This game is very different to any other sim game in the way it plays and the clear goals you have. This game starts with you creating a crew. You can create anything from 1 sim to 6 although if you are used to the sims on pc the controls to create their faces and hair, etc will feel limited. Once you create your crew (you can have one crew per memory card) you pick the sim you wish to start the game with and then it begins. All your sims crash on an island and get separated (can't help feeling like the tv series Lost helped inspire this game). You start by controlling just your one sim, but unlike usual sim controls you very much feel like it's you who are playing through the game as you tell the sim where to go by moving the left thumb stick forward, left, right etc, rather than the 'go here' method. The game introduces all the concepts slowly so there's no need to read any manual. This game is very different to other sim games as you constantly unlock new areas and new items for your sims. You collect items all the time throughout the game such as harvesting soft wood or bamboo. The game introduces new areas and you gradually get to explore more and more of the island and its native inhabitants (chimpanzees).Once your sim is established enough, and you choose how quickly you want to progress the game, it can move to another island (3 in total). Along the way there are secrets to be discovered, new plants to harvest and you will finally meet up with your crewmates.I won't detail the story anymore but I'd like to talk about what is different from regular sim games. The first new feature is the controls I've described. I actually think they are very good and make you really feel like YOU are lost on an island, I think it makes the game more fun.Secondly the things to unlock are huge and there is a huge range of things for sims to make. Your sims will eventually tear their clothes and can make themselves new ones by using different things they harvest such as banana leaves and vines. There are also lots of things to be discovered, messages in bottles, crates, island secrets. There is far more to discover here than in castaway stories.Sims hair grows! All sims hair grows over time, and male sims get very long beards, you keep having to trim it or just leave it alone but I just love the realism here! :)The story can have an ending or not, it's up to you how you want your sims to live, whether you want to be friends with crewmates or ignore them completely. And how far and at what rate you want to discover the islands is up to you too.Maybe it's the Lost fan in me that really enjoyed this game but I keep playing it again and again. The saving of the game does take a long time and so does loading your game...seems to take longer than any other game saved on a memory card that I have. You have to wait a bit between areas too but you get to listen to some sim music, it doesn't bother me that much but be aware if you plan on going back and forth as these loading times can start to annoy.I give this game 5 stars because apart from the loading time lengths I've run into no other problems. The game is very open and although you follow the same basic story each time I always get a different experience playing again and again as there are so many different options on what to wear, how many crew members, do I want to get to know the chimps, etc.I'd recommend this game to anyone who likes the sims or anyone who likes the whole desert island thing. A great game!

The Sims 2: Castaway is a lot different to previous Sims games. You first make a crew of Sims, each having their own skills and personalities, then you pick the Sim you want to start off with. After that, it shows your crew on a boat having fun, but then a storm arrives and your crew falls overboard. Your Sim is washed up on a small beach and from there it begins. As you explore the island you will find a lot of food you will need to harvest to survive, like fruit, berries, vegtables, etc. But it's not only food you need. Other things like wood and vines you will need to craft tools and build too. There are three islands in total you can explore. Each one having their own secrets. There are chimps that live on the islands that can become friends and even butlers. Your other crew members will show up also as you explore more.I found this game enjoyable. The goals you have to do are quite easy, and it is fun trying to work out where you want to build your home. You can control the other crew members, which is handy, but only when they become a part of your tribe. When you have a full tribe you can really build great things.Your Sims do become scruffy over time and their clothes get ruined, so making new clothes is a must. Things like that are very realistic. So, instead of going to bed, getting up for work, etc, this game is all about exploring, building and trying to survive. A great new Sims game. The only real bad thing about this game is the loading times, which can get quite annoying.Oh, and watch out for those pigs.

This was my first Sims game and so far I'm really impressed.I bought it a couple of months ago and put it away in my box of PS2 games and never played on it. However a couple of days ago, upon being bored I decided to play it. Despite being slightly slow to start with I was soon immersed in the game and left wondering where the time had gone five hours later.I really enjoy playing on this, gathering food and resources, crafting shelters and tools, making clothes, persuing love interests, talking to the chimps and my other castaways, dancing to the radio, chillin' in the hot springs. There is just so much to do and you can never say there isn't anything to do.I particiulary like being able to make six characters and playing as them all and I also love crafting the shelters and am looking forward to creating the mini mansion bungalow andfilling it with tables, lights, beds, chairs and then cooking meals on the stove and serving them at the table for everybody to eat. Another thing I like is the cooking and being able to tell stories around the fire as well as being able to sit on the love seat with your love interest. This game has an addicting quality that leaves you wanting to play more. I reccomend this game to people who love survival games and just being able to do whatever you want.I came away from this game with a good impression and promtly order ps2 games The Urbz: Sims In The City and The Sims: Bustin' Out and also order the ds version of Sims 2: Castaway so expect reviews on them soon.

