I am also baffled about the bad reviews this game is getting by the customers at amazon. Firstly, the professionals really like this game. ign.com gave Rugby 08 8.2/10 and Gamespot.com gave the game a solid 7.0/10. I strongly agree with them because this game plays well. The negatives of the game are very frustrating if you want a rugby game which is up to the standards of Fifa in the case of licensing and getting the players' stats right. For example, Chabal has a higher goal kicking rating than David Skrela of France! Nick easter has a poor rating of 51 and Dan hipkiss also has a poor rating and is listed as a New Zealander. Olly Barkley and Nick Abendanon aren't in the Bath side.National sides like Fiji do not have the players licenced and this is true for the French reserves with Michalak's name being spelt Mallack. Other negatives involve the animation of rucks, where sometimes players don't even go into the ruck even when you "bind" them. There are sometimes glitches and the Lions tour has been removed. Tournements also take up quite a bit of space on the memory card. You really have to fiddle with the starting 15 for England as its obviously been put together way before the world cup. Gomarsall isn't in the team nor Ben Kay.Despite all this, it is actually a very good rugby game. The rugby gameplay is very fun especially the set plays such as a crosskick, a dummy switch to break the defensive line, or a "pocket" for a drop goal with Wilkinson. Many players look like they do in real life and the commentary is also good. The new kits for the national teams look stylish and modern adding a realistic feel to the game. The Rugby world cup, 6 nations, guiness premiership, super 14, tri-nations, European trophy, and world league are all here. There is a challenge mode to re in act moments of past world cups although you have to use current teams in the 1987-2003 world cups.Overall, If you are a rugby fan or a new rugby fan this is a great game to get because its fun, mostly realistic with good graphics, giving you the oppurtunity to play with your favourite players. The best moment of the game so far has to be an offload to Paul Sackey breaking a tackle, then scoring a try in the world cup final.

EA are very well known for their ability to snap up any sports license known to man, and yet with all the money and expertise they supposedly ploughed into the presentation of this game, they are way off the mark. For a start,(and I know it's been mentioned countless times before but I'll mention it anyway) the stats are all wrong. Juan Martin Hernandez, recognised by many to be one of the world's best players gets a 75, and is listed as a wing, as opposed to the top class fly half he really is. Chabal gets a 78, Dave Strettle a 66, Andy Farrell an 84. Why? Farells hopelees! More vexing still, is the name's, everyone in France bar, the national squad has completely ridiculous names,Dominici is "Domino", Betson is "Baston" and Jauzion becomes "Jezebel." Perry Freshwater apperas in the England side as Freshaqua, ludicrous. Dan Parks appears to be black, Wilkinson isn't in the England side, and Francois Steyn of South Africa gets a 50 for kicking power, even though he landed a 50 metre penalty against England in the final, these are all elementary errors, and I'm sure a lot of rugby fans will be infuriated by this. But yet the gameplay is suprisingly good, tackles are meaty, the AI are no longer the mindless automatons they were, and on the highist difficulty levels the game can be challenging. Old gripes do remain though, and including the uncharacteristically poor presentation from EA, they've also forgotten to sort out the over effective grubber kick. I scored a try on elite with Joe Worsley by grubber kicking all the way down the field, which would'nt happen in real life, I assure you. They've also gotten rid of the old camera angles, a wierd move, and the line-outs have been over-simplified, although this can be changed. So apart from the dreadful stats and positions, Rugby 08's actually quite good, whether you can see past that is up to you.

Rugby 08 is a good PS2 game and is the best Rugby game there is (in my opinion).Pros:Improved KickingFluid GameplayGood Set Plays which include Pocket, Cross Kick, Miss and Dummy SwitchChallenge Mode which allows you to play in Historic Matches and complete objectives to earn rewards.World Cup 2007 Mode - Play in the 2007 Rugby World CupGood SoundtrackCons:Line-outs - although line-outs being called not straight at random times is realistic, it can be infuriating as it seems to happen at crucial times in matches (eg. when you have a line-out in the opponents 22 in the closing moments)Slow Menus - selecting and changing players can be such a bore because of how long it takes to go down through a list of playersLack of Realism in certain teams - Some teams such as Fiji,Samoa and Tonga aren't licensed (N.Little for example is called N.Large in the game). Also, even teams such as Italy and Argentina have players who have too low ratings and there is a bias in ratings towards British teams and Ireland. Argentina and Italy have one star player between them while Wales and Ireland have 4 or 5.Overall, despite it's flaws, Rugby 08 is well worth buying although maybe now it's worth waiting until the next EA Sports Rugby game comes out.

