I have an active 16 month old border collie that happily eats this food as his main meal/diet. I also have a bag of Orijen Regional Red that I bought on offer on Amazon that I switch to in order to prevent food boredom. I divide his daily gram allowance into portions, reserving some to use as treats as it's dry I often give it as what I call 'fun food', placed into a brain training puzzle game or into a slow release treat dispensing toy, turning meal times into something more mentally beneficial, rewarding and challenging. Border collies, working breeds and many other intelligent dogs tend to get bored and thrive off challenges etc. If your dog initially refuses this food or has an off day, simply change your tactics and try to make it more fun, (increasing the value). This food has a Calcium (Min.) 1.4 %, Phosphorus (Min.) 1.1 % ratio. This is the ideal balance for calcium and phosphorus and essential for ideal growth and development and protection of the joints as well as a healthy skeletal system. You will notice on visits to the vets that your dog will be trim, lean and healthy when fed this food according to his/her daily feeding allowance, yet on the weight scale they will be on the heavier side. This will be due to a very healthy bone mass. Preventing fractures and joint injuries and developmental problems. Something that's becoming more and more prevalent in younger dogs.I'm very happy and assured that this food is nutritionally complete and rates a very high score of 97% on allaboutdogfood.com. The amount of grains and fillers in many dog food brands is a huge concern for long-term canine health and causes many short term symptoms like dry and itchy skin and a dull coat as well as dry and itchy eyes, or weepy eyes etc. A dog I owned previously suffered these symptoms until I made myself more informed and transitioned her diet away from the common brands. There is a reason why dogs produce up to 100 times the amount of acid than that of a human stomach... and it's not to break down grains. All in all my dog loves this food and I love the ingredients and trust the brand and so I'm happy to bulk buy to cut down the long-term cost a little because it is expensive but in my opinion worth it. His stools are also consistently firm yet moist with zero clean-up mess. It is a bit of a bugger that the packaging isn't re-sealable so what I do is tear open (where the open tab is) to almost but not quite halfway, (or big enough to fit your hand into) and use a cup size measuring scoop that you can leave in the bag. I use a stainless steel one for hygiene. Then fold down the corner of the bag and clip with a large stainless steel clip/clamp.

Bought Orijen dry cat food in Sept 2018 for £18.99 with free delivery by One Stop shop. As anyone who's ever bought this particular brand knows, this is a really good price. It usually retails for around £25 with delivery on top. That said I wouldn't purchase from this seller again for one reason only. The best beforr date on the bag I received was 1st Dec 2018. This was OK this time round - even though I prefer to have longer than 2 months on cat food because I think, if its anything like human food, the flavour starts to deteriorate as it gets closer to it's use by - (crisps being a good example?!) Anyway as I said, it was ok this time.My 5 month old kitten ate it and finished the bag a week or so ago.I was hoping this was old stock and that with my next order I'd get new stock with a longer best before date. I contacted the seller who confirmed bb is still 1st Dec 2018.I guess that explains why it's selling so cheaply - obviously a lot of stock to shift before 1st Dec.I just wanted to make customers aware of this before they purchase - especially if you don't think your cat will get through a bag by December 1st. I know some pets and their owners aren't fussed whether food is in date or not. But cats can be fussy little beggars.Aside from that, Orijen itself is a wonderful cat food. It's the only quality dry cat food I've found so far that my little kit will eat. She was on Felix and Go-Cat at the rescue centre and there was no way I was keeping her on that. So now she has a pouch of wet food (Natures Menu Country Hunter - which I'd also recommend) in the morning and she grazes on the Orijen throughout the day and into the night. This is a high protein food - 85% poultry, fish and eggs providing 40% protein. My little kit has tons of energy, a really glossy coat and isn't at all overweight even though she has 24/7 access to the Orijen.Another plus - no smelly, soft poops!I originally gave this 4 stars but that was more about the best before date - which is down to the seller rather than the product itself. So it seemed unfair to knock a star off for that when the product itself is fantastic.

