Arrived very quickly!I owned both The Sims and The Sims 2 series and have to say this is the best one yet but the neighbourhood thing is a bit confusing. The pets expansion definitely makes the game more interesting and it is actually the only reason I bought the Sims 3 in the first place! It works fine on my laptop which actually really struggled with The Sims 2 although this one does crash sometimes if I switch from the top game speed to the lowest when the graphics are set high but I suspect it is just that my video card isn't high enough but when I turned the graphics down this stopped happening. This is the only glitch I have experienced in the game,I know lots of people complain of more but I have only had this one problem and I suspect it is just my video card isnt high enough to run it at the high graphics setting. The wildlife is a welcome addition from the previous versions, with deer, racoon and wild horses you can tame and even the odd unicorn! You can also find turtles and beetles etc wandering in the grass and keep them as pets. You can create dogs, cats and horses when creating your household with lots of options for premade markings or you can create your own and choose any colour you want with new more advanced options. The equestrian centres and animal shelters change their adoptable animals which keeps me going back to check what's on offer. With this expansion pack you also get some pretty nice furniture :DHorses can graze on grass but also require hay which has to be pulled from bales by sims or it is provided within stables. Unfortunately you can only train for jumping or racing but it takes a long time to finish this training and after you finish your racing training your horse gallops really fast everywhere! They are very handy for getting around and you can also make money from them by offering your stallion for stud at the equestrian centre where you can also sell your horses and breed your mare. You can lead your horse as well as ride it. At the equestrian centres you can partake in competitions, riding lessons and sometimes a special event is offered by a top horse trainer who will significantly help improve your horses skill when you attend their class. When training for jumping you can have a large variety of jumps from normal poles to cross country jumps and you can set up courses. Your horse can train for racing and training with or without your sim and you can go to a community lot and jump with others.Cats have much more open options to e.g climb around under chairs, climb over them or nap on them. They can also kill other pets you get like birds.Dogs can now swim in the pool and because it is open world, when the sims take them for a walk you can follow them on their walk! They also now put them on a lead and the dog stops to sniff things along the way.You can now get other small pets such as turtles, snakes and birds. (I haven't explored all of these)Definitely worth buying, check your system meets the requirements before you buy and you might have to put the graphics down to help it run. Fortunately the game automatically offers you new patches on start-up if you need them!

I am a huge animal lover, and especially of horses! When I found out that the Sims 3 Pets was going to have horse son it, I was so happy! The addition of horses is really good. The graphics on the horses are better than any horse virtuality game, but caring for your horse is not so complicated! You merely have to see that your horse has water and food. Actually, a horse can live purely independantly. Thanks to the feature of you being able to control pets now, you can make your horse drink from ponds or the sea, graze on the grass, gallop around for exercise and interact with random sims for social. The horses' needs are as follows:Hunger: Pretty obvious, really. A horse can be fed hay, treats or graze on grass.Thirst: Again, obvious. You can buy a water trough, or hitching rail which comes with hay and water, but your horse can also drink from natural water, such as ponds or the sea.Sleep: Your horse sleeps standing up. When in control, you just select your horse and click the 'Nap' option. It doesn't nap like sims, your horse will sleep till it is fully rested. Napping is only available when yoru horse is quite tired.Exercise: Riding your horse provides lots of exercise, and your horse can also gallop randomly around on its own.Social: If your horse is cared for by a sim, the affection provides socialisation just like sims, with options such as 'Hug'.Bladder: Your horse pees himself when his bladder is full. When controlling your horse, select the horse and the 'Pee' option. The sims' needs 'Fun' and 'Hygiene' are removed for horses. You can brush them and clean their hooves, very basically, and your sim only cleans two hooves. You can brush whenever you like, but you can only clean their hooves once every 24 hours. The horse gets good feelings for both.Other things you can do for your horse: When creating a horse, you can choose an elder or adult horse. You can make their coat colour anything, and their mane and tail can be any colour and a variety of styles. You can edit all of their features ina complicated and confusing advanced mode. You can also choose and customise their tack. Before riding you tack your horse up, and when your sim reaches a certain Riding skill point they can ride their horse bareback. Your horse can learn personality traits such as 'Fast', 'Obedient' and 'Agile'.The other pets are dogs and cats, and various small pets such as birds and fish. Cats and dogs are basically the same as horses, with customisable coats and accessories in the Create part. You buy them a bed, food bowl, etcetra. The dog needs to chew things, and if it doesn't have a chew toy or has the 'Destructible' trait it will resort to knawing on furniture. Cats need to scratch, so buy them a scratching post or else see them scrape your couch up! You can bathe cats or dogs, and you need to brush them to avoid them catching fleas. It is very easy for your sim and pet to grow close. Pets don't need so much caring for as they did with The Sims 2 Pets, because you can control them.A brilliant game, I'm glad I bought it, would recommend it to anyone. Oh, I forgot to mention! All big animals can have babies. :)

