This is a one big Nerf gun! The packaging states it’s suitable for ages eight to eighteen. Whilst I can see many younger kids desperately wanting a Nerf gun like this, I think it’s probably best suited to young teens and adults. It really is very large, and weighs nearly three and a half kilos with batteries. On the subject of which, it doesn’t come with any batteries, and it requires six of the big D type batteries. The cheapest I could find them was on Amazon and they set my back seven quid on their own.The product arrived without a shipping carton, just with its retail box to protect it. The product wasn’t damaged at all, but it might be worth bearing in mind if you’re trying to sneak it into the house surreptitiously. You get twenty four Mega Nerf darts supplied, which is enough to fill the large rotating drum once. The drum comes in several parts which need to be slotted together but it only takes a minute, a couple of other parts also clip on here-and-there, and a decent shoulder strap is also supplied. There’s a small trigger that you pull to start the motor spinning (sounds a bit like a hairdryer) and a larger trigger that you pull to fire the darts. The Mega Nerf darts whistle as they glide through the air, which is quite atmospheric. The darts are fired about 20 meters (indoors) at a rate of a couple of darts every second. It’s not terribly accurate and I lost two darts the first time I emptied the magazine - so it might be worth ordering some spares. It will take you a couple of minutes to gather up the darts and reload the drum so bear that in mind. I think overall this Nerf N-Strike Mega Mastodon looks a little more impressive than it actually is, but in the right hands and at the right price it can certainly be a lot of fun.

When this arrived my son thought I was the best Father ever. What follows are a combination of his and my thoughts. This nerf gun is the most amazing toy I have ever had in my life, even at the age of 21 I've had so much joy in playing with it and completely terrorising my friends and family. Not many things bring me happiness in life but seeing the look on my partners face when i walked in the room with a nerf gun the size of my body was absolutely priceless. What I found a shock was how light it was given the size, and it's really easy to carry around because it comes with a big strap that goes over the shoulder. There are a few things I would mark down on this toy, one of them being, for an £80 purchase you would expect this toy to come with batteries and it doesn't, which ended up costing me £9 (for the cheapest batteries i could find) before i could play with it. The assembly was unnecessarily difficult as i needed a very long, thin screwdriver to put it together properly, which a lot of people may not have. It is also very loud so a sneak attack isn't possible. Trust me, I've tried. The only other thing i could mark it down for is the fact that the gun takes 24 nerf darts and you are only supplied with 24, so unless you have a trackingdevice on each individual dart, you will definitely need to purchase more, so for £80 I think it would be nice if you got a few spare darts with the gun. Overall though, I would rate this toyA 4/5 down to it just being the coolest christmas/birthday present ever and you being the person with the biggest gun when playing nerf wars.

Little moan first, arrived with no outer extra packing, postage label was pinned to the actual box, the box was pretty badly damaged, Nerf was okay, thankfully, If it had been a present it wouldn’t have been a massive disappointment as nothing hiding the box, moan over. The Nerf N-Strike Mega Mastodon Blaster is a big Nerf Toy, you use this with a shoulder harness is that big.Chamber holds 24 darts which will take time loading and not much time emptyingWhat really makes this Nerf is that is a powered Nerf it does require D batteries for the dart chamber to rotate, this will add something to the weightIncludes 24 Mega Whistler darts, these are the ones that you hear when flying through the air.The is very little accuracy with the Mastodon, its basically just going to blast away, you’ll find it hard to not want to just blast the whole lot, that does then leave you the job of collecting them and then reloading.Me and my son enjoy a Nerf as we both enjoy a fun night at our Karate club, everyone brings a Nerf or If they don’t have one the club has some, we then build barriers and obstacles, we then play different games all around dodging a dart, they really are a great bit of fun and add a bit of a team building to the dojoThe Nerf Mastodon is again an amazing toy, I love it, but it is big, takes a fair amount of time to load, its fairly heavy, not one to be jumping over obstacles with, I keep this one for when we play a version of dodge ball, called dodge the dart, like to see them avoid this ones hail of darts.

