'The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn' takes its inspiration from both the recent blockbuster animated film and Herge's original Tintin books. It takes a number of forms, including platformer, third person adventure and driving / flight simulation to encompass a variety of scenarios seen in the film. For the most part, these work very well, and although seasoned gamers may find elements of the game a little simplistic, it's very enjoyable, and particularly suitable for younger players. The strongest levels are the platform ones, where Tintin (or his faithful friends Snowy or Haddock) must negotiate his way through a series of locations, thwarting crooks and solving puzzles. The methods for dealing with the villains are particularly creative - whilst some can be laid low by an old-fashioned right hook (with the customary cartoon stars whizzing round their heads to indicate their dazed state), others can only be dealt with by clever use of items and the locations our hero is in, requiring a certain amount of creative thinking. However, the other kinds of level are good fun, too - you can fly the yellow sea plane or drive the motorcycle and sidecar as seen in the film, or engage in sword duels with pirates as Sir Francis Haddock. I don't have the Playstation Move controller, but for those who do, I imagine this is the part of the game where it comes into its own. There are co-operative and challenge modes to keep players occupied when they've completed the main narrative, which should extend the life of the game. What may also be interesting for fans of the books is that the game's main story, whilst very similar to the narrative of the film, owes a lot more to the original Herge books on which it is based. Why this should be, I don't know, unless perhaps it is based upon an earlier draft of the screenplay. It does at least mean that you're not left slavishly re-treading the plot of the film, which is welcome. Ultimately, whilst not perfect, this is certainly an above average film tie-in game, and one that is likely to provide hours of fun for all the family.

My son had great fun playing this.He played it over the half term, so I guess it was about 3 days of playing solid at it, with obligatory breaks of course, and he had completed it.The puzzles are not taxing for a soon to be 9 year old, so he could get on with the fun of actually playing.I liked the look of the game, and it stays pretty much bang on to the films' story line apart from the battling bad guys at a fairly constantly repetitive level.Good clean fun, and value for money for an Xbox game aimed at this age group. (Non-Kinect)If you have the option to use 3D during game-play then the game is really rich and has good depth of field in 3D.The extra mini challenges when the whole story is completed are fun too.All in all,8/10 for this one from my sons reactions and how involved he got with it. Only having the puzzles being more in depth would have scored a 9/10 which is as good as it'll ever get barring a miracle for games in this kids sector of the market. But, that would have likely strayed from the movie too much.I highly recommend it for beginners and experts alike, for the sheer fun of it and some good laughs if you pick up some little tricks along the way to deal with some of the bad guys in a rather more comical way than you would have first thought...............Go buy it, you can't go wrong at these low prices now.Reviewed on behalf of Kye, my son, based on his experience of the game and my observing him playing it.

At heart, this is a traditional platforms and ladders game, spiced up with some arcade action and some Tomb Raider-ish puzzles (dragging blocks, calculating trajectories of thrown objects and using see-saws etc.)It's obviously aimed at the younger player, as there's no gore and no-one ever gets killed - people thrown over a cliff are seen rubbing their heads whilst stars swirl around them all accompanied by tweet-tweet sounds. Also, the difficulty level rarely rises above the easy to moderate. With the exception of a couple of the sword-fighting scenarios, which I had to repeat a couple of times before I could progress, I sailed through this fairly linear adventure after 7 hours,41 minutes of elapsed gameplay.Doesn't sound that exciting does it? But, I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it! The graphics are extremely attractive and capture the look and feel of the movie very well and some of Tintin's special stealth moves are laugh-out-loud funny - just loved his stiff-legged gait when he dons the suit of armour! Amongst the arcade sequences, the motorbike was probably the best, but the airplane, running and swimming scenarios were also a lot of fun. This is pure, escapist fun which, if you are a Tintin fan, is well worth buying. A shame though that it was all over so quickly.

this really is a wonderful wii platform game featuring the mighty tintin and friends.as an avid tintin fan i was very excited to hear of this game's release and it does not disappoint... you get to play as tintin, snowy, captain archibald haddock, sir francis haddock, bianca castafiore and not forgetting the blithering thomson and thompson.the graphics and sound are fantastic, the gameplay is fun, easy at points but also challenging enough to not become dull. the game features single player story mode, co-op game and lots of mini games and challenges (which when completed unlock lots of hidden stuff).i have no idea why it has been rated as pegi 12,there is no foul language or inappropriate content with hardly any violence in the game and the violence that does occur is very much in a cartoon vein and in no way unsuitable for children.in conclusion, no tintin fan should be without this game (especially at the low price its available for) and for people who are new to the adventures of tintin due the recent film release, i feel that you and your family will really enjoy the variety and fun challenges that this game has to offer.vive tintin!

I bought this for my son who is 8 without looking at the age rating since the film was PG. I was surprised when it came to see it was a 12 but thought we would see how it was with a view to putting it away again if it was unsuitable (I tend to follow the age guidelines usually). In fact there seems to be NO reason for it's 12 rating. It claims violence but really the worst that happens is that characters can punch and kick each other and this results in the victim being knocked out at worst, with his head surrounded in stars. No bruises, no blood, no death. It is really very tame....Tom and Jerry can be more violent.Other than that, the game is excellent and lots of fun with excellent graphics. He has got stuck a few times but got through with perseverance but not so much as to totally frustrate him.A really excellent game for kids.