Before I address the actual game, I am going to go into detail the problem with the game, first. For my entire Sims life, I have never pre-ordered a Sims game - until Sims 3 Pets. Ultimately, I should have learnt my lesson by recalling past problems with Sims Expansions as soon as they were available. What's the problem, then? Everything works fine and dandy, but the pets; cats, dogs and horses, all look like a scribbles and their pictures... wow... it looks like they have had their faces melted.I first booted it up, I went onto a family with just the one horse. From a far distance I saw the bad detail, and usually if you zoom in, the quality vastly improves. However, much to my dismay,it looked worse zoomed in. The poor, poor creature with a jaw that reached the floor and limbs which flail meters into the air!NOTE: My Sims 3 game, along with Late Night and Generations, worked perfectly fine, no graphics problems before. A lot of other people have been having the same problem with Sims 3 Pets (see the Sims 3 forum, for example), and I think the conclusion that's been (very roughly) made is that EA has raised the specifications of Sims 3 Pets without detailing it in the actual system requirements... Rumour has it a patch is being released in 2 weeks time, though.Disregarding this problem, the new interactions are really great, and I really love the look of the new neighbourhood, Appaloosa Plains. The sweeping view and twisting roads with houses with large fields, in contrast to the modern houses atop the steep hill, is really great.Horses are definitely the most notable new feature. It's great fun riding them, training them and entering them into competitions. It's a bit of a faff, if you want to switch from racing your horse, to jumping, that if you have to get off and jump through hoops until you switch it to the right saddle (from my knowledge, I don't know if racing and jumping work with just the everyday saddle, I haven't tried that yet). There are a number of new families which you can try out in the new neighbourhood, and I noticed that their biography/descriptions are a LOT longer than they used to be, so you have more background knowledge about the family before you even click the tick to play them, which I think is a good thing. All in all, if it wasn't for the poor graphics of just the pets, I would really love this expansion. The actual additions to the game play are great, but I would really like to see pets that look like pets. If you know you have a great graphics card - then go for it. However if yours just reaches the requirements for Sims 3, then I'd be wary.

To be honest, I did no even know what I was doing when I bought this. I really wanted to play it at the time, so I just very quickly ordered it, without even realising what I was doing! (Tad silly of me, as £24 is a lot of money for me to spend). So I was a bit panicky about this game, on whether I had wasted my money or not.The first thing I did when I got my game was add a cat to my household through the adopt pet from shelter (you can also adopt pet from neighbourhood) which was very easy to do so, you choose the pet you would like (and when your pet comes, you can customise its fur if you do not like the look of it) and it arrives very quickly. However, I soon got quite bored of having a cat, which I wanted most.So then, I made a new household with a horse, in the new town (I love the new town that comes with the game, it has a lovely country feeling to it). And I did not expect myself to enjoy having a horse so much, I love it! You can build their riding and jumping skills, ride them round the town and breed them, which annoyed me a bit because the foal was so annoying. But there is not much for the horse to do if the sim is not interacting with them, they have a ball to play with and a salt lick, which is a tad boring.I have only just started playing with a dog and it is quite fun! You can teach it tricks, take it on walks (the downside of this, is that you can only take it on a walk to a community lot and not a specific place of your choice, I think anyway), teach it to hunt and a few other things!I thought it was a bit of a pain that the animals could only have 3 traits, but soon figured that they can acquire many more as the game gets played. There are a few more items of clothing, not fabulous, but there are designed around country/cowboy type things. No new jobs, unless you count winning money from horse races as one.I really do recommend this game if you have the money to spend on it (I personally would have liked to have waited til it went down to about £19). However, I personally think there were no surprises in all honesty, when I buy an expansion pack, I like to come across something that I would think, "omg this is so cool, I would not have expected this!", but there was nothing like that really, there were no big 'shocks' or 'surprises' if you would call them that. That is why I give this 4/5!

