I bought this router at B&Q as it was a Bosch, and was on offer at £20.00 reduction.I suppose the first thing to say is that if I was considering this product for professional trade I'd spend the extra and go for a 'professional' router with fine adjustment capabilities and proven longevity etc.Having said that, if I was starting out with little cash, I'd be confident in its abilities, and use it as a second router when I could afford the 'proper' stuff. It is extremely comfortable and stable in use, and despite being confined to quarter inch, 6mm and 8mm router bits, ploughs through anything you throw at it with nice results. I used it straight away on renovating an old wooden sailing boat, tackling some meaty lengths of wood, and it didn't flinch..............especially impressed with its deep and long rebating ability.I've also used it to build speaker cabinets of various complexity and have found that the guide plate (provided with attachable pin) allows you to rout perfect circular, rebated speaker apertures extremely easily and accurately, despite it not having fine tuning capabilities. It will also rout down to a very tight radius. The template guide provided, in conjunction with home-made and appropriately shaped and sized jig, facilitates the cutting of weird and irregular shapes, quickly and accurately.I noticed in a previous review that reviewer said you couldn't use the 1200 AE in a router table because of the safety trigger mechanism (excellent feature). It is possible however, by clamping it with a large clip/peg, or some other method. You can also rig up a car jack or simple lever system to raise and lower the router to the desired depth, locking it off in the normal way on the router itself. The plunge action wasn't that smooth initially, as other reviews have mentioned, but a quick squirt of WD40 rendered it as smooth as butter. Apparently routers in all price ranges can be a bit sticky initially. So, to sum up, the Bosch POF 1200 AE in my experience, is an incredibly versatile and capable router, possessing a high degree of comfort and usability for such a reasonable price. It's maybe not a 'pro' tool, but it achieves professional results and gets a hearty 5 stars from me.

I should start this off by saying this was my first router, so I dont have anything to compare it to.I did spend quite some time looking at reviews first both on amazon and on google, and within the price range I wanted to go with this came out as the best option for a happy home hobby hero.I also bought the bosch 15 bit router set to go with it so I could make different shapes. Probably other sets would work as well, but I wanted to make sure the weak link was likely to be me, so any necessary problem solving would have a simple starting point!Initially I didnt bother with instructions ( I am man)just put it on a piece of wood and pressed go.After I threw that piece of wood away I had a look at the instructions and how to set it all up and it was really simple and straightforward. It comes with a guide, as in the picture, which is nice and stable and allows you to quite easily line the bit up. The plunger is very easy to use, just a convenient button click while youre holding the handles. There is a sort of depth block, so once you set it up you dont have to worry about going too deep, not deep enough or just being inconsistent.(Again, had no experience with routers so all this was important)The instructions are really very clear, both for these sort of usage set up bits, and for changing the router bits safely. Obviously if you're genuinely manly, you won't want anyone to see you reading them, but they're there in case you need to let someone else use the router at some stage ...So far Ive used this to make skirting board from some planks I had lying around, to put some professional looking finishes to cabinet/box things I was making, to make some nice grooves in some supports for a kitchen unit, and ( freehand) to put some grooves in a shelf which I then filled with luminous(luminescent?) resin to make a really cool glow in the dark type shelf.I'm a pretty bog standard DIYer but this does let you really add a bit of class to your stuff and is easy, fun and straightforward to use

