I unpacked the sensor, pulled out the battery tab and the light glowed, opened the Alexa app, searched for devices and it was found immediately. I set up a routine with the intention to switch on my porch light as a I walked down the stairs of an upstairs flat. Repeatedly shouting to Alexa in the other room was becoming a mundane affair.Inside the packaging is a strong magnetic button which can be screwed into a surface. The unit then fits into the button and holds firmly in place. I believe they used to come with magnetic domes so that the unit could could be adjusted to point in any direction. Now they only sit flush on the button pointing straight ahead, so I suspect that the field of view was improved.Despite the button magnet being effective, the unit does sit a few centimeters from the wall, so it pops out quite a bit. Since I wanted mine to sit flush with the banister rails on a small ledge, I opted to fit mine without the magnet and use white BluTak instead to secure it (as pictured). After setting up the Routine in the Alexa app to switch on my porch light upon detecting motion and with the unit fitted in place, the light switched on as I passed down the stairs. Success! However, it was not switching off after the stated minute. After 20 minutes of experimenting, I realized that 'Re-run Routine after 1 min' was not the option to switch off the light. Instead I discovered that I had to set up another Routine to switch OFF the light. After setting a Routine to switch off the light when the sensor detect NO MOTION for 1 minute, it was working flawlessly. I pass, it switches on and after 1 minute of no motion, it switches off.I'm really pleased with this and it's made my already smart house even smarter. This technology is really impressing me and it's making life all the more convenient! The only criticism, is that even though I put the sensor up a reasonable height in a bid to counteract this, the sensor will still activate the light when my cat ventures down the stairs. I am aware that Philips have taken note of this after reading a post on their forum, so it might be a feature they will have in a later model, or better still, it might simply be an option we can select in the Alexa App.If you're wanting a bit more automation in your smart home, this is the kit for you. Have a think. You're bound to have some sort of use for one!

I've ditched all my smartthings sensors and replaced them with hue ones. These are hands down the best motion sensors I have owned, but the hue app SUCKS for this!Pros- They are powered by two AAA batteries... No frustrating coin batteries here! In my experience, this makes them last forever and they are super easy to replace. As an added bonus, I use rechargeable AAA batteries in mine and have home assistant alert me when I need to charge a pair up! As someone who had a lot of smartthings sensors in the past, I appreciate being able to replace the batteries without slicing my finger in two!- the sensor includes an illuminescence sensor. If you are using an automation hub like home assistant or hubitat, this is a HUGE thing! It means you have a way of measuring the light level in your room and can control automations based off not just whether there's motion, but also using the light level. This in itself is a reason to get this- flexibility with mounting! This has a rounded back and attaches to the wall using a magnet which can be attached to the wall via a screw, or a handily placed metal surface! The rounded back also means you can have more control regarding the angle of your sensor. Some (I'm looking at you smartthings) attach to the wall flat, meaning you have a much narrower field of view for the area you want to cover!- this runs on ZigBee! Typically sensors like this will go in a corner of a room, where WiFi may not have the best signal strength. This isnt an issue for these though because they connect via ZigBeeCons- when connected directly using the Philips hue hub, theres a significant amount of lag when using a separate home hub. This is due to the integration with Philips hue and is quite disappointing.- the hue app has a very basic control interface. It's good for the basic use of having one sensor control a room based on whether motion is detected. But each sensor works in isolation, so grouping isnt possible without the potential for a lot of false switch off's- some platforms struggle to pair this directly. Smartthings was a bugger for integrating this, as you had to delve into the depths of the developer settings to get it to connect... The same cannot be said for home assistant which was no more challenging than any other ZigBee device.

