Ok, since it's looking to be a bit of a tradition with the reviews on this game, let's get the obvious out of the way first- yes there is a big patch when you put the game in for the first time. No it's not the end of the world. I know some people ate saying it took hours to download, but it only took 45 minutes for me. The patch only affects 2 & 3, so if you can't wait to play, just play spyro 1 while you're waiting for the rest to download. Ok? Good. Let's move onto the review. This remake is everything I hoped it would be and more. The second that the Artisan home world loads up and that music begins to play, you are hit by a wave of nostalgia. Everything looks so amazing and fresh, yet so familiar. The developers have done an amazing job making this game. As well as it all looking more colourful than a tin of Quality Street, the empty, open spaces are now crammed with scenery and grass, plants, rocks, you name it. Yet they still look completely faithful to the originals. The remastered soundtrack is amazing- very true to the originals, with only one or two tracks that don't quite hit the mark. The dynamic music is quite immersive- echoing when you're in a cave, quiet and peaceful when hou9sitting still, and full on when you're moving around and attacking. However, if you're yearning for the old sound, there's an option to toggle the soundtrack to the classic ps1 score.Spyro 1 is definitely the one that has benefited the most from the remake- from the updated look, to the fact that now every single dragon you rescue has a unique look and personality. They look amazing, and it got to the point where I was looking forward to freeing the next one just so I could see what he looked like. The added Skill Points to the first game is a welcome addition, providing a little extra challenge to spyro veterans.Spyro 2 is as good as you expect it to be. Nothing really added here, just a fresh coat of paint to an already awesome game.Spyro 3 really shines. The graphics and textures look awesome here, and it plays better than ever. The controls have been vastly improved for the extra playable characters, notably sergeant Byrd and Agent 9, as well as the skateboarding controls. The cutscenes are way more expressive now and adorable- they look like they have been plucked straight from a tv show, and there are moments, like Spyro's fist bump with agent 9, that just really capture the personalities well. The final scene is WAY improved on from the original- I won't spoil it, but it's adorable. Now, there are a few little negatives that just need to be addressed. While the game plays perfectly identical to the originals for the most part, a couple of glides have been made harder due to hit detection, and the charging doesn't fell QUITE as tight as it should- it's unnoticeable for the most part, usually only comes to light when you are chasing certain thieves. I also very occasionally had a glitch in Spyro 3 where some of the NPC'S didn't have the option to talk to them unless I approached them from a certain angle. It didn't happen often, but it's worth mentioning. And just as a little bonus thing to mention, bear in mind that Sparx now has the ability to locate missing gems in all 3 games right off the bat by clicking L3- comes in handy for finding gems that blend in a bit too well with the scenery ;)Overall, this game is a true love letter to all the Spyro fans out there. You can just tell that so much heart and soul has been poured into this remake. I may even go as far to say that this is the definitive way to experience the original trilogy, though of course I will always go back and play the originals. If you are new to Spyro, this is an excellent way to start. If you are a long time fan, this game is a must-have. I look forward to a new Spyro game in the future.

