Minecraft is the ultimate sandbox game. But how good is it?Firstly it is not as up to date as the PC version and world size is "862 blocks by 862 blocks" whereas the PC version is 30 million blocks by 30 million blocks before world generation gets a little weird.Secondly, as I said the paragraph above 'not as up to date' you wouldn't expect it to have ALL the blocks. But there is still A LOT of blocks and Potions are all the same (there maybe some missing from the PC version). Finally there are a few glitches. As I play i normally I run against walls and I become glitched in them. When travelling in a minecart round tight bends your screen might go very quickly into a wall then out again. It could get annoying. Why am I moaning? This has been one of the best games I have ever played. The crafting system is so easy to use and operate, placing blocks can be easy, exploring can be fun and you dont get that annoying "Oof" when you take damage. The best thing is if you have a more updated version you can just exit the game, switch to creative and build anything. I love that, but it is kind of classed as cheating.Time to moan again. The CONS of the game. Glitches, not up to date, world size, and the Nether. The Nether is a different environment. But when I go there I dread everything. Talk about big drops of mountains. If you're not careful you get hit into lava and lose EVERYTHING (unless you have Fire Resistance). At least there are Nether Fortresses. One last thing, DON'T ANNOY THE PIGMEN!Some of the deaths are a little biased and mobs can sneak up on you. Ender Pearling around to much to your death will say' _player name_ fell from a high place' WHEN YOU TELEPORT TO A BLOCK YOU DON'T FALL TO IT! The mob system is just horrible but it is simple. You run straight a mob without it even touching you. But say you were in a mineshaft looking from diamonds and a creeper comes up and blows up.To survive everyday you need diamond armor.Last of all, The End. To find the portal to the end you need AT LEAST 20 ender pearls and blaze rods to make 20 Eye of Enders (10 to find the Stronghold and if you're lucky, 10 to fix the portal) and you can kill the Ender Dragon. Do some research on The End from the MC wiki. You get tons of XP from the dragon. ITS EPIC!It is a good game. If it was just a bit better it would get 5 stars.

A game which has something for everyone and offers hundreds of hours of endless fun. The possibilities of what you can excavate or create are endless, everything from castles and towns to huge underground caves are waiting to be built... All that it requires is your imagination! There are two modes, survival where by you must find what you need to build what you want and creative mode where everything is available at your finger tips. Different worlds can be created too, from flat maps to forests and caves waiting to be found so the combinations that can be had are unreal. Maps are full of creatures like cows and other animals such as wolves but beware at night as the monsters come out such as zombies and spiders. For me though this game is as its best when played with friends, invite them in to your world and create something spectacular together and remember it can be anything you want. Sure the graphics may not be the best but that misses the point of this game, in fact the more you get into it and realise the size and depth of the game the more you realise the graphics aren't that bad and in fact add a different take on what we've all come to expect from games, for example seeing everything in blocks is hilarious and the fact you can ride a pig with a saddle I would argue can't be eclipsedPROS: insane fun, broaden your mind as the possibilities are endless, for what's on offer this is probably one of the best value for money games out there.CONS: you do require patience especially in survival mode, it can take away your social life (its that addictive), beware of the price fluctuating as it can be bought direct thought xbox live for around £10VERDICT: a truly brilliant game that can be epically fun, invite your friends and it takes it to the next level. Open your mind and dream the impossible, in this game you are allowed to break the rules!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!UPDATE May 2014: There have been many graphics packs that can be bough for under £1 each and they really have an impressive impact on the game. I highly Recommend the Plastic pack as it does take that rough look away. Also worth pointing out that there have been many updates since writing my original review and all have had a positive impact on the game!

This review is for the Xbox Live Arcade Edition (download only, no physical copy), but it's exactly the same.To be honest, there was a time when I never quite "got" Minecraft. I guess I was too used to flashy graphics and high-res textures in my games and couldn't take Minecraft's quirky, low-res appearance seriously. However, I started following the players on the 'Mindcrack' Minecraft server on YouTube (VintageBeef, Baj, PauseUnpause, Guude, Etho, docm77, to name but a few) and it didn't take long before I "got" it. I'm not really a PC gamer, so I jumped at the chance to try it for myself on the 360. And I've been hooked ever since.I've played all kinds of games, from 'Dead Space'(still one of my favourites - a scary game you'd think) and violent first-person shooters, but NONE of them actually scared me or made me physically jump. And yet, humble little Minecraft DID. You can find yourself alone in the dark in a deep cave looking for ores and other resources, with only torches to light your way (in Survival mode you have to find and/or craft everything you need; you also need to farm or hunt animals for food or you will literally starve to death!). Zombies, Skeletons armed with a bow-and-arrow, huge spiders (don't play if you're arachnophobic!) and Creepers - strange green creatures that blow up when in close proximity to you! - all lurk in the darkness and all want your blood! If you play with headphones on, it really is quite unnerving, but in a fun way! In fact it's quite amazing that such a relatively simple game can provoke such a reaction, where so many other more technically complicated games fail.If you want a game that will allow you to do as little or as much as you want and just chill for a couple of hours building a house you can be proud of; if you want a game that can challenge you in battle with dragons and other fantastical creatures (the final Boss battle of the game) then Minecraft is for you. It is a game that literally anyone can play, from 6-yr-olds, to grandparents and I promise you both age-groups with get something out of it.