I've owned this tool for 3 or 4 months now, and I've been very pleased with it.It's only a moderately-powered "DIY" machine, and isn't really the right choice for doing kitchen worktop and similar heavy jobs; for that reason, it only comes with 6mm / 1/4" / 8mm collets, which won't take cutters large enough to do worktop. Be aware of this before you buy it! If you need to do worktop-type jobs, get something like a DeWalt DWW625EK - although I've never owned one of these, I've seen them well-reviewed elsewhere - which costs around 3 times as much as the POF 1400 ACE.In addition, note that guide bushes are always manufacturer-specific sizes: to get the for a Trend jig,you usually have to use a Trend sub-base with its own guide bush, rather than use the Bosch guide bush that comes with the machine. This is the case for most routers. The real strength of any router is that by making your own jigs, you can use it for many tasks, and this is a great tool for that. The two minor issues I've had with it are:* The tool light only works intermittently, so I have to use it in well-lit areas - but then if you're using a dangerous tool like this, you should always be using it in a well-lit area, anyway;* The spring on the plunge mechanism is very strong, making it difficult to adjust when the tool is operating - I have to set the depth-stop carefully beforehand, and depress the plunge mechanism slowly. I could probably take out the spring, but I haven't got round to it yet. However, it's weighed down with features for a router at this price (depth stop, fine depth adjust, quick-release guide bush, parallel fence). Plus, I've found Bosch tools to be very reliable, having owned loads of them.A fine tool to introduce new router-users like me to the process: maybe in a year or two, I'll upgrade when funds allow, but this does what I need at the moment, and was a very good price.

Have just finished a project that involved 'Routing' for the first time (built some wardrobes and wanted channels to recess shelves in plywood). I would say this: this machine appears well juxtaposed between cheap amateur rubbish and expensive heavyweight proffessional equipment. It is medium weight. Well built. Smooth to operate. And gives one the sense of being a professional at work. However, it is a compromise because it is probably not powerful enough for the biggest and heaviest of jobs: like working on kitchen worktops. It also takes cutters on a smaller shank than the big routers so doing large profiles or moldings (over 1/2" or 3/4") would probably be unwise. But for the myriad of smaller to medium sized tasks this router should do all you ask and more. I was impressed. It only comes with an 8mm cutting bit (Bosch or Toolzone do sets other users review positively), but does 'plunge' and has constant speed, a light source focussed on the cutter and a firm feel in the hands. The biggest issue with routers is fixing guide rails to get straight cuts and the 'hand - eye' co-ordination required to ensure you keep them firmly pressed against the guide rail so the cut doesn't wander or extend past where you want to stop. If for a project that doesn't involve heavy work then I recommend this unit strongly. I spent ages researching and for the money this mid-range unit is a winner! 10*/10. Hope this helps?

I bought this to replace a basic old Black & Decker router that really wasn't up to the job. The POF 1400 is clearly built to a much better standard, and good value at the Amazon price, so I'm not complaining about value for money. I'm also not going to dwell on the positive points, but make no mistake - I reckon this is a good router and I am overall pleased with my purchase. I have been using it for a while on oak, and the results are good. However, I have noticed a few drawbacks which make me give it only 4 stars instead of 5:(a) The "quick release" mechanism doesn't seem to work that well. Although it is easy enough to unscrew the collets, the bits seem to have a tendency to jam in the shaft,as some other reviewers have also noticed, and I have already managed to damage one TCT bit while trying to remove it.(b) The one feature that the Bosch doesn't have, and my old B&D router did, was a HORIZONTAL micro-fine adjustment for the parallel guide. This is a pity, as I reckon it would only have needed quite a minor addition to the guide, and it would have been very useful at times.(c) I have discovered that 8mm router bits are harder to find compared with 1/4" or 1/2" ones, and the ones that you can find are significantly more expensive. I can make do with 1/4" bits, but I would prefer to use 8mm ones if they were more readily available.

I bought this router for several reasons, the first being that I finally managed to kill my existing Bosch router after 20yrs of abuse. Every Bosch tool I've ever owned has been a quality tool that lasts, they might be more expensive than the cheaper tools on the market, but you get what you pay for.Another deciding factor was the 22 previous 5 star reviews, and my review is no different. If like me it's been 20yrs since you last bought a router, things have improved in that time and mostly for the better. The one thing I don't like is the fact you have to press and hold a button to change bits, this can be hard on the fingers and I much prefer the old method of placing a pin through a hole in the shaft to keep it in place, however I believe this is now the standard way of changing bits on all routers. The depth lock is now a lever rather than built into one of the handles and is by default always locked and has to be pressed to release which is big improvement on the old router. This model comes with a built in led that illuminates the work area and also a very handy case in which to keep it when not in use. The router is well built and solid and has a real quality feel to it. This model is definitely worth the £80 I paid for it.And once again Amazon's customer service and delivery were what one has come to expect, excellent.

