Bought as a replacement for a worn out and no longer available Logitech M525 desktop mouse. The replacement Logitech M545 has thumb buttons which I didn't want. The Microsoft 900 was the closest I could find for size and shape. It's slightly larger than the M525, but similar overall design. In fact the slightly increased size makes it more comfortable for my hand.Installation on a Windows 10 PC was a breeze, true plug 'n' play. But be aware the USB receiver sticks out about 17mm, further than the 10mm of the Logitech version, so this could be an issue for a laptop. Although, given the size of this mouse, it is really not aimed at laptop users. The pointer settings for the M525 worked well with the 900,didn't need to change anything there to obtain the responses that work for me. Buttons are light but positive, and I didn't have any issue with sound which is very similar to the M525, audible but not intrusive. My main grouse is with the scroll wheel. Firstly be aware it does not provide the left/right click feature, so an issue if you need it (I don't). The issue that does bother me is that the wheel is stiff and jerky to rotate, nowhere near as smooth as the M525. I seem to remember a similar issue with tailed Microsoft mice back in the day, so maybe this is what MS mice are like. It doesn't make the mouse unusable, and I expect I'll adjust to it (writing this after a couple of hours use). This issue is the reason for 4 stars rather than 5.Can't comment on battery life or durability, so the 3 stars don't mean anything really. It feels well built, and if battery life equals the M525 (up to a year ofmedium use) I'll be happy. There's not a lot of alternatives out there for an ambidextrous cordless mouse of this size and shape, and despite the scroll wheel issue I think it represents good value at the price.

For years I have used the same thin sponge + fabric top mouse mat. Mice from the old roller ball type to the current optical types have used this mouse mat with no difficulties. This Microsoft mouse does not like this mouse mat at all. For a time it will operate correctly and the suddenly it will make the cursor jump rather than move smoothly. My other mouse mat a commercial "gift" has a hard very lightly dimpled surface and with multicolour text and images. The Microsoft mouse is absolutely happy on this one.Why two mats? Usually I use the mouse left handed so that I can take notes using my right hand. The fabric surfaced mat is to the left of the keyboard, the hard mat being on the right. This is only used if my left hand or arm starts to ache."lIGHT BULB MOMENT". Although the dongle is only 47Cm from the fabric mouse mat there is the metal mass of a small fanless PC between the dongle and fabric mat. Moved the dongle to a USB2 socket only 25Cm from the fabric mat with no intervening metalwork.. It looks as though my problem is solved. The hard mat is now 50Cm from the dongle but with no intervening metalwork. The mouse works OK on both mats.

Brought this as wanted some wireless freedom at my work desk, and the wired mouse that was there before was too small, inaccurate and caused my hand to cramp after a full days work. The good- First of the packing was nice and presentable giving the impression of a quality product- It it not quite a full sized mouse like the mice of old, but a good size and fits nicely in the hand- The scroll wheel works well and is not too clicky when scrolling- Came with 2AA batteries supplied, and there is an off switch under the mouse which is handy if you're not planning on using it for a whileThe not so good- The finish for this one is quite glossy which is not easy to keep clean from fingerprints- The left and right buttons are slightly loud when clicking, much more noticeable in quiet environments- The wireless receiver does stick out quite far compared to other ones I have used in the pastOverall though I am very happy with the mouse and would recommend it. It works well and has proven to be reliable and durable.

I know this is a question of personal opinion but I always found that microsoft makes excellent mice. This one is no exception if one looks for a basic mouse. No bells or whistles just left and right click and wheel with click too. Well built, smooth buttons and wheel and the possibility of customization downloading the microsoft's software for keyboard and mouse (I use the wheel click as backward for the browser). You may use it with one AA battery or two ( 107 or 128 grams). It fits quite well in the hand (for me the ideal size) and may be used by right or left hand persons. So, if you look for a basic and comfortable mouse with no problems with windows software (10 included) look no more, this is an excellent choice with a pretty good ratio quality/price).