To use these Sensors you will need to have the Philips Hue Bridge (The Echo Plus can be used as a bridge for the lights but not for the Hue Sensors). If you are like me were enticed to buy smart bulbs because they can be voice activated and you can change the mood of a room in a couple of clicks, you may be finding your new lights a bit of a faff to turn on and off. This could be your answer. These sensors only turn your lights on when they sense movement and when there is not enough daylight. You can choose to set a time for how long the light stays on after it’s been activated and depending on the time of day, choose if you want the lights to be dimmer or brighter (i.e at night your lights can be dimmed as you fumble your way to the bathroom). These also work with some other smart lights, but you will still need the Philips hub. They are easy to install and can either placed on top of a shelf or attached to a wall.Annoying bit: If you have set a ‘scene’ and it detects motion, it defaults to a bright white light. Your ‘scene’ is then lost and you have to start from scratch. To get around this you can turn the sensor off via the app.I’ve also found the IFTT app (If this then that) does not currently recognise Hue products as a trigger. If you want to use the sensor to activate anything other than a bulb you may therefore struggle.I’ve also found that when you install these, you should do it via the Hue app 1st (Not Alexa). If you do it any other way, the Hue bridge can’t find it and you have to reset the sensor via a pinhole and then install via the Hue app.Handy tip: The motion sensor also measures temperature. You can use it to set alerting scenes when your baby’s room exceeds or falls below certain thresholds. The technology isn’t cheap, but if you already own the hue bulbs I would highly recommend using these.Hope this review is of help.

I got a couple of these recently and they are great pieces of kit. Previously, I had a morning routine which would come on at 0500 hours regardless. Most mornings I need the lights to come on at that time but others I didn’t. The sensors get round this as now, the lights only come on when the beam is broken. Ideal. However, it loses a star not for the unit itself but for the software/Hue app and customer service. I have a sunset to sunrise formula installed for the evening which is works really well. It activates 90 minutes before sunset and is set to go off at a certain time unless I switch the ights off manually prior to going to bed. When this formula activated and then after that,a sensor was then activated, the sensor settings would override the sunset to sunrise formula which I didn’t want. There was nothing in the app to prevent this so I had to resort to a third part app (iconnecthue) for a solution and a very simple solution it is too: a simple button which you have switched on if you don’t want the sensor to overrride a formula or routine which has already activated. Why the Hue app doesn’t have this, I really don’t know. I contacted Hue support about this issue originally before I found the solution myself and also Hue beta and go no reply from either. My previous experiences with Hue Support have not solved other issues I’ve had either. To be honest, they were useless and that’s if they even bother to reply. The sensitivity of the sensor is better controlled by iconnecthue as well as it gives a specific percentage, not just the slider. The lower the number, the darker it has to be before the sensor will activate. To summerrise, great product let down by poor software and customer service.

I have been trying to get PIR sensors that actually work and work well. I tried a lot of the WiFi ones but they were slow to connect and operate. Initially I didn’t like the thought of the Philips Hue as a Hub is required. Giving in I gave these a go.Install of these movement sensors was very easy and straight forward, the operation and linking to other Philips Hue products are done in the app.Fitting to a wall requires a small magnet to be attached to the wall, the sensor then is just held in place by the strong magnet. The is no way to attach using double sided sticky pads, it has to be drilled and plugged hole or screwing on to wood or you could just leave on a shelf if required.Mounting screws and wall a plug is supplied.I was surprised these PIR movement sensors actually worked well, as soon as movement was detected the lights came on without any delay. A few little issues when setting up which would allow the lights controlled to turn on but needed to turn off before it would re detect movement. This was due to the light sensor in the PIR being set too high, while the light was on it thought it was daylight and prevented the sensor operating and detecting movement. This was able to be easily adjusted from the Hue app which gives indication of movement detection and whether the light level is set to allow the sensor to operate. In Apple home app, this seems to give a little more information from this sensor, it shows the lux light level, detection state and a temperature. I have not seen anywhere it says these sensors have a temperature sensor built in but does seem to give an accurate temperature for the roomOverall not a cheap buy but well worth it for a system that actually works well

