Appears to be brand new with all items present and correct complete with all expected packaging and protective films etc, but why didn't the package have the Sony seal intact? This is not good, and it seems it's not a one off. I successfully registered the flash complete with its serial number, on the Sony site, so pretty sure it is new, but.. ..every other Sony camera equipment I've purchased came with an unbroken seal.On the plus side the price here was great and I've successfully claimed the Sony cashback - it's a heck of a lot of flash for £309.This flash is equipped with the new metal reinforced "ni" Multi Interface iso style hot shoe, so it suits only the very newest Sony bodies from 2013-on,e.g. it fits the A77 Mk II but not the original A77, but the upside is it's a much more robust mount than the previous Minolta/Monica/Sony iISO (which was their inside out, plastic, fragile accessory mount). The package includes an adapter for use with the older bodies, but that makes it taller, and it's a big heavy flash, so I'd expect that just increases the risk of breaking the old-style cameras' accessory shoes. Even though it can be adapted, I really would't recommend it for regular use with older pre-2013 camera bodies that use iISO sockets. As for the flash itself, it's a great flash for a keen amateur, extending the range and functions in every conceivable manner. A nice upgrade from the HVL-F56AM that I used with older bodies, but with a caveat...Overheating. It's in the manual, it's real, and it has caught me out already! For the occasional shots, no worries, beautifully controllable output, oodles of power if you need it, but if you take a good few high power shots it will lock-out for a few minutes while it cools. I never encountered this with the HVL-F56AM, so I suspect the HVL-F60M has a design compromise with respect to internal cooling. It's not a big issue, but don't expect to fire away like you might with a studio flash, and in my case I'll repair the HVL-F56AM (replace hot shoe, again) and keep it as a spare on hand when need be.Included accessories even includes a Stofen-like diffuser that works really well, but of course that demands more output power and increase the risk of over-heating time-outs.Once aware of it's limitations, you can return to being amazed by its capabilities, flexibility, and ease of control.

This is only a first impression, I will update when I have put it through its paces. My previous flash was a Nikon SB910 and initial comparisons with the F60M made me think they are comparable in quality and features. The F60M's head adjusts very well, not only does it tilt up to vertical it will also adjust left or right so when you shoot in portrait the flash head will still be at the top not to one side. The only feature the F60M hasn't got is a head lock - with the SB910 you have to press a large rubberised button to enable any movement. The F60M feels strong and well made but if the ratchet mechanism works loose over time it could move by itself. Only time will tell. The F60M is featured with weather sealing to match the a99,I can't remember about the SB910 but I would assume it has similar sealing as it is the top model in the current Nikon line up.One big possible let down in durability of the F60M is that unlike the SB910 which has a metal hot shoe connector it has a plastic version (the thin bit that actually slides into the camera hot shoe). I find this inexcusable especially considering the F60M is the top model in the Sony range and is actually more expensive than the SB910 from most photographic suppliers. This is a big and heavy flash gun which should be built for professional use. Again only time will tell, I will update if I have any issues. The hot shoe locking mechanism looks good, it has a large lever you slide from left to right and to unlock you have to press a button on the end of this lever before it will move back left. One good feature the F60M has over the SB910 is once attached to a camera and both are powered up if you then turn the camera off the flash is also powered down - a power save feature, and a good one (using on my a99). Pretty sure the SB910 didn't do this. One definite plus over the SB910 is the very bright LED video light on the underside of the head - brilliant!Only 4 stars due to the lack of head lock and the plastic hot shoe mount.

I have a Sony NEX-VG30EH but even though this is primarily designed for the videographer, it takes very high quality stills due to the sensor and E-mount lenses. This flash ticked all the boxes as I needed a fairly powerful flash and given the form factor of the video camera, size wasn't to much of an issue. The built in video light is perfect for close up video shots of people when using a fast portrait lens like the Sony F1.8 50 mm.I used the video light to capture a slow dance in the evening with only disco lights to light the couple but the video light was able the brighten their faces up without flooding the dace floor with light. With a combination of this video light, a fast lens, and a big sensor that performs well in low light is a great combination. This is the first flashgun I've used a for a long time, but I was very impressed with it's build quality. The most impressive thing about this flash it's the amount of light it gives out!! When taking indoor shots in my average size living room it fills the room with light with lots of options to diffuse and bounce the light. I suppose you can't generate an output of that much light without drawing power, and I managed to flatted a set of Duracell batteries just playing around !!!! So I've invested in some powerful rechargeable's which will pay for themselves very soon. You can get an external power pack but for me it would be too much kit.Given I'm an armature videographer, but also wanted to use my NEX-VG30 to capture high quality stills, this flashgun is just the job and I would recommend it.

A very good, Pro level flash for newer Sony cameras with the multi interface hot shoe. The rear screen is bright and well laid out, the flash exposure is consistent on an A7II camera and DOES NOT over heat (compared to various complaints online as the firmware on new stock like my one has been updated at the factory to prevent this happening, though at the expense of recycle time as it heats up). The video light is useful at close range, I like that its adjustable but the on button for the light function is awkwardly placed and easy to nudge on by accident, losing you shots as the flash won't function at that point in stills mode.It would also have been nice if the light could have acted as a focussing aid in low light and then switched to flash mode when the shot was taken. Also, the flash is very big compared to the 43M and the connection via the small multi interface hotshoe feels a little flimsy - having said that, its never actually come loose during a shoot so far. The Quick bounce function in portrait mode is sublime and a real advantage over other flash guns.

Sony stole 50% of the market share from Canon and Nikon. In its class the A7Rii is the best stills camera available for multidisciplinary use. Therefore an equally on the go flash unit was required. Stunning and includes Led continuous light for Video in the bargain.

Is there a reason that sony products are delivered with a broken seal. This happened to me this week too. The product works very well and I am very happy with it but I am curious about why the product arrives as if it has been used.

A beast of a flashgun, well made and i don't understand why some people have had problems with the hot shoe adapter, it connects perfectly to my Sony A65. The flashgun is crazy bright, fast and easy to use.

6.8.2015

Does an excellent job when connected to the Sony a7r.However, the led focus assistance on the camera is used instead of the more powerful flash assistance.

15.4.2017

Brilliant in every sense of the word. But, you do not need to buy the adaptor as it is in the box.

24.5.2015

Fabulous unit with a real range and fully featured.

Amust for TTL and HSS.