Ive grew up playing Spyro the dragon on the PlayStation. So when the remaster was announced I was over the moon and excited to jump back in to play this game and complete the original trilogy one last time. When you Insert the disc you will have to download/install spyro 2 and 3, since only spyro the dragon is pre-loaded on the disc, now with that being said that isn't a big issue so that wont be taken into consideration when im doing the star overall rating. But for people who hate going online or people who dont have WiFi (yes I know a few people who dont have wifi in there house) then it could be a issue. Now onto the gameplay or more importantly the graphics! Now if your like me and grew up playing the originals, then you would know what the PS1 graphics were capable back in the day and what spyro was like in term of texture and quality. With the remaster they really out did themselves, the menu looks amazing, the game world is astonishing and even the guidebook is majestic. When they made this game they build it from the ground up, meaning that started from fresh and didn't use the original coding from the original trilogies. So each level was designed from scratch, and even the controls got a make over and they feel incredible. Especially with the camera angels being a major improvement, because we all know what they were like back in the day. They even brought the barrel role from spyro 1 into the other games, so now we can use that to our advantage on certain bosses from spyro 2 and 3.Speedways are now more clearer to see, mainly to do with the render distance. So now we can see the whole map rendered and can see further images on screen off in the distance in focuses and clearer to make out.Bonus levels like with hunter and sparks are also improved, although with hunter level they may need to do a slight update because on some levels in the speedways when you go to find hunter to do the bonus game you may find hunter to be slower then spyro, thus makes it hard on one level where you have hunter shooting bugler cats of buildings and spyro has to collect the money bags. Other then that the levels look brilliant.Cutscenes have a bit more dialog and show a lot more then the originals did. This is mainly because the games back then could only have a certain amount of pixel on screen and how much memory was being used on the cutscene, so in the remastered they added more scenes to the cutscenes making them a bit longer, but much more enjoyable. With any game there are faults, and upon playing I didn't find any issues that made the game unplayable, but in some cases I did find some faults with glitches, but only spyro 3 had the most glitches and I mean the most, I might of found 2 or 3 with the first 2 games, but with spyro 3 it felt as if the developers rushed the last portion of the game. So hopefully they fix this in the near future. The other issue I found was with Hunters character design. I Never like his design from Heroes Tail, and that what his design in the remastered game reminds me off, If they could redesign him like the old days then that would be a lot better, but taking inspiration from Heroes Tail is like saying the Legend of spyro hunters design was second choice.Overall this game is amazing, had a lot of fun playing it and reminiscing of the old days, playing this as a kid and beating levels much easier then I remember then, but this might be down to the remaster and the controls that go with it, but overall its a game worth getting and its a game worth pacing down from generation to generation.

Apart from a minigame on a PS1 demo disc, I hadn't played any of the Spyro games before. But I decided to give it a go, and I've been thoroughly impressed. The games have an awesome mix of exploration and collecting, with a fun range of enemies and puzzles. The boses can be tough at times, but the majority of goons can be killed in one hit as long as you use the right attack. There's a nice balance between the amount of collecting you *have* to do in order to finish the story vs the amount you can do if that's your style of game. There's then a selection of skill points and trophies for those that like an added challenge. My biggest complaint is that when you fail a side mission, it gets completely reset. You could have collected 49/50 gears before falling down a hole, and they'll make you have to do it all over again. And to make matters worse, it doesn't save the intro speech so you have to fast tap through that over, and over and over... Thats probably how it was in the original games, but it feels outdated now. I would have preferred the option to Continue, Restart or Exit once you failed, just to speed things up and stop it getting repetitive and tedious for the more challenging levels that take several attempts.Overall the game functioned fine and looked gorgeous compared to screenshots of the originals. I've definitely got my money worth - it's just a shame there won't be new ones. And I've seen many complaints about only one game being on the disc. Once I popped the disc in it automatically downloaded the others and took no longer than a standard patch for a new game. It wasn't locked to a downloads code so the game can be share/resold. I guess there's a slightly concern of what happens in 20 years time when I want to replay it, but maybe it will be remastered again for the PS9?!

Although we waited a long time for this release, and suffered a push-back on the original release date (when ever will developers learn to give themselves time?), this game is exactly as I remember it from my childhood.Completely remastered graphically, but still maintaining its original charm and sense of fun, it’s the perfect game for a ‘completionist’.Bear in mind, it is and always was intended to be a children’s game, so it’s not super challenging. This makes the play time pretty short, at a few hours per game. But that doesn’t take away from the enjoyment, and honestly I’ve had to look a couple of solutions up on YouTube, so quite how I figured it all out in an age without the internet,I’m not sure!Containing all 3 games is a bonus, especially for such a reasonable price. Yes, there’s an additional download to get all the content, but welcome to 2018 where this is the norm. By now we’re quite used to this practice, and I would encourage anyone to upgrade their PS4 hard drive capacity, and then go make a cup of tea while it downloads. No big deal.Trophy hunters will enjoy completing a few silly tasks that come along with the PSN environment, and with 3 games to explore it’s a reasonably straightforward way to gain yourself another 3 platinum trophies for the collection.I give this game 4 stars. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the game itself - it really is a great upgrade of a blast from the past - but there’s nothing really groundbreaking or new here either. Expect to play the three games of your well spent youth, but with an enjoyable modern aesthetic instead of cringing at the visible 90s pixels on your HDTV.

