... ...This is the sims 2 right, as in the next installment in the series? Yes I know it is of course but so much is changed from sims 1 that it's better to think of this as a completely different game than a sequel. I haven't played sims 2, the standard edition, but yes there are many differences to the first sims game, and all are for the better.I can't possibly list all the new features, there are simply too many. The basic premise is the same, you control sims etc. But in this game there is no story mode that I can see of, instead you have aspirations and wants. You pick this whilst creating a sim, from options like family, wealth, knowledge creativity etc. So I've had goals like get a job in business, earn so many simoleons, hire a maid etc.Next the standard way of controlling your sim is via the thumbstick, in a 3rd person view. You can switch to the old style by pressing the select button, but this is just for the consoles(at least it was at the time from what I've read on the wiki) and this way of controlling your sim makes you feel much more immersed and feels so much more appropriate for the console versions.Next there is the main feature of course, pets. This is my first time playing a non-standard version of a sims game and I am amazed. It would have been so easy, so easy for the publisher to just tack this feature on and make it feel gimmicky, but instead it is implemented literally perfectly. You get to choose a cat or dog when creating a family (but this isn't mandatory). I think you have over 20 options of breed for both cats and dogs(but more for dogs obviously). They could have given you a token amount, but instead the choice is massive. With dogs for example you can pick from dogs you'd expect to see here like a Labrador golden retriever mix(I think that's what it said on the screen, I'm visually impared), a german shepherd etc. But you can also have not so obvious breeds like the French bulldog, different types of dogs like an Italian poodle I think etc, though I don't think I saw a husky. You can also have a parrot or hamster thing(think it's similar to one but called something different), haven't got these myself, but read online, I think you do it by buying the appropriate cages in the item menu then choosing to restock them. There are people online who say you can get a horse, snake etc but this isn't mentioned on the wiki or wikepedia, so I believe it to be false, but the choice is amazing. You can train your pets, play with them etc, and exit your house to go to the town square I believe to buy pet items, more pets(but ones you could have previously got via creating them yourself) and the area is surprisingly big. I am discovering new things pets can do too, I noticed my Doberman alerts me(or my sim I guess) of when the car for work arrives either to drop you off or pick you up by running up to it and barking, which I found quite useful. But there are other great features too, weather, the ability to cook actual meals, by choosing ingredients from the fridge freezer and combining them as you please or looking at the recipe book or harvesting food yourself. The graphics also seem much better and the different houses scenery seems more interesting and distinctive from other houses(though I didn't play story mode in the sims 1 where you go to different houses tbf). There are more new items of course, though it seems that there are no swimming pools. It also seems that you can't get children(I at least don't think you can pick to create one, and I think sims 3 added them back in). I also think sims 2 lets you pick to play as an alien(though it has been over 10 years since I played the sims 2 so don't quote me on that), but in this game you can't. But those are only minor things compared to the many additions. There are many other new things too, but I think I've covered the main ones, and ones I haven't are more minor such as stats such as hunger, relationships being clearer, item categories being improved etc. The ways to edit your sim are also more advanced now too and much more intuitive, not a new feature as such but a great overhaul. So sorry if that was a bit long, but there really is so much to talk about, I seriously could have made that longer, but wanted to cover just the main things. So overall an amazing game that feels so different to sims 1 it doesn't even feel like a sequel with some amazing new features, love it.

