I have had my Sony A6000 for a month now and can say that it is a truly exceptional camera. I had owned a Nikon D600 and several lenses and it was like undertaking some mammoth Himalayan expedition every time I wanted to go out and take some shots. I like to take lots of different styles of photography; landscape, street, sports, nature etc and felt that my bulky DSLR kit hindered me, particularly when it came to street photography. So I started looking around for some alternatives. I didn't really know too much about mirrorless cameras systems so I did a lot of research, online reviews and I also spoke with someone in a shop who happened to have one, and I got a feel for it,which was really helpful and probably tipped the scales in favour of the A6000.I bought the camera with the 16-50mm kit lens and I also bought the 55-210mm Sony lens as well. Coming from a large DLSR camera and lens the first thing you will notice the huge difference in size and weight, I know that it might seem obvious but I was still very surprised at how light this camera is. The build quality is great too and the camera feels really solid in your hand. Aesthetically I love its design, I was going to get a black version but when I saw the silver one in the flesh, so to speak, I thought it looked beautiful. As I stated I just bought the camera about a month ago so I am still getting used to it, the functionality is quite different to what I am used to but I have to say that I am getting used to it and whilst you can set up the Sony A6000 to shoot pretty much in the same way as a DLSR, you really are't making the most our of the amazing features that you get on this mirrorless came. Here's just some of the things I really love about the A6000; the ISO auto, means shooting in M mode is a breeze; the Manual Focus mode gives you a close up in the EVF of what you are focussing on, how great is that?; the AF system is brilliant and so fast; 11fps is just mind-blowing; the tilt screen is great for candid street shots and combined with the ISO auto on M mode makes this a great camera for shooting from the hip; wi-fi is also really handy, I had the camera with me on a recent trip and was able to send images to my iPad and process them in Lightroom whilst sitting in a cafe.I have given the Sony A6000 a 5 star rating, however there are a few things I have noticed that I think could be improved on; the battery life isn't good and it won't make a day of heavy shooting (I have bought a back-up to carry around); the shutter noise is way too loud, especially for street photography and probably any nature or macro photography involving animals (there might be a quite setting, but I haven't found it yet); the EVF and screen don't cope well in bright sunlight and it would have been nice if the screen could have tilted even further than it does.All-in-all, the Sony A6000 is an outstanding and astounding camera and I'm really glad that I have made the move from DSLR to mirrorless.

I was looking for a small camera that I could take with me all the time instead of my 6D which is a bit on the large side to be going with all the time, having done some research I bought the Sony A6000. My main requirements when buying were size and most importantly the image qualityI have had it a couple of weeks now and I am very pleased that i bought it, the size is just right, with the kit lens it fits in my coat pocket. The camera has a lot of features, the focusing with the kit lens is very impressive, its very fast and accurate. I like the EVF viewfinder which I prefer to use rather than the LCD screen, though for low level shooting the tilting screen is great. The layout of the controls I like and find I do not need to take my eye away from the viewfinder when changing settings, you also can customize some of the buttons which is handy for the options you use the most. Have the camera set to back button focus which I prefer, the menu layout I find to pretty well set out, only had the camera for a short while and already find it easy to navigate. The built in flash comes in handy though its not that powerful but you can tilt it.As for the image quality, this was one of the most important things which I was looking for when buying, I can say even with the kit lens is excellent.I like the fact that with an adapter which I bought I can use my Canon lenses, though the focus is much slower than with the Sony kit lens I found it no problem as I mainly shoot landscape. As for noise I have not shot anything above ISO 800 as of yet but at this ISO I found the image quality was fine. One of the options you get is that you can download apps from from Playmemories, there isn't alot but the couple I have I think will come in handy. Setting up the wi-fi was straight forward and was hassle free, able to upload to Facebook and to my smartphone. So to round up this is an excellent camera and I am very pleased to have bought it,i like:Image qualitySizeFeaturesThe only thing that I would like to say that when using the kit lens at 16mm you get a lot of distortion and vignetting, though this is easy corrected in Lightroom.Would I recommend this camera, yes I would, I am well impressed with it. The camera is excellent, easy to for  beginners to use and with its features and image quality it is an excellent choice for the more advanced photographer who wants something that it small enough to be carried with then all the time.

