My current favourite stapler is the Rapesco Spinna which has a very similar design to this Rexel Optima 40. They are both the same size and share the same kind of staple loading system - you press a button down at the heel and a bar pops out at the front that you fill with as many staples as it will hold - quite a lot, which means you only rarely need to refill it.The Rexel Optima 40 weighs 571 grams when full of staples, while the Rapesco Spinna weighs only 419. I think this is because the Rexel has more metal as the means of construction, and the rubber top and bottom - which smell a bit like a bonfire that you've thrown a disused car tyre onto.In the product photo the orange strip on the Optima looks nice, but when you hold it in your hands it's not quite so impressive - it's a layer of plastic that forms part of the construction of the base, but it has a slightly cheap look to it. Not the most horrible plastic I've seen, but a bit like something you'd find in a child's toy.The black rubber base can be removed very easily from the orange plastic layer - maybe a bit too easily. It wouldn't surprise me if you find it comes off every now and then if you're engaged in a busy afternoon of stapling. The Optima is a "flat clinch" stapler which means the legs of your staples don't loop around after they pass through your stack of paper, they lay completely flat with it. This means a stack containing a whole load of collections of stapled papers will be very flat and won't raise up in the corner where all the staples sit on top of each other. The downside is that it's a bit harder to get a staple remover in there to pry an unwanted staple out.I've knocked one star off the Optima's rating purely because it costs more than the Spinna, weighs a lot more but can staple only 40 sheets of paper against the Spinna's 50.I suspect the black rubber base comes off easily because it reveals two screws that enable you to remove the orange plastic layer. Is this because at some stage you might get a jammed staple lost in the inner workings of the base, and need to dismantle it to get the unwanted staple out? I suppose it's nice that you might be able to repair it because at this price, and with this investment in metal and plastic you'd want this stapler to last a solid 10 years of office work.

As a lecturer I have suffered the diktats of the Department of Education ministers and minions. Many of these directives have caused both myself and my students problems. Some of the most contentious ones are based around the production and issuing of handouts. My students have repeatedly told me that they do not want handouts hole punched and that they aren’t too fussed about them being stapled (especially when one of the decrees said that all handouts must be stapled at an angle on the top right hand side of the handout with the holes punched down the left … think about it ?!).Not only does the DoE state the exact position of the staple but it also dictates the position of the holes to bepunched too.As a result of meeting these demands (because not to punch and staple the handouts as required would cost us valuable points and could have us declared as failing as well as costing me my job and my teaching licence) I burn through hole punches and staplers.I have used supermarkets own brands and other cheap ones only to have them fail within a short time and have to be replaced, hence when I find a good brand I tend to stick with it.Rexel has proven to be one of the good stationery brands available, in my opinion. The stapler is easy to load and easy to use. The staples are good solid metal made ones and they don’t fail too often.I am hoping that the stapler will last me at least a term/semester.

OK YOU NEED A STAPLER=====================You may need to staple a lot of paper, or just occasionally. There are TOO MANY to choose from: Manual desktop staplers, (most day to day) heavy-duty electric staplers can staple reams of paper,Effort? Heavy? Light? Small?THIS ONE=======It's fine for your daily stapling. I think it looks very pretty. It also looks good sitting on the desk.STAPLER========It's a stapler that looks prettier than most. It's a usual looking but light and easy to use.CONSTRUCTION=============Solid. Metal and plastic construction. It should survive a drop or two.SHEETS=======Standard full strip staplers will staple together between 20 to 50 sheets of 80gsm paper at once.Half strip and mini staplers have a stapling capacity of around 10 to 30 sheets of 80gsm paper. This is a 40 sheet stapler. It's good. It's quite solid and is suitable for both home or an office. Although it's not a heavy duty stapler.PROS=====Good brandFault freeStandard size staplelooks goodwell constructednot too heavyCONS=====none so farOVERALL========A pretty looking stapler which is fine at its job. I'll update the review if I have any problems. Hope this helps.