GREAT!! He likes it! Dang.. he would have to like one of the most expensive dry cat foods out there. Well, he's worth it, right? What have I noticed differently about him since feeding him this cat food? Where do I begin..Never before, but he does this now since feeding him this catfood.. when I let him in, he jumps up on the sofa chair by the door before I can even get it shut and then leaps onto my back and purrrrs most immediately, insisting to ride on my shoulder. In fact, he does so whenever the opportunity now arrises. Yes! He will jump up onto something I am near, then leap through the air and onto my shoulder. Now, how's that for changed behavior since feeding him this cat food?He is now like the cat version of Superman!! How lovely, except for the cat claw marks on my back.By the way, we are working on a more gentle manner of achieving his goal (of constant attention getting).YUP! HE FEELS GREAT!!! Yahoo, I should say. Dang.Just a side note. I had bought a 15 lb. bag of "Taste of the Wild Dry Cat Food, Rocky Mountain Feline Formula with Roasted Venison and Smoked Salmon" and only a 5 lb. bag of the Orijen Cat & Kitten Dry Food the same day I decided to make a major change in my 2 cats' diet (due to the horrid GMO's and gluten and other unmentionable garbage in cheaper brands) and of course, he only would eat the 5 lb bag of Orijen (the more expensive brand). He took one whiff of the Taste of the Wild brand and twirled around with a most unpleasant look on his face (he is a very expressive kitty).I do have another cat and the same reaction came from him as well. Although, recently, the other cat (my older cat) will now eat some of the Taste of Wild brand.. since, after all, he does dip into the dog's Taste of Wild food (which is the same flavor), but not my younger cat. Nope. He demands the best (subjective and objective opinion)! Now, excuse me, I need to go make an order for a 15 lb. bag of Orijen dry cat food. Until then, I will be hearing the demands of the younger one ,because I am out of Orijen. Dang! And that is why I am gving Orijen 5 stars.

Got this delivered about 10 min ago. Cat was asleep at the time, while I was putting food in her plate she woke up and started smelling around and before I had a chance to fill up her plate fully (as I was using a small scoop) she jumped down to her food dish pushed my hand out of the way and started eating. She ate a lot of it and was eating like she had never eaten food before, after finishing she jumped on her bed and went back to sleep.I was previously using Go Cat (indoor version as she is an indoor cat) as she is a very fussy eater and didn't like Iam's, Eukanuba or other dry food that are considered better than Purina. Sadly she got feline acne and despite cleaning her plates everyday, giving her fresh food in ceramic plates, giving her fresh water and changing her water glass every few hours she was still getting it. For two years I have been trying to get rid of it, vet medicine gets rid of it but then it comes back a few months later.I have been meaning to change her food for a while now as Purina is awful but due to her being a fussy eater often new better quality cat food would end up in the bin. Thankfully she likes Orijen and based on what I have read / heard I think she will fully recover from her skin issues. She is already active (I have played with her everyday since she was a kitten and ensure she does running, jumps, parkour and wrestling often throughout the day. A Russian white playful almost like an Abyssinian) but if she gets more active from eating this I will be happy.EDIT: 2 years later and cat still loves this, I would recommend getting Orijen treats too but not from Amazon as it is much cheaper else where. Usually when I open a new bag she tends to overeat, though well within her limits. It is essential that your cat is active and you dedicate 90 mins at least, but not all at once, of exercise a day to your cat(s).

I had been feeding my cat Royal Canin Persian 30 formula for five years. Over that time, my cat had horrible digestive issues. He would randomly vomit entire portions of the food, unchewed and undigested. His feces also smelled bad. It finally warranted a trip to the vet. The vet believed the vomitting was due to his breed. He eats too much all at once, drinks water, and then the corn in the food caused the kibble to expand, making him vomit. I followed the vet's advice to feed him tiny portions throughout the day.A year passes, and although my cat doesn't vomit as frequently, his health contined to decline. He became very lethargic, hardly ate, his fur was shedding more and became coarse and oily, and he stopped sleeping in his cat tree. Concerned, I found reviews on his food and discovered that RC has switched their formula. They now use bi-product meal, which if you look at pet food regulations, can even include chicken feces. I found other pet owner's with the EXACT same problems my cat was experiencing. I genuinely thought my cat was terminally ill. He lost three pounds and his spine and hips were protruding.A friend recommended Orijen to me. I fed him and he gobbled it up immediately. He no longer vomits at all. Six months of Orijen and my cat is bursting with energy, jumps in his cat tree again and sleeps, gained his weight back, has the most beautiful coat I've ever seen on him, and his litter box doesn't wreak anymore.I know there is controversy over whether whole protien diets for cats is just a fad to get consumers to pay more, but from my own experience I can assuredly say that changing my cat's diet drastically improved his life for the better. Thank you Orijen for healing and nourishing my best friend.