My Kids love Nerf guns but this one has to be the best one yet. A large, very solid, heavy impressive looking NERF gun that looks menacing when wielded, with a good rate of fire and decent range, My kids are 5 – 7 and although the little one struggles to hold it she still likes to look mean with it on, but would definitely recommend it for kids at which it is aimed at due to its weight. The gun takes 6 big batteries, but only uses the power once the power trigger is pressed so should last a decent amount of time before needing more. The assembly of the gun Is fairly easy with clear instructions. The rotating drum comes in three parts attaching it to the main part of the gun, there are a few external pieces to attach and then decide which hand you want to hold the additional gun support handle in and its ready to go. The gun has 2 triggers one to power the drum and an additional one to start firing. Once the motor is up and running you get a high rate of fire and decent range with the drum emptying rather quickly, great for raining down heavy suppression fire on the enemy, zero points for accuracy though! Then its operation clean up. One advantage to this is that the bullets are much larger in comparison to other NERF guns which helps greatly in operation clean up and the drum design on the gun is really easy to reload.Overall great looking, solid, menacing NERF gun, kids love it!

I've recently bought several types of NERF gun.... Im no expert but I can at least compare a bit. So, the MASTADON... now at £48 on amazon.... no brainer, GET ONE!!!.... your "kid" will love it..... I found it to be reliable, quite accurate, frankly awesome to look at....BUT... be aware.... it is big and bulky... do not buy it for your little 5 y.o. Jimmy or Zoe... even though it electric a small child will struggle to wield this monster (for the little uns... which I am assuming you will buy eye protection for ?!?!?) I would recommend the Mega Cyclone (which I bought for a friend's 5 y.o. lad.... he LOVES it especially as "Jim" (me) supplies him with replacement darts every now and again)....Sorry back to the Mastadon.....the only other BUT....be prepared to re-supply with extra darts... considering this thing lets fly 24x darts in about the same number of seconds, you will see them disappearing pretty quick... (probably best place to play would be on a nice palying field, short grass, acres of space... but nowhere to hide??... no fun)Seriously though, NERF guns.... if you got no probelm with the "gun" aspect then these things are in general well worth their money.... seem pretty robust (that Cyclone has been left in rain, mud, straw... you name it...and so far still working!)...worth looking up reviews on youtube... enjoy

The Nerf N-Strike Mega Mastodon Blaster is the beast of the Nerf Mega series. Its 24-dart motorised fully automatic rapid-fire ability and high accuracy will pretty much obliterate any opponent using smaller guns.My nephews love having nerf wars and usually get me to join in by shooting me. Obviously, being the big kid that I am, I have to return fire, but not before they've taken all the good guns and leave me with the worst. The only way to solve this is to get the biggest and best gun possible with the Mastodon fitting that description nicely. In hindsight, I should have perhaps videoed their reaction when revealing this gun as it was hilarious to see them scatter for cover, unable to move from a hail of nerf darts coming their way. The only disappointing part is, that it literally takes seconds to empty the barrel despite having 24 darts. Still, it's a thoroughly enjoyable experience using this gun and I can't recommend it enough. It's worth pointing out the sheer size of this gun does mean it's not suitable for smaller kids. My Nephews are 8 and 10 (similar in height), and they were just about big enough to cope with holding and operating this (using the strap).

The arrival of this whopping great gun has unleashed a reign of terror in our household that would make even Al Capone fear for his safety. I can neither confirm nor deny that I, a grown man, have been directly responsible for most of it, but it’s been great fun nevertheless! That’s said this gun does have one great and very annoying flaw: it has a tendency to jam. A lot. You’d also be best advised to buy in extra darts to replace the legions that you will lose every time you fire the thing. Batteries are also not cheap as it requires four massive ‘D’ batteries. These flaws aside, this massive gun nevertheless is great fun, which for such an expensive outlay it needed to be.If you want your kids eyes to pop out of their head when they realise what you’ve bought them for a present, then I suggest you look no further than this. Just remember to duck. A lot!