Whilst this particular stapler is not the most attractive, particularly in terms of the very boxy finish, it is a perfect example of why looks shouldn't be used as a method of deciding on the usefulness of a product before trying it out.I tested this stapler with 26/6mm staples i.e. the staples which are probably the most common ones available and the stapler was able to punch through a 64 page catalogue (effectively 32 double sided pages) with absolutely no difficulty at all. Whilst the paper will be slightly thinner than the average printer paper, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be able to staple up to 40 pages of 80g/sm.To test the reliability of this stapler,I made a series of 16 staples and every single one of them worked perfectly. The effort required to staple this catalogue was probably similar to that which would be required to staple 2 pages with a normal stapler so I can genuinely say that this particular stapler does require much less effort!A very good all round stapler and whilst I don't particularly like how it looks, function is more important to me and so I think this is one of the staplers which will be placed on my desk from now on.

This thing feels solid as a tank. It's heavy, in a good way. It seems made to high tolerances; all the bits fit together precisely, without much give. It makes a satisfying crunch when you staple something. If I were paper, I'd be afraid. Get it.Why am I here? I've owned and eventually been irritated by at least a dozen staplers. They would all start life reliable enough for a couple pages, but already bit dodgy when you had more than that to staple. Eventually they'd enter this phase of long lingering death, where they could hardly staple anything without misfiring. The worst thing is always your own denial about it. You keep thinking it's your fault. Maybe I loaded the staples wrong?Maybe if I just close it straighter and more definitively, it won't misfire? It'll keep going? No, it's not your fault. Most staplers are just rubbish. They are born weak and this weakness overcomes them and in the end they are useless.Sick of this, I decided to do a bit of research and based mostly on Amazon reviews I got this one. Happy I did. It feels indestructible. No signs of weakness at all. I think it'll last. This may be the immortal stapler.

we have collected about 4 different staplers over the years and each has been ok to staple a couple of papers. I ended up buying this because I wanted a heavy duty stapler. Something that would use standard clips, something that could take a pounding from continuous use and something that felt weighty and substantial in your hand and something that could clip together a bunch of papers when required. It really is a thing of wonder! I've thrown away the rest of the staplers I've collected and kept this one because I know it will last. It just makes life easier and helps your workflow if you have a bunch of papers to staple together .Cheaper staplers when you punch a larger than normal stack together end up going through only half of the papers or unable to close fully at the back, risking some of the papers of a collection from coming loose. It also means you have to remove the staple and try again, leaving your papers with a bunch of holes. This stapler does it al in one go, first time around. If you have a stack of papers to do, you know you can go through them quickly and easily.

First of all, this is a flat clinch stapler, which means that it has a special stapling plate that bends the staple legs completely flat (as opposed to the standard stapler, which curves the legs). This means that the paper piles are stapled tighter and therefore they take up less space. This is ideal if space saving is a goal, but it might not be as presentable and do also note that a flat clinch stapler does not offer the “temporary stapling” option of a standard stapling plate (when you turn the plate and the clinching method changes so the staples are looser and can therefore be removed using your fingers instead of staple removal tools). This stapler is well thought out as it’s light witha good grip and hold and it doesn’t require too much power to staple the piles – even when you staple up to the maximum of 40 standard sheets.I do, however, think that the lightness comes at the expense of robustness and I do not think it would take too many drops on the floor.A good stapler that does the job well and which uses standard 26/6 staples, so it’s easy to get supplies for it.

My old desk stapler was starting to show it's age, chewing up staples & generally misbehaving. I don't believe in buying cheap office equipment, it inevitably ends in tears & destruction. I've used Rexel stuff before & it's always been up to the job. I was sold on this one due to the full strip capability.Arrived & was a bit surprised by the size of it - if you've read my other reviews, you'll know that I have a bit of a habit of ordering stuff that turns out to be bigger than anticipated. Yet another one!!! Not as bad as the hole punch & 120 sheet stapler - but larger than the one it's replacing. It's almost 8" long & is a solid piece of kit. The staples are loaded via a slide which comes out of the front, you simply lay the strip on it.Surprisingly little effort is required & it can nail up to 40 sheets of paper in one go. Flat Clinch Stapling which means that the staple legs lie flat against the paper, instead of having a kink in them. This means that you end up with less of a bulge where the staple is.You can buy cheaper, but this feels that it'll last for a few years

You would have thought that staplers were fairly straightforward and that no instructions were needed. Well, call me stupid but I really struggled to work out how to load the staples (1,000 staples are supplied but are tucked away at the bottom of the box so look out for them!)). I eventually worked out that you need to press down the black piece at the back which shoots the cartridge forward. However, this was after I had managed to mishandle it and detach the black bit which took me a little while to work out how to reattach. I was left with a tiny spring which goes, I know not where but does not seem to detract from the operation.Anyway, staples loaded it's a pretty good stapler. It's substantial without being too large for home use and I liked the rubberised top and base. In so far as a stapler can, it looks quite stylish. Did not try the claimed 40 sheets but it ploughed through the 15 which is the maximum I am ever going to need it to do with ease. So overall a decent home stapler, but some basic instructions for the simple minded such as myself would have been helpful!

