Rexel have put a lot of effort into making this JOY Gazelle stapler a little different to a standard model. Most unusual is the little clear plastic window on the top of the handle that changes from green when it has more than about 12 staples inside to red, indicating that you need to refill it. If you're red-green colour blind you're out of luck as it identifies the information by colour alone, but it's something that a you would only otherwise find out by opening a normal stapler, or trying to staple something and discovering that no staple has come out. It's a clever mechanism that uses a little sprung green plastic arrangement to detect how many staples are inside.I've no idea how many years it will last. The staple is a luxury model because it's described as having a metal body, but that's only really partially true. The top bit that you hold in your hand is metal painted in metallic silver, but the lower half that you would usually rest on your desk is actually made of grey plastic, of a similar colour to the top. The actual stapling mechanism is metal but the hinge is held in place on the outside by the grey plastic base. This will probably last many years - who knows if it would have lasted longer if it were made of metal? Below the grey plastic base is purple plastic moulded to be gripped by your fingers, and the whole thing feels very comfortable in your hand. The front inch or so of the top of the stapler also has a matching purple section. It's kind of like plastic meets latex and has a nice feel. You can rest the JOY Gazelle on your desk in two ways, on its base like a normal stapler, and on end so you can grab it conveniently to do some stapling. You can staple in three ways - two being normal stapling with the ends of your staple either going in or splaying out, or the third way which is to open the whole mechanism flat and bang it against a notice board or other flat surface and it will embed your staple like a tack. The stapler comes packaged in a single use thin plastic bag and this is inside a cardboard box. The plastic bag isn't necessary and Rexel could have avoided using it in the interests of reducing unnecessary plastic waste.

Rexel staplers are a feature of many workplaces and are probably the only brand that many will ever consider. That was exclusively true for personal requirements in the past but, in recent years, another brand has filled almost every stapling need on a personal and business level, primarily as it offers styles of machines to suit certain regular uses where Rexel does not.The "Rexel JOY Gazelle Half Strip Stapler, 25 Sheet Capacity, Metal Body, Blissful Blue, 2104160" is a dual purpose machine that is equally a desktop stapler and a hand-held, having a number of finger ridges built into the base. It accepts either 24 or 26 gauge staples, solely in the 6mm size, either of which is ideal for up to 25 sheets of standard 80 gsm office paper. A unique feature of the JOY range is an option to colour coordinate the staples with the machine, although that is not an essential, and with other members of the range. While this is personally the most appealing in terms of its colour accents, there are three other colour choices that may appeal or otherwise to differentiate between individuals' specific machines. It could easily be the everyday light-to-moderate-duty stapler, offering both closed and open (pin) stapling at will via a rotating anvil. Not overly expensive, it could be ideal for use by a family at home, a student or more likely for occasional use within the workplace or a social club. The machine is delivered bare without even a half-strip of similarly-coloured staples loaded for immediate use and it is a top-loader. Although mostly plastic-cased, it is surprisingly heavy.

A stapler is such a staple (sorry) item to have around and this one, with its flash of coloured silicone, is more stylish than most but still a practical and functional item. The description is slightly misleading since only the top section is metal and the bottom half is grey plastic but both seem sturdy enough. The bottom also has finger grooves moulded into the coloured rubbery base so it's more comfortable to use vertically, which is often how we use staplers. It's easy to fill, you just lift up the upper section to reveal the loading tray, and there's a handy indicator on the top which switches from green to red to tell you when the staples run out - it isn't always that easy to see,but it's a nice idea. It takes No.56 staples (26/6 size) which are a very common size and so easily sourced. The staple baseplate swivels around so you can staple with a closed or open result for permanent or temporary binding. You can also flip it completely open flat so you can staple sheets onto a noticeboard, for example. The stapler can be set down on its end, as shown in some of the photo's above, but it isn't very that stable that way.I got the 'Lovely Lime' colour and it's eye-catching without being tacky looking, but presently it's more expensive than the other colours for no apparent reason. Overall, it's a sturdy everyday stapler that should last, even in a busy office, and the flash of colour makes it easy to spot on an untidy desk but I doubt the colour is worth paying a surcharge for.

If you need a decent stapler that is bit stronger than the lightweight versions this is well worth a look. The Rexel Centor Half Strip Stapler, 25 Sheet Capacity, Plastic Body is a good little robust stapler that will handle all your household needs as well as a desktop stapler. The standard staples will punch there way through up to 25 sheets which is good enough for most people. If you do need to regularly punch up to 25 pages you need to ensure you buy a good grade of staples like the Rexel brand rather than the cheaper 'pound shop' offerings'.This is facilitated by the superior grip of the machine. There are four good strong grooves were your fingers can get a really good grip in oppositionto your thumb on the top to punch through those 25 pages.I find this design much better to grip and far easier to to use than the traditional type where the base seems designed to protect the stapler from scratching the desk surface, The nylon grip doubles in this use.#If you need to join more then an industrial quality machine is required as well as the muscles of a young Thor to operate it.The suppliers claim the pack includes 1000 staples but my pack was lacking this essential item (This may be because it was Vine review item.If yours does not include get in touch with Amazon 'toot sweet'.The big questions and the answer to both are a big Yes.Is the stapler any good and is it good machine for the price.Recommended

As a lecturer I have suffered the diktats of the Department of Education ministers and minions. Many of these directives have caused both myself and my students problems. Some of the most contentious ones are based around the production and issuing of handouts. My students have repeatedly told me that they do not want handouts hole punched and that they aren’t too fussed about them being stapled (especially when one of the decrees said that all handouts must be stapled at an angle on the top right hand side of the handout with the holes punched down the left … think about it ?!).Not only does the DoE state the exact position of the staple but it also dictates the position of the holes to bepunched too.As a result of meeting these demands (because not to punch and staple the handouts as required would cost us valuable points and could have us declared as failing as well as costing me my job and my teaching licence) I burn through hole punches and staplers.I have used supermarkets own brands and other cheap ones only to have them fail within a short time and have to be replaced, hence when I find a good brand I tend to stick with it.Rexel has proven to be one of the good stationery brands available, in my opinion. The stapler is easy to load and easy to use. The staples are good solid metal made ones and they don’t fail too often.I am hoping that the stapler will last me at least a term/semester.

