It has been years since I last had some gin, and then it was used as a mixer, so it was nice to open this bottle and instantly be hit by the smell of juniper. Of course gin is usually a drink served with tonic, or part of a cocktail, which most people know anyway, but when it first became popular here it was imbibed straight. Really with a good quality gin such as this this is how you should ideally drink it, with nothing added. Once you start adding other ingredients you are thus degrading and covering the real flavour of this, which is tantamount to sacrilege.Gin has really started to have a renaissance this century with more people coming back to this lovely drink.I have read an article about Sipsmith before but this is the first time I have tried any of their drinks. This admittedly will go nice with tonic or indeed a very good Martini (but only if you use other quality ingredients). Of course gin isn’t gin without the botanicals and in this case we have Macedonian juniper berries, Seville orange peel, Spanish lemon peel, Italian orris root, Spanish liquorice root, Belgian angelica root, Madagascan cinnamon bark, Chinese cassia bark, Spanish ground almond, and Bulgarian coriander seed, which in all give this a smooth and lively taste. At the moment I do have a bit of a cold so it isn’t perhaps the best time to be able to differentiate between all the subtleties when I sip this, but I am getting a clean slightly fruity taste with a peppery and spice hint which all tastes very fresh and cleansing. Because of my cold aroma wise all I am really getting is the juniper, but that smell is nice enough anyway. This is certainly a lovely London Dry Gin and is a pleasure for the taste buds, so why not give it a try? This would be ideal for someone who loves gin as a present, and also ideal to drink when you have guests.Gin can really be a lovely drink, so forget some of the bad things that have been said over the years and relax with a top quality drink. On another note this came very well packaged so don’t worry about ordering it here to be sent to you.

Fortunately, the positives have everything to do with the product itself, whilst the negatives have everything to do with the way Amazon sends you this product! This is a good Gin, smooth, nicely-tasting and everything. On that basis alone I would recommend it to all those who already drink Gin as a good example of a quality spirit. Actually, my endeavours in taste-testing this - purely in the interests of scientific research and objectivity of course - have taught me a lot about Tonic in the process. Schweppes Indian Tonic water is the perfect complement to this drink. Sainsburys' Diet Indian Tonic Water with Lime, however, is not. Eugh yuck - cheap and nasty! But that is by the by.As to the negatives - this does not actually say anything about the quality of the Gin, but it ought to tell you a lot about what you should expect if you choose to order it through Amazon. I was first alerted to the arrival of my consignment of Sipsmith Gin one morning when I heard angry voices shouting in the street outside my flat. Amazon's delivery driver had parked so atrociously that he enraged at least one motorist into suggesting that he emigrate to some country which is more tolerant of that kind of roadsmanship. At length, however, the driver was able to escape from getting into fisticuffs and delivered my package. ***It consisted of a large box, filled with stuffing, containing a smaller box, containing a sturdy airbag, containing the bottle itself.*** I therefore filled an entire recycling sack with the packaging for what is essentially a regular sized bottle of spirits. So the irony is that although I would certainly consider buying Sipsmith London Dry Gin again in general, I would think twice about ordering through Amazon!PS: this review was written under the influence of two large Sipsmith Gin & Tonics, just for authenticity's sake. :-)

Although whisk(e)y is usually my spirit of choice I do enjoy a G&T from time to time. Our drinks cabinet usually has some Beefeater or Bombay Sapphire on board but this year we have become a bit more adventurous with our gin selection and have added some Penderyn Brecon Botanicals from the Welsh distillery best known for it's whiskey and also some Monkey 47 from the distillery in the German Black Forest. I had seen a feature on the Sipsmith distillery on TV a while ago – possibly with Giles Coren – and was very pleased to be offered the chance to try some for myself. This Sipsmith is a classic London dry style gin, one of the few to still be actually produced in the capital; it uses 10 botanicals in its maceration: Juniper Berries,Coriander Seed, Angelica Root, Licorice Root, Orris Root, Ground Almond, Cassia Bark, Cinnamon, Orange Peel and Lemon Peel. This Sipsmith is a superior gin that is obviously produced by people who care about their products. It is presented in a distinctive embossed bottle and has a label featuring a stylised illustration of their German- built copper still, affectionately known as Prudence. As for the gin itself it is definitely one gin drinkers will want to try for themselves – if you have not tried Fever Tree tonic I would suggest that it compliments the Sipsmith gin perfectly, but perhaps also try with your regular tonic for a proper comparison with your usual gin. With Christmas just around the corner your drinks cabinet may need a bit of restocking – if you want a gin that will be a bit of a talking point amongst your guests then this Sipsmith London dry gin would be ideal. For a premium product that is produced by hand this gin is very reasonably priced – and it does taste very good too! Recommended to gin lovers everywhere.

