Splatoon 2 is the sequel to the surprise hit from 2015 on the Wii U. The game is simple in its premise but complex in its strategy. You are a squid like creature that can change between kid that can use weapons, to a squid that can swim fast along the ground and up walls. However, while the game is amazingly fun and addictive to play it is undeniably a disappointment in many areas and feels more like a 1.5 version then a complete new entry in the series.First off the game is severely lacking anything new of any real value. All the game modes from the first are back along with most of the levels and weapons. However it still uses that annoying timed system where only two levels are playable at a time.I’m not sure how often they rotate (I think it’s daily but I’m not sure) but I found myself playing the same two maps for around an hour and soon become frustratingly board of playing them over and over again. There is a new game mode called Salmon Run but so far, I’ve yet to play it as for some reason it can only be played during certain times and I never seem to be around during those times. It does boast some customizing with the ability to purchase new clothing which have game changing effects like speed boost and toughness to name just a couple. You can also select the hair style, skin and eye colour but apart from that, not much else. However, that being said it is an improvement on the first game so it should be credited for that. But enough about what the game doesn’t have and more about wat it does. The game is split into two styles, single player and multiplayer. The single player continues the story from the first game and is pretty much the same thing. You start at the beginning of the level and must make your way through it until you reach the end. A little bit like Mario 3D land / World. While it is better than the first games campaign, I was still disappointed by it. It feels like more of the same with a few new things thrown in for good measure. I personally would like to have seen a real campaign adventure like the upcoming Mario Odyssey or even a Zelda style game. I know many will disagree but you have to admit, the single player does feel quite dull at times. It does have some replay value to it though as there are collectables in each level and you can replay any level with any new weapons you pick up later on. So as I say, the single player isn’t bad just safe. It doesn’t try anything major nor does it stray from the first games shadow. However, this game is really all about multiplayer and it doesn’t disappoint there! If you’ve played the first game then you already know what it’s all about but for newbies I tell you how it works. You are split into two teams of four and are armed with weapons that shoot ink. The team that covers the most ground with their teams colour wins! You gain no points for killing the other team (although many players don’t seem to take notice of that!) and while it might sound a little dull it really is great fun and very addictive. There are a couple of other modes such as king of the hill style game but they are only available once you reach a certain level. One thing I did miss was the minigame from the first game while waiting in the lobby. Not sure why it was taken out but still a shame to see it missing.Overall though the game is undeniably fun despite its shortcomings. While I do feel this game may have been rushed to fill up the Switches library, it is still a worthy purchase. A disappointing sequel but still a fun and addictive game. Also, the inklings are super cute!Gameplay (17/20)Graphics (16/20)Sound (18/20)Replay Value (17/20)Value for Money (16/20)Total (84/100)

Cracking game!!!!! I've had Splatoon 2 since last year and invested over 100hours of play time and I must say the game is absolutely amazing it's super fun and competitive, you can go from winning to losing in a matter of seconds.Fashion takes a big part in the game as you can see from the screenshots each piece of clothing offers different skills and abilities to help you perform better. And damn some of these squids look amazing!!!You have a wide range of weapons to choose from each offering a unique gameplay style for instance if you want to use an ink brush you'll swing a giant paintbrush around flinging ink all over the place or if you prefer to be more stealthy and be able to dodge thenthe splat dualies are for you!The aim of the game depends on which game mode you do if all you want to do is casual turf war then the aim is to cover the map in as much of your team's ink as possible sounds simple right? WRONG! Oh boy it's so much harder than you think one minute your entire team could have the map covered with ink and then 10 seconds later the enemy could make some crazy come back and cover the entire map in their ink and beat you within the last 10 seconds of the map leaving you dumbfounded and feeling guttered but oh man is it a great feeling losing then pulling it back for a win!!There is also a ranked mode where the type of match changes every 1-2 hours one game mode is clam blitz you collect 10 small clams which then form a big rugby ball that you have to throw at your opponents net (which looks like a basket ball net) then when you burst the net your team throws their smaller/ big clam into the net to score points and take home the victory!!There is also tower control which is where there's 1 tower in the middle of the map and you have to take control of it and reach the checkpoints the first team to take the tower to the enemies last check point wins. When you load the game up a little news briefing will play telling you what the current maps are for turf war( casual mode) ranked matches maps and game mode and league mode maps and game modeLeague matches are a bit like ranked apart from in ranked you team up with your friends to play against other people who are part of a team with friends these tend to have some form of communication with each other which makes it slightly more challenging than ranked and during league mode you get ranked on your wins and losses which resets every 2 hours and depending on how well you did depends on what rewards you get but you need to be ranked B in normal ranked mode before you can enter league matchesThere is also a story mode which is more designed around getting you used to the game and teaching you the basics before going into online matches but If you don't want to you don't have to do story mode. There is also a salmon run mode which you can play with your friends if you are all on the same local network and in the same room as each other which involves wave after wave of enemies coming at you and your job is to beat them and the bosses and collect the golden eggs

