Once again Nintendo ventures boldly out into the world of Olympics, this time their take is on the 2008 Winter games held in Vancouver.A slickly made game play and enhanced graphics make this a joy to behold, for young or old,it's streets ahead of the earlier offering with a finely honed simplistic play, but still a total blast! The controls have been tightened up,tweaked and refined nicely. to almost near perfection, utilizing the full motion detection playability of the Wii's systemGone the somewhat occasional frustrating mechanics and replaced by a smoother more fluid feeling, add this to the experience and it makes this one of the best Olympic based games on any platform.Far less punishing and very much more forgiving than the previous instalment,it is indeed a joy to play through; a thankfully more sympathetic approach to the trail and error mechanic of its older sibling.Sound design is dynamic and done exceptionally well and character models all look particularly sharp and clean for the most part , given limits the systems graphical processor can handle.A few textures look a little rough and jagged but this is acceptable enough for the Wii.The colour palate is vibrant and bright giving that rich high contrasted arcade appeal, it's pleasing to see, enthralling eye candy; weather for nostalgic casual gamers or modern more harder core platform players..If you have a Wii and some friends around, you really owe it to yourself to give this one a definite spin on the system. In my opinion, from experience, a must to get is a composite cable and junk the standard boxed component one........not true High Definition, but for the Wii's capabilities its rendered at an enhanced 720 dpi and will give you the best visual and audio presentation from what this game has to offer.Verdict.Nintendo really nails the Olympic experience in its own glorious lush way;with colourful characters and great physics and a well produced audio design to boot.If you want a family game that's hugely enjoyable for just about anyone. this is a sure fire resounding hit.And always remember it's full of all of SEGA's best loved icons like Mario,Shadow and my favourite, Sonic ,that just seals the deal !Overall,a fantastic looking and super enjoyable game that's just bags of fun....oodles and oodles of it in fact...... in a way only Nintendo can do...... and do well!.......its a real gem!Nintendo certainly won GOLD on this one,Happy days..................Read full review...

Mario And Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games is a massive improvement over the original game, and anyone who's played the first game and enjoyed that will surely get a kick out of this one. There's plenty of new content this time around with 4 new characters joining the original cast from the previous game, a new Festival mode which takes you through the 14 days of the 2010 Vancover Olympic Games, Plenty of new sports including 12 new Dream Events which are amazing, A Party Games mode and a new Shop feature where you can buy music, clothes for your Mii and accessories for your equipment. The gameplay is also a big improvement from the first game. The Wii controls work great and are very responcive, and there is much less waggle this time around. You can play any of the games with any control style you want, Wii Remote, Wii Remote and Nunchuck, or the Wii Balance Board. There's something for everyone.Graphics look great for a Wii game, and characters are animated really well. CGI cutscenes are pleasing to the eyes.Sound is fantastic. The soundtrack consists of Olympic themed music and plenty of Mario and Sonic music to bring back that feeling of Nostalgia. As for this game's fan service, it's the best I've seen in years. It totally blew my mind and left a big smile on my face. Fans of the Mario and Sonic franchises won't be disappointed. If your looking for a great multiplayer party game, then this is for you. Those who enjoyed the original will love this. 10/10

The sense of anticipation had been building in our house for about 3 months ahead of the release of this game and it's fair to say that expectations were really hight. The original Olympic Games title has given us 2 years of great family fun and it's testament to its quality that it remains well-used today. However, the 'winter' version of this game offers new games and challenges - it's fair to say that it isn't simply a variation on a theme but in fact takes the franchise forward significantly in terms of graphics, gameplay and extras. My kids (aged 7 & 5) have played the game fairly extensively over the weekend and the conclusion was a resounding thumbs up, so I decided to give it a go myself last night, when they were fast asleep in bed and I could give it a test on my own. I have to say, it's fantastic fun and carries appeal for people of all ages - I did a number of events (e.g. ski jumping / bobsleigh / skeleton bob / skiing / ice hockey) and every one is challenging yet fun. The graphics are good and the Wii remote/nunchuck controls have been developed fantastically well to assist gameplay but also give a really natural feel. Once again, Sega and Nintendo seem to have developed a winning game and I fully expect it to be a massive seller in the run-up to Christmas. The kids also have the DS version and that is also proving popular - however, the big screen visuals and the interactivity of the Wii provide the perfect showcase for this fantastic title.

Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games is one of the best multiplayer games out on the Wii in which the whole family will enjoy playing together. There are four new characters for you to have fun with which are Donkey Kong, Bowser Jr, Metal Sonic and the super cool Silver The Hedgehog. When using the Wii Board for the Bobsleigh event you seat on the board and, follow the path down by shifting your wieght from left to right which is great fun. Skiing and Snowboarding are fantastic on the Wii Board too but you can only use the Wii Board in one player mode. The Dream events are ace with Dream Apline which is based on the Mario Circuit from Mario Kart Wii. At last I can take Sonic out with a Red Shell with Mario. For all you people that played the Radical Highway in Sonic Adventure 2 on the Gamecube well you are in for a treat because thats what the Dream Snowboard Cross event is and what a rush you will have! Ice Hockey is a bit tricky to begin with but it's great fun once you get the hang of it, especially whilst playing against your mates or family. There are 27 different events in total for you to enjoy. Also you get stars which you can spend in a shop on outfits for your Mii's or buy music from the Mario and Sonic games. Overall this is a must have game for your Wii which I'm sure you will enjoy alot like I do too.

Billed as a sequel to Mario And Sonic Olympics, it isn't really, because the only similarities are the characters involved.Firstly the gameplay is far more sedate. My main issue with the Summer Olympics was the shoulder breaking drumming required to build up speed, like a throwback to Daley Thompson's Decathlon on the Spectrum. Thankfully as most winter sports involve gravity, the gameplay is more about balance and steering than speeding up.Games include skiing (e.g. Downhill, Giant Slalom), Bobsleigh and Skeleton bob (basically the same as each other), as well as Ice Hockey and Curling. So whilst the premise of many is the same (lean side to side or twist the remotes side to side if you don't have a board),their are plenty of differences and paces of game. There are also Dream Games, which take the traditional sport and give it the Super Mario twist. Again, many are the same and end up a bit like Mario Kart, but there is a Snowball fight which is great fun.Importantly all the time based games can be played in a "Versus" mode, so you race at the same time, even if you wouldn't in real life. So you can have up to 4 skiers, skaters or sledders at the same time. You can use your Mii profile to go up against the animated characters, so overall this is an excellent game to get for the winter.

I bought this hoping that it would be something we could all play together and enjoy (parents plus two kids aged 8 and 6) and it's been a great success. The multiplayer games work really well even with the screen split four ways and it's great for us all to be able to play at the same time on those events. My 6 year old daughter isn't particularly confident on the Wii but there are still several events that she can enjoy - the figure skating and skeleton bobsleigh are popular with her as there isn't too much that can go wrong (she gets upset in games where the characters fall over too much!).There are plenty of tricky and challenging events that should keep the interest of the rest of us for ages.I'm impressed with the variety of games available. We are still unlocking the dream events but the ones we've played so far have been really good fun.We were playing it with my sister and her two older teenagers yesterday too and they loved it as well.I would definitely recommend this as a great game for families.

Fans of the regular Olympic version will likely be drawn to this version and rightly so. Its plus points are obvious, its an offering that plays to the Wii strengths providing active and often crazy bursts of activity and opportunities to play multiplayer events. The graphics are good for the Wii, which is generally the case for the games, like this one, that accept they have to be cartoony rather than realistic - and its all the better for it.Most of the events are slightly less manic that the regular Olympic version and require a little more skill and measured action, however, this doesnt detract at all. The multiplayer events are a mix of 'one at a time'and split screen action. The drawbacks are mainly the interruptions for mini video action or intro screens that breaks the play up far too much, press A, press A, press A. The party modes are also not really fast paced enough.Overall its an excellent game, good to play multiplayer and draws out many of the Wii strengths.

