Another yearly update from EA Sports, and it is a simple case of how much you love the series as to whether you will want to buy this. It is very similar to last year's version. To be fair(way - ho ho), EA have added a number of new features, the most notable being Tiger Proofing (which enables you to make courses harder by narrowing fairways, making greens smaller, bunkers bigger, etc.) and Tiger Vision (which shows you exactly where to aim on a particularly tricky putt). There are also a few new courses, although these are not additions but replacements for courses used in last year's game, a new 'Legends Tour', in which you play against golfing legends for money and upgrades, and a biggie - Online Play.Yes, you can now play off against golfers around the globe over the internet. I have not tried the latter yet, so cannot comment on it.Add to all of this an improved Pro Shop/Game Face section (imaginatively titled 'Game Face II') - this works pretty well and you can get a good likeness of yourself or create some very bizarre looking people - and the ability to create your own swing plus some other minor cosmetic improvements, and Tiger 05 is well stacked in the features department. It is also the most accessible golf game I have ever played. If you have never played computer golf, Tiger will break you in very gently. If you are a veteran, however, it is staggeringly easy - especially on some of the wide and accommodating PGA Tour courses. The difficulty level is so poorly pitched that it loses the game a star. You can up the trickiness by playing tournaments at TOUR (yes, EA insist on spelling it in capitals) Difficulty. This makes shot execution much less forgiving. Fail to swing perfectly and the ball can slice dangerously off target. You cannot use power boost or spin when playing from the rough or sand, and last but by no means least, there are no Caddy Tips when putting. This makes putting something of a guessing game, at least at first, as you attempt to line your shot up properly and predict how up or downhill the putt will be. This is all very hard to do with the limited camera angles and other tools you have, so two-putting becomes common. It can all be rather infuriating but overall It does lead to more realistic scores and makes tournaments much more of a challenge. You can't have the thing won after the first round! TOUR Difficulty can be switched on/off per tournament round as you see fit.As before, winning tournaments, matches against the legends and completing scenarios earns you money which can be spent on your player's attributes or items ranging from golf clubs to hair dye and new jumpers. Hours can be spent customising your player and it is alarmingly good fun!The fantastic analogue stick control system remains and the graphics still do an adequate job - but it is about time EA Sports inserted a crowd around the course, as their disembodied cheers and applause as you play become quite unsettling. There is also a heck of a lot to do, it would take months to complete everything, and it makes playing through endless tournaments something of a chore as there is just so much. But if you like your golf, no problem, I guess. If, like me, you love these games, Tiger 05 is just about worth a purchase. Just be warned it is very, very easy and time spent with TOUR Difficulty (love those capitals) and Tiger Proofing in order to up the challenge is time well spent. If, on the other hand, you are a golf rookie, this game is simply the best introduction you can get.

What can you say about the irrepressable Tiger? When EA introduced their now legendary analogue control system in 2003, they revolutionised the whole golf, if not sports genre for good. Tiger 2004 was a phenominal game. The control system was perfected, the single player mode was massive and would take weeks for even the most accomplished golfer to work their way through and above all else, it was highly polished, so as I'm sure you can imagine I had high expectations from Tiger's latest incarnation. The first thing I went looking for were the changes and new additions that 2005 offers. The biggest and most drastic from my point of view is the decision to go metric.I'm still not sure if this was a good idea however I've had to totally rethink the putting aspect of the game which is difficult if like me you're used to feet and inches. Also whilst putting, you're faced with another new innovation - Tiger Vision. You get to use it three times in every round and it does help immensely. Where, on 2004, you have a putt that you're unsure of, you would send out an exploratory effort and hope for the best, but on 2005 if you hold down the R1 button Tiger Vision kicks in. It basically puts a point on the green and you have ten seconds to line your putt up with it. It appears accurate, although it's not nailed on that you will sink the putt. Game Face 2 is very similar to the original, but it has probably twice the amout of features and disfigurements. Other than that, there aren't many changes, but then you can't improve on perfection. The control system is as intuitive as ever and everything feels natural. The graphics have been tweaked as much as the PS2 processor will allow (leaves falling from nearby trees are a nice touch) and the apres shot animations have also had a nice re-vamp.I could talk about this game for hours, so in a nutshell, if you so much as even have a passing interest in the game, buy Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005. If you have even a passing interest in video games, buy Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005. If you own 2004 and are in two minds as to whether it's worth upgrading, Trade in 2004 and get the newer more polished version.Bring on 2006!!!