So far the A6000 is good. I'm still learning how to use it and learn about all the settings. I list below what i think.1. It is a good size. I could do with a slightly bigger body for my hands like the A7ii but for the price the A6000 is way more affordable and has awesome quality images.2. It is packed with different settings. I'm still learning them all.3. The interchangeable lens ability is great for such a compact camera and really gives it an edge over others of the same size.4. The digital viewfinder is OK. I still prefer one that is in the centre of the body like a standard DSLR or A7ii rather than set to one side. But to have the choice of using viewfinder or screen is a bonus.5.The flip out screen is OK but practically, it is not as good as one that flips out to the side. But it does help in getting low shots without having to kneel on the ground. Sony really needs to incorporate a side flipping one.6. The resolution of the screen is OK. Can't really see much in the bright day light though so could be brighter.7. The built in microphone is surprisingly good considering it is rated by others as a week point. It recorded outside on a really windy day with the minimum of wind noise captured. I don't have an external mic for it yet, but I know you can get one that attaches to the flash hot shoe. The A6000 really could of been built with a dedicated external microphone input of its own though instead of using the hot shoe. But considering it's price point it is still awesome value without this feature.8. The battery life on the new battery is very good. Lasts a decent few hours of continuous videoing ability.9. Uploading to laptop is easy using Sony PlayMemories Editor. 10. I highly recommend the A6000 in terms of its quality of images and video and the features it has plus a great size for travelling. With the ability to use different lens makes it really versatile.11. The one real annoying aspect of the camera is the positioning of the video record button. Totally in the wrong place and very difficult to use without deliberately locating it and double checking on the screen that it is actually recording. 12. Overall, an outstanding little camera for the price point. And a great entry level piece of kit for getting started in photography or videography. I would buy it again if I had to.

I have a bit of a passion for cameras but I only go for the more mobile versions and leave the DLSRs to the big boys. This one was a bit of a treat and I am delighted with it. I don't intend to cover the many features as they can be found on professional review sites. What I will say is that it provides everything I need and more. I love the unbelievable fast shooting for when I am on the beach with my dog. It manages to maintain pin-point focus even though my dog is hurtling towards me. I have included an example I took last week. The controls are exceptionally intuitive and have allowed me to very easily pick up the skills coming from two other main brands.I barely look at the manual (apart from finding out how to set the memory) and find that everything I use on a regular basis is at my fingertips.Typical criticisms found on review sites include the poor battery performance however spare batteries are readily available and part of the life of a digital photographer. Some miss a touch screen but personally I never warmed to touch screens and always used dials and buttons. The lack of in-built optical image stabilisation might be an issue and forces you somewhat to purchase more expensive bespoke Sony lenses with it in-built in them as opposed to third party lenses which tend not to have it but are far cheaper. In terms of future-proofing, I am glad to see that the stabilised lenses provide additional stabilisation to cameras with it in-built so at least you are not completely wasting your money in terms of future upgrades. Something not generally mentioned that I would have preferred would have been the ability to completely turn the screen back on itself. This would not only protect the screen but also encourage you to use the viewfinder more often (and so save batteries). The tilting screen is still very useful. The availability of lenses offers something for everyone with some reasonably priced prime lenses offering more advanced and professional shooting. The top-end of the lenses are mind-blowing.Overall - I could not be happier with the superb specification, ability and expand-ability of this camera.

I bought this as a step up from my Sony NEX 3. Immediately the viewfinder rather than just a screen has meant I have all but abandoned using the screen other than for those low down or high up arm stretching shots for which its' very useful. The super fast AF is wonderful for action shots coupled with the 11 frames per second facility to capture the action just right, although you find you are having to delete so many frames that you learn to be economical with the shutter. The superb processor means that there is no shutter lag to be worried about. With regard to finding your way around the camera's functions: this is streets away from the cumbersome NEX 3.The menu system is pretty well straight forward once you have played about with it a bit.I can also use my existing lenses with it. This means that they are not motor driven which suits me as I could never get used to fiddling backwards and forwards with a motor drive to get the exact framing I desired. The different location of the movie button is also a big help as I continually hit it when placed alongside the thumb pad of the NEX 3. Also the addition of the built-in flash means the camera is easier to pack into the camera bag and when needed, pops up at the touch of a button. This is an excellent camera to take on holiday as you can effortlessly use it for those point and shoot snaps we all take and then when you have a little time, set up fantastic images that the family will ooh and aah over when you get home. It is not a slip in the pocket camera, being one third less the size of conventional DSLR's but the lenses are compact so it is far less cumbersome to carry about, requiring a smaller bag to fit your spare lenses and cleaning kit etc.I am no professional photographer or would even call myself a competent amateur and with the limited time I have had the a-6000 here are a couple of images from it. I am very happy to recommend it and am sure the advanced features would satisfy the demands of a talented amateur or semi-professional.