We recently got this for the rainy days in the summer holidays and it has got to be the best £13 I spent in a long time.I purchased the disk version of the game (instead of digital download) because I have had enough hard drives die on me to know having a disk for £3 more is a good idea. The basic Principle:A lego block like interactive world which can be demolished or built. Each world features desert, snow, grasslands, sea and multiple types of terrain. Because of this simplicity it has almost infinite combinations for the worlds. So when you get bored of a world start a new one to explore.Creative mode is like god mode - explore and do any thing you want, nothing kills you and you can fly.Survival mode - You have to build your shelter, mine for materials, eat to stay healthy, hunt/grow food, Replanting trees you have used for tools, make materials like iron ore to iron for tools or making glass from sand and heat. Survive the baddies - zombies, skeletons, spiders & creepers.TIP - for younger players put it on peaceful in survival mode which removes the baddies. But they do the other survival tasks.TIP - if you want to play this split screen then you need to set your display settings to a minimum of 720p (in your xbox display settings)Both my 6 year old son & my 11 year old Daughter are hooked. It is nice to see them working together instead of the normal sibling rivalry, though there been a bit of thievery between them like nicked tools etc.It looks so basic in terms of graphics when you look at all the other games for the xbox. But in my opinion it is possibly one of the best games ever released on the platform.

My review will start after this small disclaimer:-Unlike the PC version, where you can walk literally for hours, and the world is almost never-ending, this console version isn't! The world is not that big, you could run from one end to the other in about 15 minutes, where you then come across invisible walls! :( Because of this miniature biomes are usually squeezed into one map, taking away the feeling of a huge world. If you have never played the PC version, then this probably won't bother you, you'll probably think that the world is huge. Bear this in mind before buying. My Review:Minecraft is a game limited only by what you can imagine. It's like being in one giant Lego set of never-ending bricks. It's basically about doing whatever you want. The game has no linear campaign, no kind of story, or even any mandatory objectives, yet it is still very enjoyable. The only problem with having no story is that after a while you begin to realize that the game doesn't really go anywhere, you just build things. So it looks simple, but underneath it's quite complex. If you feel like a challenge, you can play in survival mode, where you'll have to build a hut [monsters come out at night] find food, build weapons etc.Or if you're the creative type, you can play creative mode to build a big castle, a large house, a skyscraper, or anything else you fancy.Children will love this game, and quite a lot of adults will too. You can play splitscreen with 2-4 people on one console [HDTV required], or up to about 10 people online.I'd definitely recommend this game, it will kill hours of spare time!

Ok, I'm an older gamer, have been gaming since the 90's, spend a lot of time looking at latest gen high quality games with beautiful graphics and smooth game play. However.. My kids just don't want to know about these. They love this blocky, square, clunky game.... And I can see why... It looks bad, but it's quite good fun to sculpt and build different things from the huge array of blocks and pieces you can get. There are a couple of different modes, but we prefer the creator mode which basically gives you access to everything so you can build what you like. My kids have been building their own little world, starting with houses, and every time I join them for a few minutes, they've got something else cool added, like a little animal park, a rollacoaster, a working shower, little pet cats and dogs. When I take into consideration the cost of the game (I paid £25) they've used it lots so it's probably good value. However I do have a slight grip that it's far cheaper on other formats, I actually have it for free on xbox, but switch always seems to price games high, the game has been out for quite a while so I don't see why it's still so high. All said and done, the kids love it to the point where i actually have to ask them to come of their switch (which I don't have to do if they play mariokart or something else as they get board after a few games). So I can't complain and would recommend. I've removed a star due to the cost vs other formats.

I originally bought Minecraft years ago for my laptop back when it was an independent release still in Beta. I loved it for a few days but then never went back to it. Since then, I’ve owned a version on my xBox 360 (which I lost when I moved over to a PS4) and now I have the Switch version (which is by far the priciest version to date). My main reason for buying this again was basically due to my five year old daughter. She’s itching to play games but all of the ones I’ve purchased so far have been too difficult for her to fully grasp on her own. Minecraft has been perfect, in a short space of time she was showing me features I didn’t know existed (its come a long way from its humble beginnings).Thenegatives for me is you’re paying a premium for a version that is probably the most technically inferior. The draw distance is okay, and probably akin to my old 360, however, I would expect the Switch to do better. There also seems to be lots of extras that are locked - not sure if you earn these or if you can only buy them (I’m guessing it’s the latter). That being said, it does come with a free Super Mario themed world which we haven’t tried yet.The positives are seeing my little girls face light up as she plays, watching her improve her dexterity and getting to build things together with her in 2-player mode. For me, these factors far outweigh the negatives and have prevented me from becoming bored as I did during previous iterations.

