I waited a long time to buy this router because my previous table-mounted router, a Bosch, performed well enough. (BTW, I use a Triton router table set on a Triton router table stand.) Recently, making a set of replacement doors for some kitchen cabinets, using profile scribing cutters, I decided it was time to upgrade my router; struggling with under-table bit changes and heaving upwards, pushing against the plunge spring (which I swear had got much stiffer over the years) to get correct height for the profile scribing bits became too much of a struggle for me and I placed an order for this powerhouse of a router.I had already read the reviews; I wanted it for use with a router table and it was designed for quick and easy mounting on the router plate of the Triton table. But the key factor influencing my decision to buy was the facility easily to raise the router and change bits from above the table. What a brilliant design feature this is; it really does make table-based routing so much easier. When you want to change a cutter, by engaging a catch you can raise the collet effortlessly above the height of the table. What's more, doing so automatically actuates the spindle lock, so all you have to do is undo the collet nut with a spanner. Easy. Considering this feature particularly I think the Triton is something of a bargain, because to get this facility with a conventional plunge router you may have to invest in an expensive router-lift device which could cost as much or more than your router.Attachment to a Triton router plate is simplicity itself: you loosen two screws, lower the router into place, a twist to lock it there, then re-tighten the screws. Before mounting the TRA001 on a router table, you first remove the plunge spring. This is easy, but potentially hazardous, so follow the instructions in the manual carefully. Then, pressing in a collar on the right hand handle(seen in photo in sidebar) engages a rack and pinion gear and turning the handle raises or lowers the collet. There is also the facility to raise or lower the collet by means of a separate winding handle (supplied) which is inserted from above the table through a hole drilled in the router plate - something you have to get done yourself. A disc on the winder is calibrated: turning the handle through 360 degrees raises or lowers the cutter 2mm. So the winding handle is very useful for making fine height adjustments to the cutter. I have not drilled the router plate yet, but will do so in due course because it enables one to make accurate micro adjustments to cutter height from above the table. It is not essential to use the winding handle, however, as the fine height (micro) adjuster) can be operated simply by turning a knob on the router body, underneath the table. The $10000 dollar question is should you buy one? If you want a router for use with a router table, I would recommend this model without hesitation. But if you want to buy one router for both table and hand-held use, be aware that the TRA001 is a big beast and it's heavy too. In this scenario a medium powered router, such as the TRA001's smaller, 1400 watt 'brother' could be the ideal all-round choice. It shares most if not all of the TRA001's features and would be my preferred choice for hand-held routing. In summary, the TRA001 is an ace for table-routing; it's simple to install (particularly on a Triton table); it has brilliant ergonomics in use on a router table; it's got stacks of power, and then some. I should have bought one years ago.

This router is really for a router table, not for hand-held use. Looking at both applications:As a hand-held router it is big, and I found a bit awkward to hold. It is heavy and powerful. I didn't find the wheel to wind the height up and down very intuitive, but as I am using mine in a router table I didn't try it very much. The main problem as a hand-held is that the plastic dust shroud throws up a cloud of dust which obscures whatever you are cutting. You could only really use this when routing "dead reckoning" with a template. If you have to see a pencil line then forget it! The circle cutting jig looks interesting, and I may use this. The fence is cheap and cheerful - no split fence or fine adjuster. So, if you spend your time taking heavy cuts in clamped horizontal timber using a template - maybe cutting housing joints in stair strings, then great. Anything delicate or out of horizontal, maybe look elsewhere. But, in a router table, all those negatives turn to positives. Heavy, powerful, the ability to raise and lower from above the table, the ability to change bits with one spanner from above the table are all excellent attributes. If you have vacuum extraction under the table you don't need the dust shroud. The only negatives from my experience are:- The need to have the main switch off and the plastic guard located before you can raise the router sufficiently to lock the spindle. As most people will have this wired through an NVR switch anyway its annoying to have to grope around under the table when the power is already completely disconnected. The interlock should be on the presence of voltage at the switch, not the position of the plastic guard.- Why supply a 12mm collet and not a 1\4 inch collet? When putting this in a router table I suggest positioning it edge-on, rather than the normal orientation. This has three advantages. The winding handle moves nearer the operator, and avoids any fouling of the fence or attachments; the height adjustment locking lever is immediately accessible, and you can actually see the speed adjustment wheel. Are all of the people complaining of stuck bits aware that there are two stages to loosening the collet? After the initial loosening unscrew the nut a few turns by hand until it tightens again, then use the spanner to finally loosen the collet and eject this bit. The initial loosening relieves the pressure on the collet, but it is still stuck in the spindle. As you continue to loosen the nut it engages with a groove in the collet and pulls it out of the spindle.