I bought this camera to shoot mostly video as I have recently started aerial video shooting from a drone and this camera is fairly small and light but shoots very good quality video with fantastic auto-focus and control. I have only used it on the ground so far but have been blown away at the quality of the footage. Stills quality is also top notch (my other camera is a Canon 5D mk 3 so the bar is set fairly high). Although the Canon does perform better in many ways the Sony A6000 is not that far behind and some of its video features are better than the Canon (continuous auto-focus for example). The speed (11 fps) is nearly twice the speed of the Canon.Considering the price difference and handiness of the Sony compared to the 5Diii you are getting a lot of camera for the money. If you invest in some of Sonys higher end lenses I think the quality would be very close indeed to the Canon 5Diii. I particularly like the look of the SELP18-200mm power zoom lens and the pancake 20mm f2.8 (SEL20F28) for my aerial work.It is a really nice camera to use - the controls are mostly well positioned and quick to set up how you want it. The 3 custom modes you can set up are excellent and really useful. I use mainly Program mode and have set up the function buttons to adjust the auto-focus mode quickly. I like the non-touch variety screen. I like the viewfinder that keeps your nose away from the screen!Only downside I have found with this camera is the battery life which is rather short but probably about the same as most cameras of this type. You will want a spare in your bag. And Sony are a bit tight not to include a separate charger. For those reasons alone I have marked features and value down to four stars. An excellent camera for the keen middle user and as a smaller carry-around for the pro.

Starting being made around 2014, and at the time and even by 2018 standards, this is quite a powerful piece of camera. There are 3 sister models of this group but they do jump up in great price, but this one does all I need more than I would get from its sisters.Has a massive 24mp sensor when used in RAW, Jpeg comes in at about 9mp. So you can use either to very good effect, though can be classed as a pro camera due to array of toys and high RAW imaging, On this model it does record in 1080 but not 4K which its 2 bigger sisters will do, but that's why you are paying a lot more money for as well. Though video is excellent and seamless, there are settings to get the best out of it.Panoramic are very good and great in RAW. The camera itself has no mirror, so little noise and no movement, and images are very good indeed. But this is not going to sell the camera- you need to go on line to the posted videos of the A6000 being used to see what it can do- and for a small camera it is a heck of a lot it even puts its big brother the A7R somewhat in the shade. But it has a very special part piece-it has a removable lens which you can fit other lenses to and being a pro camera user and liking my bigger lenses, you for most camera buy a lens adaptor which will allow to use Nikons, Canons etc. lenses on the little Sony A6000. There is mostly 2 adaptor - a manual and a auto focus, the manual you can pick up reasonable and allows manual focus of the lens, the autofocus is considerably more money, and have seen them as much as over £300 but as cheap as £150, but this does allow the lens to be controlled by the camera which is fantastic, as the systems all work together. Lot more than I can tell you here about it. just a fantastic little pro camera. I love it.Read full review...

As an experienced DSLR user, i wanted a compact alternative for those days when carrying a bag full of heavy gear wasn't desirable. However, the end results need to be of the best quality possible ... i didn't want to take pictures and then think, I should have taken the DSLR. Having previously owned a Sony NEX C3 and impressed by its results .. i decided to upgrade to the latest model with electronic viewfinder. The Sony A6000 is compact, sturdy and produces incredible results from its 24mp sensor. The picture quality, contrast and dynamic range are excellent. I regularly have pictures published in Transport Magazines and I have no doubt that that the pictures produced by this camera meet the standards required for publication. In addition, it can do, what my DSLR can't. It can take 11 pictures a second. An advantage when trying to capture a railway train at 125mph for instance. I find the panorama mode for landscape particularly useful for squeezing everything in, although it has its limitations where architecture is involved. The app for remote control is another useful tool, enabling me to control my camera from my Galaxy S3 phone, and being able to see a live view on my phone. However there are some limitations in that some of the cameras functions are disabled in this mode.Continuos shooting for one! Sony really need to further develop this app to take advantage of everything the camera is capable of achieving. However i have purchased a third party remote which does fire the camera in continuos mode. The menu system is easy to navigate and understand as is the ability to alter settings quickly and customise the camera to my own preferences are another feature of this camera. I have owned this for a month now...and love it.

