My current favourite stapler is the Rapesco Spinna which has a very similar design to this Rexel Optima 40. They are both the same size and share the same kind of staple loading system - you press a button down at the heel and a bar pops out at the front that you fill with as many staples as it will hold - quite a lot, which means you only rarely need to refill it.The Rexel Optima 40 weighs 571 grams when full of staples, while the Rapesco Spinna weighs only 419. I think this is because the Rexel has more metal as the means of construction, and the rubber top and bottom - which smell a bit like a bonfire that you've thrown a disused car tyre onto.In the product photo the orange strip on the Optima looks nice,

As a lecturer I have suffered the diktats of the Department of Education ministers and minions. Whilst this particular stapler is not the most attractive, particularly in terms of the very boxy finish, it is a perfect example of why looks shouldn't be used as a method of deciding on the usefulness of a product before trying it out.I tested this stapler with 26/6mm staples i.e. the staples which are probably the most common ones available and the stapler was able to punch through a 64 page catalogue (effectively 32 double sided pages) with absolutely no difficulty at all. Whilst the paper will be slightly thinner than the average printer paper, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be able to staple up to 40 pages of 80g/sm.To test the reliability of this stapler,

This thing feels solid as a tank. It's heavy, in a good way. It seems made to high tolerances; all the bits fit together precisely, without much give. It makes a satisfying crunch when you staple something. If I were paper, I'd be afraid. Get it.Why am I here? I've owned and eventually been irritated by at least a dozen staplers. They would all start life reliable enough for a couple pages, but already bit dodgy when you had more than that to staple. Eventually they'd enter this phase of long lingering death, where they could hardly staple anything without misfiring. The worst thing is always your own denial about it. You keep thinking it's your fault. Maybe I loaded the staples wrong?

we have collected about 4 different staplers over the years and each has been ok to staple a couple of papers. I ended up buying this because I wanted a heavy duty stapler. Something that would use standard clips, something that could take a pounding from continuous use and something that felt weighty and substantial in your hand and something that could clip together a bunch of papers when required.It really is a thing of wonder! I've thrown away the rest of the staplers I've collected and kept this one because I know it will last. It just makes life easier and helps your workflow if you have a bunch of papers to staple together .

My old desk stapler was starting to show it's age, chewing up staples & generally misbehaving. I don't believe in buying cheap office equipment, it inevitably ends in tears & destruction. I've used Rexel stuff before & it's always been up to the job. I was sold on this one due to the full strip capability.Arrived & was a bit surprised by the size of it - if you've read my other reviews, you'll know that I have a bit of a habit of ordering stuff that turns out to be bigger than anticipated. Yet another one!!! Not as bad as the hole punch & 120 sheet stapler - but larger than the one it's replacing. It's almost 8" long & is a solid piece of kit. You would have thought that staplers were fairly straightforward and that no instructions were needed. Well, call me stupid but I really struggled to work out how to load the staples (1,000 staples are supplied but are tucked away at the bottom of the box so look out for them!)). I eventually worked out that you need to press down the black piece at the back which shoots the cartridge forward. However, this was after I had managed to mishandle it and detach the black bit which took me a little while to work out how to reattach. I was left with a tiny spring which goes, I know not where but does not seem to detract from the operation.Anyway, staples loaded it's a pretty good stapler.

This 'Rexel Optima 40 Compact Low Force Stapler, 40 Sheet Capacity, Flat Clinch, Silver and Black, 2103357' is one of Rexel's new range of force-multiplying and flat-clinch staplers. I bought this stapler after my previous one broke, I recognised Rexel as being a reputable brand and looked at the Optima series and come across this model.I particularly enjoy the "low force" feature when stapling up to 40 sheets of paper at once; it makes stapling a thick wad of paper a breeze as the stapler does most of the work itself!Another feature that I appreciate is that this stapler uses "Flat clinch" stapling compared to "rounded clinch stapling" which helps to reduce the size of paper stacks saving space in your files and binders which is another noteworthy feature to be aware of.I would also like to add that the stapler comes with a box of Rexel Optima 26/6 pack of 1000 staples so you can get stapling straight away,

This is an amazing stapler. I've tested lots of good Rexel staplers in the last few years and this one really shines and stands out. It is compact but yet is built with a robust quality more associated with larger staplers.It costs a bit more at non-discounted price but is worth it for the extra power, as it can very easily staple 20, 30 sheets. Even the stated 40 sheets is not too much trouble. It has a leverage more like the staplers with long, over-reaching handles which extend far forward of the anvil, but this achieves it through clever mechanism. It is easy to load in the traditional way. The only thing it doesn't have is a rotating anvil but who staples in the open position anyway?

This is a great stapler from Rexel if you want a heavy duty desk model. It looks smart in silver and black with an orange flash. the body is metal with a rubberised base and press top. The base is very solid and stays in place firmly on the desk during stapling. The loading mechanism is a bit different - simply press down the black button at the back, the staple loading bay pops out and you place the 26/6mm staples end down on the tray, push firmly back in. It does not hold a lot of staples but reloading is easy.You cannot open this up for pinning and tacking, but the staples are inserted totally flat on up to 40 sheets of paper with very little force required.. The Rexel Optima 40 is a compact low-force stapler that is designed to give maximum results when applying the minimum of effort.