When my 11-year old son was in the store and he saw this game, he wouldn't stop badgering me about it. He wanted it so desparatly. And I'm glad it was worth it. The game itself is about a reporter called Tintin, who buys a ship called the unicorn. But there is more to it then meets the eye. Sir Francis Haddock had built three after sinking the proper ones, to give down to his three sons. Each contains a scroll that can lead to a secret never before discovered...he also meets Captain Archibald Haddock, and they go on an adventure of a lifetime together. The game has OK graphics, but I don't really care about that, nor does my son. It's just good fun for the whole family. It also has kinect challenges (don't worry-you don't NEED it) that are fun. He plays on it all the time. Five stars and recommended.

This game has been keeping an eight year old and a four year old almost obsessively busy for weeks now. They've had to employ a good bit of teamwork to get through it, something they are not always renowned for. The game looks great and was challenging but not impossible, even for the four year old.We did however discover a serious downside to the game today when the dynamic duo finally got to the end of it. Having invested hours of their time and a great deal of their energy in it, they were utterly devastated when all they got by way of recognition was a scrolling list of credits before being very much shown the door. The four year old was especially upset. So, whoever was responsible for that design flaw, may Bianca Castafiore buy herself a karaoke machine and move in right next door to you.

It is aimed at children but for it's price & the fact that I loved the old Tintin Cartoons and books well why not? It's mainly side scrolling with easy puzzles (again aimed at children) There are sections that aren't side scrolling within, Nice graphics and touches, You can fly a plane on numerous occasions, Ride on motorbikes & aim and shoot when you're in the sidecar, You can take control over Snowy, Captain Haddock, Cpt Haddocks Grandfather too as the story unfolds, There're are collectables on each level that you can play again and search for if you want them all? There's a challenges section, It's ideal for 9-10-11-Etc year old's as a gift, A great gift! And a fun little play too for adults too,An easy 4* for it's all around appeal, t's pretty good fun actually.

Bought this partly due to a favourable review.A bit cheesy to play but quite enjoyable.Younger players will enjoy it.My partner and I have also been playing the two player co-op which is great fun.Best thing is it is so stress free because it`s easy to play. After a session on gears of war this is very relaxing.Graphics are very good and it`s a bit like the old platform games of yesteryear.Various items and costumes to earn whilst playing which isn`t too taxing on the brain. Also a good source for easy achievement points. As it`s easy to play it`s probably not a game you could play through a second time. There is only one difficulty setting which I would say is easy. All in all a welcome break fromall the serious games.Enjoy it while it lasts.

I have played this game before letting my my 9 yr old son have a go and do not really understand why it is a 12. There is no bad language, no sex content and the violence is very cartoon like with the the baddies " seeing stars" when they are beaten or ending up swimming around in water. The puzzles sometimes take some thought to work out but not so difficult that you need to resort to cheats or walk throughs. It is not that long to work through the game of the film about 9 hours but then there is more content. I am resisting allowing DS to have games which are graphic or violent in nature despite all the pestering for COD or MW3.This is a good compromise for us as he likes the sword fights and jumping the baddies and the puzzles.

This has it all--fighting, platform, flying an airplane, driving a motorbike, puzzles, etc. My 9yo daughter played it straight with no help in 8 hours and 6 minutes to completion which she has never played any game more than 30 minutes before but she couldn't put this one down. Saying that, she is very bright and this game is in no way too easy. You'll get more than your moneys worth. The characters will switch in between TinTin, Haddock, and Snowy and it's fair since if you fail it doesn't start you over way back but instead just moments before your failure which means you won't get mad and want to quit if you mess up a bit.I've not found many games more enjoyable or playable and would recommend to anyone over the age of 8.

I thought this game was great fun. There is a lot to do in the game. 2D platforming, 3D platforming, fighting, swimming, scuba diving, riding a motorcycle, riding a plane, climbing across buildings with a grappling hook, shooting, using snowy, challenges, Haddock's dreams, and Kinect compatible. Lots to do!Just good old platforming fun.I completed the single player campaign in a day, but I'm an adult and kids could play this over and over again. Plus I still have all the challenges and Haddock's dreams to complete. The only problem I had is that it got REALLY repetetive. But all in all good fun. Can't complain.

My five-year-old son got this for Christmas and he absolutely loves it. He particularly likes sneaking up behind the baddies, picking them up and then slamming them on the floor! He howls with laughter at that. It's a good old fashioned platform game and while the scenes change the premise is the same, which is great for someone of his age. I would imagine older children would get bored pretty quickly though. Although the classification is 12 there is no way it should be. I presume it's based on difficulty level rather than anything graphic. Good fun.Highly recommended for children of a certain age.

I nearly didn't buy this after reading some reviews on gaming websites, but I'm really glad I did. You need to take account of the age rating! My son who is 9 is playing this and loves it.The violence and language is appropriate for his age and the difficulty level is just right. It's basically a 2D platform game with mysteries to solve along the way and with some good cut scenes and 3D link up play such as aeroplane flying and motorcycle/sidecar driving. He's only played the Tintin game so far so I can't comment on the extra game modes but I would definitely recommend this.

My 6 and 7 year old sons have played this game together (one using the space bar, the other commanding the arrows) and they love it. Now they are replaying it in turns. They have great fun throwing bottles at thieves and watching them seeing stars in a fun comics style. I run this game on a Q6600 intel cpu with a nvidia gt520 graphics card with all details and 1080p. I really don't understand the criticism posted by some players here if a 6 year old can play through this game in about 6 hours. If you like Tintin, you'll love this game!