These are much smaller than you expect (which is a good thing!). The magnet was so strong that I was able to put it on the wall by just moving it around until it found bit of metal behind the plasterboard :)The motion detection is very quick, practically instant, which is what I needed. I had been using generic smart life motion sensors with IFTTT to turn on Hue bulbs but it was just too slow. The default rules in the Hue app are fairly complete. You can have it turn on lights/scenes etc during two time periods and select how bright the room should be to activate and how sensitive the motion sensor should be. It's a simple IF MOTION TURN ON or IF NO MOTION TURN OFF.What you can't do are rules like 'ignore motion if the light has been manually set' or 'ignore motion if the light is already on'. So, for example, I have a rule which turns on an office light on low if you walk in, but if I then want it on high for a while, the motion sensor overrides this and puts it back to dim mode after a few minutes. If you always want a room in the same lighting conditions, then it would be absolutely perfect. There is a Hue Labs feature called 'Three Times a Charm' which allows you to configure 3 time zones for the motion detection, which is better and if you use the iConnectHue or Eve iOS apps you can add a little more control but I find using those can get a little confusing what you've set where.Additionally in the Apple Homekit app, this adds a temp sensor and a LUX light sensor but these cannot be used as automation triggers unfortunately, they are just there for information by the looks of it.As long as you understand the limitations of the rules then it's a nice addition to the Hue ecosystem.

Makes me feel like I am in the future or a starship when I walk in and out of my lounge. The possibilities of how to set these little sensor's up is probably endless. But as this was my first ever sensor, I just set it up quite simply in my lounge / kitchen so that when I enter the room, the strip behind the TV, the bloom and the kitchen strips all come on. I could have done this using Alexa, or my phone or geofencing even but this just seems so much more convenient as I don't even have to think about it anymore. I don't even have to think about if geofencing worked and successfully turned my lights off when I am driving to work. You can adjust how long it takes for the lights to fade off all in the Hue app,but you might have to play with this a little as if you have it set too low, like five minutes then you may find yourself doing a little dance or waving your arms frantically to stop the lights from turning off if you are sat in the room reading or watching TV. This sometimes happens when I am directly infront of the sensor at a distance less than two metres away. But strangely this works consistently from a distance of 3-5 metres. But it could be I just need to rethink the sensor placement. At present you can only have the sensor turn on to one scene in day and one at night. And if you change your scene to another colour it will default back to the default wake up scene sometimes when it detects motion. But it could be I am missing something in the app or maybe you can do more with IFTTT.Overall, I am really happy with the sensor and will be buying more soon especially for rooms like the hallway or bathrooms.

The Philips Hue motion sensor is a fantastic little device that is used to add motion and light level sensing capabilities to your Philips Hue lighting setup.I have 3 of these, the first two operate set of lights. The first is in my kitchen, another in the hallway and the third operates (under cover) the light of my front porch. What's particularly good about them, is that they can operate in different modes during the day, and evening. During the day, you might want them to turn your lights on in a dark room if the light level drops below a certain level. In the evening, you might want them to activate a dimmed light for a few minutes whilst you wander from room to room.(They're ideal for middle of the night trips to the loo!) All of this functionality is provided via the app, on iOS or Android and is very straightforward. The app can also adjust the light level at which the sensor is activated, or the sensitivity of the motion sensor. This is great, as you can dial back the levels at which the lights are triggered, to the point that best suits your requirements. They're battery powered, compact and very easy to mount. You can place a sensor on a bookshelf, screw the mount to a wall (there's a range of rotation on the mount too), or you can stick the mount to a metal surface as it has a magnet built in. I've been using 2 of the units for over 2 years and they're still on their first set of batteries, so there's no need to worry with regards battery life. So, if you have Philips Hue lights, you need one or two of these in your life!Would I recommend? ABSOLUTELY!