This is the beast of Nerf guns. Yes, it takes big batteries, but they last a decent time as you are only using power when the trigger is down.Assembly is pretty easy. The rotating drum needs to be put together in three pieces as you feed it through the main part of the gun. Clip in the extra external pieces and then decide which hand you want the handle in and it's good to go.This gun is not going to win very high points for accuracy but then the sniper rifle is not going to rain down a fast pace of fire on the other team. There is good power and range in this Nerf blaster. It is very quick to reload as you just need to push new darts into the front of the cylinder.Another benefit is that the bigger bullet are easy to find in the aftermath of battle.Powering up the gun creates a whirring noise that invokes dread in the enemy ... be warned :)

The Mastodon is big beast and comes with a neck strap to allow you to hold the Mastodon one-handed, if needed. It's pretty heavy for a Nerf gun, so it's a logical addition. The Mastadon is manageable for adults and larger kids to use without it, though the strap makes the Mastodon more manageable. To keep the packaging size to a minimum, there's some assembly required. The drum must be assembled from three parts that slide into position, the top handle must be fitted, the protective cage on the underside of the drum needs clipping into places, and the strap needs to be attached. It's not difficult, but it's not fool-proof either. If you follow the instructions, take care, and you'll be fine. There's a large battery bay for 6 D-Type batteries which must be accessed by loosening two screws.

Bought 2 for sons for Christmas - I liked the price I paid on offer but original price is a bit steep! Takes 6 Batteries that I haven't had to replace yet! But they do jam with bullets intermittently, which doesn't ruin the fun but annoying but not unlike other Nerfs. Both were difficult to get started - need to make sure batteries are secure and screwed lid on tight! For a moment I thought they weren't going to work in our Christmas morning rush - so get them filled before wrapping I would say if presents! It really is a Nerf-nerd's dream!

We've got a few Nerf guns but this is our first motorised one and it's a blast! It's pretty big and the suggested 8 year old starting age is probably do-able but it's better if the 8 year old is big for their age as it's quite hard to carry while running about for the littler ones. It does have the carry strap to help take the bulk of it though which is handy. It definitely looks the business and aim doesn't need to be too accurate as the rapid fire compensates for poor tactics. A great addition to our arsenal!

The mastodon is pure excess. With a drum that holds 24 mega darts, requiring 6 D cell batteries and fully auto - it's not for your average Nerf war. But it is a ton of fun. Every shot has a satisfying thud followed by the whistle of mega darts flying through the air before smacking their target in quick succession. It's heavy, bulky and slow to reload. Other than that it's fairly comfortable to use and puts a big smile on your face.If that's what your after and you can afford it then let rip.

27.12.2017

Bought this when it was reduced down to around £40, this was used in a nerf street war this christmas, where all the adults and kids took part, stepping out with this bad boy totally blew everyone away and being able to fire 25 bullets in total at rapid speeds was an added bonus. Needs six size D batteries, so don't be stung like I was when hardly any shops were open and ended forking out nearly £14 on batteries, get some cheap ones from your local pound shop.

27.12.2016

I don't know who loves this gun more - my son or my husband.Don't do what I did and forget the batteries as it takes 6 D batteries. Now this gun is huge and weighs quite a bit.It is also quite loud so beware.Having said that my husband and son haven't stopped running round after each other with this gun.The bullets don't really hurt and haven't broken anything so far.I can see most of the summer is going to spent outside with this.

It’s heavy, takes too many batteries, sprays big noisy nerf darts violently in all directions, makes too much noise, takes up too much big orange room for almost any sensible home, and is potentially dangerous to our precious children’s eyes. What’s not to like? Let your children play with their moduluses and nstrike toys, this is the grownup tool for parents to turn to when there’s a serious need to lay down the nerf law.
