You've paid a lot of money for your camera. Don't compromise on the batteries!Panasonic sell this battery (which, incidentally, fits the new Lumix G5 as well as the GH2) in their own online shop for around £61 including shipping. It's not surprising then that lots of Panasonic camera users fall for cheap lookalikes sold here and on auction websites, such as those by Maxsima costing a measly £12. I was one of them, until I discovered the dreaded weakness of those imitations - they show a full charge, but suddenly die without warning - just when you're about to take the picture of the day!I've certainly learned by my mistake. Okay, buy a nasty cheapy to use in the most dire of emergencies but, without a shadow of a doubt, your proper spare battery has to be a genuine Panasonic one.For the sake of less than £15 more (a pittance compared to the cost of your camera and less than half of Panasonic's own shop price), you can buy that genuine one here on Amazon.Mine came within a couple of days of ordering from GEDeals. They were pennies dearer than all the other Marketplace vendors but are authorised Panasonic dealers and have the most positive ratings. It's identical in absolutely every way to the one that originally came with my camera. It holds its charge correctly and progressively shows Full/Two-thirds/One-third before finally Flashing Red.At this price, it makes sense to buy the real thing. Do it!

Felt obliged to buy this battery rather than a third party brand because of the way Panasonic cameras are designed. They only display battery depletion levels when their own brand batteries are used. There have been many complaints about this because own brand batteries are generally much more expensive than third party ones. This one was on sale for a reasonable price so I bought two of them.I'm fairly satisfied with the number of shots I can get with the battery. I'd probably get more mileage from it if I didn't delete or edit my photos as I take them. A couple of points - the batteries don't seem to charge for the time stated in the camera manual although I've charged them in the supplied battery charger. Also, the boxes my batteries came in stated that they're for the Panasonic G5 but they are compatible with the FZ200.Overall I'm reasonably pleased with this battery. However, unless being able to monitor the charge levels in the battery is essential, there are much cheaper third party alternatives. Whether or not they're comparable to, or better than, the Panasonic battery is something I can't comment on.

As a dinosaur who until recently was still using film in my Nikon. I am becoming sold on the benefits of digital, the one thing that has put me off going digital for so long is the annoying tendency for digital cameras to run out of power at the most inconvenient moment. Moral of the tale is to always carry a spare!! I suspect that the reason why the manufacturers don't supply their cameras with a spare batteries, is so they can sell you one at considerable additional expense. This battery is not cheap, but since I didn't want to risk using an inferior product - I wanted the genuine article. Amazon offered the most competitive price. It is a permanent fixture in my camera bag. When fully charged it has a useful life before it needs to be re-charged, this will depend of course on how long you leave the camera switched on, how much you use the flash, how much in-camera editing one does etc. All in all a really useful purchase!.

Bought this item, does the job, thought its better to buy the origional than another as it will probably have the same amount of battery life, was not badly priced however when i recived the product it shows in the istruction manual that the protective case is two parts however i only recived the bottom, i have informed amazon and they said they would look into it and get back to me in 48 hours, 5 days later I gave them a call as they had not called me, the gentleman i spoke to informed me that the team had told him it was fine and thats how all the ones they have are, they said they would contact panasonic and let me know once panasonic opened at 9am. Will let you know what happens

......... unless I'm totally losing the plot. I've seen a few negative reviews about the 'authenticity' of this battery but I cannot understand where they are coming from. I've inspected this battery (puchased from Camerabox, Kettering) from every angle, with a magnifying glass, no less, and I can see no difference whatsoever between it and the original which came with my G3. Also, the new battery charged up fine and fired up my G3 straight away, with no daft warning messages. If I've been duped, well, I don't know what to say. What I can say is that this battery works for me. And I see it's even cheaper than when I bought it last week! Almost tempted to buy another .......

