I've been saying it for ages "We need a game where you have psychic powers that are totally kick ass" and then suddenly we have two at once. Psi-ops and Second Sight.I won't be doing a comparison since in my limited time and budget i have only experienced Second Sight, but i can safely say that i haven't had this much fun in a game for a good long while.You play John Vattic, a brutal murderer and dangerous criminal (apprently), trouble is, you don't remember the hows or whys of how you became like this, or more importanly, why you possess the aforementioned kick-ass psychic powers. The game's out of sync timeline has you progressing through your escape in the present, and, as scraps of your memory return,playing through flashbacks of the failed military mission that got you where you are now! This allows for a fluctuation in play as you flit between your current state of psychic desolation and the military gunplay of the flashback missions. This variety in gameplay is very welcome and keeps you from relying entirely on either guns or your psychic abilities, but rather a healthy mix of both.Of course the game would be nothing without the psychic abilities and these gradually increase in number and potency as you progress. They also range widely from healing yourself, to telekenesis (moving objects from a distance, including enemies), right through to devastating psychic blasts and possession of enemies. As you progress you learn to utilise these abilities to keep yourself from getting shot, stuck, or most importantly, bored.Graphically the game is nothing special, although the graphics are of a high quality. The look of the game is very good with a semi-cartoon feel that was present in 'Timesplitters'.The major problem is that the game can actually be pretty easy because once you've figured out how to fully utilise your psychic powers to clear the way ahead, you're left with little to prevent you from hammering your way through the whole game. An adjustable difficutly setting and some slight differentiations in available routes help to provide some longevity, but you can't help but feel that a multiplayer would have really spruced this game up and made it something really special instead of just something different.Overall this is a fun gaming experinece and you will enjoy it whilst it lasts, just don't expect it to last all that long (about as long as you can continue to be entertained by throwing around bad guys off blaconies with telekenesis). Go on - Free your mind!

Free Radical have outdone themselves with this beauty. The story will blow you away. You play John Vattic. You wake up with amnesia and then...Well,I'd spoil the surprise! You have five psychic powers: telekinesis (lift stuff up),Psi-blast(knock enemies to the ground),Projection (Control a virtual John), Charm(Calm friends and become invisible) and healing(Use this on you and others. Speaks for itself really). In the present day, you have to usually rely on being stealthy (Hide in lockers to shake the heat), but in the flashbacks you don't have your powers, but you can let rip with weapons. The sniper rifle is the best in a game ever, as it automatically targets enemies and you use the right stick to tweak shot direction.You can also 'fix' things in present time during flashbacks by stopping a girl from dying, then she'll fight for you in the present. Not only do you discover psionic abilities, but you upgrade them (Super psi explosion, using telekinesis on people and possesion, anyone?) If you've played the Timesplitters games, you'll notice the carachter models are similar. Seriously, John could have accidentally been shot by Sergeant Cortez and fallen off the 'Splitters set and landed in the middle of the flashback scenes' operation 'WinterICE'. But it's also very funny. When John tries to guess a computer's password, he enters 'idontknow', '12345678', 'noidea' and 'luckyguess', whereas he finds out that the passwords are 'SNOW' and 'Mad2Bhere' (as in 'mad to be here'). The only downers are it's a bit short, there's no real incentive to replay the levels, there's no multiplayer, the opject physics (just walk into a chair and it'll fly unrealistically across the room), the camera angles: fixed position, third person and first person (which you can't move in) and the box art, as it makes it look like a survival horror game. But despite these, Second Sight is a classic. The graphics and sound are groundbreaking, and the computers work just like real ones (mouses, games, chat boxes, screensavers, the lot). People who prefer action and using guns and abilities stimultaneously should go for Psi-Ops, which is a bit more fun than this. In my opinion, go for Amazon's perfect partner special offer.

