After reviewing an article on the Nikon Website about bogus batteries;I decided to go with an Original product. This is an original Nikon Battery, comes in the official Nikon box, and was labelled "new".From the NIKON Website ;" It has come to our attention that counterfeit Nikon rechargeable batteries are sold in various countries around the world.Nikon rechargeable batteries are high-energy devices which are designed to respond to heavy power demand and are manufactured to strict standards of safety and reliability. Counterfeit batteries may not be equipped with safety mechanisms such as the protection device that is fitted in genuine Nikon rechargeable batteries. This may effect performance or in the worst case it could cause damage or injury to the person using the camera or charger. From a standpoint of safety and performance we only recommend the use of genuine Nikon products. "The bogus EN-EL3e batteries do not have the correct hologram (4 notches missing), no markings on front of batteryand in some cases offer the wrong voltage, do not have the charge circuitry inside the battery and can even cause firesdue to over heating.THIS battery IS original, works great in my NIKON D50 and has no problemscharging on the MH-18a charger that came with my camera. The battery also ships with a protective cover for the contacts when not in use and has full multi lingualinstruction sheet.

Being nearly 50 years old I come from a generation for whom batterys never lasted very long, in particular rechargeables, (I can't believe that I carried a pocket full of spare batterys for my first mobile phones!), so it never ceases to amaze me how long modern batterys last for on a single charge, I know that modern equipment helps by consuming less power, but the technology has really come on.These are no exception, they are almost 'fit and forget!' when I go out to take pictures with my Nikon D80 I am clicking away all day long, never really taken much notice of exactly how much I can get out of one, but if I go on a weeks holiday and use my camera daily, quite often I never have to change the battery,so I probably get 2000+ pictures a charge?Like most modern rechargeables the 'memory affect' is a thing of the past, gone are the days when you would ruin a battery if you dared to charge it before it was totally discharged! Both my batterys are around three years old, the D80 they power has taken nearly 30000 pictures, they all are still going strong.I always use Nikon accessorys with my Nikon camera, mostly just for peace of mind, batterys are no exception to this.Recently upgraded to a D7000 and the Nikon batterys for that last just as well.

If you have a D80, D200, D300 or D700 then you'll want at least two of these!Battery life will, of course, depend on the way you use your camera, expect your battery life to reduce by half when shooting RAW compared to JPG. It fall again if using the rear LCD and onboard flash a lot but I have found that Nikon's original battery provides significantly longer battery life than the third party equivelants that I have tried. My tip would be to have at least one of these spare and after everytime you use your camera, swap the depleted one, flat or not, for the spare. This will mean you always have at least one full battery. It's also good for your batteries as these Lithium Ion Batteries like to be kept at or as close to full charge as possible at all times. So by having two batteries now, you're actually saving money later! The real reason to buy another one of these though is so you'll always have enough power. No one wants to be cursing their camera when that once in a life time shot comes up. And one or two of these are MUCH smaller and lighter than a battery grip. This really is the essential accessory!

One of these batteries came with the my Nikon D700. I then quickly bought another as one was soon not enough to last a whole weekend's pro shooting. I then also got a S/H Nikon D200, which also takes these and did exactly the same, again. The grip I use with the D700 takes one to extend the life of the one in the camera and that'll cover any shoot, however long or energy-thirsty.So, in light of the above, I think I can safely say that I'm familiar and happy with the En-El3A. The price on Amazon means I didn't need to look (at least seriously) at cheaper generics and so I've never had to worry about compatibility or potential damage. One thing I should say is, though - the oldest battery/ies,though still in use and still keep their charge well, their contacts have become slightly pitted and clouded. This resulted, very worryingly, in a dead-battery symbol on the camera, when I was sure it was charged. All it required was some wire wool or other abrasive material to cut through this and it's back, as good as new.

I recently had to replace my "spare" Nikon EN-EL3e battery, (purchased through Amazon in 2009, which failed recently and I subsequently discovered was a fake). Having read many websites about these fake batteries I was concerned about purchasing another. However, I took the plunge and bought a new one from The "Camera Club" outlet through Amazons market place, (my argument being that a photography based company was perhaps less likely to sell fake camera batteries). It arrived very quickly (less than 48hrs). I rigorously checked both the battery and box and was able to determine it was indeed a genuine Nikon product. It charged OK and registered fully charged in the camera. So far so good.I expect to have no problems with this item but I will reserve judgement, (hence the 4 stars). The link below is clearly the best site offering a detailed comparison of fake and genuine batteries with clear photos.[...]

