach play I know exactly how hard I want to hit the ball and sometimes get it right, sometimes not......just like when I play real golf! I've sunk long putts and missed short ones, just like real golf. I know what I'm trying to do, when I get it right it works, if I get it wrong, it doesn't. Understand the mechanics of the putting system and it works. Seems to me that some people want to go round in massive under par scores, sinking putts all over the place, sorry, that's not how real golf is !!