I am a total Sims addict and thought not much could be improved until I got the Sims 2: castaway. It's so much more than the normal Sims game, you actually have to think about what your doing, gather provisions in order to be able to survive, complete goals that have been set, solve puzzles to open doors and learn new skills to enable you to get to new islands. The only down side is that it is really hard to get friendly with your crew mates (once you've found them). You can get them up to maximum friendliness and try something like a romantic hug which upsets them and drops your relationship rating down again, so it's really hard to build relationships unless it's with one of the chimps!Sometimes it can take ages loading the game when you move from one area to another but I have noticed that it takes longer in areas, where for example camps have been built, so presumably it's to do more with the fact it has to load a lot more detail?! Other than these minor grumbles I love the game and haven't stopped playing it since I got it

i actually avoided this game for a long time. i am an avid sims fan and was told that this game was nothing like the other sims games and was not very good, silly me for believing them! i finally decided to give it a go after being fed up with my adventure games and was i disappointed, ABSOLUTLY NOT! it is brilliant, i am addicted totally. i made a mistake and only created 2 sims when i started the game, you need lots so you can build up tribes, so make a few. you can assign sims to tasks such as fishing/cooking/collecting food and resources, they will perform these tasks everyday when you are not controlling them, i swap between them each day as i only have 2 sims.the game opens up slowly but its so exciting when you find a new place to explore, i cant leave it alone. and yes you can build houses, farm, fish and swim in the sea. i leave my game running when i go to work and they continue to collect things i need, super. i won't tell you any more, if you want to find out, THEN BUY IT!

Sims 2 Castaway is a fantastic game. Put it this way, I get the game, put it on and then realise 4 hours later at 2am that I really ought to get to bed! The whole concept is very refreshing and challenging without being frustratingly so.Yes there are a couple of issues, the loading times can be annoying, but to be clear we are talking 10-20 seconds, not minutes, so its not that offputting and gives you a chance to slurp your tea. Exploring the islands is great fun, the other Sims are a little on the stroppy side which is surprising as you were on a boating holiday together.Top tip - the chimps - you'll love them and if they love you they save you effort. You must find the plane's radio - not that it does much but watching the sims and the chimps dancing is worth the time.In a word - excellent - enjoy!

Being addicted to all the previous sims I was just so excited to get my hands on a new game and what a game, so different and that made it more of a challenge the old style sims had gotten a bit formulaic get a house get a job/pet get this get that etc you know how it goes. Downsides? Well loading times, the odd bit of freezing during gameplay which means you have to regularly save (you only forget to do this once as it infuriates you so much!) and the bad temperedness of the sims characters honestly you can make em as `nice` as poss and they still argue all the time I suppose its being stranded on a desert island! Still have to find the last bit of map so must get back to it!

31.12.2007

The main plotline consists of a crew of sims who end up being stranded on a series of 3 desert islands. You have to bring the crew back together, learn how to survive and build a boat strong enough to get you home. The survival aspect of the game is well thought out and the puzzles can be challenging but even though this is an improvement on the last game, the Sims 2 Pets, you can't help feeling it could have been so much better.A few glitches in the game can be frustrating and the long loading times are very tiring but the game is still fun and is a welcome twist on The Sims Genre of game.A good buy for any 'Sims' fan.

Game is very good, and is unlike other Sims games in the series in that the characters can be controlled using the joystick rather than pointing and clicking on objects to make them move. It's well worth buying the game-guide also, although there are plenty of free guides on the Internet. Fruit and nuts can be harvested from different parts of the jungle. Animals can be caught (apart from the monkeys!) and rope and leaves can be harvested in order to build houses, make clothes and craft tools. Very good game! It's a fun take on survival games.

19.11.2008

This game is awesome. I was completely hooked on it from start to finish. Even though your Sims are stuck on a desert island, it never gets boring. There are always things to do, recipes to make, things to build etc etc. It can get challenging as well, especially when you're desperately trying to build up your skill points so that you can complete a task. In my opinion it's a game for all gamers, whether you're casual or hardcore. Having already played it through once this will definitely be a game I can enjoy playing again and again.

2.11.2007

This game is brilliant, i was so excited when i heard about this, ive bought every sims game and this is by far the best, insted of the usual going to work, coming home and working on your career, this is all about survival it's awesome, I cant stop playing it, you can explore the island and find your own food, it's an excellent twist on the sims, i couldnt recommend it more, definitely buy this game!

6.1.2008

The game is started when you make a crew then you choose which sim you want to start off as, on the island you can make friends with monkeys. This might sound wierd but it makes your social bar go up. When your clothes go tatty you can make new clothes out of material e.g bamboo and vine. The game is very good, but it is harder to get your bars go up.

15.5.2011

Such a fun game to play, so much to learn, teach and do!Game play is slightly slower than i would like as some stages take longer to load, but doesnt stop you from playing! There are lots of tasks and goals to complete which is awesome! Some are more tricky than other, deffinatly a great game to play if you like games such as virtual villagers.

I bought this second hand on amazon and it is in perfect condition. I do not play sims on computer because I never saw the point but this was recommended. I dusted off the old ps2 and started playing. It is sooooo much fun. There is so much to do and so many objectives. I would love a newer version of this with better graphics released on ps3.
