I am definitely not an expert when it comes to phones (my last phone was a Samsung Galaxy which I had for nearly 6 years before the obsolete OS became incompatible with too many crucial apps), so I can't really judge how the Huaewei Smart 2019 holds up against the new high-end models, but from an everyday usage perspective I've been very happy with it.The interface is generally very easy to use, and the Google vocal assistant function is pretty helpful with navigating various settings and features when you're still getting used to everything. It isn't perfect, as you sometimes have to use very specific phrases to get the right options (re-calibrating facial recognition, for example, took numerous attempts and word combinations before I was eventually directed to the setting in the phone itself), but I certainly found it to be beneficial overall. There are numerous options when starting for the first time to import data/settings from your old phone as well, which was great (though possibly limited only to Android devices and/or Google drives), and made the transition relatively painless. For hardware, the handset itself is quite light for its size, and the screen is very big and looks great. Again, my basis for comparison is a much older model, but the Smart 2019 really blew me away in terms of the base aesthetics. It comes with a plastic screen protector but nothing else, so you'll need to get a case if you want to keep it protected. I also had a real issue getting the SIM tray open, as the pin simply had no effect until I eventually found a youtube vid which suggested inserting the pin while the phone was upside down and pressing down with the phone, which somehow worked. This is definitely a flaw with the tray mechanic but not a dealbreaker.Facial recognition is a nifty feature too, though it seems to really dislike glasses (which I unfortunately wear all the time), so the usefulness is very limited. The fingerprint recognition works fine though, and is great for several apps that I use frequently (like banking). There a lot of other apps as well that I'm still exploring, and you can dodge all the unnecessary bloatware by just opting out of the Huaewei account when you start up the phone for the first time. Though with a hefty 64GB storage (plus option for additional storage via SD cards), a few pointless apps here and there aren't going to cause any real problems.I've yet to properly test the battery life, largely because there are a wide array of options for power saving and app management to optimise battery life for different levels. Even without much tinkering and with mild use, my phone has been able to last a full working day without requiring charge which is all I can really ask of it. The phone charges with a micro-USB connection and also has a headphone jack, both of which are a plus for me.All in all I'm very happy with this, and for the price it seems like a brilliant bargain. I only knocked one star off because of the dodgy SIM tray I had with my handset and the poor implementation of some of the apps.

Bought this to replace an old phone with newly shattered screen. It wasn't immediately clear (& we hadn't followed the news in the last year or so), but this phone is locked out of the Google Play store, so you can't get the regular apps that way.I decided to keep this phone and gave my partner my 1yr/old Huawei Y9-2019 (which is allowed into the Store), because I wanted to try unplugging myself from the Google ecosystem. I'm mostly using the F-Droid app repository (rest are downloaded or from Huawei's store). I'm very happy with the result - I only have this one USB-C cable (our only device right now). Charging is quick - I only need an hour a day and can usually go two days between charges.I use the phone a lot for podcast listening, email, news reading from RSS & Twitter, messaging (WhatsApp & Signal), and Internet hotspot for my house - not huge amounts of screen time, so that's a big factor in battery life. The on-screen fingerprint reader is not nearly as good as the "back of phone" unit on the Huawei Y9, but it still works most of the time: finger must be completely clean & dry (instead of mostly), correctly positioned (still need to look at it to correctly place finger; the recessed hole on Y9 meant I never had to look), and it seems to not work well in bright sunshine. Also, it takes significantly longer (maybe 1 sec instead of ~0.1s). I used to be able to have an active phone in the time it took to retrieve it from my back pocket, but now it's not so "smooth" - still faster than typing a passcode!

This is an amazing phone for the price. Picked this up for £160 and worth every penny but had to return because of 1 major issue for me.THE GOODScreen quality - - Great for the price. Only downside is the blacks are not that black but that's it.Finger print recognition - - Amazing, works every single timeSpeakers - - OK but not the best. However, amazing for the priceBattery life - - Great battery lifeCamera - - Amazing Camera (see image). For the price this camera is great. Only downside is there is no slo mo but I never use that really anyway.THE BAD (minor downsides)Phone comes with some bloatware (pre installed apps) however 1 reviewer gave this a 1 star because of it but it is very minor and hardly an inconvenience. The usb type c charge port, little annoying to plug it in as it can only go in 1 way, not that annoying though.THE UGLYThe sound when you have headphones in is extremely quite in my opinion. You can make it a little better in the settings but still in my personal opinion I always think its a little low and try to turn it up more but its at max. However saying this for £160 it is still decent and if you don't care much about loud music then it's fine but I like my music a little loud. However music is a big part of a phone for me, it's basically the 1 thing I use it most for so I am having to return this one to find another.Overall this phone is a great pick up for £160 but if you love load music it's not for you.