I had no intention whatsoever of buying Splatoon 2, that was until the Global Splatfest. Players had the opportunity to understand how the game operates, and take part in choosing one of two options that would decide which team you would fight for. With the instruction to ink as much as possible, the game is relatively simple, but in terms of gameplay, possesses a certain charm. The game does not focus on targeting the other team's players, but instead bases victory on who paints most; you can choose what weapon strategically seems to work in your favour. With a range of weapons to choose from, such as paint rollers, brushes and sprayers, including subweapons and special attacks, there's an opportunity to explore what suits best for you.Other game modes include Ranked, which changes the game mode every two hours. Rainmaker (objective: grab and use the Rainmaker weapon from the centre of the stage, and bring it to your opponents side), Tower Battles (objective: jump aboard the tower in the centre of the stage, and have it arrive at the opponents side) and Splatzones (objective: cover the various highlighted zones with paint) present various challenges whilst facing your opponents. Another mode that occurs several times throughout a typical week includes Salmon Run, in which you are teamed up with three other players to defeat enemies and return eggs to an egg basket. This leads me onto the aspect of multiplayer. There is no split-screen multiplayer option, so you will not be able to play with a friend of family member using your single Switch. The multiplayer option provided is that you must be friends with someone who owns a Switch, however even still, you may be placed in opposite teams when your intention was to play together. And if you are placed within the same team, you will not have an easy method of communication. Instead, you will need to download an app, or use an alternative method.Having said that, a steady flow of updates do occur, with new weapons and stages introduced. Such attention to the game ensures the game does not become stale. The benefits of the game far outweigh the drawbacks, though the drawbacks could certainly be amended in future. Splatoon 2 is largely enjoyable, with a variety of weapons, game modes and updates that help to keep the game fresh.

I dismissed Splatoon 2 out-of-hand initially. I'm not overly interested in first or third person shooter games, and certainly stay away from online matches in those types of games if I ever do pick one up (I much prefer a keyboard & mouse combo for that type of game). After reading and watching a few reviews though I decided to give it a go.Man I'm impressed.I like the fact it's not a 'traditional' shooter where the aim is to rack up kills. Rather the overall goal is to colour the map with yoru team's ink, using a variety of different weapons. It gives me the option to go off and 'ink' parts of the map if I'm outmatched at combat, rather than becoming frustrated cannon fodder for some 12 year old with nothing but time on their hands.I've only just scratched the surface having got the game a few days back. I've played a bit of the single player mode (which is somewhat light and seems to be focused on introducing mechanics, weapons and gearing you up) and decided to jump straight into the online stuff which I'm finding fun. The basic online matches are pretty short and sweet (3 mins) and you're grouped with a random set of people with varying levels in the game. Weapon & gear choices as well as the map you're playing on seem to have a huge impact on how well you're doing (maps change on a schedule, 2 selected for each 2 hour slot, the map you get is randomly selected from those). All in all it's shaping up to be a varied and exciting game that I've found myself dipping into for a few matches when I've got 10-15 mins to spare. That said, I'm only just scratching the surface of the game, there are various play modes I've not even attempted or seen yet.

I love this game - kept seeing it on the Wii U but didn't try it until we got the SwitchThe biggest negative is you cannot play 2 player - that would have been fun - but unlike Mario kart when when you play online you can only play a single player. It would have been fun to be able to battle against someone in multiplayer mode - the only way to do that is purchase another Switch and play either wirelessly or online in a battle I Guess. Not spending £300 to by another Game for that! After weeks I seem to be splatted no matter what I do, really recommend the Offline Octo Canyon as you get the hang of the controls, and even Grizzco to get used to working in a team - i'm still a bit rubbish but finally getting better weapons so standing half a chance. It really is addictive and so many times realised its 1am and need to get up for work!Yes I'm an adult and its still great fun. In fact its nice not being graphic shooter games - its paintball on sterioids really. (no blood or guts) maybe more games need to be a little less graphic for kids !So easy to lose hours on this. Especially when you keep getting splatted you just can't log off withuot a win or 10!The game is about the size of an SD card - you can't use it on other consoles (wii etc) so had we bought this on the Wii U would have been most annoyed to have to buy it again on the Switch and at £40 quid or so for a game a bit steep - we purchased a used copy - better value and works okseems wrong that you have to keep buying games if you change your console - But guess that's how Corporations make their money. And really is 40+ Quid a competative price ? that's why I deducted a Star.