This is an improvement on Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, the games are easier to control, there are also some new characters such as Donkey Kong. Games include skiing bobsleigh, ice hockey, skating and curling. There are also Dream Games, where the traditional sport has Mario Kart elements included, the snowball fight is a blast. New for the Winter Olympic Games is the Festival mode, you play through the whole of the Olympic Winter Games, including all the disciplines competing for medals and there's also an opening and closing ceremony. Some of the events allow for you to use the Balance Board. This is good fun for all the family and a great addition to the wii.

I bought this when it was first released in 2010! We loved it so much and it got scratched over the years so badly it was no longer able to be read in my machine and now with isolation everyone seems to be in bidding wars to buy it. I only need the disc and so I had the bright idea to just buy one. No bidding just buy now and I have it. Already played it and it is as good as I remember! Free postage and it was delivered on the day it was said. Very happy, great price and I would recommend for anyone looking g for family games. The wii is easily my favourite console and my children don’t until I play and they want to win! Great game. Really.

This only arrived yesterday, so its not going to be an in-depth review. But first impressions are excellent. There's a good range of self-contained games, requiring different approaches. A balance board can be used for some of the events, particularly good for the bobsleigh events. We've found the skiing events a bit tricky with the balance board. Some of the game explanations make it seem really complicated, particularly the curling. In reality, its not. Some of the controls do take a little practice to understand exactly what movement is expected. But the best bit? Watch t'other half twisting all over but keeping the controller still. :)

The first Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games was and still is a fantastic game, I was doubtful that those clever people at Sega and Nintendo could do better.I was so wrong, Mario and sonic at the winter Olympics is loads better, with new characters, the one that pleased my little boy most was the introduction of Donkey Kong who he loves. The events are brilliant, there are even some that use the Wii fit balance board.I enjoyed the new Festival mode which kept me busy for a long while.I can see this game filling lots of Christmas stockings and lots of very happy faces.A truly brilliant game that amazes me just how good It is.

12.3.2012

Just like the first game this is brilliant. There are a whole load of different events to take part in and what I thought was excellent about this game in particular was the 'Training' option. My daughter struggled to get to grips with some of the games on the original olympic games and I was concerned these games might be a little more difficult but the training mode helps u through every single step of the event, everytime a new control is needed or a new move during a particular event it takes u through this step. My daughter is able to play all of the games and we have had hours of fun with it. Simply Fantastic

Ok so the first mario and sonic was a great game with great events etc.As much as i loved that game i find it rather empty now i have the winter version!First of all the controls are so much easier to use and there is barely any fiddling around or frustration!! Also the variety of controls is good and the incorporation of the wii balance board makes this game even better!! especially for events such as snowboarding and bobsleigh !!The rankings work in similar fashion to the first game.Overall a brilliant and fun multiplayer game that is also incredibly fun whilst by yourself!!id give it 90% :)

Mario and Sonic has finally solved one of the great problems in our house - a game that keeps everyone happy. My kids who are 8 and 10 absolutely adore it. They really like the games with the Fit board. I don't really play many games at all but this is just good fun, all the characters are cute and I don't have to worry about anything unsuitable for my kids. Even my husband who normally disappears off upstairs to play his shooter games on Xbox is more than happy to join in.I highly recommend this game and am looking forward to getting my parents on it over Christmas

20.1.2010

Bought this for our son for Christmas - cunning plan as I knew we could try it out before buying our own copy! We had such fun with it, and laughed so much, that I am going to buy a copy for ourselves. How come skiing downhill is so difficult? - you can tell we're non-skiers - and as for ski-jumping - but that was probably just me. I did watch it on the telly to try and get some tips but still managed to crash most times! Never mind practice makes perfect they say - Eddie the Eagle watch out! Overall a great fun game.
