We pre ordered CTR back in December, we've been hardly able to sit still waiting for it! Both myself and my husband played CTR when it originally came out so hearing this was going to be remastered was more than a little exciting! Especially after being so impressed with the crash bandicoot trilogy remaster previously. Even our neighbours have been excited for us to get it so we can all play together both on the couch and online. That magic of having your friends round and all playing in the same room has been lost these last few years with online gaming, but CTR really brought it back for me. We need more games like this!Graphics are fantastic, the colours really pop and the detail is brilliant. We have a PS4 pro and a 4k TV, we've really noticed a difference in quality compared to playing the crash remaster last year on the basic PS4. I hear lots of hard core gamers are complaining about the amount of loading screens, honestly for me this was expected given it's not really a story game (there is one but honestly who here is buying CTR for the story lol) and you hop from race to race a lot meaning lots of loading tracks and leaderboards. Personally I think it loads quite fast and you have the option to turn off cut scenes and press triangle to skip.Adventure mode on easy has been a little too easy I'll be honest, I've done nearly everything and lots of the relics/ctr tokens and we've not had the game a week yet. For me that's fast. But that hasn't taken away any love for the game, I've been able to familiarise myself with the controls, tracks and bosses. And now I feel more confident to kick the difficulty level up a notch!I like the addition of earning coins for every race you do, these coins are the in game currency that you can then spend in the pit stop on all elements of the kart plus different characters/wheels/stickers/paint jobs etc etc. It brings something more fun to the game, though it would have made it more interesting if these upgrades did effect your performance on the vehicles or on the character stats. Give you a reason to want to earn the coins other than for aesthetic reasons (or in my case because 100% of a game is the only way you complete it)I also think that during adventure mode there could have been more to do that doesn't involve racing. So you spend a bit of time driving from race to race; and back to do other things like relic races once the area is complete. I think it would have added a little something extra if there was coins, wumpa fruit, stickers or something like that to collect out in the map rather than just coins for finishing a race. Exploring everywhere is fun, it's even more fun when there is a reason to search every nook and cranny! In conclusion I've thoroughly enjoyed playing CTR again finally after all these years. Because up to 4 players can play in local mode the whole family play on it, though my 9 year old son and his 9 year old best friend from next door are no match for me and his mum ? it's been brilliant showing the kids that they're not the best gamers and when it comes to old school reboots the parents are the ones in first place!Thank you Activision for finally bringing back decent gaming, more crash and more spyro next year please!

A polished and smoother version of the original with a bigger roster featuring customisations for characters/karts, online play, a pit stop where you can purchase items using in-game credits, includes extra game modes such as battles and capture the flag etc, all the tracks from "Crash Nitro Kart" have been added too and they look excellent. The game handles brilliantly, the driving is responsive and feels weighty/razor sharp. Just like the original, pick your preferred racer/class and off you go! Despite the complaints from other players about it being "too difficult", it really isn't - all the mechanics you need to race like a "pro" are there, and it namely comes down to chaining boosts perfectly,air-braking, and taking advantage of "sacred fire" and "ultra sacred fire" (a type of boost, essentially) - these are all features that were in the original CTR game but not many players knew about it or still don't (this is why you could never beat Oxide in his time trials back in the day!) so for these things I highly recommend looking it up on YouTube and you'll learn a lot, it's hard to explain them but it's worth learning about them even if you aren't a trophy/achievement Hunter. If you invest some time in the game and master the controls and drifting, you will be hooked and get a lot of hours out of it. In my own hair-pulling experience, after completing Adventure mode on easy I took a step up to medium and couldn't believe how hard it felt - then I took on the time trial challenges against oxide and after about 3 weeks of grinding and screaming and ageing considerably I managed it, then I went back to complete Adventure mode on hard and laughed heartily as the CPUs inhaled my exhaust fumes. The ONLY gripe I have about this game and the reason I am giving it 4 instead of 5 stars, was the sudden and unexpected addition of microtransactions (using real money to purchase in-game money) in the pit stop - players were ensured previously that this would not be a feature seen in this remake, but obviously somewhere along the lines an exchange of words has been had at Activion HQ and this has been implemented. Fortunately the only items you can buy in this game are purely cosmetic and do NOT give you any advantage in racing whatsoever, and I personally don't spend money on microtransactions anyway so it makes no difference to me, but for any kids playing this game this could be dangerous as they are always gonna want the shiniest new toys, so parents watch out for that one.