I got this for a specific job and to be honest it was a toss up between this or a circular saw but I'm glad I chose this one. It's nice and easy to use and the pre set depth stops work great just turn it to the next depth a flick of a finger to loosen the clamp then push down and your at the next level, it feels well balanced and slides up and down the guides without that sticky feeling I've felt on some cheaper routers. It has a light that comes on while in use which is handy and a removable guard that stops you getting covered in wood or dust and a extractor. outlet to connect to a Hoover. It's nice and easy to change the tools with the spindle lock but to be honest I used the same cutter that was supplied to do all of my job.I was making a fire surround out of 2" X 18" solid oak planks and it cut through it like a hot knife in butter I had tried cutting the wood before with different electric saws and it was hard going but this router made life easy. The base is round with one flat side and I used this against a clamped spirit level to get my straight line. I've since tried using different tools and feel that it has plenty of power to do most jobs. Would recommend this item.

The Bosch POF1400 ACE router is the top of their DIY / non-professional router range. It delivers everything you'd expect from a Bosch product!Along with the router in its nice carry case are several accessories that the handbook says are extra to the router!! There are the guides / fence, two extra collets (worth £30+ each) a cutting bit, a template guide and other bits and bobs. Excellent.Originally Amazon were out of stock but kept me as informed as they could about stock levels. And, in the end, they delivered well before their estimate. Can't fault that.My purchase from Amazon shows it pays think a purchase through then to shop around for the product. This router cost me under £60 **incl delivery**: on the high street it was around £110! I was surprised Amazon were selling this router much more cheaply than was available at the time on a well known internet auction site! And at £60 it was only double the price of the DIY stores' own brands for a top of the range Bosch. As a side issue, I've also discovered Amazon's tooling prices are good and that I'd probably have saved money on other power tool purchases. Thanks Amazon and Bosch.

This is a great router. I'd never used one before and it took a little getting used to - but after watching a few youtube videos and other demonstrations with routers from the Trend website - I was soon up and running. It does all the cut work that I want to do and trims beautifully. Its nice and soft to use and I haven't come across any problems so far. As I am new to the world of routers I still have a lot to learn that I am very excited about. Its very stable and has different speed settings for different types of wood. So far I have only used two bits in the shank - a straight cutter and a trimmer. Both worked fine and created beautiful work that really made my work stand out.If you're into routers as a beginner - for the price - this is a great one to start with. You can always buy a cheapish set of bits to practice with before spending more on higher quality bits. Great machine. I would highly recommend this for beginners. Once you know more about what you are doing - a router with a half inch shank will give you more stability - depending on the work you are doing. Good luck to new users.

I own a few routers (Hitachi, Makita and Bosch) but I find myself reaching for this little fella first if I can. Why? Because it's light, friendly feeling, well made and has enough guts for rabbets, housings and profiles. Ideal for 1/4" bits, it's very ergonomic in the hands (much more so than any other router I own) and would be an ideal first router for beginners. I've abused mine and it still keeps going. Not suitable for router tables because it has a dead man's switch - and so can't be left turn on unless the switch is depressed, which I like for safety when I am hand routing - least you know if you drop it (and that can happen when freehand routing)its not going to skoot around your workshop hunting for toes.Top Tip: you can connect this to a Festool Track Saw Track and use it as a routing guide by purchasing the Makita router guide (made for Makita tracks) which fits both this router and the Festool track perfectly.I would give it 5 stars but the plunge is a bit too stiff and the depth setting gauge (if you rely on it) is a bit inaccurate - but I prefer to use a ruler anyway.