I bought this sensor for Black Friday for the hallway to replace my eufy motion lights as I had a lot of them and was getting annoyed having to replace the batteries every couple of months. The setup, like any other Hue product is super easy and only takes a few seconds. Opening the package takes longer than the setup in the app!I've got the sensor set on bright in the day, between 8am-10pm then dimmed at night. It's been working brilliantly except at the beginning. At night it was supposed to be dimmed but instead the light would come on full bright very briefly then dimmed. I couldn't get my head around what the issue was. I tried everything including changing the Power On behaviour, creating a scene... to no avail.Recently I've joined some Philips Hue Facebook groups as I love the products and posted my issue as I thought it might not be the default behaviour. Some people suggested that the bulb might be too old and that it's not supposed to do that. I didn't think it might be the issue as all my Hue bulbs are less than 2 years old for the oldest and I bought some more few months ago only. I decided to try anyway and swapped with my most recent bulb and it worked!!! The light didn't go bright before getting dimmed but was dimmed right away.So be aware if you own older bulbs, it will probably have that annoying behaviour. My only suggestion would be to try the above and it's great when it works like you expect it to. You'll have to update the room names and routines but it's still worth it in my opinion.

I have about eight of these now in my Hue setup and they are fantastic. They are responsive to motion (the responsiveness is even adjustable), and the lights react quickly to the commands sent by the sensor. Even better, they are now exposed to Homekit, so if you have an Apple Home setup, you can use these independently of the Hue system. For example, if motion is detected, change the temperature on your Tado thermostat. The're very easy to hang in the wall and look small and discreet. As an added bonus, if you add them to Homekit, they even tell you the temperature and the lux level! My only issues are:1. If you add these to a room in your Hue setup, they will apply their command to all lights in the room. For example, if you only wanted the lamps to come on and not the ceiling lights, this would not be possible. It'd turn them all on. Unless you created two rooms which doesn't seem logical.2. They can be set to only come on in certain levels of daylight - but configuring this is based on a slider rather than on lux level. For example, if I wanted to say 'only come on when lux is x', I can't. I need to move an arbitrary slider which doesn't help.3. There is no ability in the Hue app to have these work by sunset / sunrise. For example, I can't say 'only switch lights on if motion is detected after sunset'. I can do this with Smartthings. I believe you might be able to do this with other 3rd party apps and Homekit, but Homekit automations require a 4th gen Apple TV and 3rd party apps can be unreliable.

I've had hue lights for a few months now and they're great. I have most bulbs in lamps and have automations set up so I don't even have to turn things on and off manually (e.g. I use Siri to set scenes). The issue I had was with a bulb I had in the hallway ceiling fitting. Having to turn it on whenever I had to move around the house wasn't very streamlined so I thought about buying one of these sensors. After hearing the news that they can now be added to homekit I immediately bought one and set it up in the hallway.- Setup and usage -Really easy setup in the hue app. You can even adjust the sensitivity and daylight sensitivity. Now I have the hallway light come on whenever it senses motion during the evening and if it detects motion during the night it will come on but much dimmer (as to not burn my retinas). The response time is almost instant, my wife and I love it how we don't have to do anything but walk through.- Homekit (only applicable to iOS) -The benefit of the homekit integration is that you get access to the motion sensor, temperature sensor and lux sensor in the home app so you can keep an eye on how warm/cold it is in the room you have the sensor. I also have it set up to notify me of any motion detected when I or my wife aren't home to give extra piece of mind.Anyway, if you're in two minds as to whether this will benefit your current hue setup, just go for it. It's definitely worth it given how responsive it is and how small it is it can easily be hidden out of sight.

