Spent a lot of time researching this one and think it's the best handheld router out there today. It's very light (3kg) and can easily be used with one hand which is perfect for jobs like routing our door hinges using the fixed base. The clear base and bright LED light that shines wherevery you're cutting means you can get a very precise job cutting freehand as well as using jigs. While it's got a small motor compared to a full size router this is still a very powerful and high quality bit of kit!I initially used it with the fixed base to fit hinges to a dozen internal doors, a couple of heavy external doors and the door frames/linings. The plunge base with a long reach bit made short work of cutting holes for mortice locks and handles. It didn't miss a beat. I'm struggling to think what I'd need a bigger router for given the power of this thing and the light weight but perhaps that's a lack of imagination on my part! Over the last few months it's also been used to cut shelves to fit, a kitchen worktop and various other jobs around the house. Simple and sturdy = very impressed.Other Good stuffComes in an indestructible Dewalt tough case.Dust extraction is simple (I really should use it more often!)Simple depth adjustment (unlock, twist to depth you want, lock, done).QuietAdjustable speed - consistent regardless of loadCompatibility (easy to find accessories - works with Trend templates and attachments)Bad stuffThe on/off switch is a very small rocker switch under a neoprene cover located on the side of the router that's fiddly to get at during use.Lots of little screws and accessories for changing the base - these should really be better stored in the case because they'd be far to easy to lose. I've ended up just putting them in a little plastic bag inside the case to make sure nothing goes walk about.FYI - I also looked at the equivalents from competitors before settling on this. My first thought had been get a Trend T4 or T5. Asking a few woodworking friends pretty much guided me away from the T4 due to reliability problems. After looking at the T5, Makita and Bosch equivalents in the flesh the Dewalt felt the most solid and with the plunge base covered everything I need. Plus every Dewalt tool I own has worked perfectly but I've been through a lot of (admittedly much cheaper) Bosch tools over the years.Hopefully this is useful for anyone trying to make the same decision :-)

Very cute router that is a definite "go to", but does lack some features that it should have.I have a pretty big collection of routers, several of the larger DeWalts included. I have to say that while this is a good solid tool, as usual from DeWalt, I was a bit disappointed with it. It does everything it should do, and it does it well, but it shows absolutely no innovation from the routers I bought twenty years ago.The height adjustment is out of date. Even cheaper routers now have adopted better height adjustment and by that I mean a knob on the top of the router that is clearly marked in mm. Not only that but DeWalt have removed the fine adjustment to the fence. That meant I had to go out and buy a trend fence to use with the router!Dust collection is surprisingly ineffective. I find that most of it fires out the back of the router. I can't really understand why that is, but there you go.A real safety failing in my opinion is the fact that the router can be switched on while it has been removed from a base. That's really dangerous. The location of switch is what you would expect for a cheap router. It really is not convenient where it is, and DeWalt should have worked on a trigger on one of the handles.Really I think that many of the features of this router are worse than the old DW621. The one thing that is appreciably better than all their other routers is the way the lock works. The level is pulled to unlock and released to lock, which is the reverse of the other routers and even better than the DW621 for which the lock is built in to the left handle. All in all it's a lovely little router, but I think it could have been better. Sorry, DeWalt, but you lose one star.

As usual, the build quality is great, as you would expect from DeWalt. Everything is easy to use, and set up and all the kit feels sturdy.I work in film and events carpentry, so I tackle some very substantial jobs. I have to say, it's a pretty powerful little tool too. That being said, I haven't had cause to tackle anything really strenuous with it yet, but the smaller trimming, and cutting I have done, it managed with no effort at all. Which leads me to think it can handle some pretty big cuts. Maybe not really massive 25mm ply cutting or anything big like that, but morticing, trimming, edging, rebating and cutting thinner materials are absolutely no problem for it.If I had to level one complaint at it...It would have been nice,at almost £250 if it had a power switch on the detachable foot plate, instead of having to use the on/off rocker switch on the main body. This is a feature included in some other brands palm routers. That being said, I'm nit picking really, as I've had no issues reaching up and powering off the tool, so far. It would just be a nice feature to have.I have used my workshops Makita palm routers a lot, prior to buying this, and this outperforms them massively! I wouldn't go back for a second!