The 'Pets' expansion pack does what it says on the tin - it introduces dogs, cats and horses into the game. Households can adopt these pets for free from the pet shelter or neighbours, and they join the house as playable characters. Pets can have relationships, get pregnant, and have family trees. Pet life spans can be controlled as for human Sims. There are also a multitude of small pets that can be caught and housed in terrariums/cages/aviaries. Small pets can be a pain as they have to be fed daily so I recommend only keeping one or two at a time. Playable pets are more fun. Dogs can be taught tricks and to hunt, horses can be trained to race and hunt, and cats can be taught to hunt.Pets have traits in the same way that Sims do, and some traits can be trained in. So a messy dog can be trained to become 'neat' with enough positive and negative reinforcement (relevant interactions will appear).Much like in the real world, pets are great fun but can be very timeconsuming and expensive. If you have a full household of Sims, having a couple of pets too will stretch the abilities of even the most experienced players. It takes time and effort to train and care of a pet and this can detract from other activities you may want your Sim to do, such as earning money, bringing up children, improving school grades, or learning skills. If you wanted to really take advantage of the full features, you would need to decide to focus purely on these aspects of play. I found that pets' motives decayed very quickly, making them harder to keep happy than human Sims. The game also introduces strays, that can cause problems in your garden, although you can buy a device to keep them away.I didn't really tap anything like the full potential of this expansion as it just didn't fit in with my game play priorities at the time. I often find my game preferences reflect my own life - and in real life I have no pets and never have done. For the same reason, I am sure there are a lot of Simmers out there who will love these aspects. Certainly the animals were very realised and there are lots of opportunities to play differently. So although I have not made much use of this expansion myself, I would still highly recommend it as I can see its appeal for many gamers.

i found it alot of fun i espically love that is quite country style so very texas themed and the world is pretty big and i find very imaginitive i love the little parks for the dogs and catsand what it comes with is:-a world (large, different and of course fun to roam around)-clothes women and men and some dress up clothes for the kids-hairstyles women and men includes things like cowboy hats e.t.c-and of course pets =cats = very cute very annoying when it comes furniture seing as they actually scratch things like a very expensive couch that someone spent ages saving up for now i also find that honeslty not that fun i am a cat lover but the dog is more fun you can take it on walks and it hasalot more stuff to do + if you have supernatural its a good idea to have a witch with a cat ...- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -dogs= now like cats they do scartch things -_- which leads to you needing to buy a new one -_- but i find they are alot of fun and very sentimental they make bff's with your sims like the cat and there is many different breeds like chiwawa to husky they are split into groups small and large there is not much of a difference they are just big or small so yeah.. and they like cats and horses get traits! woo i loved it they are quite similar to the cats traits but i think there is more to choose from and they lead to the gameplay-- -- -- - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - -- - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -horses = wow i loved this so fun but you will need alot of space for the stable and if you want to train your horse you will need alot of space luckily the houses in the world you you get are quite cheap and have lots of space so yay! and you race other horses and get money and there are three stages easy=bronze medium=silver hard!=gold and you get a cup there are two show jumping and raceing not really very different but yu feel theres a differencetraits- traits are (for sims) animal themed i think there are just about 4 animal lover, cat lover, dog lover and equestrian unfortanitley you cant pick two like dog lover and cat lover without equestrain but you can pick animal lover for all three

