Purina are a well known & respected brand which holds its own against other market leaders easily, primarily because of solid performing products like their Pro Plan range. Having already tried my geriatric cat Sophie on another variety (Senior) I was hoping this one would grab her interest similarly as she's (like many elderly less active cats) prone to piling on the grams.Thankfully she has given this her paws up & equally wolfs it down in preference over other dry food I used to feed her last year before she decided she didn't like it anymore. As I mentioned in my other review, I think it's unwise to give dry food as a sole foodstuff - firstly & most importantly cats are carnivores so requiremeat in their diet however you choose to provide that (I give chicken & fish with rare offerings of beef) but also, especially for male cats, an exclusive dry food (regardless of its claims) can in SOME cases lead to urinary problems. So it's important to provide a little variety where possible and so Sophie gets a small amount of tinned food, chicken and then a handful of Pro Plan. After only 2 weeks I can see a ridiculous improvement in her coat which has really surprised me - previously her coat was showing her age as she grooms so rarely now but the addition of Pro Plan seems to have boosted some life into it, as its as soft & shiny as it was when she was a decade younger (she's 17-1/2).And on checking her weight, she's holding stable at 4.6 kg which is reasonable & better than the 5 kg she was a few weeks back. While I can't say it's actually helped her lose weight as I feel much of that's come from my cutting back on high calorie foods & treats etc, I think it's certainly enabling her to hold a lower weight without having to starve in the process. All in all, a great dry food for your feline family member :)

An easy to open and reseal bag of dry cat food, suitable for cats that may need to lose a little weight or just to maintain a healthy balance. My youngest cat is towards the top of her ideal weight band and, whilst the vet indicated she does not need to be on a restricted diet, it is very much something we need to keep an eye on. A dry food that contains 40% less fat therefore seemed like an ideal choice to replace some of her meals. She didn’t seem to notice it had any less taste than normal dry food and was happy to eat her portions over the last few days. It is too early to say whether it has had any impact on her weight.Note that ‘rich in turkey in this case means 16% turkey content although the presence of a generic animal fat, fish oil and poultry may make this unsuitable if your cat has allergies to other protein sources as no further breakdown is provided. Other common allergens present in the ingredient list are wheat, rice, corn (maize), egg and soya meal.I cannot allow my middle cat to eat this dry food as she is allergic to three of the specified ingredients and probably some of the generic proteins. My eldest cat with few remaining teeth was happy to try some since the youngest was partial and enjoyed her allowance but is at an age where she could probably do with gaining a little weight and so will not generally be given this unless she muscles in on the youngest cat’s territory. This is something that I will give to my youngest cat to try to ensure the vet remains satisfied with her weight although will also feed some wet food for variety.

I recently changed to this light version as my cat is becoming a bit tubby. The cat has been on the usual type of Pro Plan but recently became less active and is pretty much a home cat now. I don't think it was the food that made her overweight merely that she has slowed down and doesn't go out much or use up much energy now. I decided to try this light one and I will continue to give her a wet food pouch most evenings. Pro Plan is excellent food, the best I have ever bought and far superior to other well known dried foods. Since starting to use Pro Plan (6 months ago) my cats teeth are cleaner with fresher breath, her sensitive stomach has resolved and she has the most beautifully soft and silky coat.It is hard to find Pro Plan in the shops and even when found, is far more expensive than here on Amazon. Its great to have it delivered (for free) as it is a bulky item.My only issue with buying this product is that it did not come with any packaging on it at all! Merely a posting label. The pro plan bag is made of very tough plastic and it arrived in good condition but I do feel that it should have had at least a plastic wrapper to protect it. When I have bought the other varieties they have always come in a cardboard box.

Normally I buy the opti renalHousecat as my clowder all live indoors, but the male has a definite weight issue, which frankly deserves the usual descriptions we give of him , like Pudding and Porky. I have this a go and I swear this cat comfort eats and they all do like to share... and not only did I notice that the girls didn’t mind it at all, none of them turned their noses up even though I thought it looked slightly drier than the housecat formula. Did he lose weight, actually a bit yes. I’m a vet so I toyed with this or the pro plan veterinary obesity diet but I’m impressed with this line and I’m NOT affiliated with any brand, I use purina because personally I think it’s the best.As a multi cat house I recommend mixing it up with the regular choice of opti-renal pro plan and frankly, places the dishes higher up. To get to his food Jack actually has to put some effort in and this has cut back on the comfort eating as well. For ultimate weight loss, go with the veterinary diet obesity plan but to cut back on calories with losing the cuddle, this is the job!!

Purina do an enormously wide range of cat food which varies enormously both in price and corresponding quality. This is the top end and is designed as a low fat food for cats. I suspect it's probably best for cats which either need to go on a diet or to prevent them from needing to go on one in the first place, though equally I can't see it doing any harm to a standard moggie.Speaking of which, it's worth a brief comparison with standard Go-Cat dried food which they also produce. Opti-light contains 16% turkey whereas the Go-Cat contains 8% rehydrated fish and fish derivatives (tuna and herring). There are other differences but that's neither here nor there and I'm not disparaging Go-Cat which is absolutely fine.Let's face it, an ideal diet for cats is fresh fish, meat, mice and birdsAs for cat-appeal, all mine (7 of the little monsters and podgy or not) have enthusiastically eaten it. But when it's gone, it's back to the standard dried food.

