The hardware seems excellent so far. No drivers required as it seems to be recognised (including by non-Windows operating systems) as a standard USB keyboard (and presumably a standard USB mouse as well, though I haven't checked). However, software *is* needed to configure which keys the switches act as. Windows software is provided on a CD-R - there's no installer, the install procedure is "copy it to a folder on your hard disk".The software is slightly confusing, and the instructions are no help. What you need to know before buying - the configuration seems to be stored in the device itself. Reconfigure on one machine, move to another, and the configuration moves with you. That configuration doesn't know or care what operating system or software you're running. IOW this doesn't adapt to particular games or anything. The best thing is to configure it once to something sensible, then adjust your game configurations to suit. The default configuration mapped the buttons to the keys 1, 2 and 3 (possibly keypad, but I don't know). This is slightly awkward for me as I didn't buy it for games, and while the software I bought it for can be reconfigured, there's no way I'd change how it responds to a real keyboard just to suit this. Still, there is a sensible configuration, and if I use it for games as well they can certainly be configured to suit.In the software, there's a button that possibly is meant to read the existing configuration. That didn't seem to work, so maybe I'm misunderstanding. With only three buttons to configure, that's not a big deal. There's a 1/2/3 selection that seems to choose how many of the buttons you can configure now for some bizarre reason. The boxes where you configure which keys-combos etc seem a bit temperamental, e.g. they don't always register the left-button-press to select and configure or right-button-press to clear. The "save" button sends the new configuration to the device. The issues don't matter to me - there's not that much to configure and you're probably not going to change that configuration often so the software doesn't need to be that good.Perhaps more important - not all mouse buttons can be imitated. Only mouse buttons 1 and 2 can be imitated - not the middle button or thumb buttons. I haven't checked whether all keys register. The software has some checkboxes for "group keys" (Shift, Ctrl, Alt). The instructions make no sense and I haven't figured out what these checkboxes are for. Maybe buttons can have multiple functions depending on keys you're pressing at the time? I'm not sure how that would work given that the computer seems to see the device as a standard keyboard, so it shouldn't know what you're doing with your actual keyboard. The button configurations recognise combos including Shift, Ctrl and Alt without using these checkboxes, so it's not that.Anyone who doesn't have a convenient Windows machine will have a problem - and there are suggestions online that the software doesn't even work on Windows 10. I don't use Win10 so haven't tried - for me, being unable to find software to configure it in Linux is obviously expected but inconvenient. I have a couple of Windows 7 machines, a couple of XP machines and even a Win98 machine so this is not going to be a problem for me, but esp. as Windows 7 gets rare so maybe you don't even know a local geek who has it, most people could have major headaches reconfiguring this.

Update: over 3 years on... STILL FANTASTIC, made transition to Windows 10 without issue. Software is not the easiest, but works, and new version apparently coming any day now.Original review - 5* Fantastic, quality product that works exactly as described. With some nasty carpal tunnel issues, but still being determined to game, I was looking for something that let me restrict the finger movement I need in FPS games like CounterStrike and Payday2.The construction is reassuringly solid, and can take the abuse you'd expect from being used by feet in an FPS... extreme. It emulates a keyboard (HID) and the pedals can be "programmed" to whatever character you want (F V G for me) and you can substitute clicks and macros. This is however a bit convoluted and tedious so I tend to remap my games rather than reprogram the device.I use left and right instead of "action keys" (eg F and G in standard Payday2 layout) witht eh middle button bound to voice comms PTT.Excellent - wouldn't be without it, and the extra cost over more flimsy copies is well worth it.Windows 7 tested!

Totally worth the extra money over the cheap plastic ones. If you will be using it a lot you need to get this one.I knock a star off because they are too heavy to press out of the box in my opinion, i don't want to start getting leg RSI instead of wrist. That said it was relatively easy to unscrew the pivot pins, remove the top and cut a turn and a half off each spring with some wire cutters. I added a bit of thin felt under the top to stop it clicking when it touches the base at the end of its travel and i now have almost silent pedals i can press with just a slight movement of my big toe. I guess if someone was using these with shoes on in a different setting the heavier pressure might be about right, its not stupidly heavy just more than i needed it to be,If you are using win 10 64bit follow this link for software that is super easy to use to set the pedals commands to either left/right mouse or any key combo. Good looking product and solidly constructed. It is very heavy and the rubber feet mean it cant slide around on either carpet or a solid surface. After reading another review on here i decided i wasn't even going to try and get the software working on windows 8, instead i set it up on a windows 7 machine (no install required, just an executable) and then plug it into the windows 8 machine once set up.It works very well and does exactly as its supposed to, the only negative is that on the box it is advertised as the "silent version"This is most definitely not the case, it has a very loud clack as the pedals bottom out, even on carpet.Think mechanical keyboard but 3 times louder.I can live with this for now however it could really do with a rubber damper or something at the bottom of the stroke to dampen the sound, which i will be looking to add for myself in the future

The construction is metal, with rubber pads over the pedals. The product is quite a heavy, substantial piece of kit so it doesn't slide around under your feet. The internal switches are optical sensors that pick up the movement of a metal shutter on the underside of the pedal so there are no switch contacts to go wrong. (It's possible to easily dismantle the pedals to examine the interior - in my book that's a big plus)The springs under the pedals are rather strong and it takes some effort to press them down. But the springs could be changed or even trimmed a little if anyone finds this a problem. The software supplied is rather basic and the instructions are poorly written but it does work (tested under Win 7)and it allows you to set the three switches to duplicate any key on the keyboard. I am using it to control certain avatar actions in Guild Wars 2 :)

I bought this 6 years ago and have used it pretty much constantly while gaming. It still works pretty much perfectly. Amazing durability to be honest. The software has some issues, though. First, make sure you get the right software, you need the one named LALA For English 2.32 for this version of the pedal. Secondly, you need to make sure you have no Logitech devices on your system; if you do, you'll be unable to use the software as the device will no longer be recognised. Not sure if this is Logitech's fault or Scythe's. I have to plug the device into my laptop every time I want to change the settings.

The USB Foot pedal is well built and robust and it is easy to set up the Key Presses that each pedal produces using the supplied utility. We have been using it with the 'Simply Worship' software package to allow the worship leader/guitarist to control when to project the next verse and the next song.

Working as expected on Win10 x64 by downloading latest configuration program from their support forum. Config utility has issues if there are other HID drivers installed (logitech for instance). Quality is very good. Recomended

Brilliant product. Replaced a dual footswitch which needed an interface box and was always a bit hit or miss. Feels sturdy and well made. Would definitely recommend it.

Works fine on Win10 Pro but unplug all USB items and re-boot with only this plugged in to program. Then use as you please.

15.11.2018

It arrived just one day later than I was told. It is a robust unit that worked out of the box. It was easy to set up.

25.6.2017

Easy to set up and use, can fail to register at times but 99% accurate.

17.4.2015

Excellent
