First thing to say is it's been about 25 years since I last made a model kit!. It is a good but like all model kits, it does take a little bit of work and modification to look a bit more realistic but you don't have to do so. Myself the main changes I made were to the helmet, making and adding the hoses and putting them to the correct suit connectors, making the camera more realistic (don't think the Apollo 11 astronauts actually had the mounted cameras anyway), adding foil to the lander leg and printing the Apollo 11 patch for the suit. But it's not all extra cost when doing modifications because most of the extra bits I used were made using non recyclable plastics - the red space suit ring in the helmet is from a pop bottle seal!.

Construction of this kit should be within the range of rank beginners, but the painting is trickier. Unless you are adept with a very fine btush, the lettering on the base will drive you round the bend. Otherise, the main bugbear is the usual one of painting a convincing face. One tip - the leg of the lunar module does not look remotely convincing. Check out pictures of the moon landing to see what the leg should look like. Aluminium foil or gold leaf (you can get a big pack of plastic imitation gold leaf for a couple of quid) should do the trick. Also make sure Neil Armstrong’suit has moondust stains on it. Both he and Aldrin got thoroughly filthy.

It's a great kit to build. It has some challenging parts but is straightforward and the finished item looks great.

An old kit [from 1970]. It has accuracy issues and problems with the fit of the parts but its still a good kit.