I wanted a good looking phone but without the high-end cost and chose the Huawei P Smart. I thought I would be making compromises due to it being a 'mid-range' phone but here I am writing this, eating my words. Why? For less than £200 you get a stunning 6" plus 2K screen, a light and gorgeous looking phone with capabilities that are way out of its pay grade. The dual cameras on the back are great quality, even in low-light/night time scenes and the OS flows beautifully between tasks. The compromise is the build, yes it looks high quality but in the hand you can feel it's plastic and it doesn't have that seamless finish** that £700 plus phones have but then again, for a phone with such a huge screen/decent battery/light and extremely comfortable to use - for me this is worth the trade off in it's finish. **UPDATE after a week of use I was not impressed that I could feel a gap between the edge of the screen and its borders - closer inspection revealed the phone came with a factory fitted screen protector already on. It's well fitted for protection but I had to removed mine - the phone now feels far betterI bought this as a temporary replacement but I don't actually think i'll stop using it. Watching videos from Netflix, youtube, vevo etc is pure joy, the screen is landscape heaven. The only thing that lets down it's media capabilities is the single speaker - it's not bad but it doesn't match the quality of what you are watching

This is a very attractive phone with it's back colouring, narrow surrounds and thinness. It came with a pre-fixed screen protector, presumably plastic film, a non slip clear plastic cover and a set of wired earphones. Also, of course, with a UK mains charger and lead. The screen is clear, sharp and depth of colour seems absolutely fine. The camera takes good quality photos, much better than my previous mobiles and the videos come out well. I don't have any problems with the audio or earphones, if I want to hear music or listen to my videos I transfer either to my tablet or TV. All in all, I'm delighted with the phone. Why only four stars, not five? Probably for the same reason as other reviewers. Not all apps are available. It was easy enough to transfer apps, contacts and photos over from my old mobile, an Honor Android. Some apps didn't come over, some I managed to obtain in a different way, some had acceptable alternatives, but half a dozen are not yet available on this platform. No great problem as my wife's mobile and my Android tablet cover them, so hopefully if I'm patient they will arrive one day.Emails, texts, phone calls and most importantly WhatsApp work extremely well. In essence, I completely recommend this P smart S, providing of course that one can be patient for the missing apps.

[I should say that I bought this phone for a friend but I did spend time using it while setting it up. So these are just my impressions for spending a couple hours with it.]Hardware wise this phone is fantastic for the price. It feels really well built and I can't really complain too much about the specs. You get what you pay for. The phone felt reasonable smooth to use and didn't slow down too much.Software is where the phone disappoints me and stops me buying one for myself! I will give it credit as it comes with the latest version of Android (Pie 9.0). The thing is that Huawei fills their phone with a lot of bloatware apps that you need to uninstall (if it lets you!),you can't customise the phone much without downloading apps or rooting the phone, and overall there is a lot of Huawei features that don't really add much over what Android already has to offer. If you just want a cheap well built phone that can take photos, browse the web, watch videos, listen to music, access social media and don't care about the overall software experience then it's no doubt a fantastic phone. If you want more of a "stock android" feel then you'd probably be better off looking at the selection of Android One phones.

I am a fan of not buying into the big contracts for a flash phone you only ever use 25% of the features and actions on, so I tent to buy budget phones that pack a punch, I have always opted for the Moto G range, have had the Moto G1/2/3 and 4, which have been great phones and market leaders in the budget space, however always one to try something different, the last phone I had we the Outkitel C11 Pro, bought through amazon which again was a good phone, but dated and was not as good as the Moto G's had been.So I began the search for a new phone Samsung A10 looked good as did the Moto G7 or G7Power but I kept looking to explore all option and I wanted a phone to last for a while as well, enter the P Smart 2019, watch YouTube videos on it and read reviews and all stuff it could do, it was a premium phone but a budget price. So bought it and have to say not looked back, very impressed.the camera and photos are such and advancement on other budget models and looks stunning, can finger print up quickly but such a good phone and I would say takes the crown from the Moto G range this time around, 64GB storage is a nice bonus as well, plenty of space for all that you need.

This phone amazes me. I've been an android user from back to the galaxy S2 etc. Had iPhones and now I'm an android man. So I know my phone's quite well. At present I have a OnePlus 7 pro and a p smart 2019. Let's just say if I had to leave my 7 pro at home and use this instead I'd have no problem with that.It has 3gb ram which does the job fine. The screen is crisp and sharp. The battery is great. The camera is decent. The fingerprint scanner works every time and it's fast. Normally you would purchase an android phone around this price point and have to forgive it's sluggish performance but it's not the case with this phone. It really is a snappy little performer. The plastic build is a plus point I feel as it makes the phone nice and lightweight as well considering the screen size. The only drawbacks I can think of is it has micro usb not usb-c and the speaker ain't the best. But it still charges fine and you can use headphones anyway. And it has a headphone jack and expandable storage. My advice as an experienced smartphone user would be. If your looking for the best android phone without breaking the bank. Just buy it instantly.