I bought this camera just over a month ago, would consider myself a keen amateur, I've shot a few weddings for friends, some portrait work and the usual holiday stuff. Previously owned a Sony A300, great Camera but 7years old and technology advances. A long road trip later this year meant time to upgrade.Having read numerous reviews my intention was to look at a specific Nikon that I had been considering for a couple of years now until during my research I came across the Sony A6000 and needed to find out what people were raving about.Having owned it now for a month and taken well over 1000 shots with it...I can honestly say I am blown away by the quality,I normally shoot in A mode and am stunned by the clarity of subjects...using auto modes also produces very good photos as my husband will verify on the one time I have let him near it!Focusing is super fast with this camera11 fps captured a friends 3 year old catching a balloon beautifully.Cannot really comment on recording mode as bought it as a Still camera.Have teamed it with Sony 28-200 LE for general use (read mixed reviews on lens but find it pretty good for everyday, hunts a bit occasionally but sort of expected that)No camera is perfect but this is pretty close especially at the price. If you are buying this camera plan on learning what it does via the internet....found 2 instruction booklets...1 50 pages long and a waste of time, second one is only suitable for insomniacs...long and boring but tons of good info on the internetWifi connection really easy and transfer is fast even with raw files.....Wish listBattery life is pretty dismal...need at least two batteries for a good days shoot.EVF- really useful but could be a bit betterwould like GPS.

After buying the A6000 we spent a cold, misty dull few days in the Forest of Dean getting to know it. This camera was purchased to add to the NEX 5n ( with optional viewfinder) that we already had. So we were looking for something with a built in viewfinder, controls for the primary settings, speed, aperture, etc. outside of the screen and a hinged screen. The only thing that the NEX had that we found very useful, that the a6000 has not got is the touch screen focussing. We found that the camera was easy to use and that is focussed in very closely, it was spring and the catkins were used to test the focus and the depth of field. This is where the touch screen would have come in useful as inevitably the camera focussed on the tree behind, but by changing the focus points in the menu in the end it worked. The start up time and the picture taking delay was very short, so you could switch off the power and then on again to take a shot reasonably quickly. The camera is a good physical size, a bit bigger than the NEX but smaller than the normal DSLR. Overall a very good camera for this price range and probably the best currently on the market. Annoying things: no touch screen ( but only if you have used one would you notice this ), card slot close to the door hinge, so taking a card in or out is fiddly, the NFC square is is the middle of the side and the same square on the Sony phones is in the centre of the back of the phone, so you cannot put one onto the other as the strap hooks get into the way. Having said that I have not used the NFC as we have a remote. I would certainly place the a6000 high on any list and am very happy with the purchase.

I love the camera in general, although there are a couple of little niggles I have about it. The first is that menus don't seem very intuitive. The bigger issue is 1) connectivity and live view availability with tethering. I bought the camera with the intention of using it almost purely for extreme macro photography, and was warned that tethering will be an issue with Sony cameras. That is of course true. No longer a problem as such because I have learned a fairly reasonable process now for image stacking without tethering. The biggest issue I have however is that the orientation sensor can't be stopped from writing information on the images. I imagine for most this won't be an issue, but for anyone doing vertical image stacking, it means that any slight fluctuation in the sensor alters the orientation of the images! This adds an extra job (sometimes made extremely frustrating because certain programs read different parts of orientation information- to make it worse, some batch rotation operations also only write information that changes one piece of orientation information that some programs read but others don't, so in those the image remains incorrectly oriented i.e. Zerene which is what I use for stacking). I have spent way too much time dealing with this, and the only way that seems the fastest method is to manually rotate the incorrect shots in camera. An average stack is over 100 shots and it is very tedious to keep having to do this all the time. Can you please please please, if nothing else, add something to the next firmware so that there's an option to turn the orientation sensor off? Please!