The 2005 edition of tiger woods EA sports cash-in has been improved in several key areas which let down the previous game. The first of these improvements comes in the form of 'Tiger proofing'. This is essentially a way of modifying the golf courses on the game to make them more difficult to play, for example, increasing the undulation and speed of the fairway, or the length of the rough. The second improvement is the 'tour difficulty' mode, which increases the precision with which you have to swing the club in order to hit an accurate tee shot, decreases your spin ability (you cannot spin the ball if your lie is in the rough or sand), and doesn't give you the 'caddie's read'of the green when putting. There is also a legends tour scenario, whereby you have to qualify to play old stars of the game such as Seve Ballesteros and Jack Nicklaus, by beating several lesser players in matchplay games. The game has all the usual sponsorship incentives and a massive range of equipment in the pro shop, which is all housed in the 'Gameface 2' section, where you can modify the attributes, visual characteristics, clothing, equipment, accessories and club selection. The attributes (such as 'ball striking' and 'putting') cost a large proportion of tournament earnings to enhance, so it takes a lot of time playing the game to create a really sound golfer, which is another realistic feature of the game. The only critical point I have is that the putting technique is fairly easy to master, and once you have ascertained the correct width and distance - as read prescribed by the caddy - it's a pretty simple process. But of course you can play a round in 'tour difficulty' mode and really test yourself.

I haven't had a chance to play that much of the game yet, mainly because I've become so fascinated and amused with the ability to create a player. You can create a player with so many points of facial and body structure(as well as creating their style of swing etc), to look like anyone you want it to be....clothe them in anything you want too! It's so funny and amusing, and that's before you get to see your created player on the course...even more amusing! The gameplay is the best I've seen on a golf game, with the swing of the club controlled by the analogue stick, giving some kind of real momentum to the game. There are so many functions and types of games to play, and even the chance to build and create your own course and how each hole plays. As you progress you get to unlock more features and other types of golf to play. This game has everything, it's enjoyable to play, will give you a laugh, from creating your player to some great commentary. The only down point is that all the quantity of functions seem a little TOO much if that's possible, and almost distracting....but that's a very small criticism, and a nice criticism to have! All in all it's a truly classic golf game with great graphics!

This is my first golf game ever. I must say i was very impressed the attention to detail, and the amount of options are staggering. I like how you are encouraged to create yourself as a golfer or just some freeko if you like. It brings a personal touch like in the Tony Hawks games that makes it a more engaging title. Rather useful is the play now function which takes you in turn through the challenges, and matches there are also matches that take place at certain times of the year based on the PS2 internal clock which is a nice touch. The graphics, and animation are good and smooth though the voiceover can be annoying. Before playing this game I actually knew nothing about golf, and found that there was a steep learning curve but the controls, and aids such as the caddy tip help immensely. I bought this on the recommendation of a friend as it being simply a good game which it is. Playing this has foundered an interest in real golf in me.

This game came out after the release of 2004, and what a good improvment, here is my review:Gameplay=Swing very easy to get the hang of. Club changes are effective, and the depth of the sand and rough. One fault is that it is a little basic. Aftr a while it gets very easy.7/10Graphics=You could mistake the golfers for the real thing. Jim Furyk and John Dalys' recognizable swing has been done to perfection.8/10Options=Very good. Pga season is very realistic, and also all of the legend challenges. Playing skins against another person is great fun.9/10Overall=If 2006 is anything like this, then it will sell fast, but don't be scared of saving money by getting this instead. This is a very good game on the whole.8/10HOPE THIS HELPED!