I donno what I would do without these “Philips Hue” Motion sensors cuz my wife and I are disabled and these light sencers are a life saver!! I have 2 downstairs, The kitchen and the downstairs light are both set up too come on together! And one in the living room whitch turns on both the room lights in there! And the 3rd one is upstairs too light up the hallway so you can goto the loo at night and you don’t have too search around for the light switch!! Obviously you gotta set the brightness and when you want the sencer too turn lights back off it’s brilliant I can now walk around to my house and not have too turn any of my lights on or off anymore!! And you set them too do what and when you want from the 5⭐️App on your phone!!If needed you can override the setting by your phone aswell...it’s such a cool App I have a flashing one in the porch just outside frontdoor!! It flashes Multicolours and the speed you want another great “Philips Hue” item, just make sure it’s not flashing RED I quite offen get rushed into hospital and when I’m asked were are you all I have too say just look out for the house with the flashing lights!! I could talk forever about “Philips Hue” items they are just fantastic!! Yes you could get them cheeper else were but if you take 1 thing away from this review just remember in this life is that “You Only Get What You Pay For” And n this case my friends you are paying for quality!!?✌️

I purchased this for one use, to put at the side of my bed so when i get up at night the light would come on just enough for me to see where i'm going and not crash into literally everything. Unfortunately i couldn't get this to work as i intended it to, it would detect motion, turn on the specific bulb at a low light for 1 minute then turn off all the lights. It was overwriting all the lights in that room depending on motion. Not quite what i had in mind. So i went into detective mode and i found a hue labs formula called 'three times is a charm' with this i was able to set 'night time' to the hours i would commonly wake up at night for instance to go to the toilet.I set night as 1:30 to 5:00 in the morning and i set the rest of the day (morning and afternoon) to do nothing so it didn't keep switching my lights on and off as it wishes. I could choose what bulb to turn on at what brightness i wanted. Perfect for my intentions to do with it.The magnet on the back is very flexible allowing it to be positioned in multiple angles and the magnet is very strong, its not going anywhere once its been put into place. Battery life appears to be good also, i haven't had any notification on low battery and it proceeds to work as instructed. Finally, it has a thermometer built in which is a very nice addition allowing me to monitor the temperature of my bedroom which again can be used with other hue labs formulas.

Would recommend this sensor as it’s small and does it’s job well for a small value price point.Sensor field:180 degrees. Seems to detect me with no problems at a 180 degree field of view but had a 1 or 2 second delay before the light pops on (I’m assuming that’s because it sends the signal to my bridge and then to the lights). Easily forgivable but would have been nice if it was instant.Price:Brilliant low price for a nice unit. Comes with magnetic attachment and screws in the box so you can literally place this as you see fit. You will not need to purchase a stand separately as it can hold its own standing up without falling over.Ease to set up:Very easy!I took it out the box and within about 2 minutes it was connected to my bridge and ready to use. Had to update it which took 15 minutes extra with 70mbps internet. It connects to Apple HomeKit as well. When using Apple HomeKit you can see extra data about your room as the device has a built in temperature sensor and light measurement feature (lux readings). I didn’t know it has these extra features so that was a nice surprise!Summary:Buy one of these things! You can set it so that if it hadn’t detected movement in 5 minutes it can turn off the lights, you can have auto lights on when you walk in the room. It has all your standard features and more!

So I have a house set up with many hue bulbs over 25 bulbs across several rooms. Most are controlled by google home devices some controlled by motion sensors and dimmer switches. I'm saying this just to show that I've set up many accessories including motion sensors.I had trouble setting up devices recently, new bulbs were not getting recognised like they used to, this is easily fixed by adding serial numbers rather than doing a search. However you can't add manually using serial numbers for the motion sensor, so when I encountered this problem again with the motion sensor it really slowed me down.I tried lots of things including:Using the setup button for 1 second again to put it back into mode for addingUsing the setup button for 10 seconds factory resetting the motion sensorChanging battery in the motion sensor (as sometimes these can reduce distance of signal)Moving the hub to the same locations (very close)Resetting/power cycling the hubNone of the above worked the below however didIn the philips hue app goto settings > hue bridges > select the i icon next to the bridge > ZigBee channel change > click change channel (this took a while) however after switching the channel I was able to add the motion sensor correctly.I hope the above will help some of you if you have the same problem.