I still can't believe it's been 20 years since the original was released. The original CTR was one of my favourite games, so was excited when the PS3 ported over the original as a 'PS Classic' game, which my friend's and I would organise tournaments to get that kick of nostalgia... Though of course, one issue was the really old and limited graphics and new TV's: Having a low-res game being stretched onto a high-res TV didn't really look great. Finally, CTR is back with the same great original feel, with stunning high-res graphics; the only difference is they've gone ten steps further by adding more playable characters, more levels, character customisation...And online play! The Adventure mode gives you the option to play it with the classic settings, playing as Crash only; or the new way where you can change your character and choose the desired difficulty.Gameplay runs smooth and still delivers that high-octane feel, which I and many others love.Online as of this review needs some work, ironing out the servers. I would also like to see a better party lobby where you can then choose go down the private route or jump in together online with other players. Being able to play a cup with a private party is much desired too, as at the moment the party leader has to manually select the map, after every race.Despite its issues, it's still a top-notch remake and would highly recommend to old and new players.

Absolutely frustrating and fun at the same time, honestly if you don't get your timing right for boosting in this game consider yourself last. While I see everyone saying its better than Mario Kart 8, the truth is that it's not as it suffer from a mechanic known as rubber-banding. Basically no matter how good a lead you take the computer is always magically pushed to be right behind you. Hence it is challenging and fun but you have to be at your best. Also while Mario Kart doesn't have the flawed rubber-banding, it's frustration is items which is something this game has balanced out. Another horrible thing the developer has done is put in micro transactions (pay real money to unlock things)which is absolutely not right but at the same time it's not like major things are tied to spending actual money as a good amount of grinding in the game will get you what you need to better your driving.Overall it's a great game and a must buy if you want to enjoy Crash Team Racing (CTR) on the go. If that's not your priority then get the game for the PS4/XBOX ONE as they are graphically better and cheaper price wise.

This game is just brilliant in every way! I’ve just completed the adventure mode and it was tons of fun! They really have put a lot of love into this game. It’s a great experience for anyone who was born in the 90s! This is just like I remember from when I was a kid! There are a lot of new features such as skins, decals, kart bodies, paint jobs, stickers and much more! This game really does have a lot to offer! Even an online mode where you can race or battle with friends and random people once you’ve completed the adventure mode, it’s a barrel of laughs especially with your friends!Oh and don’t even get me started on the graphics! They’re 10/10 especially on the PS4 Pro!The one thing I really love about this is the more you play, the more you are rewarded with coins which can be used in the item shop called ‘Pit Stop’. The Pit Stop allows you to redeem new items with your hard earned coins rather than using actual money, and it refreshes every 24 hours which will keep the game fresh. So No! THERE ARE NO MICRO-TRANSACTIONS! ?And yes, this is better than Mario Kart.I highly recommend this product!

I played this far for too many hours when I was a kid and it has always and will always be better than any Mario Kart game.It looks great remastered and the mechanics are just as good as they were back in the day. It still has the replay-ability value as beating your track times feels rewarding, but my Switch has nearly ended up against the wall several times. The additional content and challenges add even more enjoyment in my opinion and it feels like it has been remastered with time and affection. After 20 hours plus of playing, my only gripes are that to get Wumpa coins you need to be connected to the Internet, which defeats the purpose of having a portable console! Also, the only way to get all the characters and upgrades you really need the Nintendo Online Service and would have to grind online for tens of hours to buy all of the extras. An absolutely fantastic game for gamers, but I probably wouldn't recommend this for children due to the difficulty.