This is a perfect update to the original game. Vastly improved graphics, new soundtrack, new stages, new gear and items, more customisation options and a better single player mode. Yet underpinning all of this is much of the same gameplay - which is certainly not a bad thing, considering how well Nintendo got it right first time round. The big draw of Splatoon is that it takes what's good about 'shooters' and puts it into a less violent set up. Strategy is key here, and the sense of achievement you get from essentially spraying ink everywhere is wonderful. You do not gain points for 'splats' (dissolving other players).Online is still the main focus of gameplay, where you can choose between Turf Wars (inking more turf then the opposing team) and Ranked Battles (unique rules and features). Salmon Run, which is a more scarce tournament, offers something a little different in that every player is essentially up against the CPU as a team, but this is far more challenging. As with other Switch games, it's not until you play the game in handheld mode that you can truly appreciate the potential of playing the Splatoon on the go. It looks gorgeous, and the gyro controls work flawlessly. Just watch the battery, however...Original Splatoon owners may find this entry to be more expected than surprising, however if you're new to the franchise, then I can only imagine the sense of excitement that will come from it.

I loved the first Splatoon game and this tweaks and builds on that to make a great game. It's not a completely new experience as much as the original, but that's to be expected. The single player is fleshed out which is great for at work where he wi-fi isn't strong enough for online! The multiplayer is more of the same but with refinements to make the matches seem fairer and allow different weapon types each to have their place. Salmon run is a great addition to mix things up from the main multiplayer. The weapon typing is random so again allows you to experiment with weapons you might not normally use. Also in a team work setting using something like a charger, which I normally don't get on with,is actually ok to do without the threat of other player coming for you!Lastly the motion controls seem vastly improved. Playing on the wii u I never used them finding it difficult and clunky. I don't know weather it's a hardware or software change, but weather it's with the pro controller or in handheld mode the motion controls are really responsive. I haven't fully mastered them yet but it was a usable control method within a few matches. Essentially this is a great game that's highly addictive and you'll spend hours splitting turfing, hunting salmon and collecting weird clothes. Must buy for any switch owner.

I never played the original Splatoon, but thought I'd try this out due to it looking fun on gameplay videos. I've completed the single player campaign which was full of quirky bosses and really helped me get into the controls and weapons. Salmon Run is an online mode which pits you against hordes of enemies and bosses which need to be defeated in certain ways. This is a really fun and intense mode and probably one of my favourites! The multiplayer is also fun, and despite the lack of maps you can play on during a game, I haven't found it boring. I love the choice of weapons and styles so you can play in your own way and customise your Inkling character.Nintendo are showing great support for the game and are introducing new weapons, maps and other events frequently, keeping the game interesting. You will buy this game for the art style, characters and gameplay, not for the story as it's not much to write about, although you can tell the developers thought through the stages to help new players.Overall I am really happy with this game! It is definitely one of my new favourites because of the really unique gameplay and I would recommend you try it out even if you think it's not your usual game. My only criticism would be the ability to change weapons/gear whilst waiting in the lobby :)

Arrived very timely. The game is super fun and addictive, and gives a different spin on the fps genre. It also has quite a family-friendly atmosphere and the community is, in general, very nice, though the "posting" feature in game, where you see other users drawings has a mix of questionable and enjoyable things. The coop mode is one of the best things about the game, and it is great working with teammates to defeat the mostly well-designed bosses. My biggest gripes about this game are: the multiplayer has no lobby for playing games with your friends. In a multiplayer game like this, I fail to see how they could leave out such an essential component, it really is awful. You can play with your friends, but it is difficult and you are often left waiting for someone to finish, and often get put on opposite teams. My second complaint is that there is means of communication. This is really a fault of the switch, but in a competitive fps you really need to talk to your team. Lastly, the weapons are not particularly well-balanced in multiplayer, so you only see a few of them. Overall, these issues slightly detract from the blindingly fun gameplay. I would give the game a rating of 3.7 stars, but feel it deserves 4 since I cannot give fractions.

