I bought this after reading the rave reviews and both my children (2 and 4) do seem to like it very much.I do think, however, that the pieces are rather difficult to slot together (certainly for a 2 year old) and the instructions are difficult to follow. My 4 year old daughter seems very happy slotting them together and making necklaces, flowers etc.. but at the moment has no real idea how to follow the instructions - and neither do I!! but she loves it and I think it is good for her imagination and spatial skills. She caught on very quickly. My son (2) gets excited when he sees it and calls the pieces 'trampoline'and can slot a few pieces together. He likes the different colours and would probably be interested in stacking and sorting games - except he wants to be like his sister. The pieces are brightly coloured and sturdy - pretty durable - which is good considering they are likely to get thrown about.I think it is something that you can continue to get pleasure out of for a few years - I think the 3-10 age guide is valid.

I guess it just depends on what your kids prefer. I bought this one for my 21 month old boy. He loves shapes like this, loves to pick them up and hold in the hand, transfer from hand to hand, from place to place, insert them where they fit ;) I didnt have illusions that he's start connecting them right away, he's a bit young for that, but I can imagine that time will come. Great creativity toy, endless possibilities of playing with it.My biggest concern was the size of it and wether pieces are too small and therefore a choking hazard for small ones - but since they are 5,5 cm in diameter, I would pronounce them safe ;) They are made from tough plastic and in 6 bright colors (small objection: two colors are almost same shade, like light orange and darker orange). I don't know how safe they are to chew on though. But since recomended age is from 3 years on, you have to be a bit careful after all ;)

I bought these for my 4 year old son. If I'm honest I thought they maybe a bit babyish for him as hes really into lego (which I hate). However I thought for the small cost even if he didn't like them I could pass them off to some1 with a younger child. When my son opened them I showed him what to do. Within minutes he had taken all the orange and yellow ones and made a sunshine. Then green and pink to make a flower. I was so pleased that not only had he made something recognizable, he chose colours, you his motor skills and had fun! He then went onto make all sorts of things. Ok so his tractor didn't look exactly like a tractor but this was a fab find for my son. Would really recommend.

I bought lots of Galt toys when my own children were small as they rarely disappoint. The quality is consistently good, First Octons included. The disks are sturdy and bright and, I would imagine, will last for a very long time. A further set would enable bigger structures to be made and I will probably buy another box if the Octons prove popular. The skill of slipping the disks into one another is a little different from other building blocks. Our 2 and a half year old granddaughter still finds it tricky but she loves us to build for her and is keen to try for herself. Also the disks are fun for lining up, counting and colour sorting!

I saw these and thought they might be something my 6 year old would like but the 2.5 year old could join in with. They are really sturdy plastic pieces, don't bend and would take something tough to break these .I love the bright colours reminds me of the 90s when everything was florescent colours. The instructions on things to build were alittle confusing (maybe its me!) I loved the idea you can go rogue and just see what happens then call it out later. We winged it and made our own stuff. I made a very camp he-man sword because thats how I roll, my son made a mine craft sword so its really good for getting the imagination flowing.

As the title suggests one pack is not enough as building with these is both addictive and competitive (amongst adults).Based on other reviews, I purchased these for my nearly 3 year old son and he is really enjoying learning to connect them together. he has to concentrate to slot them together and sometimes it doesn't work first time, but with practise he is getting there. They are bright and colourful, feel durable and long lasting.Overall a good product which encorages imagination and concentration - just what I bought it for. A second pack is on my sons birthday list.

I came across these octons while doing a search on amazon for some contstruction toys for my little boy...that is something he did not already have....at first he was like no way i don't want this toy, now he loves it! I took them to our church where my husband is the pastor and there was 8 of our church kids having a jolly good time building with these otons. Now I am buying several more sets as there were not enough for all to play. This is a really great construction toy. Would highly recommned to anyone looking for a creative toy for their kids.

My parents bought these for me when I was 2, I am now 40 and still have nearly the whole pack - They were see-through when I was a child. My mum recently bought them for my 3 year old, who loves them - Constructing all sorts of things, mainly things to keep her horses and dinosaures in! They are excellent quality, incredibly well priced (I think my parents paid £2.00 in 1973!), they don't break when you drop - throw them across the room and I know they will be in our family forever - And now my near 10 year old girl wants them too. Triple Star.

Bought these for my one year old and ended up getting two more - one for my seven year old and one for my 5 year old. Great for them as they love constructing things and then using their imagination to play with them and great for my one year old as they're nicely tactile and offer numerous ways to play - stacking, flipping, learning colours, making exciting shapes etc etc - all good and we like these very much - they don't take up much room either and are a perfectly reasonable price considering the long shelf life!

This is an ideal first constructional toy for young children. It is so simple to understand and put together that children can use their imagination to create whatever they want. It's simpler and less restrictive than other construction kits. My grandsons (3 and 18 months) love it and play with it whenever they visit. We had an old one from the 70s which eventually began to break. The new version is made of a more durable plastic and should last for several generations. Every family should have this toy!

This was bought as we thought it would be educational regarding the different shapes/structures that could be constructed. The multi-coloured pieces add to the fun element as we try to build trains, snakes etc. Think my husband has had more enjoyment than our daughter. The slots on the pieces are a little tight so you need strength and technique to securely hold them together. My daughter (just 3) lacks the former but has mastered the latter. The pieces seem quite durable but it's early days...

We visited the Design Museum in London (well worth a trip) and the one thing that stood out for our 16 month and 6 years old children was a similar toy. However hat stood out about it was the extortionate cost - nearly £20.We found this very similar set, from a great manufacturer and bought and received it quickly. Our children have since played with it for a good while and always with joy and involvement. Thus I would thoroughly recommend.

Octons were a firm favourite with my 40+ year old twins-----now my 5 yr old grandson LOVES them. The colours are better than they used to be and the octons stimulate the imagination and problem solving skills----I would rate them as a "MUST" if you are looking for educational/ construction toys. My only criticism is the unclear, black and white photocopy-style instructions-------for really young ones coloured diagrams/ideas would be far better.

It is a very bright and colourful toy with no sharp edges, hence perfect for toddlers. You can make various shapes using the discs - we made a bee, some flowers, a crown, a car and even a dog.. I am sure over the weeks we will make a few more shapes:-) I think it is a perfect toy for building your child's imagination. Even the price we paid was good.. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and would definitely recommend it to anyone.