I gave this a five star rating because simply, it is. I have only recently bought the PC version because the price dropped significantly and I have to say I was impressed. It didn't take too long to install either which is always a bonus. The game is VERY impressive even when only added to the base game. You can raise horses, cats or dogs. Each of those have a large number of breeds to choose from. You can breed your animals and keep your pets family tree going as well as your family Sims. You can have up to 10 sims/pets in your household in any variation (You must have at least one sim). I'm usually quite unsure with buying expansions because you never really know what's been added or how muchyou get or if its worth the price but I bought pets because its kind of obvious what its about and what it adds. You can control the pets this time round. No more having your sims running around hand and foot. All you really have to do with your sim is fill pet bowls and clean litter boxes. You can control the animals for every other aspect which gives your sims freedom to go about their daily routine. Pets can also look after themselves should you choose not to control them as long as you leave free will on. Pets can learn skills and sims can also learn horse related skills. There are extra traits included in the game such as "Cat Person" to add. You can also have small pets like snakes and birds and even turtles if you don't want the responsibility of a larger pet. These only really need feeding but you can teach parrots to talk.Basically this game is exactly what it says on the tin. Pets pets and more pets. Good thing is that you are not required to have pets even with this expansion on. You can quite easily just have sims until you're ready for pets. I definitely recommend this game if you're an animal lover (And equally a Sims lover) and its going pretty cheap on Amazon right now. I don't have any complaints about the game at all.

This is the first expansion pack I have bought for Sims 3 and overall I am pleased with it.Advantages-Loads of different kinds of pets available with different breeds; lizards, snakes, turtles, horses, dogs, cats, rodents, birds, beetles, butterflies and even some ants!-New products to enhance your game-Great design feature for create-a-sim for the pets, you can even give them traits!-More interactions and things for your sim to do such as entering horse riding competitions and teaching your parrot to talk!-More traits for your sim such as animal lover and cat person-A new world-More community lots such as a cat jungle and horse ranch-You can control/play the larger pets; dogs, cats and horses but still interact with the smaller animalsDisadvantages-Had problems with the game (would freeze after creating a sim) first time I installed it and had to uninstall the main game and the expansion pack and install them again. Though this problem was resolved after doing this.-Occasionally gets frozen when loading lots to edit them (gets stuck on processing)-Does not have a pet shop!! Which was defo a disappointment! I was expecting a pet shop where you could go to and purchase things! You can create your own or download one from the Sims 3 exchange but you cannot implement the buy feature and therefore its browsing items only.Overall I would recommend this product as I am having loads of fun with it, particularly designing new lots with the new pet items and exploring the new world.

I had to wait to buy a new laptop just to play sims 3 and it was worth the wait, when I played sims 2 pets I used to build houses with stables just for the hell of it and now I can build stables and actually put horses in them! I have been playing the game for 3 days now and have built afew properties and created a few families. I have bred my horses and designed a zebra horse lol you can enter competitions, go for a ride along the street, visit equestrian centres, go shopping, drive around in your car etc etc. The one thing I'm not keen on is the fact the worlds are pre-made I would prefer to start my own neighbourhood from scratch, which I'm sure if I read the book I may be able to do?I expected a lot more animal themed items with this expansion pack but I'm quite disappointed. You can get horse jumps, water troughs, hitch posts and hay, a ball and a salt lick but I expected more home decor like horse themed wall paper or ribbons to decorate stables and so forth.... The dogs look much better than the sims 2 pet game and the cats are pretty much the same. You can also purchase a bird tree, a snake vivarium, a lizard vivarium, goldfish bowl and a rodent vivarium.I have only just started so I'll edit the review should I figure anything else out :) I would advise having a quick look for vids of sims 3 pets on you tube just to get a sense of what is to be expected. Love this game now I'm waiting for a whole farmyard expansion pack to be released!! lol

This is a good expansion pack, which actually adds enjoyment to the game. It is an improvement on the old Sims 2 Pets pack for several reasons. Firstly in addition to customising the look of your pet, you can now customise their accessories and choose from a wider range of character traits. With this pack you can also now actually play as your pet, and are able to fully control their actions and interactions. Your pet now has it's own wishes you can attempt to fulfil to gain "Lifetime Happiness" points. The best feature of all is the addition of horses. You can ride, train and groom your horse, buy equestrian goods (including different types of jumps), and can even become a "jockey".There is also a lot more new actions, interactions and training features available with the other pets, and new lifetime wishes for your human sims.In addition to the horses, dogs and cats, you can also collect birds, snakes, lizards and even turtles. There is a new town full of special "pet features" and if you go the collections section of the Build Menu, you'll find a new Sims 3 Pets collection of building & decor features, pet related goods and furnishings. There is no instruction manual included in the game box, but you have the option of using the in-game tutorial if you need it, though if you're used to playing the Sims you should be able to work it out as you go along. So it's a good pack and definitely worth buying if you're a fan of the Sims.