Truly is an amazing game. Certainly a game that isn't just for kids. I'm in my 30's and ended up totally hooked when I started playing yesterday. Suddenly it was midnight and I should have been tucked up long before with work early this morning!Graphically, takes me back to the days of the Commodore 64. However, that's part of the charm of the game. It reminds me where many video games fail these days. Graphically stunning but often lack the story and game play. 'Back in the day' (to sound a bit old), games couldn't rely on amazing graphics. Therefore, the only thing that would sell lots of copies and keep people hooked was a great concept and game play.If you're young and used to games that look great, open your mind and forget about that. Get over the initial thoughts of how rubbish it looks and start playing. Endless possibilities. It'll take a while, and probably a few restarts, before you realise the tactics and the things that you should be doing straight away in order to progress. Once you get into it, you'll find loads of things that you can combine or heat to make other things, and there are so many possibilities. It's a great game for adults, and, in my opinion, a must have to buy your young children. It'll help expand their minds and creativity much more than any other game on the market.

Minecraft - Xbox 360 is an amazing game that will give you 100's hours of entertainment. My daughter was into Minecraft for a while playing it on the PC version before it came out on the Xbox 360. Once it came out on the Xbox 360 we bought it and play every weekend for hours on end. It's a great way to hang out with your kids and create some amazing creations. When I was a kid it was sitting on the floor playing with LEGO's not its Minecraft. It's not just mindless game play, many times my daughter and I drew out on paper what we wanted to make before creating it within the game. The game is only limited by your imgination. The game has had some great upgrade to it,to include allowing to tame ocelots(they tame into cats) and wolves (they tame into a dogs). The game is super fun and Minecraft would be a great Christmas gift for kids and adults alike. I enjoy this game and would definitely recommend it.Thank you for reading my review, if you have any questions feel free to email me, I would be happy to help you with any questions you have.

There's a paradox at the heart of Minecraft, at least for parents purchasing the game for their kids: how can an such a (seemingly) graphically primitive game, with no narrative structure, hold the user's attention, and continue to hold it, for apparently inexhaustible amounts of time? The answer probably lies in the creative aspect; Minecraft is essentially a CAD program, the user manipulating 3D blocks to assemble pretty much everything, from a wall to a city (above or below ground). Once acclimatised to the environment, then the game really begins to grip as day follows night (at approximately 20 minute intervals) and various hazards reveal themselves, depending on whether you have chosen Survival or Creative mode.At the heart of the game is the user's ability to maintain, control and grow their domains, to dominate their immediate world and pursue further ones. If you're contemplating this as a game for your child(ren) then I would say don't hesitate; it's an adventure in imagination and creativity.

What can I say. This is probably the most fun and addictive game for our two kids (ages: 8 and 6). For people not familiar with minecraft, it is like an infinite lego-land where the players get to build houses (and decorate their own rooms), work together/collaborate, but when the sun sets run back into their houses, because it is the time that the monsters (zombies? creepers? god if I know) come out. What I like is that the game allows for more than one players to participate in the game at the same time. The screen splits into two (top & bottom halves of the screen), and they get to live and do their thing in the same world. To demonstrate how addictive the game is,my kids now regularly watch minecraft videos uploaded on youtube, narrated by (world-famous) Stampy, and they get new ideas and decide what to do next when they play again. We bought this game 9 months ago, and they are still playing it like there is no tomorrow.I don't think you will find a game that lasts longer. Money well spent.

My kids love it. All I hear is in Minecraft this and Minecraft that. Great creative game for my 7 year old half the time I don't know what he was talking about when he mentions Enderman and Zombie-Pig-Men so it was an education for me watching him play through it. In the basic mode you can do just about everything from finding raw materials, to building whatever you need and mixing potions, and adopting wolves and so much more. There are other modes like survival where the game is more structured. It can be played on and offline, whether you want other people visiting your created world or not. You can play split screen 2 player even offline with 2 controllers (it does cut down arguments on whose turn it is).I have not played the PC version but I have heard this is a great conversion. It will keep kids entertained for hours; the only argument will be when they have to come off it. BE PREPARED. Also be prepared to learn the terminology know more about what they did here then what they did at school.

Should come with a Parental warning!!!If you are giving this to your child, they will start playing this simple game and be instantly hooked. They will bore you with tours of their worlds and invite you to play along. They will immediately tell you how you are doing it all wrong and kick you off or take your controller and build the thing/ destroy the thing you have been attempting to get to grips with for the past 45 mins this will destroy all your cool parent credentials in one fell swoop (you will have cool parent credentials from buying the game in the first place however, sadly it wont last once you try to play ....!)Basically once given, you will struggle to see your child and if they have access to the internet and discover stampy or similar on YOUTUBE you may as well forget the heady days of communication - well until they move out, get married and have children of their own which they in turn will lose to this game.Good luck fair warned is fair armed :-):-)