I wanted a Panasonic brand spare battery for my new camera so was prepared to pay a little more. Well packaged and arrived within the advertised timeframe. The only thing not supplied (probably down to Panasonic rather than the supplier) is a plastic cap to cover the terminals - a requirement on aircraft and to stop them getting damaged in the camera bag. We could only put it back in the original box but the battery is a tight fit so I suspect it won't take many goes at taking the battery in and out for the box to split. We used the battery on a recent holiday and it seems to last as well and charge as quickly as the original battery supplied with the camera.

So many counterfeit batteries are floating around on on-line sites that it was with great trepidation that I placed my order and awaited delivery. I need not have worried. The supplier was Camera Box of Kettering; the battery arrived in genuine Panasonic packaging in two days from placing order. The price was also less than 1/3 of the panasonic list price. I charged it, fitted it into camera and it works perfectly. As I have the latest firmware on my Lumix G3 which detects non genuine batteries, this is clearly the genuine article. Very happy to recommend Camera Box of Kettering & I will use them again.

One of the criticisms of the Lumix G3 is that it is very heavy on batteries. Well I assumed the G5 would have the same problem so I bought two of these batteries just in case. However, I see the G5 manual asserts you can get 300+ pictures with the OEM battery and I'm finding that I'm getting very good battery life. Whatever, mindful of problems reviewers have had with knock-offs, I wanted to stick with OEM batteries so I went for these. I'm not sure how these can be the actual Lumix batteries but the price is great and the battery monitor works so no problems so far. Very pleased with the purchase.

This battery from this supplier is certainly the genuine article and worth the extra money you pay in comparison with alternative cheaper version. It comes in a box marked Panasonic and has all the true markings on the box with instructions too.Having just purchased a brand new Panasonic Lumix camera,I was worried about buying a spare battery from other site or sellers as some of the reviews were very unsettling, and I was NOT wanting to end up with a dud causing my genuine Panasonic camera to fail under warranty rules. So in conclusion, this is the genuine one.

Having read lots of reports of fake batteries I was supicious when ordering this product but couldn't find another that looked as if it could be the real thing.I charged this one and have used it over several charges and it appears to be ok. It is the same weight and size as the one that came with my FZ200 camera and has all the right markings apart from missing a Circle with PSE in it and the letters MBDB underneath that, both on the front of the battery. I cannot find a reason why it is not the geniune article.

The G3 is an excellent camera but the price of the batteries is exorbitant. Come on Panasonic. For those trying to save money by buying (cheaper) generic batteries - beware. If you are using a generic and the camera becomes faulty you will lose your warranty completely even if you have Panasonic's extended 5 year warranty! You will not be able to upgrade he G3's electronics (camera or lenses) either and Panasonic will know if you have been using generic batteries.

This battery is the same as the one supplied with my Panasonic FZ200 and it works in exactly the same way showing the amount of charge remaining in the display in the viewfinder and LCD screen. Seems to give the same number of shots as the original before it is empty. At this price I think it is worth getting the original. I have tried other compatible batteries and as well as not displaying the battery status correctly they frequently hold less charge.

21.12.2012

This item is the same as the original battery supplied with my camera and therefore works perfectly. I've tried non OEM batteries previously and have experienced problems, losing charge, not being recognised by the camera, inaccurate current ratings. In my opinion it's worth paying the extra for peace of mind. Shop around and you'll find them at reasonable prices. I've seen these advertised at over twice the price I paid through Amazon.

I highly recommend this is you have a G3, as the camera (whilst being fantastic in all other regards) is not famed for its battery life.I bought this after a lack of battery prevented me from taking some great photos in the second half of a trip out, and I now feel smug every time I run out of battery and get to go "oh wait!" and pull out this spare. Have never been bothered by a lack of power since - can easily shoot all day now.

13.4.2013

I have learnt the hard way that it is always better to buy the real thing, even if it does cost you more, as cheaper alternatives are not the same quality - they do not last as long, sometimes do not fit properly, and can in some cases even damage your equipment, which could potentially invalidate the guarantee. This battery then for me ticked all the boxes and did exactly what it said on the tin.