Bought this for my girlfriend for xmas, and she was thrilled to have it. She was always a fan of The Sims games, and we had Sims 3 and she loves animals. This was the obvious choice of expansion for her.We did have a few issues getting it started, but I quickly googled the error, and we were away. The great thing about this is, you get a new town to raise your family in, so you don't have to get bored with always starting the same place etc. You can add a pet straight away and give them traits! As well as being able to buy pets and train them throughout the game. Another brilliant thing is that you can actually take control of the pets and tell them what to do.For example if you are a dog you can tell it to go and show your owner love, or go digging for something. All of their skills can be improved just like a person on Sims. The graphics are as you would expect from a Sims game, same style etc. Same level of detail so nothing I wasn't expecting there. And of course all of the controls are the same.Overall this is a very good addition to the Sims games, in which I think gives you a hell of a lot of things that you can do for the price. Was an excellent purchase and would recommend to anyone that enjoys Sims or/and loves animals!

i got this game a few days ago and the animation and the creativity and every thing is just beautiful i must say that i have been around horses most of my life and how they get the animals to interact with both others and each other is MOSTLY similar to how im used to seeing horses and dogs react (as i dont own a cat) but for the side of horses one of the best graphics for a game with horses (as ones i have been on before have been animated in a lazy way and you can tell) i rate it 4 out of 5 as i fell there are things that could be improved with a bit more research but it clear there is some like with the arab horse breed in create a horse mode, this face looks really off but it is because the 'dish'shaped face looks more broken and he deepest point is too high up near the eyes compared to the real breed but personally i think the anglo arab looks more like a normal arab. But if you love the sims and are not sure go for it as you wont regret it and it is very entertaining :D

I have a gaming PC, so I didn't have the problems that people with less powerful machines had (which caused many problems for those players, who still wanted to blmae EA for not making the game to work for their PCs) ...Anyway. I did not see any issues apart from the horses galloping at level 10, but that has not been fixed with a patch. It's a great addition to the Sims, and honestly they should have brought this EP out much, much sooner. My adivce would be to check your system and upgrade if needed. Not everyone is going to be able to play this game even if the previous EP worked find (Pets is a very demanding game on resources) but if you don't upgrade your pc and continue to play.Don't blame EA because it's not their fauilt the game won't work on your PC.The graphics are amazing, my pets have fur and my game does not lag or close down without warning (My game only closes down my I save and quit)I have all EP's, SP's and 95% of store content.

After reading so many reviews on this game online it made me wonder whether I should get this game or not... I made sure my iMac meeted the correct system requirements to play this game and decided to give it a try!The game installed quick, created a family... Moved them into a house and the game crashed/froze. I had to turn my mac off, which can't be good! I started the game again and it managed to work without crashing - which was a good sign! After playing it for a while I experienced no problems with this game (so far), so hopefully it will stay good!Overall, I really like this game and love the fact you can have dogs, cats, horses etc!I have enjoyed all the sims games so far and I would reccomend the games!:)Before you decide to get this game, make sure your computer/mac can play this by checking your system info! Make sure you have got a good graphics card and enough RAM and hard drive space!Sarah

This expansion pack is great if you are really into the sims game play. It also has lots of new items such as with furniture and in architecture buildmode. The new town apppeloosa plains (i know i spelt it wrong) is great and there is less rabbit holes. You can chose from a dog,cat or horse and there are more animals such as snakes birds and hamsters. If you already have a stuff pack or another expansion pack on your computer it might make the sims really slow. It made my sims game slower and sometimes i have to wait 10 to 15 mins for it load fully into gameplay. Although don't let that put you off buying it becuase my computer is getting old. For me having a couple of sims and 2 or 3 pets makes gameplay a lot harder.I have 2 families on the sims one with pets and one with out. For me the pets need a lot of attention and it can get a bit hectic.... although great fun!