Theres 2 ways you can play this game, run in shooting psi powers blazing, or stealth it up, sneaking past enemies and using psi powers to help you do it. Option 1 will get you killed quickly and repeatedly.If you prefer option 1 don't buy this game, cus you will get bored of option 2 very quickly.If option 2 sounds appealing read on.The main feature of the game is the Psi powers, initially all you have is 'telekinisis' you can move opjects about with this, you can use it as a weapon and whack enemies with chairs and stuff, but its pretty slow, so not your first choice.you'll quickly obtain 'healing' guess what that does! and 'psi attack' another easy one there and 'charm'which allows you to sort of appear invisible so long as you don't get too close and don't touch anybody. those are the only powers iv uncovered so far but i believe there are more.There are also a plethora of weapons available (in the flashback missions in particular, but im not giving away the story!'The grahics are pretty impressive, especially the ones related to psi powers, blue energy waves emit from your hand for telekinisis, the scenery warps when you psi attack and your form becomes all fuzzy.The voice overs aren't partiularly great, but the main characted stands out above the rest. the music and sound effects both good up to scratch.The control system is not bad, is quite responsive and favours the L and R buttons over the shapes, which i actually prefer, mite not be to everyones taste.all in all its a fun game, but for the thinking stealthy warrior rather than the all out gunner.

This is one of the best games available. When I started the game I wasn't too sure if it was my sort of thing (I am none-too-keen on stealth games like Hitman and Splinter Cell), but how wrong I was. The psychic abilities are superb and you find yourself wanting to levitate the Playstation 2 while playing the game. I think I used Projection and Healing the most. Telekenesis is a great ability, especially when you get to levitate and "throw" the bad guys.The story unfolds at just the right pace (you don't find out who is behind what is happening in the game until quite near the end) and the missions are different enough to keep you interested. The graphics aren't the best,but who cares about graphics when a game is this good.The level of problem solving is just enough to keep it challenging, without being too taxing. In my opinion the only faults of the game is the slight annoyance towards the end of jumping from past to present and so forth as you learn your origins and the later missions being relatively long without a save point (which is via autosave).I would strongly disagree with several other reviewers that complain about the length of the game (if the game was longer it would be boring, I don't know what sort of game they are used to, but it was just right for me).Buy this game for the great abilites and for being able to posess the bad guys and shoot your fellow thugs.I am now going to open my sealed copy of Psi-Ops, hopefully it will be different enough to Second Sight....?

This game is mighty fine indeed.You wake up in a reasearch facilty your lying on a bed and your hands are chained to the bed.You brake the chain with a strange power. You stand up not knowing how you are,why your here,what date it is,wondering how you broke the chains and why you are in an isolation cell. That is how second sight begins and trust me it gets so good I am trying to type and play it at the same time. Second sight is a mix of stealth,gunplay and cool psyco powers which are invisibilty which is called charm,telekinesise gives you the power to lift and move objects including humans,psi blast which shoots a powerful force,projection which lets you posses anyone even your team mates in the winter ice army missions,healing and i think thats all of them.You can complete this mental-jigsaw in a weekend BUT THIS GAME IS ENTHRALLING FROM START TO FINISH! Second sight has something for everyone and of course its good for christ sake its made by the time splitters boys![time splitters 2 is class buy that too!]

Coming out at the same time as PSI-OPS a game of a similar vein and nature, Second Sight had to prove itself in a unusual field. Although lots of games series had used psyhic powers as a gameplay element in the past (legacy of kain etc) few had used it as such an essential part of the gameplay. Thankfully, Second Sight integrates stealth, psychic powers and 3rd person shooting in a fluid and enjoyable mix. The plot is enjoyable if not wholly original, and provides an incentive to keep moving. Although tricky to pick up, the use of psychic powers becomes second nature very quickly, and the other gameplay elements are also well put together. It's not without it's problems however- unusually for a PS2 title it has a slight tendancy to crash,and is a little short, however as a budget purchase (which by now it pretty much is) its a very good buy. Thoroughly recommended.

This is the game we've ben waiting for. This is the kind of game that other developers will play and adore,as you will, and produce a thosuand rip offs. This is the real deal. Hurling poor enemies around and in to walls is now one of my favourite hobbies. Also where other games fail, this succeds in achieving a motion picture espue script, excellently crafted cut-seens and believable characters. The story reaches out and pulls you into an edge of your seat experiance. The gameplay is what playing videogames is meant to be like. The graphics donate to the ultr-enjoyable journey. In a few words, this game is so perfect. It has everything you'd want, no matter what games you like.Decent duration,working storyline, plenty of good solid originality. Work of perfection. Note to developers if theyre reading, if a sequel is in the works, John Vattic should be able to fly.

