3 months after its Wii version hit the shelves, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games has reached the 3DS. As with past games in the series, the handheld versions are usually the best with extra events and a story mode as featured in the Winter Olympics. This 3DS version is packed with many events to play and once again a story mode, but some questionable design choices do hold this one back from being the best. The story is about everybody getting ready for the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics for the next day. However Dr Eggman and Bowser are hiding out in Big Ben and are quite upset that they weren't invited for the games. So Eggman has constructed a machine that by using a strange artifact will cause a massive fog to spread all around London, which will cause the Olympic Games to be cancelled. Mario, Sonic and their friends arrive in London and notice the fog spreading around the city and start to see fog copies of themselves. It's up to Mario, Sonic and crew to figure out the source of the fog and stop Eggman and Bowser. The plot itself is completely ridiculous just like the last game's story but it has its charm and corniness to it as well as some fun character interactions. The game has 55 different Olympic events to play along with a multiplayer and story mode so there will be plenty to do. Each event has different styles of controls. You'll be using the traditional buttons as well as the microphone and gyro controls. Each event varies in controls. Some control great, others not as well. Events such as Aquatics 100m Freestyle, Taekwondo, Balance Beam, Trampoline, BMX, Canoe Slalom (Pair) and Archery are very fun with some pretty good controls. Other events vary from, fun but they end much to quickly or controls that end up being a bit frustrating or very limited. One irritating design choice is that you can only pick 4 characters for certain events. The other games never did this so why this one would do it I still don't understand. It really takes away the freedom of choice and being able to see characters doing sports that would take away all of their dignity for comedic value. The best part of the Mario and Sonic Olympic series was the Dream Events. These events took place in Mario and Sonic worlds and put an interesting spin on Olympic Events. Sadly this handheld edition of London Olympics has removed these events which is a big letdown. The overall gameplay is still good fun but some of the design choices are disappointing. The graphics are really well done. They are worthy of standing up to the Wii version along with some very impressive 3D. Character models look nice and the environments match the feel of London but with a cartoony look. The audience still look 2D as in previous games which only a very minor nitpick. The audio is still as good as the previous games. The music sounds great especially during the story mode's cutscenes which really surprised me. Sound effects are pretty decent as well.Overall this is pretty fun handheld version of the London Olympics, but some of the design choices do hold this one back from being the best. If you're a fan of the series I'd wait till it gets a little cheaper, or if you can look past the issues then go for it. This entry is close to being the best handheld version of the series, but it takes a few steps backwards. 7/10

One of the greatest games Nintendo has made! There are many mini games to play which makes the game more brilliant. You can also do Story mode where you complete a series of challenges and beat Bowser in the Olympics. One thing that would be good if they could do Wireless Connections so you could go against people around the world. If your unsure whether to get the game or not, get it and give it a go! I'm sure you'll find the "wow" in it like I did.Think of it as the 2012 Olympic Games had come back to life!

I really enjoy this game and love trying out all of the different events. I love how you can choose your own team and get to play as your favourite mario and sonic characters. The only problem with the game, for me is the story mode. I found that the dialogue between characters seemed to drag on a little when you really want to get on with the challenge and I am really glad that you are able to skip over this by pressing the start button.

My son loves his game, can play for hours. Not too difficult for a beginner to 3DS, but challenging enough that game is played often. My son is eight and he got this for his birthday which was just before the olympics. The game was a huge hit with my son, mostly down the Olympic hype, but 6 months later, he's still playing it and he says none of the games are anything like the ones he saw on telly!

Our daughter chose this game to use on our longish car journey on holiday. She was already engrossed before we left the driveway and has enjoyed the different sports. The only criticism I would say is that sometimes you have to tip, flick and other various moves the 3ds, and sometimes the game didn't always register it. Other than that, an entertaining game.

Bought for my 9 yr old son, who loved it, played it a lot when first got it, has gone down the list a little now, but still gets played with every now and again. He had the Wii version first loved that and wanted it for DS too. Gave 4 stars has it hasn't remained a favourite, but that could just be his personal taste.

I treated myself to this a few months ago. It has had a lot of use and is a lot of fun. It is suitable for all ages. It can be a bit repetitive in parts but then a lot of games are. Some games take more skill than others but on the whole I think it is great value and will give hours of fun. Highly recommend

This is a very good game. In my opinion the handheld versions of games are better than their console counterparts as you can take them where you want. I didn't expect this game to be so good and packed with so many different sports though! Definite buy

There is a great variety of mini-games in this title; however, some of them are shallow or overly simplistic. There is also a small story mode but the game shines most in its ability to make one try to constantly better one's results.

My son has recently brought himself a 3D DS so i got him this so he can build up a collection of 3D games, It was excellent value..i thought it would have been more expensive as the olympic games were held in London

Our son loves playing this game. He's not good at athletics so this is a good game were he believes he now has a chance to win a race what is normally impossible to do. Good confidence booster even if make believe.

This is a brilliant game, I would recommend it to anyone. It has lots of things to do within it. Mini games, so you really do feel like you are having fun at the olympics