It's been a month since I bought this product and that is pretty much what it has take to transition my cat to this new food, so I will probably update this review when my cat has gone through the whole bag. As any transition I will say that it was tricky, her poop was smelly and she didn't went for it like crazy, but so far I think she is getting used to it. The way I did it was by mixing 3 cups of the older food with a 1/4 cup of Orijen, mix all up and serve, then add a 1/4 cup every week until we run out of that mix. My cat also did not eat much during and after the transition but her weight has maintain, I will argue that since this food is so rich and cats do seem to auto regulate so good, she might not need to eat so much of it. I will HIGHLY recommend that people add wet food to their cat's diet during the transition and maintain that after the general feeding. Cats tend to not drink much water cause they don't have the impulse to do so (most of the water is supposed to come from their diet) and wet food tend to provide moisture and making them drink water. I only give this product 4 stars because the transition was a bit hard, you DO have to wet the food a bit (says so in the bag) so your cat stays hydrate but that might pose a problem to people that use feeders (since the food is loaded with proteins and iron, if you left it for long out with water it can grow bacteria) and it is a bit pricey. So far I can only vouch for good shiny coat, my cats energy has always been high.

My cat Jack, LOVES this food! I wanted a grain free food that has whole foods for the first few ingredients. It appears to be very healthy by looking at the ingredient list and it shows on my little guy. He has an extremely soft coat, if he would let me sleep on him, I would. He begs for this food and has never turned his nose away from it (he has done this with other foods). His waste is very solid and are medium sized droppings. However, his poop smells! I do think it's the food, because if I use a different food, the smell is nowhere near as bad.I have emailed Orijen before, asking them if they ever plan to make a canned wet food. And their response was more than satisfactory. This was written to me two years ago."I'm sorry, we have no plans for ORIJEN or ACANA in cans at present or in the near future. A big part of our philosophy is producing our own foods from fresh regional ingredients, exclusively within our own factory here in Alberta, Canada. As canned food is a very different production process, almost all canned pet foods are made by one or two very large canning companies. We are just not comfortable with the idea of having ORIJEN or ACANA products made outside of our own facilities."I'm not disappointed at all by this response. But I do need to feed my cat wet food. So the plan is to continue him on Orijen for breakfast and probably Wild Calling or Stella & Chewy's for dinner. I have no hesitation in recommending this food to anyone with a cat or dog.

After years of trying various diets for my 5 cats, including the 'so-called' top-rated ones such as Hills Science Plan and JWB etc, I opened my eyes to the real deal here! These food are not as good as they claim and vets only push them as they are funded by these companies. These foods also contain grains and other ingredients that are really not suited to a cats natural digestive system. I have carried out a lot of research recently and have been won over by Orijen! Without boring you by listing the ingredients, and the benefits it has on your beloved pet, just look at Orijen's site and read for yourself! I now feed a diet of the 'Orijen' (the best dry cat food available)plus the Ziwipeak raw (the best wet food available) 3 times a week and all my cats are truly benefiting from this. I whole-heartedly believe that feeding the Orijen and a natural raw diet is the best diet you can give your cats! :) It is right up there in price, the highest yet, and I total it to cost me around £90 a month to feed my 5 cats; but when it comes to their diet and well-being, money is no object! we wouldn't eat rubbish and tolerate a poor diet, so why should they? :)IMPORTANT INFORMATION: I thought I would let you know that I order monthly from 'Viovet' as this price here on Amazon is crazy! On Viovet this same size bag is £23, but if you buy the 6.8 kilo bag it is £48!! So you are getting a free bag! £48 for 6.8 kilos - go to Viovet! :)

This stuff may be expensive, but (and I appreciate this is my experience, and may not be everyone's) I've found that my cat eats less of it so a 1.8kg bag lasts on average 3 months, so for me actually works out really reasonable. My large indoor cat LOVES it, and even takes it as treats, but doesn't eat huge amounts of it - I mentioned it to my vet because although he's a big, well toned cat, I was concerned he maybe wasnt eating enough - but when I told her it was Orijen she said "ah, not a problem then - if it's a nutrient rich cat food he just won't need or want to eat as much".Indeed the protein count is way higher than anything like whiskas or gocat, and it even looks and smells rich and meaty.I used to feed my cat Royal Canin, which seemed to be doing him great, but since changing to this I've noticed his coat is thicker and glossier, his claws are strong, and (when he's not unconscious!) he is consistently bright, alert sand active - even his litter tray appointments are like clockwork! He's not as keen on the fish variant (actually to be honest, he won't touch the stuff. Like sits by the bowl looking angry if I try to feed him it) but this meaty one is any absolute staple in our household! Admittedly I wish it was a bit cheaper, but I do think you get what you pay for in terms of quality

In terms of the cat food, this is fantastic. The size of the biscuits is quite small, so would suit most cats and kittens. It smells very rich and organic, and although dry food, seems to have quite high fat content, as there's a light oiliness to them. And most importantly, my cat LOVES this stuff - so much he'll even take it as treats in place of dreamies and other snacks. Since using it I've also noticed his coat seems glossier, and he seems to be just generally happy, energetic and healthy. So no complaints at all with the food, and it's definitely worth the price for the quality and "cat appeal"However, the packaging is... pretty poor.Something I find really annoying is that the pack isn't resealable.Given the size, unless you have several cats, a bag will last at least a month - so having a seal is a must. And given the price, you would think they could add a resealable strip, especially when they have them on most brands regardless of the cost.Additionally, it doesn't stand stable. You can't lay it on its side once opened, as it isn't resealable - and you have to lean it against something of you keep it upright. As such, I've had to buy a large tub to decant this into.Purely for the cat food, I would give it 5 stars, but the packaging is a 3