Somehow, Toys For Bob and Activision managed to take the three original classic Spyro games and have turned in much more superior versions of those brilliant games!I have played through Spyro 1 and achieved 120% and now currently in the second workd of Spyro 2. The visuals, gameplay, music, the level of challenge and the amount of content are all top quality (as they were in the originals at the time). All the dialogue in each game is exactly the same as their original counterparts, so as well as being superior games, these are also faithful reproductions of the games we fell in love with in the early 90s - early 2000s (even the cheats that you could use in the PS1 versions have been recycled here, that's how faithful these games are!). Skill points have also been added to Spyro 1, which were originally introduced in the second game.Every single character across all 3 games have been lovingly recreated, with Toys For Bob gifting them with much more enhanced and unique appearances, with a seemingly infinite number of mannerisms, nuances and expressions being added to them as well. The worlds have also had new life breathed into them, to the point where even the darker, much more murky worlds from the originals (Misty Bog in Spyro 1, Hurricos in Spyro 2 to name a few) now feel much more alive and vibrant. The game is an absolute visual treat.Anyone familiar to the series and newcomers need to pick this game up. If you played and enjoyed the Crash remakes last year, I reckon you'll find this an even greater pleasure to play. I would highly recommend to parents looking for the perfect Xmas present for their little ones.

I purchased this for my girlfriend as she completed Spyro games back when they originally came out. She hasn't really been into gaming since so this was my attempt to try and entice her back into it!She loves the games so far although she's still playing the first one in the series. Apparently, it's just like she remembers it but 'better' so I'm guessing the graphics overhaul has worked wonders. Perhaps the controls are a little more complicated than they used to be... I'm not sure if she had analogue sticks back then?I noticed a few reviews are flaming and down voting this game because you only get Spyro 1 on the disc and you need to download the others to play. I don't think this is a particular fair criticism though, not for the developers anyway. They have developed 3 good games here and it's not their fault that they have been distributed in this way. You essentially purchase 3 games here and you are entitled to download all 3 of them. Even the game on the disc is out of date and requires a massive update. The majority of gaming platforms now allow you to download games - I have downloaded hundreds of games on Steam, Origin and Uplay and PSN and never received the media. To be fair I think I'm lucky to even receive a disc these days as I recently received a game box with just a download code inside!Unfortunately, I think the 'pure offline' players with no internet connection need to realise that style of play is being phased out and being replaced with full downloads, games on demand and streaming services. It's certainly not fair to give this game 1 star because it doesn't come on a disc.

When this released in 2018 , many fans were upset that only 1 game on the disc and you had to download the other two.Luckily if you buy the game new nowadays , there's a fair chance you'll get a copy of the game with all 3 games on the Disc !!!At some point in 2019 there was a reissue of the game , with all 3 games on the disc.Unfortunately you probably won't know which version until you open the box , because both versions use the exact same box art.The older retail disc version will have 2018 printed on the disc. The newer one will have 2019 printed on the disc.Regardless of which one you get , both come in the exactly the same box which has 2018 printed on it.Another way to find out if not buying this online,is that the 2019 disc comes with a leaflet advertising Crash Bandicoot Racing inside the box too. So you might hear a piece of paper rattling around if you shake the box gently. Also I have heard the 2019 discs definitely come in the Crash Racing and Spyro Trilogy double bundle pack box , which is quite hard to find right now.I bought the Spyro Trilogy recently directly from Amazon brand new and was in luck and received a newer stock version which had the 2019 disc in it. When I installed the game , all 3 games were installed within half an hour of running the disc (36GB) and I was not prompted for a download of any kind on the PS4 console.Hopefully most of the current stock in most video game retailers contain the 2019 disc version. Avoid the 2018 disc version if you want to void downloading th other two Spyro Games. Good luck if you find one.