I needed to make stair tread noses. After internet research, I took the plunge and bought the Bosch plunge router and the Bosch router bit set from Amazon.Bull nose profile was made with the rounding over bit, then same on other side.Using the router was satisfying, and the results look good. The router’s dust extraction adapter must be removed to slide the straight edge of the base against a guide fence. Loads of saw dust all over the place. For my work so far the light has not been necessary. Neither has the fine adjustment. I imagine they will come in handy as my confidence grows and I tackle more challenging projects. The router comes with 1 x straight bit (8 mm diameter). I used the 1/4 inch bits. The shanks are smaller allowing slower speed and better control. The sturdy carrier case keeps the attachments tidy and easy to find.I am happy with the router an would recommend to anyone who wants a trustworthy tool. The plastic case keeps the various bits tidy and easy to find.

This router is excellent, but I've have a few issues. This was my first time purchasing a router.1. This router does not take 1/2" bits. As I discovered after buying, any straight bits over 25mm go up to a 1/2" straight away. So you're not going to be able to use this for more serious jobs, unless you're willing to pay through the nose for extortionate high-tech 1/4" bits.2. The instructions that come with the router are a bit rubbish, so there's a lot of things you basically have to guess, or watch youTube videos on, to figure out.3. It's pretty hard to see the bit when the router is in use. The dust extractor adaptor only makes it worse.4. The provided guide is very fiddly and awkward to adjust,as is the depth meter.5. Changing the bits is very awkward due to the placement of the spindle lock.On the plus side, the router itself has plenty of power and has had no issue cutting through the wood I've thrown at it. It's comfortable to hold and use and seems to be pretty well built.

Never used a router before but realised that it was the only tool that would do the job I wanted to do. The cost of an upmarket machine nearly put me off! The budget was under £100 and perusing the 'net I found this model for under around £70. I have always found Bosch tools to be very dependable (I have a Bosch electric hand saw which has rendered excellent service over many years) so I took the plunge (sorry about that). The router did everything I expected of it. It is quite possible to work to probably half a mil or so (I only needed to work to a millimetre which it accomplished with no trouble). For the price it is obviously not a professional machine but for occasional use it is excellent and I have no trouble in recommending it.If there is any criticism at all I found it rather difficult to press the unlock button and the trigger at the same time, probably due to arthritic thumbs! I guess all plunge routers are similar in this respect so I wouldn't fault it on that score.

I bought this router as I had all my tools stolen, including both my routers. This was bought s a happy medium, as I cannot afford to replace everything at once. Therefore it had to be powerful enough to keep on going on large jobs and gentle enough for some of the delicate intricate work I do occasionally. It surpassed expectations, it is easy to control when free handing and powerful enough to cut deep detail into hard woods, soft woods and mdf. Only a couple of minor critisisms, the first of which is probably unfair, is my kitchen fitter cutters are too big for it, which meant more expense. In hindsight, I should have bought its big sister, as it comes with more toys, but this one was a great deal.It will be an important part of my tool kit for many years to come. The second critisism is the plastic guard is a little flimsy and I fear in time it is going to break off. It hasn't yet though, so only time will tell.

This is an excellent mid-range router. The inclusion of merely 1 bit seems a little "tight" but Bosch aren't alone in that. The soft start makes life a great deal easier - I've had those that spring immediately into full force in the past and it makes any detailed little actions tricky. The light is a welcome addition but the chip guard and extraction coupling seem a little flimsy - time will tell. It's a sturdy machine and the strength of the plunge springs might need a little getting used to for some but the fine adjustment is good and any issues of this nature are resolved by learning the techniques of route ring.I would strongly advise watching some of the Youtube generic routering instructional videos BEFORE starting for the first time.a substantial case and the addition of three collets together with a fence and circle tool make this a great buy for the money.
