The Town Of Light is an unusual game, and some may not consider it to be a game at all. This is what is sometimes called a "walking simulator", which began as a derogatory term but has since become the accepted name for this type of game. What we have here is an interactive story experience. You control your character, Renee, as she explores the abandoned, decaying asylum where she was treated as a teen and young woman. You can interact with objects and visit different areas to trigger flashbacks and learn parts of the story to discover what happened to this very troubled character. This is definitely not going to be for everyone. For one thing, if you are heavily into action games and big box titles, you probably won't find much value in The Town of Light. That's fine, I think it is great that the gaming industry is now so varied and produces different types of gaming experiences to suit a variety of different tastes. The story here is pretty heavy going, thankfully the practices and treatments dealt with in this story are long gone, and much more is now known about mental health issues. Renee's story is tragic, and what has happened to her is shown through black and white scenes, comic style drawings, and her own voice over. There is nothing too graphic here visually, although there is some nudity. However the story does feature some pretty shocking things done in the name of "curing" the patient, as well as plain and simple abuse. If you are likely to be bothered by this, you should definitely not pick up The Town of Light.I like all sorts of games, and value an interesting story in the titles I play. This story gave me plenty to think about, and will stay with me even after I have finished playing. The experience is short, you can reach the end of the story in 2-3 hours, but there is a certain amount of replayability on offer as you can make different choices when reading certain medical reports, which unlock different chapters leading to slightly different scenes, although you will not make any significant difference to the overall ending. If you enjoy trophy hunting you can achieve the platinum pretty quickly by playing through the game once, then repeating certain chapters, but I think it is better to play the complete game for each choice to get the full story experience, however this is of course up to you.On the whole, The Town of Light looks very pretty. The bright outdoors contrasts beautifully with the eerie, decaying building. The asylum is based on a real place and the game comes with a set of postcards featuring real location photos, which is a nice touch. As another reviewer mentioned, one particular chapter goes away from the asylum location and takes place in a school. This part is far less pretty and does look a bit basic, but it is just one part and as it is a dreamlike sequence I feel this is why the developer went for this different aesthetic for this particular scene. The game itself glitched on me at one point. I was unable to progress and could not work out why, so I turned to youtube for a guide. In the guide I was supposed to pick up an item on a table in a certain room. I was in the right room, I could see the table, but there was nothing on the table. I reloaded the chapter and thankfully the item was there this time and I was able to complete the game. Not a big issue but a minor annoyance. Aside from this, it ran as expected on my PS4.I know not everyone will like this game but if anything I wrote here interests you, I think this is definitely worth playing if you enjoy this genre of games. It is especially worth picking up if it is on sale or discounted.

This is a strange game. Quite depressing in a way as you take on the roll of a girl that was sent to an asylum where she was treated badly many years ago and now the asylum is abandoned.. The game play is ok but does get a little frustrating in places as I find a lot of the rooms look a lot the same, however it is very challenging and you tend to want to play it to help the character move on from her past and hopefully get the justice some how for what happened in her past. I have not played it much as It does tend to make you feel a little depressed but maybe that's just me. The graphics are good. Overall it's not the best game but everyone is different.

One of a kind and very different from every psychological thriller you would ever play. Here, the horror is human, way too human.I found this game a real masterpiece, but it's not for everyone, you must be a sensitive person, who loves introspection and is not looking for thrills and action. As an Italian person I appreciated the game even more, because the level of accuracy is impressive (I've seen the real asylum depicted here).

I enjoyed this game, it's an very emotional game about what mental health treatment was like in the old days ,its def not for kids , Must admit i got a bit teary eyed at the end.(it's not an Alton towers experience it's more like a cool museum ) You will not like this game if your are the sort of person that just wants action it's more more a deep thinking psychological experience. It was nice to experience something different.

I bought this because I suffer from Depression and Anxiety and I wanted to channel this through my love of gaming. But it’s important to know that although this is a brilliant game it’s deeply sad experiencing the story of this poor girl. What makes it worse is that people genuinely would have been treated like this for simply not behaving like other people. It’s truly sad and I was heartbroken come the end of the game.

For its price it was good.. Graphic not great to be PS4, story well made, kinda strong , short game but screenplay lovely to me.. As said to its price is worth it.. But it has got strong and creepy images.. Avoid to those are easily squeamish and if you have heart problem.. Never gonna make you jump from the chair but atmosphere is pretty dark and chaotic

A simple easy to play enjoyable game.Nice story and very much a game that you can just complete in a few hours and a nice break away from my usual all action sports or hack and slash tyoe games. I enjoy collecting old xbox games and will at the right price buy any game and little gems like this at an excellent price is a great reward.