As I have recently set up a wedding photography business with a friend of mine, it was pertinent of me to order a spare battery.I charged it up once in time for a wedding, which we shot yesterday. I shot 502 photos yesterday using my D90 Nikon D90 Body Onlyand only lost 1 bar on the battery indicator! Please note that I was using an SB-400 Nikon Speedlight SB-400 External Flash the whole time, which means that the flash doesn't drain the main camera battery as the SB-400 uses 2xAA batteries for its power. However, i was also using a Sigma OS lens Sigma DC 3,5-6,3/18-200 OS HSM for Nikon and I had the Optical Stabilisation on for most of the day and that DOES use the camera battery to work.So in summary,to shoot 502 photos, with OS on and only lose 1 bar off the battery - means buying original Nikon is exceedingly worth it!

its pointless trying to write about this as a separate product - this is (as far as I know) a genuine Nikon product. in terms of both looks and performance (number of shots you can take with a single charge) its the same as the battery that came with my Nikon d90. thats about it. i bought this for a trek to Annapurna base camp in Nepal and while the cold does reduce the energy stored in the battery, its the same for ALL batteries and all electronic equipment. I got 500+ shots in the base camp and would have probably gotten more if i hadn't recharged it.just a word of advice to photographers - keep a spare battery.. you NEVER know when you'll need it. and plus if you're doing long exposures and shooting star trails in the cold..even if you have a recharge point nearby.. you need a second battery. i'm very glad i got a second.

Camera shops may tell you that Nikon do not make batteries (probably true) so you are paying extra for the "Nikon" label and would be just as well off with a cheaper compatible. My local camera dealer tried this one on, in fact the Nikon original was actually cheaper from both Jessops and Amazon than the compatible he was trying to sell me! Compatible batteries simply do not work in my D300 even though they charge OK in the Nikon charger (on one compatible battery I tested, the battery voltage was actually significantly higher which could damage the camera circuitry). I've used Nikon DSLRs for several years and have had no problems at all with the Nikon batteries.I would also be wary of using a none-original battery in any camera that is still in warranty. I'll stick with the Nikon original.

I hesitated about buying a second battery for my D90, should I buy a compatible or genuine? The price difference is significant. Also how do you know what is a genuine Nikon battery and what is a copy? After much deliberation and research I settled for a Genuine Nikon battery from "Brainstorms", based on the price and their 100% feedback rating. Not quite the cheapest on Amazon marketplace, but nearly! The battery arrived well packaged and very quickly using Amazon's free economy delivery. It looks like the genuine article and works ok in the camera, I have not used it significantly yet so can not compare with my original battery. Battery meter shows it as new so fingers crossed!

Needed a new spare battery for a Nikon D90 as sadly, my compatibles have proved to have a considerably shorter life than my original, which is now 4 years old and perfect. I was worried about stories of fakes so I bought from Amazon themselves. The battery is a beautiful example of a genuine Nikon battery, comes with the protective cover for the contacts to keep them in good condition and in an original Nikon box.The battery itself is exactly as I wanted, far superior to compatibles both in how many photos it can take (far over the 1,000 I've seen quoted for me) and I expect it to last as long as the one supplied with my camera. Highly recommended to buy!

I couldn't believe it when I saw this battery advertised by Amazon at such a good price. Must admit I was a bit sceptical as to whether or not is was the genuine article. I had previously bought an independent make battery from another source for my D700 and it was twice this price. However upon close examination this does appear to be a genuine Nikon product. If you need a spare battery for your Nikon camera, then don't hesitate. This is fantastic value for money for a Nikon battery. I have made a few Nikon user friends aware of this offer. Even if you don't need a spare you should still be tempted to buy one at this price. You simply can't go wrong.

The battery arrived within 4 days of ordering which is pretty impressive and was initially worried about some reviewers saying it wasn't a genuine Nikon battery:This IS a genuine Nikon battery (or a damn good copy) - it look exactly like the one I got in the box with my Nikon D90 camera so I'm pretty certain this is a genuine Nikon battery and a very decently priced one at that.Very pleased with this product. I've not had chance to test it out over a long photoshoot yet but I'll update this review if I come across anything out of the ordinary.Nikon EN-EL3e Rechargeable Battery

31.1.2015

Bought this particular battery because I needed a new battery for my D70 and I didn't want to pay over the odds for it. Prices vary on this battery enormously.Had the battery now a couple of weeks and it works fine. It doesn't drain as quickly as the third party ones and fits the camera. I would recommend being cautious when it comes to batteries for high end DSLRs. Making sure you have the right battery for the camera is important and being aware that a third party battery won't work as well as a genuine camera one for your brand of camera is always worth saying.

If only the high street brand names would get real with their LiON rechargeable battery prices. This price is competitive in relative terms but you can get Hahnel equivalents much cheaper, I am just unsure if they are are as good as they used to be (I have 4 equivalents for another (canon) camera and one died on me), yet I have an old monster for an Olympus that still outperforms even the Olympus original. So I went for the expensive branded solution and it appears genuine (including the hologram on the rear). Delivery was REALLY fast.

I bought this battery as a spare for my Nikon DSLR to take on holiday in the arctic during the winter as I'd read that camera batteries can discharge quickly in extreme cold and didn't want to be caught without my camera. This battery was the identical model to my original. I have to say that both batteries, the original & spare, lasted very well in the cold conditions and there was never a time when I was caught out. It's always useful to have a spare camera battery and I'm sure this will come in very useful again.
