After a long wait Xbox One and Nintendo Switch owners can finally get their fix of Crash Bandicoot where the collection comes with Crash 1, 2 and 3. I remember the original vividly on the PlayStation as many do, and have finally managed to complete it all these years later! Is this collection up to the mark? Or is it of the shoddy variety? The pick of the collection is Crash Bandicoot which is meted towards stricter platforming rather than arcadey zaniness, as the latter two are. The third title probably produces some of the more interesting environments but they are also prone to repetition with subtle enhancements and 3 is also stuffed with more vehicle levels which are notably shorter whichfactored in to my first run through Crash 3 Warped being around 3 hours shorter in total at just over four hours. There aren't a plethora of platformers on Xbox, or good ones anyway, so this helps Crash shine all the more. As with most platformers this is a tough game at times to the point of wanting to throw your controller at the wall but Crash has a difficulty that is at least somewhat dynamic in terms of power ups or health boosts where you may be faltering repeatedly during gameplay. In addition to the levels which is boasting over 100, there are plenty relics and gems to collect for completionists out there. It is of course debatable as to whether many of us will want to put ourselves through this with the immense frustration that the gameplay can cause but it is mostly fair. There's no online play but that's not at all expected and in terms of a story it's not really all that involved but you have to remember that these are old games built on older technology that could not support drawn out cutscenes. Crash 3 has most of a story of the three but there's not much difference between them where story was never really a focal point of the genre.---Summary--- (Scored out of 10)Graphics 10 - It really does look fantastic although a 'Halo option' to switch between new and old graphics would have been nice. I can see the argument that the new graphics take some character or ruggedness out of the game but you can't really fault it for quality.Sound 7 - There isn't really much here and the soundtrack is just okay. It's fine though overall.Gameplay 8 - Typical platforming fare that can be really quite hard in places. It's a decent challenge, that's for sure but it's not Cuphead level of frustration.Lifespan 7 - The three games took me around 20 hours in one playthrough and then there are collectibles to go back and get. It's great value with three games in one essentially and plenty to do.Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy pays a great tribute to a classic. I probably remember it more fondly than when I played through this collection because there are much better platformers out there but I can't really knock this too much either with you getting three games where one is better than the other two, but it's still a worthy title in your collection for the nostalgia like me - or if you're someone who enjoys platformers. As long as you're not expecting anything revolutionary in what is just a straight remaster you will likely not be disappointed.

It’s 1998, it’s Christmas morning, unsurprisingly it’s not snowing. My brother and I dash downstairs at some ungodly hour to find a massive box containing a 14” CRT TV, a smaller one with a Sony PlayStation inside, and an even smaller one revealing a game featuring an orange, wild-eyed animal bursting from the cover. No prizes for guessing what it was. From what I remember, our family didn’t see much of us that day as we smashed boxes and collected Wumpa fruit, having a great time.Fast-forwarding twenty years, I’ve revisited the original Crash trilogy many times, so when a remake was announced I was all about it. Since I’m an Xbox user I had an extra year to wait, but when release rolled round,I’m not ashamed to admit that 27 year old me asked for The N-Sane Trilogy for his birthday. Now, perhaps all those years later, taking the wrapping off a Crash game doesn’t have the same effect as tearing one open when you’re 8, but I was happy none the less.Crash holds a lot of nostalgia for me, so returning to the shores of N. Sanity Beach and beyond in glorious 4K HDR was an absolute pleasure. Crash has fur! The beach has real looking sand! The gameplay remains mostly as it was back on PS1, with (already well documented) adjustments to make the three games consistent. That doesn’t mean that the games are any less frustrating at times, or conversely any less sweet when you finally nail that level with all the boxes smashed and gems in hand. (Update: I’ve played through the first game now, and the gameplay feels familiar, yet new and challenging at the same time due to the tweaks made; that’s by no means a criticism, I’ve enjoyed it all the more for it.)As before, although the games are challenging, the learning curve is not too steep; the latter two games introduce new moves to allow for a greater range of level traversal and, in Warped, power-ups that modify gameplay - meaning that a level doesn’t need to be tackled the same way each run through. The recomposed music is just as good, if not better in places, as the original soundtrack too. The addition of achievements only adds to the replayability and desire to strive for that 100% completion. Being able to play each game as Coco also gives an excuse to run through the game again - frankly any excuse to do so is good enough for me!After years of increasingly lacklustre releases to the Crash franchise, The N-Sane Trilogy has come at the right time to reignite interest in the orange marsupial for nostalgia hungry gamers and win the hearts of new ones. I’ve not yet completed the games, but from what I’ve played I’m satisfied and would most definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to fill a bandicoot sized hole in their modern gaming life. Now the wait is on for the Spyro remake in November, and to continue crossing fingers for a remake of Crash Team Racing and new Bandicoot titles.

