Novices beware - this is a model that will test quite a few mid-level modellers. It has built into probably the best model that I've built to date, but not without having spent considerably longer on it than any other. It is very detailed with an excellent range of ordinance - I'm almost ready to junk my recent Airfix kit which is an absolutely appalling kit - I avoided Airfix for months afterward. Well, this is a Revell review and this kit has many of the usual Revell flaws - and a few new ones. The plane body is prone to flex - and with its prominently placed joins can cause quite a few issues - I would recommend gluing in some stiffeners to give it more rigidity. The air intakes caused a lot of grief.

The general consensus is that Revell make the best Tornado kits and I certainly like this one. However, the instructions are vague in places so having reference photos to hand is recommended. The cockpit is nicely detailed but the decals for the side consoles look toy-like and don't correspond to the raised detail of the part. Dry-brushing with a small flat brush will do the job a lot better. The kit can be built with moveable wings, tailplanes and weapon pylons; the latter are very fragile and the other two make the assembled airframe difficult to paint. The instructions tell you to fit the exhaust sub-assembly and the nose cone quite early; I'd advise pre-painting them and fitting them after

Hands down the best Tornado kit in 1/72, whose only fault is a mildly incorrect nose shape (which does not bother me). Surface detail is fantastic, and there is excellent detail inside the cockpit too, and there are no major fit issues although there are some delicate sections, namely the rotating pylons and swing wings. There is an extensive armament and stores set including normal and large drop tanks, dumb bombs, LGBs, and ALARM missiles. The decal sheet is huge too. There is one other downside worth mentioning: the mold is showing its age and there is a lot of flash and scratches. And the transparencies are rather terrible: the canopy has some crispness issues and the targeting pod is awful.

I am just about to start building my second one of these. I got part of the way through the first and found that some of the parts were not molded properly. Amazon made no fuss about sending a replacement. If you are building this take care when fitting the weapons gantries to the wings. Because the wings on a Tornado swing, the gantries have to rotate and the little clip inside the wing that hold the gantry on can come off and with the wing glued together you can't do anything about it. That said the detail in tha model is excellent as in all Revell models and they are challenging fun to construct.

I bought 2 of these kits. Big enough to see details and not take up to much space.The canopy part is very clear, I know there were some issues with the kit earlier with the canopy.I also bought the Hasegawa 1:72 Modern European aircraft weapons kit at the same time. Gives me Stormshadow and Brimstone weapons options at a very good price.This kit is rated as the best Tornado on the market by many reviewers on various forums. I have to agree

Bought as a Christmas gift, arrived exactly the same as the day promised. Hopefully my child will enjoy it as he did with his Lancaster model bought before.After unboxing:Its a matter of preference actually. My child liked it, but he loved the Lancaster model the most. He questioned why both models were not provided with pilots, which he expected there were.

I ordered this model on Monday and received it Wednesday so pleased with delivery time. The kit looks fine but should be a challenge for me, I’m used to starter kits. I ordered custom paints from revel which is due in a week.

This kit was bought as a present for a twelve year old boy who has experience of building models. It was delivered promptly and was well recieved. A detailed kit suitable for those with some experience of model building.
