I am collecting the 1:1200 commercial series by revell as i think they will look nice in a case. This is the third last as two new releases will come out in September. When i got the package i could not believe how big the model was. This model is nearly 1ft long. Revell even had to do a larger box for this model. As you would expect for a recent release, the detail is crisp and when build gives a good representation of the ship. I have built the 1:700 kit and although following in the same pattern, there are differences. I could not believe the price of this model for such size. The QE2 was more expensive in this scale. The decals are crisp and the instructions are good even though i did not use them.As an amateur but experienced modeler,

Let me get the pros out of the way first. What a great little model kit. Extremely well detailed and at a workable small scale that produces a fine scale model when completed. At 28cm in length the model is perfect for being displayed in an acrylic case for a 1/18th scale car model. The decal sheet included in the box really adds extra detail that works well. However, the decal sheet is where I begin with the cons.While most of the decals stayed put when I started to add a coat of matt lacquer to bring everything together after completion, the decals of the two-tone waterline gave me plenty of grief as the decals would not stay in place, lifting all the time until I revered to pasting them down using the same matt lacquer.

The pieces are well moulded, without too much cleaning needed. They also fit together well, which is not the case with a lot of models with large pieces. The construction is relatively simple and the instructions are easy to follow. The decals are also good quality.The only real complaint I have is that the windows do not go all the way through the panels, which means you have to fill each window paint which takes a long time and doesn't look as clean as other options.But for the price, the complaint is minor.

This model is not the hardest to build but it is still satisfying. The instructions were a little confusing in parts with all the criss crossing parts but i was able to use my initiative to work out what went where. Overall it took me 3 days to paint and stick together but i think it was worth the money. if you are looking for a project in-between projects, this is the one. If you want something complicated, however, this may not be for you.

Really fantastic model for the price. Bought this for my 9 year old son and found it just the right level of difficulty and it kept his interest throughout the building and painting.