Over all I thought that this games major forte was the story line and the introduction of new skills and phycic powers, The stelth and gunplay aspects were also very good and if you like a game with a complicated plot then this is deffinetly for you. However if your interested in a poinless shoot 'em up such as quake, then perhaps not. The graphicsare also good and the game keeps a good record of statistics which are intresting and you can also repeat levels to improve upon yourself. phycic powers and controls in general are slightly difficult to get used to but are very effective once you get used to the controls.This is deffienetly a great game although before you commit to spending heaps on it,it could be worth renting for a night or two, just to see if its "your thing".

i had played the demo at first but then i got the real game for my birthday. And it was AMAZING these are your powers1.telekinesis (lifting things up including humans but you have to get further through the game to lift people up)2.healing (can heal other people on certain levels)3. charm (going invisable)4.psi attack (firts just a little blast then life a force feild blast when get upgraded5. projection (copying yourself)6. possesion (going into people bodies and controling them)7. psi blast (uknown havent got the power yet)the storylinejohn vattic wakes up one day experimated on and wakes up to have powersdifficulty: averagegraphics: 8/10gameplay: 9/10lifespan:8/10sound: 8/10note: (you canalso use guns)this is a must buy game total score: 9/10

Second sight came out around the time of Psi-ops, which seems to have a very similair premise to this one.In both you can use either guns or psi abilities. And in both you start with little to no memory of what has happened to you.However out of both I have to say that the less advterised one Second Sight is by far the better.The gameplay is addictive, in which you will want to learn more new abilities and master them, rather than using guns and other weapons like other games.With a storyline that can keep you hooked and a good twist in it, this is a truly enjoyable game.However the one downside is that it is quite easy to beat,but you can always go back to improve how well you did on a level.All in all a totally enjoyable game

I bought this game by chance as I needed a new game to keep me entertained before the glut of new games prior to Christmas.What a GEM! Like the previous reviewer the powers are awesome and handle superbly giving an overwhelming sense of freedom as you throttle a guard like Darth Vader. This game really was an unforgettable experience. The story was incredible, the choice between action and stealth and the freedom to solve problems in different ways was fantastic. It also refreshing to have a real anti-hero to play as rather than a gun blazing macho bod. At 10hours game time my only gripe is that there is not enough.Please...everybody buy this game. I want to play a sequel.

This is a game of tinkering. Do i pick the guy up and chuck him, shoot him in the head or become invisable and skip past him.On that basis alone its wonderful.The graphics are timespliterish, which isnt a bad thing, its individual and rather lovely on the eye.You quickly get used to the controls, which most buttons do something.The differculty is quite hard unless you play smart with your abiltys.Only drawbacks is that you want more, on a personal note i dont like the way you choose missions from the main menu rather then having a grand flowing story, but these are minor quibbles.A great game.

this is a great mixture of sneaking around, splinter cell style, if you want to, but when things go wrong you can take on large numbers of guards and hold your own. the character is nicely unwitting to what is going on, so he's likeable. as the game unfolds the new powers you discover are cool too. it's got a well achieved atmosphere and it's pretty easy to do well on, so satisfying. i suppose hard core gamers might find it too easy but the you can just do the harder level i guess. best game i've seen in a long time, i bought 5 at once and it's the only one i've been playing.

I could do the norm and mention the storyline and all the powers you get, but it's better you not know and simply see the possibilites this game possesses.Frequently throwing enemies your way, you must use a plethora of psychic powers which prove to be highly useable and very fun.The storyline is pretty good, graphics are smooth and reminiscent of Timesplitters as is the framerate, which never slows, even with all the action around.If you enjoyed possessing sligs, glukkons and scrabs as Abe, then you will love this diverse and innovative game.

This game is an awsome game. If you like the timesplitters games you will really like this. You are a man called vattic and you have been caught by this medical lab. You have to get out of this place and find a lot of people. All of the levels have new characters and you find different guns on the way. It is a game worth buying. It is a game that you can stay on for hours
