This router has SOOOOOO much power it's almost scary. I use it 90% off the time inverted in a router table and I would argue with anyone if they tried to tell me that there's any better 1/2" router out there for this purpose. There are so many good points about this that the bad points are irrelevant to me. There are a few though that other reviewers haven't focused too much on:1. It's heavy - not the right tool for smaller jobs unless it's in a router table.2. The switch can be a bit vague in trends of whether it has latched on or not, which it needs to when it's inverted in the router table. I get around this by latching it on using the normal tab beside the switch and leaving it in thisposition and then plugging it in through a router-table-mounted NVR with a big emergency kill switch that I got from Axminster for about £10. That then switches it on and off without reaching for the switch and slightly fiddly lock-on tab on the router itself.3. The LEDs fitted to light the workpiece stopped working after about a week. I don't care because they're no use in the router table anyway. I might be because it's inverted that these died in the first place. Actually... they do come on, once in a blue moon workout any explanation and go off again in the same way.4. The two stage release on the collet nut. It's just annoying. I don't know why I find it so annoying, I just do.5. The multi- height roasting plunge depth control turret is really crunchy and the indexing is really vague. Again, not a problem on the router table.I rave about this tool so my negatives might seem bizarre but I just want to inform potential investors in this tool that it's not 100% amazing as an all-rounder.

This is an outstanding piece of kit. I've been a carpenter and joiner for many years and had quite a few routers, I've been doing mainly residential contracts for some time so needed a 240 volt 1/2 inch router I could use on site and in my workshop. I was torn between this and a Dewalt but opted for the Makita, I have to say I'm pleased as punch with it. I purchased it from Amazon because the price was good, I've had it since March 2017 so wanted to put it through it's paces before I wrote a review. You expect quality from Makita and this is no exception, the build quality is excellent and it has more than enough power to handle just about any routing job you can throw at it. I've done lot's of jobs with it,this week I made a staircase for a loft conversion. I routed out the stringers, rounded over the steps like a hot knife through butter. It comes with a quality adjustable guide, dust extractor attachment, 1/4 and 3/8 inch sleeves that go inside the fixed 1/2 inch collet and spanner. It also had an attachment for adjustable the depth if you want to use on a router table, all inside a sturdy case. I'm not one for buying rubbish or cheap tools, I want to do a good job and make my life easier. This Makita router defiantly does that, highly recommend!

Needed a more powerfull router than the two excellent Makita ones already being used for my bathroom and kitchen jobs. apart from a few specialistHitachi power tools, I've bought and used only Makita power tools from heavy breaking and drilling 110v types to their great 18 volt cordless tools. allhave proved their worth to me in the last 16 years and in that period as a full time self employed Plumbing/heating and gas engineer my seventeenMakita power are still in daily use. Having read all the available reviews of the RP230cxk/2 and their competitors I bought the Makita, and found itmore than justified the outlay. From the reviews I expected dust extraction problems and I found none. The power and smooth and chatter free evenwhen cutting 40mm worktops, although like many others I prefer to do 2 passes on hard materials. OK, I admit that the handle mounted safetypaddle-type button IS a little hard to get used to but thats a minor point. Another MAKITA tool that won't let me down. I LOVE 'EM! Bill.

Brilliant in almost every respect. It feels very professional and powerful and is a world away from my last £70 router. I guess you get what you pay for but, unlike my previous routers, I suspect this won't go bang in the middle of a job and end up in the skip after 18 months. Also, it comes in a proper carry case which has spaces for cutting bits and a 30mm bush and, crucially, has enough room to wind the cable up and put it away properly. If I was being really picky, I'd say that Makita might include the 30mm bush with the router, rather than having to spend an additional £12 on one

Tons of power, well made and easy to work with. This is not, in my opinion a DIY machine but one for the pro's. It's heavy and better used for the tougher jobs like kitchen worktops etc. This is my second makita router and my old one is still going strong after ten years of trade work. Only reason I bought this one is my old makita has a toggle switch start-stop and is a bit dodgy if it is in the on position when you plug it in (tends to leap off the bench).

Absolutely the perfect tool for cutting worktops & stripping wood to size. It’s heavy duty but nice grips. Don’t waste money buy buying cheaper brands if your doing loads of work domestically or commercially, had brought up to now 2 cheaper brands and both have packed up. In theory it cost me more buying the cheapest brands. On the negative side you don’t get and half or quarter inch cutters in the case, so be prepared to spend a little bit more.

This is a very large and heavy router. Powerful, accurate. To mount it under a table, you need to find a couple of 10-11mm bars that go into the guide holes of the base. These then held in a couple of angles that themselves are bolted to the bottom of the table. (you do not bolt the router directly to the table). There are pics online. It's pretty quiet too, for such a massive machine. You can't go wrong with this.

The router is excellent, an expensive but quality product. It does seem crazy however that you dont get a base that allows you to fit guide bushes for using a jig? You need to have a Makita specific guide bush adaptor plate and that seems almost impossible to find? The seller didnt help much either? So i bought a universal base for another £30 but its not great. Spoils what is a good tool...

As a property renovation company we do lots of tasks. We bought this for kitchen fitting and although has used some cheaper ones before had no experience with this. Would definitely recommend. The box isn’t great but the tools is spot on.

I've used it multiple times now and it's just a great product as to be expected for the price. The build quality feels like it'll last years. It's easy to use along with the right router blades work brilliant.

Fast delivery and the router was in perfect condition. I'm using the router for renovation of my kitchen. Installing a sink in my laminate bench. And further a will develop my skills on how to use the router.

This is a top piece of kit. Lots of features and coupled with the Makita rail and Bosche plate gives a very versitile and accurate tool for just about anything

12.3.2018

Used to route a 12mm solid laminate worktop. Worked a treat. It's a solid, reliable and easy to handle tool. Needs good quality bits to compliment it.

7.2.2019