Any golf fan in the world will like this game. But it is not only restricted to those golf. The main carreer mode involves playing amateures and proffessionals in your quest to play the legends. In the PGA Tour mode you can play in every single event in the tour in the season. The modes don't stop there. Tiger Proofing is a new addition in which you can change every single thing about the course of your choice. Y ou can change the colour of the Greens, bunkers, fairways and rough. Make it harder or easier for yourself and change the wind speed. In the challenge mode you are put in hard prediciments and have to battle your way out.Wheteher on not you enjoy watching it you will like playing it.

The game should be as good as everyone says it is - I've bought it and was well impressed until a certain section (Seve in the Legend Tour Mode) crashes. After going on to the EA Sports website and trawling through the chat boards, the PAL version of the game is littered with bugs (crashes, freezing etc). EA have confirmed that the new batch of glitter free PAL stock is due to arrive here at the end of October 2004 - my advise until then is unless you're that desperate (so have probably bought the game already), wait for the 'proper' release to come out.For those who have bought it on the release date, contact the store you purchased from who should allow you to simply exchange the game.

Tiger Woods 2005 will be the ultimate golf game. New features to be included is a tool that enables players to create and edit their own holes and courses. There will also be a legends tour that includes Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. The game will also have new courses to add to the stunning courses seen in previous Tiger Woods games. There is an all new chipping and putting system that allows players to be super accurate with their shots. Tiger Woods 2005 is going to be amazing and with the lack of other good golf games on PS2, Tiger Woods 2005 will be the obvious choice for anyone who wants a golf game.

This by far the greatest golf game ever. The ammount of game modes that there are on this game is unreal. Whether you just want a bit of fun against your housemate or join the PGA Tour for 30 years, Tiger Woods 2005 has it all.The controls are fluid, they actually have real brand names as apposed to just EA Sports gear, the new Tiger proofing of any golf course is a right old laugh. Overall this game has everything for everyone. It doesnt matter if you are a novice to golf and just want to swing or a seasoned pro who wants to win all the majors - Its all good!

I'm not a golfer but I enjoyed playing this. The graphics are reasonable but not great. The courses detailed enough. There are 11 courses + 3 to unlock [which will take an eternity to achieve] from all over the globe. What impressed me was the control system which is intuitive and easy to learn. This makes playing the game fun.Downside is that there is a lack of atmosphere, but just put some music on. Also, there are a lot of options and modes for the Tigger fan but I found them superfluous.I intend to buy TW 2008 on the back of this.

6.6.2009

still the only version to have, fluid putting, excellent gameplay, not too irritaing game progress unlike team play etc on later versions. graphics are a little worse off than later versions but thge gameplay is the only thing that matters. This is now my 3rd disc of this game it is played so much. still a gremlin in the game though that certain later parts of the game won't load properly especially in dream 18 challenges etc which is very very annoyingn overall though the best game ever on playstation 2

28.10.2004

I was greatly anticipating the release of TW2005 after playing the 04 version which I was hooked on. I am very happy with my purchase although there is a slight bug with loading Seve which has been sorted out in the new version. I was given the chance to change it for another game, but it says a lot that I wanted to hang on to it and play the other parts of the game until it could be replaced. My God, what a game! Buy this game.

I'm only giving this 5 stars because it could've been my fault. This was a Europe region game. I'm in America. I remember the post saying "Check region" but I don't remember if the region was actually noted in the listing. Regardless, I paid like $7(USD) and the shipping was free. Not that worried about it.

14.8.2011

Excellent game, although I am not a gamer. It was bought as a present but I did have a game and it is easy to follow and saves me wrecking any decent 18 hole course (I dig holes playing the real deal) so I'll stick to the screen version but only play when visiting the games' owner.