As a kid, my first game on the PS1 was Crash Bandicoot. Later on, I then played through the second one, but never the third.I think, as a whole, the games are faithful remasters of the originals, to a degree. The graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay and levels varied, and the sound and music take you back.It would've been a nice nostalgic touch, I think, to have included an option to switch between the remastered versions and the originals on the press of a button but I'm not too bothered by the exclusion.Difficulty wise, I think it's hit and miss depending on the level. At the start, understandably so, the games are quite easy - you'll probably fly through the levels in no time if you've played them before (or similar platformer games).Later on, the levels do get harder, something not helped, I've found, by Crash's jumping (you can play as Coco as well - his younger sister - though I've mostly been playing as Crash).Maybe the years have clouded my memory a bit of the originals (I'm nearly 27), and I don't game as much as I used to, but I don't remember dying so much from jumping off the ledges (as others have experienced). There are jumps that I should (or believe I should) be making but time and time again I fail, sometimes resulting in death.I admit I don't have the same amount of time (or possibly patience!) to game nowadays as much as I did in the past, and I like a challenge as much as the next person, but still these jumps go from being a nuisance to downright frustrating. I'm hoping, if possible, it'll be addressed in a patch or update.Another niggle I have, though it maybe sounds like picking holes, is the start up of the game. At first, the animation of Crash turning from his PS1-era look into his 2017 form was cool to see, a nice throwback, but after a while it gets annoying, as does the announcer's voice on startup and every time you switch between the games in the main menu (I get it, it's "Crash Bandicoot 2!!"). From what I can tell, there's no way to skip these.Unfortunately (perhaps?), from what I can gather, there's no way to input passcodes/passwords in Crash 1 like the original; to unlock all levels on all islands, for example (if memory serves me right!).Overall, I think the package is great value for money; you're getting three classics in one. It's not quite perfect, I definitely think there are issues that need addressed, but hopefully those will be.If you played the originals as a child (or not a child!) twenty years ago, it's a nice trip down memory lane.

I’ve been looking forward to this game being released for some time, and I really hoped Vicarious and Sony wouldn’t let me down. Crash Bandicoot played a large part of my gaming history and was the only other platformer that entertained me in the same way as Sonic and Mario did on the Sega and Nintendo platforms (with the possible exception of the riotous Conkers Bad Fur Day). Games have moved on a lot since the nutty marsupial was last around and traditional platform games aren’t exactly popular these days. Open world RPG seems to be more the thing. I’m very fond of retro games dating back to my early Spectrum days in the 80’s, but few of them are ever as good as you remember. How would Crash fare?I’m so pleased to report that N.Sane Trilogy has done Crash and his fans proud. From the moment you begin to play all of the happy memories come flooding back, and it’s amazing how much you remember from all those years ago. The graphics have been significantly improved upon from the originals, and the control system smoothed out a little, but generally speaking these are exactly the same games as they were before. If you were a Crash Bandicoot fan back then, nothing will have changed. Likewise, if you didn’t like the games the first time around then there’s little to change your mind now. New players will find many quality gaming hours here, getting sucked into the world of retrying levels over and over until you’ve collected all of the boxes or nailed the time trials. I will add that one thing I’d forgotten was how hard Crash Bandicoot is, especially the first game. That’s not a negative, just a warning that some of the levels will have you yelling obscenities at the screen as you repeatedly fail to land the crucial final jump. Also, the load times seem to be almost as long as they were in the PS1 days. Do they really need to be that long? So, is a 20 year old game worth paying for again? Absolutely. We’ve all come a long way since then but Crash is every bit as enjoyable as he once was. There have been several remastered games on the PS4 (GTA5, Last of Us, Grim Fandango, Wipeout to name a few) and most of them have been done with respect, love and affection by the developers and remain some of the best games on the Playstation. While I would have loved for Crash Team Racing to have also been included I hope that the success of this release will give the developers the confidence to bring a whole new Crash Bandicoot game our way some time soon.