Spyro:Reignited. When i first heard about this game i pre-ordered it & i was excited as the ORIGINAL release date was about a week or so before Assassins Creed:Odyssey. Then the date was pushed back to November & FINALLY i got my copy yesterday, i pop it into my PS4 not expecting the NIGHTMARE that was about to happen. Now i have a pretty damn good internet connection but firstly, to even DOWNLOAD the UPDATE, i not only had to *Uninstall* Youtube, but to delete all my Screengrabs from all my games as well as deleting GTA AND Assassins Creed:Black Flag. Once THAT nightmare was dealt with i was in for the biggest shock, the update itself took nearly 12 HOURS to download.****12 HOURS****Take into consideration that i got the Pantheon Edition of Assassins Creed:Odyssey for my Birthday & it took barely TWO hours for the updates to download & for me to put in all my Bonus Content. Now Spyro itself is a pretty simple game, so the fact that the update took THAT long is UTTERLY rediculous-The remastered Crash Bandicoot took about three hours if i remember correctly. Once the update was finished i did manage to re-install Youtube but i sadly can't do much about my screengrabs. The game itself, despite it's simplicity, is a beautiful remaster from the games i grew up playing yet i can not get over that update. The best advice i can give is that, if you're buying this game, get the update started & just leave it, go out, go see friends or family otherwise you'll just be sat waiting & you'll have wasted an entire day waiting for it to update.

I love the original trilogy and once this remaster was announced I followed the development very closely. There were a lot of concerns about the second two games - that they wouldn't be well polished - and this is definitely the case.Be warned: you will need an Internet connection to download the 2nd and 3rd games. Some levels are included on the disc; but only a few.Spyro 1 - plays wonderfully, is graphically unique, and collecting everything feels very satisfying.Spyro 2 - my favourite of the three as a child. Some of the character redesigns seem very off, while some are great. It still plays very well and I personally did not find any issues in this game (though have heard others have struggled with some things)Spyro 3 - is very...OK. There are times where my game was completely broken (Sgt Byrds base broke the graphics entirely and the only way to fix it was to purposefully die. Very irritating) the skateboarding sections feel tuned very badly. This isn't so apparent until you have to race enemies later in the game. Other times things would just disappear and you'd have to restart the entire level to get them to respawn so that you could complete it properly. No word from Toys For Bob, the developer, regarding any patches to fix these glaring issues and until that time I can only warn you that there are some major issues with this release. Despite this, it is otherwise a joy to play and the nostalgia train is running full speed.

Spyro was part of many people's childhood in regards to the days of PS1, and after the success of the Crash Bandicoot trilogy remaster, this would be a no brainer.Firstly, some have rated it 1*, nothing to do with the game, but because the first game is on the disc included, the other 2 you download the data. Considering the first game is 9GB and the other 2 game's are 17GB, this is lazy by Activision yes, being a cheap scape and instead of including a 2nd disc, or wait, a larger capacity disc, they make us download it. It does say this on the front of the case in the corner, but this complaint by some who must have bad internet is silly because most games have downloads this big now for updates before you can even play it.And it's unfair to give a good game and the developers 1* for a fault of the publishers. Now for the game, there's really not a lot to say, it is a very faithful remaster of the classic trilogy, the obvious difference being a complete graphical overhaul, nice vivid colours and 3D models of enemies with smooth animations, better lighting, improved sound effects. Spyro looks how spyro should, not the horrid thing from one of the later games or animations. The controls add the option of analog stick movement which wasn't a thing with PS1 until later games. All in all a nostalgic and fun remaster that's done right, and a unique platformer in an era of COD and Fortnite cookie cutouts.