This is an excellent port to the switch. The game overall is a fantastic fun and face paced homage to the original playstation game. However, what is not written anywhere on the box is that this is very much an online game with MICRO-TRANSACTIONS.You earn points regardless of what you do in the game called Wumpa Coins as long as your switch is connected to the internet, which you can use in the 'Pit Stop' shop to buy new characters, skins and karts. The grind for these is not too harsh, especially if you do a few online races at the weekends or complete in game events. However, if you're buying this for children, bare in mind they will 100% be tempted to spend real money on the coins you can readily buy at the Pit Stop.Ensure you are watching your kids or making sure you don't have any payment details stored! As for the online, there is no voice chat and no communication. Your children should be safe enough to race online against other players.

Just like the original with a graphics upgrade. It's harder than mario kart, I found it harder to slide than Mario kart so younger players may find it too hard on anything except easy. Its fast as well, faster than Mario kart which adds to the difficulty but I like that it makes you work for success, just like games should be.Graphics are a bit rough in handheld mode it's not as shiney and smooth as mario kart but looks better in docked. It's got a huge amount of content and racers but you need internet connection to get the best out of the game (coins for unlocks etc) so take that into account.Overall it's very good and has more depth than mario kart which has been the bench mark for years. But, if you're buying this for younger gamers be aware thats it's quite tricky to get the best out of, youd be better with Mario kart.

Great little racer, I think there is enough in this game to keep newcomers to the game and people like myself who played the original from 1999 happy. The courses all look great and the characters all have good voice overs, leaving the game feeling polished and fun to play. The only part I have had any reason to complain about is the online which has had people (Myself included) being disconnected from the servers, and for a pay to play online service that just doesn't cut it. It's really a shame really as I know someone who has the PS4 version and apparently they don't have as many problems on there to the extent I seem to have on this platform. Not sure who is at fault here, and I don't want to point any fingers without knowing what is happening but still disappointing as it is jolly good fun :)

Very minor differences compared to the original but overall excellent port. Better than Mario Kart - game is more well balanced, though requires skill as it runs so much faster, so probably not the best for casual play. Difficulty has definitely been upped - hard is impossible. Better to start with classic or medium difficulty for experienced players, and beginners can start with easy.Only downside is that coins (which are used for unlocking content) can only be earned whilst the switch is connected to the internet - you don't earn coins if the console is disconnected. Also its quite a grind playing solo - you earn a lot more points when playing online. The load times (20-30 seconds per track)and resolution (720p) is a bit of a pain, but to be expected given this is also available on PS4.

The best cart racing game out there. A MarioKart beater for sure! There's an amazing amount of content in this game, and it doesn't end there with seasonal DLC available going forward. New tracks and events stretching out over the next few months will keep players engrossed. The game play is tricky, and driving skills need to be honed, even with the many power ups which become available over time. The tracks are tricky too, and need lots of practice to beat. There's plenty of meat to this game which just gets better the deeper you go. Great visuals and soundtrack top this stunning game off with loads of replay value thrown in. Beenox have come up with the goods here with an excellent reimagining of the original.A must have game for any cart racing/Crash fans out there!

What can I say? It’s tag team racing, just as I remember it (all be it with updated graphics). The controls feel very classic, yet have an ease of use to them. However my one issue, and it was the same with the original, is that it’s just so hard! Sometimes I genuinely find myself contemplating if the game cheats, just for the reactions of players. I wouldn’t recommend the game on easy mode though, as that tends to become monotonous and going for win after win is just plain boring. That being said, it’s still remarkable fun. Multiplayer feels fun and engaging while singleplayer adventure mode has its own little gems, where you find yourself cursing the AI and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment when you finally cross the finish line first.

Good game for single player or couch multiplayer gaming, a much needed quality kart racer for PS4 and Xbox One. However, the online at the moment is really unbalanced, where you have 1 or 2 people the only ones finishing the race. This demotivates me from playing online, and I think in the long run, will damage the game's player base.Either adding a ranking system for more balanced racing, or items that can ACTUALLY impact first position, would bring me back to it.p.s. the Chumpa Coins system for offline play needs to be sorted ASAP, considering you have to complete around 40-odd offline races to even get a character. To sum up, great potential, but so much more can be improved.