(Bought from Tesco as amazon had it listed at £49.99-£52 and tesco had it under £28 at the time of buying)I think crash 1 was the first game I bought for my playstation (well begged my mum to buy it really as i was only 7)I still have all the crash games on discs, (and a ps2 to play them).. so to compare i played though the orginals, then played some of this (on 3rd island on crash 1 so far, not tried the other two yet as want to play in order)crash 1, some things are easier. .i LOVE how you can now save any time you want! one thing I HATED on the original crash 1, is you have to survive the bonus level or get a gem to be able to even save the game, meaning a game over lands you 3-5 levels back!however, the jumping is broken, you die far more on the new ones as it jumps NO WHERE NEAR as far as it did on the orginal. its like they used the crash 3 style and they are not suitable for the first 2 games. you have to run then jump to be able to get as far, and .. well as you know .. the high road (im yet to get to it but already heard complaints).. requires you to jump from the spot, so you can NEVER get across without having to try and run and jump...aka fall off the edge.AND YES it is defo hard for the jumps, some people say "maybe just out of practice" but i can confirm after playing the ps1 version just 1 day before I got this.. its a big difference.. jumping is far less and more hard to be able to reach over the hole. they defo use the crash 3 jumping style where there was more use of the skid jump, but you cant do that on crash 1 so the jumps mostly undershoot unless you can get a running start. (it makes it more realistic that way, but the level designs do not suit so that needs to change back or the levels slightly altered so the jumps can actually be made)but i do like its easier to get ever box in a row as 1 tap on the directional pad is same as 1 box length. downside is i got used original controls i keep overshooting them now.. but then due to the jumping issue, i undershoot 80% of actual holes/jumps.they need to patch it to be like it was for the first 2 games, seeing how many people are complaining

Now this is how you do a remaster! This collection is absolutely incredible! As someone who grew up with Crash Bandicoot on the PS1, the smile this bought to my face during load-up was enormous! The sheer joy from replaying those childhood memories is amazing, especially given how good this remaster is! Some of my main points are as follows:- The graphics are stunning, the characters are excellently animated and the environments are gorgeous. The colours just pop, and it's nice to see how much attention to detail has been paid to the original level design. I haven't played the original in over a decade but I instantly remembered the levels when replaying them!- The controls are superb, they are highly sensitive and make platforming a challenge, but they're also rewarding. Anyone who complains about the controls is clearly lacking an ability to handle their precision. They are quite unforgiving, but that's the point! A platforming game is supposed to have tricky platforming.- Great replay value! The crystals and gems will take a few play-throughs, but there's now also time trials in all three games. This was originally only in Crash 3, so it's quite cool that they retrospectively added these to the first two games. Of course, there are also three platinum trophies to collect.- The soundtrack has been masterfully remastered! As with the level design, I instantly recalled the catchy music, especially in levels like "Road to Nowhere" and "Native Fortress". It sounds very similar to the originals but a bit more upbeat and modernised. They truly did a great job on staying true to the originals, but with a new twist.Seriously, you simply cannot ask for more when it comes to this collection! Finally, after years of ruining Crash Bandicoot, Activision has finally given us fans what we've wanted for so long, and they nailed! Everyone needs to buy this game!If it sells well enough, hopefully we will see a remaster of Crash Team Racing, and who knows... maybe Spyro the Dragon! Buy this great collection and prepare for hours of fun!

There was a time when 'Crash' was to Sony what Mario is to Nintendo - a character so closely linked that it would be hard to imagine the games on any other system. While he appeared on Xbox as early as the turn of Millennium, it's hard to overlook how significant a release this is for Switch. But I'll be blunt; the nostalgia factor is a considerable selling point of this title. If you were around during the early days on the Playstation and got your hands on the original game, then everything will be familiar. Memories will be brought back, from the chirpy music to the smaller details even in the user interface. It is what it is: a HD remaster. The gameplay is near identical to what you played during the 90s,which is where things get a little more polarising. As mentioned, those who were around for the original games will unlikely be too disheartened by flaws in level designs, the slightly clunky control scheme or the quirky choices of secret content that, often, have no relation to the story or level. The Playstation was, originally, not home to many good platformers, so Crash understandably stood out as something quirky and better quality. But times have changed (durr), and so for newcomers or younger players, I would advise trepidation and consider that the product is of its time, regardless of how well dressed up its. As much as I loved playing the original game back in the mid-Nineties, my excitement this time round was somewhat dampened by the standards of modern gameplay. I mean, just look at DKC: Tropical Freeze...Visually however, the game looks exceptional for this hardware. Barring a bit of aggressive anti-aliasing, it couldn't be a better HD remake and really isn't much of a downgrade from what the PS4/XB1 offer. It's only an upscaled-720p image when docked, but the motion blur and lighting effects are truly what you would expect from current generation games. Is it worth your time? Keep your expectations intact and you can really have a blast with all three games.