This game is very good, the graphics are brilliant, the gameplay is fantastic and the sound is great. Overall a good game, but there are some things you should know.1.The game is still quite difficult even on the easiest level of difficulty.2.Some of the kickers and choices for different teams are a bit weird e.g For England, Jonny Wilkinson is not on the team,so you assume that the replacement fly-half will be taking the kicks but it is actually Mike Catt. Now Mike Catt is not a bad kicker but it seems a bit unusual to have him kicking.3.The ratings for teams are a bit strange. e.g France are rated 92 while England and South Africa 89.The Australians are also rated 90.On the whole this game is excellent but for a new comer to these rugby games, the manual needs to be read throughly.

I first got this game as soon as it came out. Grand Theft Auto 3 went second in my pile and boom no longer was I engulfed and addicted to killing people but had a craze to smash rugby players up with ferocious hits. The amazing range of teams is great and I found myself completing the world cup with Nambia. There were clubs and countries competing for fame that i hadn't even heard of.An incredible option is World League. You take control of a division 3 club and have to work your way up to the premiership by buying and selling awful and amazing players. If you want a good game buy this.If you want to be stretched to your death defying limit then go away.

The new Rugby 08 is briliant! The positives about the game are:It has very good grafics. It has realistic tackles. It's got nice flowing gamplay. The Negetivs of the game are:There is no real manager/carrer mode. Most of the player (Cipriarny for EX.) are out of date and not what there stats should be.The biggest negitive about the game is if you are a real rugby player or just know all the rules DON'T buy and play this game. There are lots of small but important rules that are missing like: If you carge down a kick all players are onside but on the game players that are offside stay offside.Overall this is a great game I rate it 4 out of 5

08 is better than 06 because of better gameplay. The fluidity of the game has improved and come closer to real rugby. The flaws pointed out by reviewers are there but I find that 08 is a good evolution from 06 (clearly not a revolution)What has not been fixed is the management of tackles and rucks which is still mainly a random process. For me the next version of the game (09 or 10) has to concentrate on this. For rugby lover I recommend buying the game as there is no competition any longer in terms of rugby game (Rugby challenge was a flop and it does not seem that new versions will be launched)

i bought this game only a couple of days back, and i personally think that rugby 08 is a good game!it has all the games modes as rugby 06, but the lions tour has been dropped, which is a disappointment.a great new feature is the rugby challenge mode, where u can recreate famous matches from each world cup! winning platnium medals allows u to win rewards.u cannot ramdomise the world cup pools, like u could do on rugby 06, so that is a shame! but the graphics make up for it, with the kicking controls being easier!overall, i think anyone who wants to buy rugby 08, should.

its a great game but a little boring after a while.worth getting 06 as the gameplay is extremely similiar and it's a lot cheaper. The kits are more updated though on 08 and some features like dropkicks are better then 06overall good game worth getting, but if your after a rugby game and not too bothered about kits, get 06 its a lot cheaper and very similar.

i think ots a brilliant game with great graphics. It's probably the best rugby game about so why are people giving it low ratings. Finally you get to play as quins(my favorite team).ok,there are some things like if you hold down the sprint button in a ruck you pass it to a forward but apart from that its a bril game

Rugby 08 is one of the best games out there, it is much better than previous games and its much more updated. The gameplay is great, I love the pass off, the only problem with the gameplay is the lineout which is a bit stupid. And Stephen Jones is in it, he is just not on Wales or Scarlets team...

This game is insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is miles better than 06, because gameplay's amazing, graphics are amazing. If anyone says that it's bad then they're crazy, or are complete ps2 geeks who hate any type of sport!! So i reccomend you buy this game, cos its the best game ever.

3.10.2007

Why are people giving this game bad reviews. The only wierd thing is that Wilkinson isnt in the England team! Apart from this, the world cup, 6 nations, tri nations etc are all really good.

27.12.2007

the graphics are fantastic and the realism of the game is amazing. mind you i dont think france should have a overall of 92 when england and south africa have an overall of 89. !5/5!

EA Sports expanded their sports titles with a Rugby title, and I'll be honest - its not that easy, but I guess I need to play it more to get more enjoyment out of it!