The Sims series originally started life on the PC but it has evolved immensely in the past few years and new editions are now available on other game consoles such as the Playstation 2, GameCube, Xbox and the Nintendo DS. The Sims formula has always been about imitating real life, controlling the Sims and their lives to complete the specific goals within the game while interweaving fun and humour. The latest edition is an improved version of Sims 2. It incorporates a host of delightful pets for the gamer to care for. At the beginning of the game you have to choose a character. There is a variety of attributes to choose such as gender, personality and aspirations as well as being able to customise the way your Sims look to create a totally unique Sim that only you can control.Once you have done that you can then choose the pets that you wish to add to your virtual family. There are a range of cat and dog breeds. The player is able to morph their appearance and personality to create a truly unique pet. There is a vast number of details and choice in the attributes that you can add to your Sims or their pets in this game. This is a really enjoyable part of it. This is what makes The Sims range very different from any other game on the market. The player can control and change the characters very easily whether you are an experienced Sims player or a complete beginner.Once you have made your virtual family, you can then move them and their furry friends into a house in the neighbourhood, either by building your own or by displacing another family. Only then does the game truly begin. The main idea of the game is to fulfil the needs and wants of both your Sims and their pets such as hunger, hygiene, energy etc. Sims also need to gain relationships and acquire skills to help them advance their career. These form part of their wants throughout the game. You can do this using a wide range of options such as reading a book, cooking a meal or playing a game. These activities have very quirky and well-animated outcomes, just like the other Sims games. This game gives you all the fun and options found in other Sims games but with the added feature of having pets to nurture and love. However, it does not actually allow you to control them. However, the player has to fulfil their wants and needs by influencing them through the Sims you have created such as teaching them skills, feeding them and playing with them. This is a little disappointing as you would expect to be able to control them, although the way these loveable creatures interact with the Sims and their surroundings, more than makes up for this minor disappointment. This game also allows you to travel to a charming little town square where you and your pets can socialise and buy pet supplies from a variety of stores. The more you visit this town and buy pet-orientated items, the more the town develops. This means that more options become available to you and your pet.The Sims currency is simple, at home you can earn simoleons from work to buy items around the home and you can earn pet points by fulfilling your pet's wants and needs which you can spend in the town square. Don't worry if you do not have enough pet points to buy your next purchase, because there is an ATM machine where you can convert simoleons to pet points. Genius!Overall this game is much more challenging than other Sims varieties, as you are now not only looking after your Sims but their pets as well. While the original formula and experience has stayed the same, the game has improved a great deal. The controls are much better and easier to handle. The speed at which the game loads is much faster too. This game may be criticised for being a bit dated as the formula has stayed the same but I think this game will appeal to new Sims players and the more experienced ones. One word of warning though; once you start playing this game, you will find it hard to put down. This game will keep both the young and old amused for hours. At price of only £19.99, it is well worth the money.By Samantha Penn

BEST GAME EVER MADE!!I never though it would be possiblrebut here it is!!!The lowdown:After years of trying to create less complex, mini-game orientated spin-offs it seems EA are now keen to see the PC and console The Sims games converge. This new iteration is an expansion pack on the PC but a full price, stand alone game on the consoles. As the name subtly hints the main addition to the game this time round is a number of four-legged friends, plus fish and birds (although it's really cats and dogs that get most of the attention). You can also create your own personalised pet via a complex customisation tool that's just as versatile as the one for humans and on the PC version you can even sendyour four-legged friend to work! Most exciting moment:On the PC this is a perfectly welcome but very narrow expansion. However the full price console version is actually a considerable improvement on the original with an easier-to-use interface, better artificial intelligence and even reduced loading times.Since you ask:The next PC expansion pack is called In Season and seems to be roughly analogous to The Sims expansion On Holiday, in that it'll focus on exterior objects and locations. It's not yet clear whether there'll be a console version. The bottom line:Finally, The Sims is made to work on consoles!-HARRISON DENTManufacturer's DescriptionFrom scampering pooches to cuddly kittens to guinea pigs, add to your Sims' lives with new animal friends. Choose from popular dog and cat breeds or customize their features to create a unique pet for your Sim to raise as one of the family. Whether Sims are romping with their pets in the central town park or searching the shops for the perfect pet accessory, keep one thing in mind Sim pets have minds of their own, so expect the unexpected.AS YOU CAN SEE THIS ROCKS