I'm a veteran Crash player. I've completed all the games bar one which I just stopped playing because it was badly done. (In all crash games if you get a gem and die you get to keep that gem but it doesn't it takes them away)I've been playing this for over a month now. I got it when it came out at a very reasonable prime discounted £25.>This is a very impressive job.The positives are:They haven't messed with it. The old frustrations and feeling of eupthoria when you over come a difficult level are all present and correct. The graphics (save for level 1 of Crash one, which seems like someone turned down the saturation and looks washed out),are awesome! They look beautiful.I pulled out the original Crash 3 Warped the other day to compare. Although I remember them lookingmuch closer to the HD remasters ! ! The changes are impressive. They left almost everything* that was great about Crash and they updated the rest. Updated in a caring loving way that is, texturesand models used in this are amazing. There's a couple of new negatives:The crispness of the objects rendered in the engine causes some confusion as to where objects are. Mainly due to shadows and lighting. This can be mind blowingly frustrating when trying to make a series of jumps in a time trial where 1 second could be you get the relic and you don't.Evenafter playing the level 100 times you can still miss the jump. The edges of ledges platforms and such seem to be coated in oil. You can slip off really easily. In the original game as I remember* you couldjump, land on a platform by the skin of your teeth and just stay there. This is not so, anywhere near the edge your brown bread. These things have ramped up the difficulty slightly.I am very happy. I hope they do 'Crash Team Racing' and others now! I'd buy them all if they did them!Well worth your money afterall where do you get 3 games for the price of 1?

Overall the remaster looks amazing. Mirrors the original regarding the gameplay and with the new additions of auto game saving across the games and time trails in 1 and 2, these make the game more reliable and fun to play. The graphics are obviously a massive step up. It's nice to see a game where levels have different textures and Crash is very detailed. 3 games for under £30 is an absolute buy! Was expecting this to be more expensive due to the high demand the game would get from fans who've grown up playing Crash Bandicoot! There are however a couple of issues in regards to the gameplay itself. When controlling Crash, the controls feel sluggish at times, for example, when jumping,I always feel I need to jump at the last second as Crash doesn't make it over gaps/holes. Most of the time I have to slide and jump over gaps because he always falls down them. I just feel like the controls are a little 'weighty' at times which makes jumping on boxes a very frustrating experience especially if you need to jump on them to cross a gap in order to progress. I've only played Crash 1 and 2 of the trilogy so far but from what I've experienced from playing (Hog Wild - Crash 1) and (Bear Down - Crash 2) there seems to be a massive delay when moving Crash from left to right, the controls feel stiff and sluggish. I don't know whether this is something that's going to be fixed I assume not, but I do feel people who are new to Crash and are first time buyers are going to struggle with the grips of the game. 1996-1998 controls were much better but the N-Sane Triolgy looks aesthetically pleasing! Overall a decent game with a couple of control issues.

If you're at all a fan of platform games then the N. Sane Trilogy is a must-buy whether you're familiar with the Crash series or not. Although the Crash games are 3D, their tight gameplay and mostly-linear level design makes them feel and play much more like a successor to great 2d platformers like Super Mario World or the Donkey Kong Country series than with other 3d platformers like Jak and Daxter or Ratchet and Clank, which had a more open-world feel that encouraged exploration over precise platforming. Which is not a bad thing! The Crash N Sane trilogy instead feels like a wonderful throwback to those games and the genre. And although each individual game isn't super-long (you can finish them in about 3-6 hours each),the fact that you get all 3 originals remastered for less than full-price for a PS4 makes it really worth your money. If you want to try and actually 100% all the games by collecting all the secret gems and crystals, then you can expect to spend around 30-40 hours on this. They'd be enjoyable hours because the N. Sane Trilogy is a fun and arcadey platformer that's just a blast to get through. QUICK NOTE though: the games decrease in difficulty. Crash 1 is by far the toughest, and can really get brutally hard at times, whereas Crash 3 is a bit of a breeze and Crash 2 (my personal favourite) has just the right amount of challenge. So if you buy this and get stuck and frustrated on the first game (which is also the weakest one despite still being fun) then it might be worth working your way backwards starting from Crash 3.

There is much to like about this game - the graphics look very sharp, the attention to detail in the level environments is very good, and fundamentally it is just as enjoyable as the original games were when I played them all those years ago. There are, however, a few minor faults in the gameplay that make it occasionally frustrating. The jumping, as others have mentioned, isn't quite as a responsive as it should be and he doesn't jump as far as he used to. The double jump in the third game can be quite troublesome, and they have tampered with the crouch high jump in the second and third games (you used to be able to crouch with O, then let go and press X immediately to high jump. Now you have to hold down O while you press X, which can be awkward and difficult to execute at speed). There are also some issues with hit detection, and I've found that in the riding levels, especially on the polar bear and the jet ski, the controls vary from being over-sensitive to unresponsive. These are quite minor grievances in the grand scheme of the game though, and certainly haven't prevented me from completing and enjoying it.Overall I would say it was well worth the pre-order price of £25.99 (with the Prime discount), although I don't think I would pay its current price of £49 for it. Definitely wait for it to come down before you buy! So 4 or 4.5 stars, because it isn't perfect, but still very good.