A good basic mouse. I've read the Amazon reviews for sub £12 mice and this one works well for me. It's not a small mouse, but I have large hands and work from a desktop, so portability isn't an issue. I'm probably described as an "above average" keyboard/mouse.user. It takes 2 x AA batteries so expect it to last a long time between changing batteries and the micro dongle can be stored in a convenient slot between the batteries if portability is needed. I've tried a couple of other makes and got fed up with them.I'm not someone that needs 5 different buttons on a mouse. I just want something that works, has a reliable left/right click and a reliable scroll wheel. It's black, gloss and a bit plasticky, but so what? It works.

This is a nice mouse, it's the third one I've purchased. I use my mouse virtually every day for several hours at a time.I buy this mouse because the buttons are configurable, and I like to use the Wheel Switch as a Double Click.Sadly the Scroll Wheel isn't as robust as Microsoft no doubt believe, and my two previous mice suffered Scroll Wheel fatigue... They didn't exactly fail, but they became very 'hit and miss' with a sloppy feel.In both previous cases the scroll wheel failed before the batteries did. I thought the problem might've been due to low battery voltage but fitting new ones made no difference.Poppa.

Supposed to be a full size mouse. Are hands getting smaller? I would say this is a three quarter size mouse but anything is better than a mobile - can't even feel them in my hand. It's slippery like a fish. Took some getting used to because previously I had a FULL size MS mouse that felt like I was actually holding something. The ratchet scroll is not too bad, not like turning a cog in a clockwork mechanism but its not smooth and did make my finger sore for the first few days of use.Suppose I'd better deal with it because they don't make them like they used to.

if you have giant hands and want a straightforward mouse this is the one , unfortunately I don't have hands like shovels and found it too big for me to be comfortable and to add to it a shiny top so hands kept sliding off it so I sanded it down which helped but still to big , also not as precise as my old bluetrack one that this isn't , also the usb dongle is bigger than most generic pictures show as its an RF version

Microsoft do make decent peripherals certainly. They are tough and reliable as a rule but often a touch over priced. This one wasn't and will be a hardworking addition to a busy office. Also I find the smaller mice more commonly found for sale occasionally awkward to use with my longer fingers so its nice to see a proper size done instead of the flood of cheap "mini Mice" more commonly seen.

10.6.2017

I find few of the mice on sale are full size. This one is. About 115mm. This helps relax the hand. It can run off 2 or 1 battery. It has an on off switch on the bottom but goes into a power saving mode which can wake up only by moving the mouse.Only negative is the dongle sticks out 10mm so can't be left in a laptop. I bought for a work desk top so fine for me. There is no dpi settings.

A nicely weighted and ergonomic mouse. Not too small like many mice are nowadays.Reception is good. Accuracy is good. Can't comment on the battery life yet as it has only been in use a few months. There are some reviews here saying that this mouse looks cheap and plasticky but I have no idea what those reviewers think they are seeing - it looks and feels anything but cheap.

10.2.2020

Being an old guy I find the larger size of this mouse helpful. There's nothing flash about it, the set up was easy and trouble free and so far it's performed perfectly. It doesn't have a fancy shape, it's just a mouse - so no view on ergonomics. Too early to talk about battery life and I'm not interested in gaming so have no view on that either. It's just a mouse!

Similar shape to Microsoft 1000 and just as weighty ( two AA batteries ) which I prefer over the lighter models. Not as robust though and some batteries are impossible to insert ( lengths can vary depending on make, even though they are all AA size ). Very smooth plastic top which I hated, but have almost got used to now.

4.11.2018

I have been looking for a mouse that has some "body" to it - -which has some weight and I can grip easily. This one came nearest to my search. It works well and I am not annoyed by lightweight mouse which causes the screen contents to jump all over the place.

I had one of these for the past 5 years of so, but after much abuse it needs replacing, so here we are. This is just as good quality as the last, so expect it to last at least as long, and who knows, I might actually look after this one a bit better.