There are two inexcusable flaws in the basic design.Firstly, the rubber eye cup on the EVF is pitiful, if you have the camera on its strap it will be lost within moments. The tiny recess to 'secure' the eye cup just isn't up to the job.The second problem is the flush base of the camera - everything including the flip out screen is flush. When a tripod quick release plate is screwed to the camera, or the camera is fitted to a tripod, the screen becomes jammed onto the rubber of the tripod or quick release plate, when it is pulled out the bottom of the screen is embedded in the rubber / cork of the tripod. Even if the rubber is stiff, the screen moves down slightly and catches on the mounting surface..The NEX5 that I had before didn't have this problem, the tripod mount was on a lower level than the bottom of the screen.Using a camera on a tripod is an everyday thing, I have four tripods and probably five or six heads, the A6000 screen gets jammed on all of them. It's basic design, did anyone from Sony even try the camera on a tripod?Other than these two design flaws the camera is a joy to use. I have over 50 cameras, mostly film SLR's, and some DSLR's and now I use the A6000 almost exclusively, the size, convenience and above all the performance made it an informed choice for me over another DSLR. I still feel I made the right choice, for me, but the two simple design flaws are very disappointing. Would I recommend the A6000 to my photographer friends ? Yes, I do. And I whinge about the fact I keep losing eye cups and having to remember to pull the screen out before I mount it on a tripod.

I bought this as an upgrade from my 3 year old Sony Nex F3 which has given me years of pleasure. I only had to get the body as I have lenses already. The biggest problem I had was the battery life, after about an hour of using the menus to set up the camera to my preferences the battery needed a recharge, this was after fully charging before putting into the camera. I then left it overnight (fully charged) and by morning it was well below 70% charge left. Looking online I found this was a very common problem with this camera, it is necessary to put it into flight mode to shut down the WI-FI and NFC which drain the battery. Why they don't have on/off buttonsfor these two features like on any mobile smartphone I have no idea.Another culprit was the viewfinder/monitor, it is necessary to set display to monitor rather than auto, why this happens I have no idea but I have an EVF fitted to my Nex F3 and never had any battery problems when the camera was switched off. It seems that the on/off switch on this camera does NOT turn off all the loaded software. Strange.A software update is urgently required to address these problems so that WI-FI and NFC are OFF unless turned on by the owner and the camera off switch shuts down everything so that battery life can be utilised for taking photos. Given the high drain rate it is doubtful if transferring photos by WI-FI or NFC is even worth having, it would be quicker to remove SD card and use your computer especially if you have more than 50 photos to upload especially in the UK with the slow upload speeds available

Everybody (well not everybody) moans about the menu system. I don't find it bad, yes it takes a bit of hunting for some settings if you don't use them often but that's to be expected. The menu system is actually quite well laid out for the amount of information it holds.I don't do video so cant comment on that aspect, I do however take pictures. I am not a pro but can churn out good results and this camera is more than capable of producing some very nice pictures. you can crop heavy if you need to thanks to the 24mp. There is nothing I can really fault about the camera or the picture quality, its on par with my dslr. The downside to Sonys e-mount is the price of good glass, and the size of that good glass.however for most the kit lens will be more than enough. Having said that the 30mm Prime lens from sigma is fantastic and cheap and thats what i use 90% of the time. The issue with the sony is the play app is clunky and connecting my camera to the app is a pain in the side, so i just don't bother using it anymore. In summery, I love this camera, I nearly brought the rx100 mkiii but went for the larger sensor on the a6000 in the end and glad I did. in an ideal world i would have both (maybe one day) If I broke my a6000, I would replace it with another one! (I have dropped it while on holiday from a height while travelling at speed and it hit tarmac and luckily it still works fine however it no longer has a battery door as it snapped off, but it does show these cameras are really well built and durable.

I've had a number of 'compacts' which whilst size wise are 'to hand' in your bag, 'disappoint' compared to photos taken on a bigger 'basic' camera I have but often leave behind due to its size. A review in the Times described the A6000 as a compromise between the two (size vs quality) with the option to pop another lens on as and when. On further investigation I became torn between this and the smaller older Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100 III. I took a gamble and bought the A6000 (grey) the afternoon before going on holiday to the Valley of the Kings - just enough time to charge the battery! I know nothing about cameras/photography so it has not been off 'auto' yet. The workings otherwise were very easy to follow. Results seem excellent thus far albeit have yet to enlarge anything to be sure. Very happy. Autofocus v quick (shutter speed and write less so). Wifi connection to iPad impressive and avoids taking the SD card out. Less simple (and still struggling) with wifi link to computer so using the card/wire for that still! (operator error no doubt!). Now looking to purchase a larger SONY SELP18105G (zoom) lens for those times when compactness isn't an issue as again the reviews are very good on this combination. Overall I am very pleased as, at the end of the day, a camera you can pop in your bag gets taken out and is there when the opportunity arises whereas the bulkier camera is a more premeditated thing and stays at home. However quality wise you want more than snaps - this looks like it will deliver but early days yet!