I had been looking for this game for ages and when I finally bought it, at first i was confused and fustrated with having to look after my pets and also my sim. But i soon caught on and now i can play it for hours. Not much is different from The Sims 2, except some items of clothing, hairstyles and so home materials and of course not forgetting the addition of a furry friend to your home. You can choose from many breeds of cats and dogs and even get mixed breeds through randomize or through breeding ( you can not breed a cat with a dog of course ), you can even give your pet a jacket, shoes and a hat or glasses (much like those annoying few who actually do dress up their animals). Fur colours such as blue, green, pink ect are also on this game, although some have to be unlocked through pet points, achived when your pet has completed a want.Toys, shelters and clothing can also be unlocked in the town square. Here you can buy things for you pets, get them washed, board them in a kennel when you feel you need a break and also buy new pets and sell your old ones. The more you spend the more the town grows. Also meet new people from the neighbour hood, or if you just feel you need a break away from home with your pet, to help bound and teach it tricks without distraction you can both travel to the square. Maybe you pet will meet another pet and make a new friend or more.Over all The Sims pets is a must buy for any Sims fans.

I loved playing the original Sims but couldn't get it to run on my PC after a while, so I was keen to get a similar game I could run from the Playstation without fear of damaging my PC. This game is definitely it.I've really enjoyed playing it, and had very few problems, so long as I save regularly. Its not a game that has a definite beginning and end, its just an organic process of enjoying getting characters to interact - which has suited me down to the ground, really. Some good laughs (especially when characters get abducted by aliens!) and lots of activities to master. It has certainly kept me occupied for hours at a time over many days while I've been recovering from an operation.Recommended - but be warned, it will eat into your social life!!

You cannot say that just because S2P does not have any children that it is a bad game. It can get a lil repetitive, but it is still pretty good - lets face it you are never going to find a game with NO bad points, it just doesn't happen. Although the game is reccomended highly by me, I think that the PC version is better. However the PC version doesn't work on most computers - shame. Buy this one, it has much better clothes and you can have tatoos and necklaces + a purple dog - if you want it!!! The pets are awsome, really, any breed, creed, or colour! It really is somthing specail. Furniture is also good - the guitar is the best thing money can buy!!I'd buy it if I were u!

All the slowness and boring hard graft of the sims 2 has been illiminated, here we get proper weekends which punctuates the game nicely and the use of the garden swing for making friends is excellent and so fast unlike `socialise` in sims 2. I really enjoyed playing this game and still do, in fact I probably play it too much. The only gripe I have is when the dog learns not to dig or pee he often needs goes back to doing it!!! Oh and dont ever choose a hyper dog cos that never stops digging nor will it allow you to bath him/her, lazy ones are easiest!!!

yes when buying this i got a friend that has a ps2 and well i asked if i buy a game may i come over now and then and play on it? and he said yes and well bought this for a great price, played it worked well, but yeah does not feel as fun as in the past but duhh that to me does not effect this review much but for a kinda fan of the sims (apart from sims 4 i hate how they made it go back to sims 2 when sims 3 was a hit but scraped almost all of sims 3) this is a nice item to get and if you can slightly nice to play it :)

2.1.2007

Much like the other games in the Sim's genre, there is no plot or storyline to the game, just open-ended gameplay which can get a little boring but in replace there is always something to strive for, (ie, a career or unlocking bonus clothes and people)The game itself is very similar to the previous Playstation 2 Sims title, but slightly improved and with the addition of pets.In my opinion it is a good game for a while, but if you have a decent pc get the pc expansion pack as it's much better.

15.11.2007

This Game is very very good. However I don't really like the pets. This is because they are so hard to look after because there is just not enough time. All that happens to them is that they chew things, pee everywhere, make new annoying scoundrels and run away. Even though that is a major proplem I like the humans life. So instead of getting this game I wold advise that everyone should get just the normal 'Sims 2'.

I havnt got this game but i lent it off my mate, and i dont want to give it back to her!!The graphics are really good and so is the gameplay....I had this game on the Nintendo DS But i was really diserpointed and when i lent this i thought it was goning to be the same but noooo this is alot better!I love the idea of unlocking new colours to colour your cats and dogs! You can even put clothes on your pets!!! :)

5.8.2006

Your sims have a new friend! Pets!!! Over 30 breeds of CAt and Dog can be bought in this game! Not a cat or dog person? Try a Womrat (wombat crossed with a rat), a skunk, a hamster or a parrot! Make designer pets and adopt strays! Make differnet breeds with long tails and legs and and a small head! Has to be the best Expansion Pack for the Sims 2!
