It’s a great activity for a child who loves constructing, especially when he can depart from instructions. However I do think the product description is totally misleading. I had ordered it online but had to exchange it at a local store. According to the assistant “assortment” means you might get a different box of different pieces to the one on the picture which led you to choosing it as appropriate. One set can be made into ATVs and buggies., the other into frogs and dragonflies!

Really pleased with this. Kept my 5 year old and his uncle very happily occupied on Christmas Day. The pullback works well. Only negative was when ordering I didn’t realise that there were 2 different sets and it’s pot luck which one you get. Green insect or orange car. Do not feel this is made clear enough on the order site and don’t dont for the life of me why argos do it like this. Two completely different areas of interest.

Perfect toy for 6 yr old he was really happy with it...that was until the axle broke off when the car hit the wall under it's own pull back and let go force. I am very disappointed in the lack of sturdiness. I expected better from this brand but it isn't what it was in the past. Children's toys should last longer than a couple of days and a few hours normal play. It seems the plastic is just not tough enough for normal play.

When delivering this present to my grandson I discovered my son in law and five year old grandson engrossed in the construction of the very same kit! So I swapped it at Argos for another Meccano set. It is an excellent, versatile product with pull back motor and the large wheels enable the vehicle to climb ramps.Granddaughter likes it too and it's great to see them wielding the screwdriver and spanner. Recommended!

I've knocked a star off my review because it claims that there are 2 additional designs online, but this isn't the case - I've checked direct with Meccano and they don't have them! However, the toy is brilliant. My sons has loved taking it to pieces and modifying it. Hopefully the pull back mechanism will last - I'm never convinced by their robustness, but we are a week in and it's still going strong.

My 6 year old boys love this. The instructions need an adult at times to build exactly as the model but children can modify and adapt. One of my boys loves the box as much as the contents! Only one vehicle can be made at a time so be prepared to photograph before dismantling to avoid tears! It is a random green or orange box. One box was very scuffed so I ordered another which was fine.

This kept my 5 year old grandson and me amused for hours. The quality of this product is A++ and with the 5 different designs you are sure never to get bored. I was with my grandson for 4 hours and only made one and he never lost interest. I also found it educational with it being fun. A big thumbs up Meccano, you definitely got this one right. Highly recommend.

My five year old grandson (and I!) had great fun making this up on Christmas day, and he's thoroughly enjoyed playing with it since. I'll look forward on his next visit to taking it apart with him and trying out the other designs.I certainly recommend this for several hours quiet and enjoyable play.

Havnt given it to my son yet as it’s a Christmas present but looks amazing and for a child who loves building stuff and thing he can do by himself ( he is autistic and dosnt enjoy playing with others) this is perfect and is something for him to contract on when his anxiety’s get to much for him.

My 5 year old managed to build this with minimal adult assistance. He's spent hours playing with it. The instructions are easy enough to read and understand. Took him a good amount of time to build and the tools have big chunky handles so no need to worry about him not being able to grip it.

This was a great gift for my nephew on his birthday. The only thing was wen I was ordering it I expected to get the car version instead got one about insects this is not clearly defined in the Argos catalogue and told by staff it’s a virtual lottery as to which version car/insect u purchase

Really great kit to spark a youngster’s imagination and help them learn the basics of construction and hand skills. Included plans were easy to follow and left the kids with a sense of achievement when they created their model that looked just like it did on the box!

Bought this for my grandson's eighth birthday. He had had a similar meccano set before and struggled with the construction and tools, needing help but this time with a slightly simpler mode he did it entirely by himself without even an adult on hand for advice

Great set, my son is 5 yrs old and managed to make it by himself, admittedly the first time the car went backwards but he worked out which bits to change and sorted it in a few minutes. Quality product with a sturdy storage box. im a happy mummy.

This item is set is a lot bigger than you'd think - you can make four different vehicles all with a pull back and go motor. Comes in a sturdy white storage box so no bits and pieces should get lost. Ideal for my 6 year old to build her cars!