The 'Rexel Centor Half Strip Stapler, 25 Sheet Capacity, Plastic Body, Includes Staples, Translucent Purple, 2101014' is a half strip stapler, which is a 'vertical' type, this meaning that it can be stored standing on its end (the stapling end). It is a lovely purple colour in two shades - bright translucent plastic on its rear end, with a sort of mulberry coloured rubbery plastic on the part you press to staple down, and also underneath it, with very useful finger grips in the same material. The stapling action is excellent, and it opens right out so can be used for tacking and pinning also. It holds half a strip (although this is fairly moot these days,as all the staples I have had in the last few years have been the correct length of strip to fit this type) of Rexel No.56 staples, which are equivalent to 26/6 or 24/6, the 'standard' type. I have put Rexel Optima 56 staples in mine, and they enable the stapling of up to 40 sheets at once, standard staples allow up to 25 sheets to be held with this stapler. The only reason that I have given this (very pretty!) stapler four stars rather than five is that there is a problem with the description - it states in the title that it comes with staples but this is NOT the case, you will need to purchase some separately if you do not have any to hand.Attractive and functional vertical stapler, just be aware it doesn't come with staples!

The 'Rexel Gazelle Half Strip Stapler, 25 Sheet Capacity, Plastic Body, Assorted Colours, 2100714' is a great quality vertical stapler - I'm confused by the listing title saying that it has a plastic body, as the rear top part is metal, but this isn't overly relevant. The term 'vertical stapler' is new to me, but means that it can be stored stood on its end, thus taking up less desk space. It also has rubberised grooves to act as finger grips on the bottom surface, which are brilliant, and also facilitate stapling holding the device pointing downwards, rather than having it flat on a table and pushing down on it.The Gazelle range have an ingenious indicator on the top part, which is a little window that is green when there are staples in the stapler, and red when it is empty. The stapler takes Rexel No.56 staples - these are equivalent to 26/6 or 24/6 in other brands, or can be used with Rexel Optima 56 staples, which bring the number of sheets which can be fastened up from a maximum of 25 with standard staples to 40 with the Optima range. The functioning is smooth and doesn't require excessive effort, and I have experienced no jamming with it so far.The stapler looks very smart - mine is silver and black, I believe there are a variety of colours linked to this listing - the metallic silver parts are almost blue, and the black contrasts nicely. Excellent quality stapler.

I actually really like this stapler! I know, it's "only" a stapler however, it is quite stylish, with its two tone finish. It is constructed from a combination of metal and plastic (plastic base and metal workings and upper casing). It feels very robust and has sufficient capacity to hold what would commonly be known as one bar of staples (in actual fact, this is half a bar of staples, but lets not get caught up in semantics). It has all the normal features of a staple, such as the capability of bending the ends of the staples inwards or outwards and a gauge on the side of the stapler which lets you know when you've just about run out of staples. However, this latter feature also has a nifty twist,in that on the top of the stapler, there is a small window with a red and green piece of plastic inside. When the plastic is green, you have plenty of staples left and it turns to red, when you get to around 20 staples or less. The stapler takes standard sized staples, being 26/6 (No.56) and 24/6 (No.16), making it compatible with the majority of staples which are likely to be lurking around your house or office. It also has capacity for stapling between 20-25 sheets, depending on the thickness of the paper.Overall, it's probably one of the best value staplers in this segment of the market.

This is a cheaper model than the Gazelle and it shows in the features/ease of use. If you're willing to pay a little more I'd go for the Gazelle model instead. You can twist the base plate to staple folded in or out however I found it hard to use this feature. The bottom didn't come off to provide access so I was pushing randomly to find the right spot to lift it and then found it hard to keep the pressure needed and turn it. This stapler is very easy to open to replace staples, something that I have had an issue with in the past with other models. This stapler uses no.26/6 (No.56) and 24/6 (No.16) staples although it does not come with any staples at all to start you off. It can staple upto 25 sheets,I didn't staple that many but it worked easily with the 12 sheets I tried. This vertical stapler means you can stand it up and balance it to take up less space on your desk, not really an amazing selling point for me but it did stand stable on the desk. This stapler works perfectly fine for me with a few jams but I've yet to use any stapler that doesn't jam sometimes. This is fine if you want a cheaper stapler but if you're willing to pay more for the more expensive model I would.

I am not a fan of the purple colour although you certainly cannot lose it in a busy office as the colour is original and very different from the usual black, grey and white objects usually found in an office environment! The stapler itself is pleasingly compact and ideal for our home office. The stapler was easy to fill and I used Rexel no. 56 (6 mm) staples which are regular sized and used with all modern desk staplers. I was able to staple 22 sheets of paper (90 gsm) together. The stapler is fairly light weight and is comprised of metal, rubber and plastic. It has a rubberised push handle affixed to a metal arm and the bottom of the stapler is also coated with rubber, overlaid on a plastic base,to protect desk surfaces from scratches.A unique feature is the red/green ‘spy hole’ at the top of the stapler. It is red when the stapler is empty and turns green once full of staples. How many times have you tried to staple paper when there are no staples left in the dispensing arm? I also like the way that it can be stored vertically thereby reducing its 'footprint' on small, cluttered desks. This stapler is well designed and useful for the office.