In my opinion, this game is brilliant. It's a very unique concept and the graphics are incredible. Some people seem to complain in other reviews that it's barely different from the Wii U version which you may want to keep in mind when buying this if you already have a Wii U, although if you're like me and don't own a Wii U, this is an absolutely brilliant game to get for the switch. The single player offline modes are challenging for first time players, and if you are up for more of a challenge, the multiplayer modes are very fun as you try to make your way up the rankings by winning matches. An important thing to point out is that you are unable to play this game with more than one person on one console. You are able to play with people in the same room via LAN connection, but both people will need to have their own console and copy of the game.Considering the switch is supposed to be a family console, good for multiplayer games, I'm surprised that a split screen local play mode isn't available.Still, I justify a five star rating based on the amazing quality of this game and it's extremely entertaining gameplay that keeps you playing for hours!

Splatooooooooon twooooooooo. Just what we was waiting for. It don't get much better than this. Have not stopped playing it since the lunch date. Absolutely Brilliant. Looks like spikes got a promotion in a office with his laptop with a little facety street hood rat yout working for him now called Murch. Facety Murch makes me laugh with his chat. Similar challenges in 1 player mode which force you to use other weapons that are not in your comfort zone, Very good strategy. Many new editions like the Salmon Run mode where you get a job and work for food tokens and money. I can imagine why there's no local 2 player mode or TV split screen. I wouldn't want the second player seeing where I am going to launch an attack on them or view my secret hide outs.I like the music that surrounds this game aswell. I was skeptical at first with this being on the switch but its a hit for me. I must admit Splatoon 2 would be better on the (wii u) due to the dual screens on the TV and game pad and also for local 2 player mode. Cant fault the developers for that tho as they are only working with what they have got available. Buy it and get splatting, great game.

Splatoon 2 is a great instalment in this fairly new series, while it from an outside look it is very similar to Splatoon 1 (which to be fair it is) it has a few new features that are fun to play with. I have, in total, logged around 50 hours on this game although as I played the first one I have spent very little time in the main campaign. The single player mode is actually really fun, and it was a great time getting through it, the final boss was actually quite hard and took more than several attempts to defeat, the only slightly irritating thing is that there was little to no reward for completing the campaign other than that you know you have completed it. While I have not played the Octo expansion,I am sure it is as equally fun and exciting.Salmon run is a really fun part of the game, once I had discovered it! It is just a shame that it isn’t on all the time, besides this, it is probably my favourite mode to play on and keeps me coming back for more. The Splatoon development team, could’ve added more development by way of variation in the main campaign from the first one but overall it is a very good and fun game.

I really enjoyed my time with splatoon 2 and will keep on enjoying my time with it.Like many people I have limited time to myself working and studying at the same time I don’t seem to have a lot of free time to do whatever I want. But splatoon really captured me. I don’t really play shooters or multiplayer games at all really. I really enjoy the controls and the whole concept of the game. What can be frustrating is that I’m still not that good at the game so I can find myself on some long losing streaks which can be infuriating, while some might say it’s my fault for not being good, it still impacts my enjoyment when you try your best and it’s just loss after loss. While you still get rewards for how you play which help when you don’t win a match for 5/6 rounds that’s when it can get frustrating. But having said all that I still really enjoyed this game. Salmon run is great with friends but I wish I could do it anytime I wanted to rather than set times, and while the single player part is basic I still enjoyed it.

I'm one of the most biggest Splatoon fans in the world, so I hope my review how dosn't have any bias:I played the Wii U edition for over 1600 hours, so overall, my play time does actually prove how fun Splatoon is.Splatoon 2 review:I got the game on its launch; July 21 and have played it everyday since. The game is a massive improvement from the Wii U edtion; no lag, better graphics, no FPS drop in Online matches. The Jetpack is awesome, I managed to secure 28 splats in one game!Splatoon 2 has better music, in everyway it is definitely an improvement from the Wii U edition.Salmon Runs are really fun as well. (Salmon run is an Online mode available every weekend.)The special weapons work like a dream, the Sting Ray and JetPack are so cool.I actually flew over 3 squids with my jetpack and splatted 2!Overall; Splatoon is in my opinion the best game ever made.Splatoon 2 is even more fun than the Wii U edtion and this is from a loyal fan who's played over 1600 hours of the first.