We have 5 neutered cats, 2 Siamese, 2 Orientals and 1 Balinese. Our 7 year old Siamese, Jophiel is rather porky (5kgs)! We have tried kibble after kibble diet food with no discernable weight loss. Purina Opti-Light Turkey is finally working. He is looking slimmer already after just 1 week of eating this diet food. The only trouble is that it is so palatable that the others eat it too. To overcome this problem I mix their food with a bit of Purina and they seem very happy.Pro Plan light is low fat -40% and contains all the nutrients for long term health with extra fibre. It also like all good cat kibble, contains Taurine which Cats being Obligate Carnivores must have in their diet.I am very impressed and when this bag is finished I will certainly be buying more.Well done Purina.

Good value for money, I've got three cats. One of them (the girl) is the one with weight issues but of course I had to swap to light for all of them, as they usually don't ask:"sorry, which is the dish with the low calory stuff?" I can't say they need more than of the ordinary dry food. They seem to eat their usual portions, and appear very satisfied after. They really do enjoy it. Drop in weight I have not observed yet, but I'm not too worried. Snooki is curvy, she can clinb and run and never asks "does my bum look big..?" So really, I just didn't want her to gain more weight, which she hasn't and the two boys have kept their toned tummies and thighs.

It doesn`t seem to be right to give cats "light" food, they are so awesome that I feel like giving them treats all the time...but then one of mine was adjudged - harshly I thought - to be considered slightly overweight so this`ll have to be offered now and again. And to be honest, whilst it doesn`t seem to be the most favoured of all food I`ve ever fed them, they did eat it before wandering off and then coming back etc., so whilst it isn`t as delectable as a piece of salmon, it gets eaten and probably is the right thing to do as an owner, to consider cat food from a perspective of things other than purely how immediately happy the cat is.

I love it because my vet said my cat needed to lose at least a Kilo! A lot for a small cat. But this is wonderful since i started using it she has lost a kilo in a month (being careful not to give her treats) and the vet is delighted that this product has been so successful. She also needs to use a dental dry food which I give her with the Light Dry Mix but only around ten pieces with the light mix and still seems to be working. If you kitty is looking a bit chubby, give her this. My kitty always has some in her bowl and has NOT gained any weight used along with the dental mix but you may need to see what your own vet's views are.

One of my cats has got a bit plump, so I thought I'd try this 40% reduced fat food. After two weeks on this instead of Iams, she has certainly slimmed down a little. She seems to enjoy the food as much as she enjoyed Iams, but as an owner, I enjoy serving this food far more than Iams, because the bag opens and pours far more easily. You simply rip of a corner of the packaging along a perforated line, and than have a resealable corner opening, which provides a great funnel for pouring out the food (see picture). With Iams bags, I have been folding over the top and closing it shut with a clothes peg.Overall, very happy.

I was worried that my large male cat would not take to this due to the reduced fat content, he has been used to eating Purina Pro Salmon. You can imagine my delight when he gobbled the new food down almost as if they were a special treat. We initially fed him the same amount of the new food as we had the original Purina (about 70 gms - he is a 7 kg cat!), but he was still hungry so I am now mixing his salmon and his lite food together, which he doesn't seem to mind, just until his tummy adjusts to the lighter food.My hope is to move him over to just eating the Purina Lite gradually then he will lose a little weight.

My older cat has a touch of "middle aged" spread and I was getting concerned that the extra weight could have an effect on his overall health. He loves his biscuits and I admit I had a tendency to spoil him! However I have switched him to these he has slowly lost weight and is back to a lean, mean killing machine! He loves these biscuits and I have peace of mind that he's maintaining a healthy weight. I have trawled every website to get the best price and Amazon come up trumps so I don't bother looking elsewhere now. Also as a Prime member they are delivered next day.

My cats are both neutered, and neutered cats have a tendency towards weight gain. I try and keep an eye on their diet, particularly the female who isn't as active and tends to stay home and sleep much more. But I would imagine 'diet' or 'light' cat foods are probably a lot like their human variety - a poor substitute for the real thing. I've tried a couple of other brands of weight-control cat food and they've either turned their noses up or gone off it after a few days. But they seem to like this one - touch wood!

A nice light food in a resealable bag. The biscuits are small and pour easily. My fussy cats appear to love it.The bigger of the two (5kg) is looking slightly more streamlined, so hopefully the vet will be pleased (we're on a "he's not fat, but he is at the top of his healthy weight" warning). The smaller one (4.5kg) doesn't see why he should miss out so the bowl clears as soon as I put it down.As always with Purina a good quality cat food and Amazon's price is better than the shops.

Dried food for cats, definitely tasty for them, horrible for humans. My 3 tuck in readily, not noticing any sign of less enthusiasm for the lessened fat. There's a bit of me knows the "scientific" cat food labelling is probably as much of a con as the "luxury" cat food labelling; in essence, it's all reclaimed beak protein and ground up udders, but, given Amazon's excellent prices, and on the promise of good feline health, I see no reason to buy anything or anywhere else.