Whether you'll enjoy this gin will depend on what type of gin you typically like best; if you're into "savoury" gins like Ophir, you'll probably think this is rank. If you're into floral or fruity gins, this may be too close to the Gordons end of the spectrum (though its definitely nicer than Gordons, like its more refined cousin!)Personally I'm a fan of citrus gins (Tanqueray n10 and Tanqueray Rangpur are my favourites) - and this gin promising citrus notes was what made me click on it when it showed in my vine queue. The bottle is pretty simple. It looks fine in with the other gins in my cabinet but not a standout - and thats kind of, to me,just like the taste; its a nice typical dry gin but nothing breathtaking. The flavour is heavy juniper berry with a smidge of generic citrus hint, and it makes a good G&T - but to me it was so similar to Gordons that I tested it blind with a friend, who thought "its a bit nicer... is there something different with the tonic?" - from this and my own opinion, I would say it's definitely better than Gordons, but so similar that unless you had an extremely sensitive palette, you probably wouldn't notice it as a different gin with a mixer.Neat, its very warming and does indeed have a smooth mouthfeel - kind of like a really good whiskey - it doesn't kick you in the face, but heats your throat - just in a more mellow and fragrant way than whiskey would. All in all - a nice gin, and probably one I would recommend as an introduction to someone who wasn't sure if they'd be a fan of gin - its basically pleasant, safe, and does have a great juniper flavour - but it's nothing outstanding or distinctive (to me anyway!)

I attended a lecture (with samples!) presented by Hendricks at the Brighton Festival a couple of years back and learned many interesting facts about gin, including that more new gin makers had set up in the last ten years than in the previous hundred which has to be good news for gin lovers everywhere! Sipsmith are one of these, and although not a distillery I have come across before, they clearly know what they are doing as this gin is quite simply delicious. This is a gin which you really want to savour and appreciate, and whilst I am not a fan of neat gin, you will definitely do much better if you don't swamp it with too much tonic as this will only be diluting the complex flavour. And a flavoursome mouthful it is too. It presents an interesting mix of flavours. The juniper is quite obvious, and I thought there were definite hints of orange peel, but most importantly it is a well balanced blend which works very well. At 41.6% it is strong, but not the strongest you can get. However, it is so flavoursome that you get the impression that it is significantly stronger.I like the more interesting gins such as Tanqeray and Bombay Sapphire mainly because the mixture of botanicals and herbs make for a much more interesting drink than basic London Dry Gin. Their more recent up market introductions - Bombay East and Tanqueray Ten are even better. However, Sipsmiths really knocks spots off both of these, and at a comparable price it is really no contest. My wife and were really impressed at the first glass, but felt obliged to try a second just to make sure!

First of all I want to make sure to all readers and potential purchasers that this is a review for Sipsmith LONDON DRY GIN as most of the other reviews I've seen on this page seem to be for different Sipsmith products.I'm not sure why Amazon has bundled together reviews for all of the Sipsmith products: London Dry Gin, Sloe Gin, Lemon Drizzle and London Cup, but from the other reviews on here that's definitely what has happened.Sipsmith London Dry Gin is an excellent gin. It's citrusy and fruity in the right proportions. As it's name suggests, it's a smooth, London type gin rather than an oriental type gin, and, in my humble opinion, that's what makes it so special. It's wonderful served with Fevertree tonic,as a long and refreshing drink with a lime or lemon wedge, and it's equally as good in cocktails like the White Lady and Negroni.Don't forget to get the Sipsmith Gin Cocktail book on Amazon too. Great book, great cocktail recipes, and good price!I hope I don't sound like I'm in some way affiliated with Sipsmith because I'm not. Just a Sipsmith gin lover. :-)Buy it when it's a good price!

I am a big fan of gin, which I typically drink neat. As a result I am very sensitive to quality - there is no hiding a bad gin when it is neat. For gin and tonic, on the other hand, I use supermarket own-label gin and invest in the tonic.Anyway, Sipsmith, which I have known of for ages, but never got around to trying - my gins of choice are the more interesting ones rather than a straight London dry - my last three purchases were Tanquaray No. 10, Ohpir and Ungava - and my expectation was that Sipsmith is just a very clean gin.And so it is. Indeed, possibly the best, and certainly the smoothest gin I have ever tasted. It is liquid gold on the palate and an absolute joy to drink.I find it to be a little too sweet for my personal taste, so if you prefer a little sharpness in your gin, then this might not be for you.As already mentioned, I prefer zesty, spicy or floral gins, so Sipsmith is not about to become my first choice gin, but I know a brilliant gin when I taste it and I would certainly buy this again.Five stars, without a hint of doubt.

With the number of different gins being produced today it seems like there's a resurgence of the 18th century Gin Craze. Many are trying to be novel and distinctive, even radical, in their flavourings with the botanicals employed, and whilst there's room for these we shouldn't lose sight of traditional gin. The blurb for this Sipsmith London Dry Gin sounds like this is exactly what they are trying to do.The first test of a good gin is to try it neat, as a quality gin should be able to be consumed that way - the fashion for tonic came about as a way of diluting the rough stuff to make it more palatable. This certainly passes the test, and it's definitely a traditional gin in that the flavour of juniper is to the fore - and after all gin must have juniper to be called gin - and it's definitely of the London Dry style as opposed to the many sweeter offerings around. The botanicals still come through very strongly with the addition of tonic. Certainly recommended for those who like a traditional gin.