This 'Rexel Optima 40 Compact Low Force Stapler, 40 Sheet Capacity, Flat Clinch, Silver and Black, 2103357' is one of Rexel's new range of force-multiplying and flat-clinch staplers. While the body is silver and black, it has a striking orange stripe around the base, which makes it easy to spot on the desk! The force-multiplying effect works well, and it takes noticeably less effort to get through bundles of paper than with ye olde staplers. I would have some concerns that the design of this may ultimately prove less durable than the normal style, but so far it is withstanding us... The 'flat clinch' feature is great - basically it means that the stapler flattens the staple arms down much more than normal, leading to a much flatter heap if several stapled items are stacked. While this stapler uses standard size staples (Rexel No. 56, equivalent to the widely used 26/6 staples), as usual Rexel have not provided any in the package, which seems silly and always irritates me.Nice stapler, which works well.

I bought this stapler after my previous one broke, I recognised Rexel as being a reputable brand and looked at the Optima series and come across this model.I particularly enjoy the "low force" feature when stapling up to 40 sheets of paper at once; it makes stapling a thick wad of paper a breeze as the stapler does most of the work itself!Another feature that I appreciate is that this stapler uses "Flat clinch" stapling compared to "rounded clinch stapling" which helps to reduce the size of paper stacks saving space in your files and binders which is another noteworthy feature to be aware of.I would also like to add that the stapler comes with a box of Rexel Optima 26/6 pack of 1000 staples so you can get stapling straight away, right out of the box!Overall, I would recommend this product greatly as it provides fantastic performance combining with and ergonomic design to aid with comfort while stapling. I can safely say it is the best stapler I have ever owned!

This is an amazing stapler. I've tested lots of good Rexel staplers in the last few years and this one really shines and stands out. It is compact but yet is built with a robust quality more associated with larger staplers. It costs a bit more at non-discounted price but is worth it for the extra power, as it can very easily staple 20, 30 sheets. Even the stated 40 sheets is not too much trouble. It has a leverage more like the staplers with long, over-reaching handles which extend far forward of the anvil, but this achieves it through clever mechanism. It is easy to load in the traditional way. The only thing it doesn't have is a rotating anvil but who staples in the open position anyway? It makes up for it by being flat-clinch which flattens the staples much more so than a normal stapler. I also love the feel and it can be just about used one-handed.Of all the stapling options available this has to be one of the best buys for size v power.

This is a great stapler from Rexel if you want a heavy duty desk model. It looks smart in silver and black with an orange flash. the body is metal with a rubberised base and press top. The base is very solid and stays in place firmly on the desk during stapling. The loading mechanism is a bit different - simply press down the black button at the back, the staple loading bay pops out and you place the 26/6mm staples end down on the tray, push firmly back in. It does not hold a lot of staples but reloading is easy. You cannot open this up for pinning and tacking, but the staples are inserted totally flat on up to 40 sheets of paper with very little force required.. This means there are no sharp edges, scratches or loose papers, but they are harder to remove should you need to.NOTE: do not throw the packaging away at once, there is a small packet of 1000 staples hidden away under flap in the base of main Rexel box!

The Rexel Optima 40 is a compact low-force stapler that is designed to give maximum results when applying the minimum of effort. The design allows a lever mechanism to apply a greater force for up to 50% less effort, so you can flat-clinch up to 40 sheets of 80 gsm paper at a time without having to press as hard as you would with a regular stapler – seems to work for me. Flat-clinching gives a lower profile than regular stapling but may not suit everyone's requirements. This Rexel Optima 40 model is a compact, easy-to-refill top-loader, which is designed for home, school or office use, but comes with no staples supplied with it - Optima 26/6 are recommended. At Amazon's current price of less than eighteen pounds this model is reasonable value – but it would not be my first choice of stapler. Neat and compact with an attractive finish I rate it with four stars at the current price.