I needed to put a roundover on a straight piece of oak worktop for a utility room. The quote I had was roughly the same as the cost of this router, so I thought - how hard can it be?!I have always been practical and have construction experience but am only just getting into woodworking. I started researching routers and this Dewalt kept popping up everywhere; it is versatile and user friendly.I do not regret going for this dewalt and others that have had a go absolutely love it compared to their bulky, heaving, (terriyingly?) powerful routers). It is a great confidence builder, and when paired with some advice, youtube and offcuts - quick to get to grips with how this should be used. The dust extraction is fairly effective and paired with some decent Trend router bits,is generally a joy to use. Perhaps not a first choice for kitchen fitters or cabinet makers but this would certainly complement their 1/2" router in useability. Decent blow molded case too - a bit of a rarity these days!

I purchased this router a couple of months ago. I must say it is excellent. The fixed base is ideal for hinge cutting and trimming, and the plunge base works smoothly for other operations. I also like that the plunge base lock is push to release as opposed to push to lock on. Much nicer to use in this format. It is also pretty quiet as far as routers go. But, there is one thing that makes it lose a star from me, the power chord is that dreaded type of cable that has a horrible memory to it, rather than hanging nicely, and packing away nicely it is just horrible. it has that silicone smooth feel to it like you expect on a good machine but don't be fooled. Come on Dewalt, my planer has a nice cable, why can my router not have a decent one.

I have been looking for a router for a number of months now, I have researched routers to death and I final took the plunge and bought this DEWALT router. And well I haven’t been disappointed with it, which is something I do not expect to happen with DEWALT products.I bought this plunge and fixed base router and to be honest it’s the best thing ever. It oozes quality, easy to use, well built and anyone from a novice to a professional will find it to be very useful addition to his/her tool kits. The Tough Tool Box it comes with is generous in size and holds everything in place when on the move. I try to make use of it on most if not all my projects and I am always looking for a reason to useit.

Really like this, although haven't yet had a chance the play with it too much.... however, the reason for only 4 stars is that the router body actually slowly moves within the plunge housing when in uses, so needs frequent adjustment and if you're not careful, inaccurate depth of cuts. Other than that, great piece of kit which I'm looking forward to putting through its paces over the years!

This is an addition to my bigger 1/2 ins router. It fits the bill well and might be used more than it’s bigger brother. Only downside was I didn’t have any 1/4 ins router bits. Have made a small router table for it and it all works very well. If you don’t have a router this may be a better choice than the big brother. It’s likely do most things you want to do.

I've used this router for over a year now.....as a hobbiest.....and I think it's great. I've used it both as a palm router and also using the plunger and it is very easy to use and set up. The 'screw' design makes it infinitely adjustable for height. It has a nice feel about it and seems to be made of very high quality materials. As a 'non-expert' I love it.

Although a complete novice as far as using a router is concerned, I found this item to be of the highest quality in terms of build, design, presentation and ease of use. Adjustments are intuitive and the method of swapping from plunge to fixed base straightforward. I'm very pleased with my DeWalt router and look forward to making full use of it

One drawback an attempt to remove the base in order to add another has been at this point non productive the 4 screws had obviously been inserted by machine and though I was able to break the surface tension on 3 of the screws the 4th will not move and due to inferior metal the head has become damaged.

Other reviews say how good this is. They're right - it's a joy to use. Price was good as having tracked it for a couple of weeks on Amazon the price dropped momentarily to £234 so I snapped it up. Just to confirm that thus product CAN be covered by DeWalt's 3 year guarantee when registered

I’ve used different routers before and thought about buying a cheaper one before splashing out on this. I’m so glad I bought it. The LED lights are great, the motor is quiet and powerful, it’s a joy to use. Haven’t used the guides yet but they seem sturdy when attached. Quality.

My boyfriend opened it for xmas and din t talk to me or anyone else for 30minutes as he was so busy saying to himself how much of a good machine it is and how well made it felt. Point taken it is a good router if you used something else than makita or hitachi before.

Works well, good torque and easy to use. Cable is helpfully long. Very happy with this. Small, compact size but decent power. Using as a normal router and attached to CNC and works well in both situations.