After the runaway success of the Crash Bandicoot remake, it was inevitable Spyro would get the same treatment. Only, if you ask me, he got a BETTER treatment. Holy moly does this game look GORGEOUS.I picked this up day one as I have fond memories of the first and third games from the PS1 era. I’ve now completed the first title. Each level easily took longer than necessary to complete, for all of the soaking in the glorious Pixar-esque visuals created by Toys For Bob. This is a stunning looking game. Several of the skyboxes are breathtaking, and the ground assets are just as lovely. A highlight of mine has to be first arrival in Dreamweavers - wow.Controls are solid, play faithfully the same as ever. The addition of analogue controls are a definite benefit. I played Retro controls as it felt more natural. A gripe I had with the Reignited controls is how Flame is on the Right Trigger, but Charge is not on the Left Trigger.I have been impressed with the achievement list, which promotes level exploration and completing particular tasks, rather than including run-of-the-mill ‘Complete Level X’, ‘Beat Boss Y’ etc.Next step is to move on to Ripto’s Rage (which will forever be Gateway to Glimmer!)

I loved playing the original three Spyro games on the PS1, so I was delighted to hear about the remaster when it was announced. The gameplay is just as I remembered it: the controls are tight and responsive, with a variety of enemies and locations that keep the games fresh. Being able to control the camera is a welcome addition, helping players track down any elusive gems. The game felt easier than I remember, but there are still challenging segments to keep you on your toes. The minigames that are added to the second and third games inject some fun to break up the standard gameplay formula. The game looks gorgeous, with the cartoonish style faithfully remastered with the unreal engine. The only issue I have is that in a number a specific segments in the game where there's a lot going on, the frame-rate can suffer; not so much to make it unplayable but it is very noticeable and a bit frustrating.Despite the occasional frame-rate issue, I would recommend this to both those who played the originals and those new to the character. I have had a blast playing it.

First of all, I haven’t played the original games, so there is nothing nostalgic about this review. The games are fun to play, look great and have interesting and funny characters in each one of them. However, some things could have been better. First real issue is those annoying flight levels. Bot only the controls are quite bad, you can’t change them, so the dragon handles like an airplane which makes sense from one point of view, but after you face the same in the water - you’ll learn to hate this part of the game. And if these controls don’t bother you, time limit you have on each such level will - sometimes you have less than a second left when you do the last thing on such level even when your flight was flawless. Then there are some bosses which are quite tough to beat and lack of checkpoints makes it not enjoyable part of the game too. One boss was so annoying that I haven’t finished the 2nd game (platinumed the 3rd one though). But overall all 3 games are nice despite the mentioned drawbacks.

The nostalgia is the winning element of this game - they've kept true to the original trilogy and will hopefully appeal to a new generation. It's been fun seeing my friends (all in their mid to late 20s) reliving their childhoods... with better graphics! Excellent little additional touches, such as the scorch marks on the ground when you breath fire. It's also by no means an easy game... some of the challenges are difficult and may take a few tries (hint: I found it easier doing the skateboard tricks using the D-pad rather than the analogue stick) which is good because who wants an easy, walkthrough game, right?! Can't beat the satisfaction of FINALLY winning a cartoon hockey match on ice.The only negative has been echoed by a few, which is the need to download games 2 and 3. Unfortunately, that's a symptom of modern gaming rather than something wrong with this particular game but it's irksome nonetheless.

I have read that Activision heavily pushed Toys For Bob on the release date for Spyro, so I can look at the bigger picture and not leave a negative review based on the fact you have to download the last two games. (can be done whilst playing the first). The cover states content is to be downloaded so I have no issues with this due to having broadband and doing a bit of a research beforehand. It's a shame some reviewers don't have broadband in this day and age and have no choice but to leave a negative review on such a wonderful remaster (based on the remastered Spyro 1 game). Great fluidity in control, the same awesome sound track enhanced, excellent game play and level design. Moneybags I missed you.Crash was beautifully brought back as has Spyro, maybe a Syphon Filter or Jak series return in the future? Anyway for nostalgia purposes alone this game is a must.