I would not call myself a Crash Bandicoot superfan, but I have very fond memories of playing Crash 2 on my PS1 as a kid so purchased this purely for the nostalgia trip. I was not disappointed. The best compliment I can give Activision is that the game looks, sounds and plays exactly as I remember it. The platforming is still engaging, the levels are still vibrant and challenging and the music is as annoyingly catchy as it ever was. There are a few issues with the jumping mechanics in Crash 1 owing to the fact that they have used Crash 3's jump physics across all three games - this might not sound a huge issue on the face of it but you will come across a handful of infuriating moments were your jump must be 100% inch perfect, allowing for lots of game over screens and much swearing.Excluding this minor oversight, the games are flawless and I would recommend this to anyone who played the originals. In terms of players who are new to the character of Crash Bandicoot, im not sure how well this will be received. The game itself is very linear with a simplistic control scheme far more similar to an indie game than a AAA title. The price for the game keeps going up and down due to demand - at its highest I saw it on Amazon for £52.99 - but if you can pick it up for around £30.00 (I paid £27.99) I would recommend it all day long.

First off I am not an active or big gamer. I am a 27 year old who occasionally plays FIFA and Battlefront 1 (albeit badly) and I recently enjoyed Fallout 4. BUT!!!What. Can. I. Say!!!!This is everything I wanted and more from crash bandicoot! I am not sure whether I was better at it 20 years or whether Sony/Activison have made it harder...either way the developers have absolutely smashed it. The gameplay is just like before just with the added elements of frustration and despair having been killed by a turtle or falling to your death having stepped on the wrong plank of wood. You go from feelings of wonder and hope when you regularly think how on earth you will ever conquer a level to literallypunching the air with satisfaction and achievement when you finally complete a stage or even get to the next checkpoint.Highly addictive with HOURS of fun and carnage with the denim wearing, crate smashing, apple loving bandicoot - call me old fashioned but I have literally no interest in playing as Coco...as much of a nice idea as it is.If you loved the originals (1,2 and 3) and if you feel like having a nostalgia trip this is for you.Thank you so much Sony and Activison for bringing my childhood back to me. Could this be the start of bringing the old favourites back? (*cough* Crash Team Racing?! *cough*)

Crash is back! This is a collection of the original three Crash Bandicoot games released by Naughty Dog in the 90s, completely remastered from the ground up. The original games were already some of the best PlayStation games ever to grace that system, so a remaster was an excellent idea. Not only to reboot the franchise, but also let a new generation play the games. The Trilogy does not disappoint. Every game looks and plays like the original PS1 version, but have been upgraded with some amazing modern graphics. Some of the levels look gorgeous, yet they still maintain the original look and art style. Jungles look colourful and vibrant, ruins look dark and gloomy and the factories have a sci-fi edge to them. The games are also a joy to play as well like I said before, they play just like the original games, even down to the little exploits you could pull off in both Crash 2 and 3. The difficulty may throw you off a bit, especially in Crash 1. The games involve a lot of platforming, the level's layout as well as the enemies placements and what each one does. Trial and error is required to get good at this game. It can be frustrating, but it's totally doable. In short. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy is the most faithful remaster in Video Game history. it's an essential game for the PS4.

Such a well made re-master, you can really tell the dev's put allot of care into keeping this game playing just the way it did in the original versions, whilst making the graphics look really good and enjoyable to play!If you have played and loved the old crash games then you won't be disappointed with the re-master, it plays the same and is a great way to re-visit the old games on more modern graphics. The game is however, different to allot of big triple A games released now, its quite a simple game, no multiplayer and therefore may be, less exciting for someone who never played the originals. Id still suggest trying it out, as its still a really fun game to play, and does require some skill, thought and perseverance to get through many of the tougher levels, giving you many hours of gameplay. The game also offers a replay value as theres other goals such as getting all the boxes in a level without dying, therefore its a game you'll be able to come back to after you've completed all the levels, which makes it even more worthwhile investing in.Overall a really fun game to play, lovingly re-made for the PS4 and a great way to experiance the classic game's in with some really nice updated graphics! For £28 (Price may have gone up slightly), you can't go wrong,
