I am a long distance hikers with two Appalachian Trail thru-hikes under my belt and around 5,000 miles hiked. I've used and been exposed to many types of packs from those weighing ounces to 5 or 6 lbs. But I've never seen a better made pack than the Osprey Exos 58. My first impression was good at REI when I loaded it with all of my gear and put it on was bliss as it fit comfortably and was so light. As I hiked the pack continued to meet and exceed my expectations as I exceeded the pack weight limitations of around 30 lbs by 15 lbs with 45lbs with a weeks worth of food and water. (Not recommended long term)I love the "trampoline" where the pack frame is about 2" off of your back and a mesh sits on your back so that wind passes between you and your pack preventing the awful sweaty pack back! I'm not the only one who loves this pack as on my AT thru-hike this pack is becoming the dominant pack in the AppalachianTrail community. Check it out for yourself and you may soon own one of your own! - Squarepeg 2013 250 mile Appalachian Trail section hiker, 2015 & 2016 Appalachian Trail thru-hiker.

I sent in my previous Exos 38 for repairs and received a new one in return. Service was excellent. This new version has bulked up and gained weight but it's still a light pack. Some of the materials have changed to be more durable but the overall design is the same. It retains the Airspeed suspension with upgraded hip fins and is still the most comfortable pack I own. It can easily carry loads up to 25 lbs. Improvements include the addition of an axe bungie, lengthening of the pad strap so that a pad actually can be strapped on easily, and more durable side pockets. These pockets still have top and back access so that you can easily remove and replace drink bottles on the go without taking the pack off.My only complaint is that the hip fin pockets have been eliminated. I rarely take my pack off, especially in winter, and having the hip pockets to carry my food was very handy.

Replaced my Mountainsmith Mountainlight backpack after 15 years of use and thousands of miles(Backpacker backpack of the year 2001) with the Exos 38. The Exos is a sweet pack, it hugs my back tight, it's lightweight, and great ventilation along my back area. After many hours on the trail I barely feel it on my back. The only downside and the reason for the four stars. The pack protrudes so high above my neckline that when I look up during steep/scrambling conditions, the back of my head hits the back of the pack, limiting my area of vision. I've tried to see if the straps are adjustable and they don't seem to be. So if there is a route that consists of steep climbing conditions I will leave this pack at home and take another for safety concerns.Other than that I highly recommend this pack.

After months of searching for a good pack for day hikes up 14ers I finally choose the Exos 38. One of the best packs I've ever owned. The removable top compartment isn't a feature I'll ever use so the extra material that serves as the secondary top cover is a slight annoyance. The top compartment also doesn't sit very well if the pack isn't fully loaded up. And other than the lack of color options(wishing there was a dark grey/burnt orange, but I'm nitpicking) this pack is solid. I've used the 38 and 58 on multiple 12+ mile hikes and never had any problems. Still amazed that it's as light as it is for what it can carry. I used to be a devoted Black Diamond pack user.Osprey has pretty much won me over with the Exos.

Excellent hiking pack with lots of room and is water resistant for any light showers. The frame curves slightly to fit your back in a more natural way which is comfortable. However this means that it is a bit awkward fitting things inside the pack and, more to the point, finding something! It is also has surprisingly large dimensions for a 38L pack which was surprisingly. Very tall and kind of wide, but doesn’t stick out very far. I suppose this is on purpose to help keep your centre of gravity more central and make it easier to be carrying the pack for long days.

This is my go-to backpack for extended backpacking trips. It is lightweight without completing sacrificing framing so it does handle heavy awkward objects, such as bear canisters. Obviously built with minimalism in mind, Osprey has done certain things to make it more comfortable. I do not recommend heavy loads with this pack. This is for the lightweight backpacker only.

This pack is really comfortable on a day trek. It has enough space to extend to a weekend trek if desired. I sweat a lot, but the design of the back of the pack keeps me reasonably dry compared to anything else I have tried. I am amazed at the lightness of the pack - I hardly know that I have it on. I can not recommend this pack enough.

It's well made tho the waist strap I found a little bit to short but had spare webbing so made a new ones. Don't like the fact you have to buy a raincover as most rucksack there standard. Also I missed the pockets but apart from these niggling things it seems a good pack

I have used this pack on many 1 or 2 days hiking trips. Feels great and confortable. Many practicle and handy pockets to load food and small items. The pack is light enough to be taken on long one day hike and roomy enough to pack goods for a night under the tent.

My first foray into the "light weight" pack world. I know there are lighter packs but for me, the cost and weight and brand recognition (my second Osprey pack) helped make this decision easier. I like the pockets on the outside and material used. Very good pack

Fast delivery, great product! Slightly less space to fill it up with clothes as I expected but very comfortable to wear it! Just done a 3 months travelling with this backpack and I'm glad I decided to get this one!

This is a pack that you can forgot about once you put it on. I carried 25 lbs including the pack the first trip that I took it on, and it was very comfortable. The pack is well designed and high quality.