This is a great product and as far as I'm aware the only true whole prey dry food on the market - there's a wide variety of grain free brands on the market but none is whole prey. I'm gutted they stopped selling it on a pet website where I normally shop simply as it's not locally sourced (and although there is no alternative) so I'm happy I can still get it on amazon.Looks expensive but lasts much longer than other kibbles as it's packed with nutrients and protein so cats actually eat less than when feeding products with grain or other fillers (tapioca, potato starch..). Not to mention the savings on vets as both my cats are perfectly healthy thanks to this. They are happy, energetic indoor cats with healthy weight and silky fur and they love these kibbles as well. Originally wanted to feed them BARF but they both refuse the available frozen ranges (don't blame them as they look and smell quite unappealing) so we use these kibbles as a base and support with natural grain free wet food and raw meat (mainly chicken but also fish and occasionally beef).I cannot but recommend this product, especially as it works even for the fussiest of eaters!

I actually was forced to start feeding this to my cat cold turkey instead of gradually switching, since my kitty loved this food the minute I introduced it to her and she refused to eat her old food (She's a Persian/Munchkin mix). I also can't free feed her anymore because she will eat everything that I put down of the Orijen formula. She had no tummy issues when we switched, and her fur is incredibly soft now. Her energy levels are through the roof. Honestly all cats are different, so your cat may adore this or it might take 5 months to switch over. They sell 12 oz packs which I bought initially to try, and it obviously worked out. I had been looking for a quality dry food and this definitely was it.There is ample water out, and I also feed her wet mixed with water at night. Orijen is so protein dense as a dry food that they need the moisture. Additionally, it's extremely high calorie as a food. So I have to balance her insatiable taste for this and the fact she only needs around 180 kcalories a day (1 cup is 500 kcalories). Overall, highly recommend. Give it a try and make sure to take into account all the factors when switching.

Got recommended this company's product by a dog walker friend who was also a veterinary assistant. Our 11 month old boxer boy was suddenly finding hard to keep any food down having been perfectly happy for previous 9 months with Burns puppy food. We think he'd caught a stomach bug but the problem was no matter what we tried, be it dry or wet food, fresh meat or tinned, he just couldn't seem to keep anything inside him. Anyway long story short our dog walker friend explained the amount of grain the majority of dry food companies put into their products and our four legged friends are not designed to digest that amount of grain filler but that Orijen was high quality meat fish and veg which in her experience dogs seemed to blossom on.It seemed pricey in comparison to what we we'd been using but in desperation we gave it go. Happy to report within days vomiting stopped [of course that could have been coincidence] however his coat took on a real healthy glow the weight started to come back on and he just loves it so looks like we staying with Orijen

I bought this food upon the recommendation from an online forum. I was struggling with a newly adopted underweight cat who refused all the wet foods I offered him. While I had really hoped my dear Salty would be willing to eat canned food, Orijen seems to be the next best thing.Salty came from rural Kentucky, so my guess is he had probably been fed junk dry food his whole life and was thus unwilling to try the wet foods, relenting to this fact I was surprised that he loved this so much. I had tried feeding him Wellness CORE, but that was not very well received. He also seems to prefer this flavor to the six-fish.If you look around on their website (they have very nice video)you will get the impression that they truly care about animals, not just the pets who eat the food, but the livestock itself. Overall I am very impressed with the food, and while I can't say it has caused any dramatic changes in my cat, he is at least eating and starting to gain weight.

After extensive reading of reviews on Amazon, 2 other Cat Food Dealers, & the Internet in general, I finally bought this 5lb bag. In general, every Cat Food site had this product at the top. Very expensive...true, but I wanted "the" best rated product to give even the smallest % of extra health care in regards to the food I am feeding my 2 one year old female cats. I mixed equal parts of my old dry food with half of the Orijen Chicken dry food. They had no problem with the thinner oval flat shapes as opposed to rounded pencil size kibble. In fact, I watched them eat & heard them chewing since some of the reviews said their cats threw it up. Either way,my cats loved it and I am very satisfied.Update: My 2 one Yr old females have been eating Orijen Chicken for a week now. They look forward like "addicts" when it's dry food time. And, like others have said, they are much more energetic like a herd of horses. Really great food!!! So happy I changed!