Once through the outstanding level of packaging used by Amazon, comprising of two boxes, paper stuffing & an innovative air filled bottle jacket, you are presented with a stunning looking bottle complete with wax sealed pull out stopper & a nice bit of detailed information to the rear of the bottle.Smelling similar to my usual brand, Bombay Sapphire, tasting it neat reveals a much greater range of flavour & scents than many brands I have experienced. Pouring probably the equivalent of a quadruple measure, matched like for like with a regular tonic made for a very enjoyable, substantially different Gin drinking experience - more aroma during & after drinking,no lingering artificial aftertaste and a desire to have " just one more " more than once during the evening ! If you like Gin, you haven't tasted Gin until you have had Sipsmith. Whether it's the copper still, the handmade process or the fact it's made in small batches, its worth it.

At first sight, this bottle of gin is a thing of beauty. The heavy waxed seal; the thick, raised detail glass; and the beautiful label, with detailed botanical drawings; the individual batch number; they all show that a lot of thought and care has gone into this Gin.Sipsmith Gin is handmade in Copper pans, and been carefully crafted. What results, is a London Dry Gin that is smooth, alive, and an absolute joy to drink. The first scent is a joy, a real moment to anticipate the first mouthful. I prefer to savour these flavours so opted to omit my usual lime wedge, and mixed simply with chilled Feverfew tonic. Lovely. A drink to savour and enjoy at anytime a really good G&T is needed. At 41.7% abv,it's a decent strength without the harsh raw alcohol burn of some less intelligently distilled spirits. Great value for the quality.Highly recommended, perfect gift to give or to receive.

Sipsmith's London Dry Gin is a great value for money, classy gin, containing ten botanicals that give a slightly citrusy, whilst floral taste. Sipsmiths are proud that their botanicals come from all across the world; the full ten are:Macedonian Juniper BerriesSeville Orange PeelSpanish Lemon PeelItalian Orris RootSpanish Liquorice RootBelgian Angelica RootMadagascan Cinnamon BarkChinese Cassia BarkSpanish Ground AlmondBulgarian Coriander SeedObviously, I don't think you can taste all of these, but it may well be the combination that creates the winning and distinctive formula for a delicious gin and tonic. This definitely tastes different to the usual brands such as Gordon's and Bombay Sapphire, and even Tanqueray, with much more 'aroma' and a smoother taste on the palette especially considering the price. And a little goes a long way - I can't wait to enjoy more G&Ts!

This gin is made for the connoisseur of this unique spirit and is made in a small London distillery using traditional methods, in small batches.Immediately when opening the box you can tell this is a quality product and the bottle shape and label scream class and style. The smell when it is uncorked is subtle and when poured with a touch of tonic it tastes wonderful. I’m not a huge drinker of gin (whiskey has always been my spirit of choice), but this makes a delicious drink and my wife loved a gin and tonic made with this.I think due to the company’s unique history and product presentation this would make a delightful gift for someone who truly knows their gin and whether you are a regular drinker or a relative new comer like me,you can still appreciate the subtle flavouring and aroma. Well worth a try.Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

Had a few swallows of chilled neat for a starter. Pleasant mouth feel, a bit of a tingle over the lips, and a warm tum. But could not drink it neat except for this review. Made negroni and it did not stand out over the campari - just a nice cocktail. Did better as a G&T with Fevertree tonic (all G&Ts need a good tonic and not a supermarket own brand or one of the top sellers which are, in my opinion, only adequate). This is a very nice gin - not harsh as some cheaper gins and with subtle fragrance from its botanicals. Debatable whether worth the high price, in my opinion - I have a better understanding of malt whisky than gin - and I am happy with several brands that don't cost as much.If it's role is to be a mixer then one would have to be a real expert to find the value in this brand when there are artisan gins that work well and are not as expensive.

I'm a huge gin fan, having started off with Gordon's and Tanqueray, and then discovering Sloe Gin also.I regularly try and test out new varieties at Food & Drink Shows also, and my current favourite is one called Bathtub Gin, available from Amazon. This Sipsmith has however really surprised me, and is at least as good as the Bathtub Gin, if not better.Fabulously smooth, with definite citrus notes but a background of florals and spice that delicately tease you long after you've swallowed.Came exceptionally well packaged too, (well done Amazon) it was encased in an air-filled jacket, in a sturdy box, within another larger box packed out with filler.I know, we sometimes complain about excess packaging, but when you're buying something like this online, it's reassuring to know it will arrive safe and sound !!

A dry gin, with some hints of citrus on the nose and palate along with juniper. The taste is much straighter than some other well known brands, making this a perfect mixer rather than for straight gin & tonic.I'm not sure why you would ever buy the smaller form bottle over the 75cl, unless you give it is as a gift for a gin loving friend and don't want to spend. A measure is either 25 or 35ml, so you really are looking at only 14-10 cocktails drinks from one bottle (assuming these are singles only). If you aren't sure and want to try it first, many reputable bars in London will stock it so it isn't hard to find, outside of London you might want to order this bottle.Between 4 of us we finished this bottle off in one evening with 3 long drinks each, some having doubles.