Lovely large screen display with high pixel density giving crisp pictures.Have phone set to always stay in full resolution (higher battery drain) and even so, battery life is very reasonable, lasting most of the day with, what I would say is heavy use. Performance I think is great and have been able to play every game that I have wanted so far. Some of the Huawei apps are a bit cringey and invasive (in the sense that you cannot remove them and they'll still try to launch themselves and ask you to set up an account).Despite having a newer version of andriod loaded, seems to lack some basic quality of life features I loved from my old phone, such as detecting a power-up in your pocket,or detecting a case closure - both are simple proximity sensor triggers but will have to put up with accidental phone calls to people in my pocket like its 1999 again.Ear piece speaker seems to be lacking as sometimes struggle to hear people.Overall a large improvement in hardware from my old phone, but seems a step back in the OS compared to xiaomi.

This is a fantastic phone for the price. The screen size is impressive, utilising the dewdrop front facing camera and having thin bezels, there is little space on the front of the phone not dedicated to screen! It is also worth noting that it comes with a screen protector already applied, which is ample to prevent scratches etc. I suspect you will need a case to keep this phone safe, but this is usually the case with most phones. The camera performs well for the price, but obviously is not up to the standards of the flagships... in good lighting it works a treat. Performance wise it is ok, but for a heavy user looking to play games etc. it may not be up to the mark. For general web browsing etc.it should be fine. The older version of the P Smart is still at £150 at the time of writing, and for only £40 more you a much more modern and up-to-date handset that offers great value for money. If you are looking for low price, a great amount of screen, a decent camera and steady (if not spectacular) performance, I would recommend.

First and foremost for the price of this phone, is quite hard to get one with overall better specs, yes you can find one with better screen, a better camera or something else that you may value, but taking in account all the specs it is really hard to find one so good. The phone not only have an amazing size screen but it is also Full HD (1080 x 2340 pixels) in addition to that you also have a pretty decent camera capable for video 1080p at 30/60fps. The phone counts with a powerful octa-core and 4Gb of RAM and a massive 128GB of storage, something that allows you to easily overcome all types of use, even the most demanding games, from what I've been able to try.Unfortunately it does not come with Android 10 like many other 2020 models, something that could be a down side for some. But in any case, we are not talking about a top of the line phone we are talking about a low budget phone and if you do not plan to spend much on a new phone, this could be indeed one of the best alternatives in the market.

1. Replaced a 2018 GalaxyNote8 which had serious issues2. Screen is incredibly good. Sharp and vivid picture.3. Camera OK but not as good as premium branded phones. Still it's amazing for the price.4. Battery life is amazing. Lasts all day with moderate to heavy use. Quickly charged with supplied leads.5. Bloatware is annoying on Huawei so just don't register for a Huawei ID on setup. Easy.6. Great call and audio quality7. Handles all apps the same as the phone it replaced if not betterFor a £180 phone, this has replaced a £900 phone without any issues whatsoever. The screen cost me £270 alone to replace on my previous phone! The gap in tech here is so small between premium phones and these style phones it puts other tech companies to shame when it comes to pricing. This phone is cost effective to replace if you ever had a disaster and needed to.If I broke the phone by accident, I would get it again without hesitation.

Coming from a iPhone user for the past 6 years on, this is a great phone for the price. It gives the feel of a " top end * phone for a very reasonable price. All you could buy from apple at this price is a 3-4 year old phone ?The screen quity is perfect, nice big and bright. The notch design is great. All functions are great in my opinion, even the camera which some say is poor. Battery life big plus aswell. The only thing I can pick is the loud speaker, it's not awful but it could be better.Along with others I've not signed up to the Huawei side of things because of the reported bloatware so can't comment on that.I'm not a fan of all the Google smart assistant etc so with the features turned off and the relatively low app content I download I have a good ad free experience so far.If you're sitting there considering this phone like I was, buy it. For the money it's a great buy with great top end features.

Got this to replace an ageing sony xperia z2. Was so surprised at how good it was for the money. Minimal bezel means big screen space. This model still has google play store so i'm still in familiar territory. The camera might not be the best but the app is fully featured. Still has slot for microsd. Speed has been alright. Battery lasts me just under 2 days. Few things i dont like about the UI but i think this is more an android 10 issue, making the home button less responsive because of the asisstant feature on the same button. Yes there is bloatware you cant remove on the phone, but i never made a huawei ID and unlike others i have not had things like wallet pestering me in any way.only big negative ive found is that my usual call recording app doesnt work so need a way around that. Otherwise fab phone if you havent got money to go nuts

Fantastic budget price mobile phone!I'm used to high end flagship mobiles from Samsung and apple. I wasnt entirely sure if this phone would meet my demands. The design of the phone is nice, does have a little plastic kinda feeling to the back of phone but I've got a case on the phone so that feeling is now gone.Downloading all my apps I used on my Samsung and then using without any flaws at all. I wasnt sure 3gb of ram was enough on this phone but I haven't seen any issues with that. The screen on the phone is flawless, responds to each touch and the colours on the screen is brilliant. My favourite is the finger print scanner, not a new feature to a phone as many has had them before but this one is super quick at reading your finger print and unlocks your phone within a second. This phone is worth the price.