After agonizing over buying yet another router, I can say the TRB001 was an excellent choice. I bought the Triton Router table and was using a 2100W Erbauer router which was fitted very easily and worked faultlessly. Then, as I learned my way around the table, I realised the ability to quickly change the bits from the top and to adjust the height, were a must. To perform these basic tasks with the Erbauer (which is not designed for table mounting)was a painstaking, time comsuming task. Not anymore with the TRB001. The Rack and Pinion system and the height winder are very very impresive.Reading from the previous review (Mr P. Hodgson) I knew I had to drill on the router table insert, which I agree,it should really be pre-drilled, or at the very least, clear instructions given to the user. Nevertheless, once the router is securely mounted on the table, all one has to do is mark the hole position(a round indentation on the router's base plate directly under the micro-winder engaging shaft)and drill all the way through. This doesn't have to be ultra-precision work. The winder is around 11.0 to 11.5mm, so a 13mm bit will leave plenty of leeway. The plunging mechanism is also very smooth and I reckon 2000W is the least power one should consider for table mounting. I'm not a woodworker so the use is mainly intended for general building/cabinet making/kitchen building and I think the TRB001 is already serving me very well.As always, excellent service from Amazon. Overall, I'm really happy with the purchase.

The item is excellent. It arrived on time, and was well packed. At the same time as buying the router I bought the router table to go with it, and there I found a problem. There was no way to adust the height of the router bits from the top of the table, despite the fact that it is advertised as such, and despite supplying a long adjusting tool to do it with. Fortunately I found an article in the Woodworker magazine where they had encountered the same problem, and told you how to drill the surface of the table to get to the router. During the course of this problem I repeatedly tried to get in touch with Triton Routers, and couldn't. The email address given on their website did not work, and the UK telephone number given was a none number. In this respect Amazon was less than helpful, giving me the same telephone number again, and a different one that got me through to a company who supplied spare parts but was otherwise totally unconnected with Triton. I found out eventually that the table I had been supplied with had gone out of production, and was no longer being supplied by the Company. The Company, which is based in Australia, has been uncontactable throughout this, and remains so. So if you want the product it is good, but if you should ever want to contact the company you haven't a cat in hells chance!

I bought this router to mount in router table because it has a built-in height adjustment capability when in this mode. Most other routers (if not all) need to have a separate router lift at extra cost (maybe as much as the router!). I replaced the three 1/4" UNC screws that hold the sole plate on with longer ones (1" but then shortened to fit) to fit through the 10mm base plate in my router table. The 3 1/4 hp motor is a beast - I tried it out by routing a rebate with a 13mm straight bit set at a depth of 10mm and it whizzed through it without any discernable drop in revs! I would not have tried this with my old router without making a first pass at half the depth. The spindle locks automatically when raised to its maximum height up through the table and the locking nut is fully accessible to allow easy replacement of bits. Be aware that the spindle cannot be raised enough to be locked if the power switch is in the 'on' position, which is a minor annoyance if using it mounted upside down in a router table with a separate NVR switch, as you will still have to reach under to operate the router's power switch whenever you need to change the router bit.

Really great piece of kit. Solidly built and packed with very useful features.I have mine mounted in a Trend CRT MK3 router table and it's a great combo, now that I've managed to drill the insert to fit. A drilling template would have been super useful.I haven't drilled through the top to use the through table height adjustment yet, simply because the 'micro adjuster' works so well from under the table. After taking the plunge spring out (a minute's job), the rack and pinion adjustment gets you into the ball-park and the micro adjuster gets you spot on. Very quick and easy and a one handed task. The above table cutter removal feature is also super useful. When you have the spindle fully extended through the base (protruding up through the table when mounted upside down in the table, the spindle automatically locks to allow one handed changes. The switch cover auto lock takes a bit of getting used to as it's not a feature you'll commonly find, however it's great when you figure it out and a really good safety feature (and part of the above table bit changing process).

This is a monster in terms of power (with loads of intelligent design) and a very heavy beast to boot. I found the soft start not so soft. It is too heavy and awkward to use for anything but as part of a table set up or (if fully hand held) the operator can remain directly over it with both arms sharing the weight equally. So for a kitchen project cutting mitres on fully stable and supporting surfaces it performs flawlessly. For fiddly work like deepening sash window frames for double glazing you would not want to attempt without a jig to ensure the base plate stays firmly perpendicular to the cut. I found using a McCullough (1000 Watts less powerful and a sixth of the price)better suited to the latter exercise and without a jig.So this is about horses for courses or you are simply buying a trophy tool.A caveat though. I had expected to use this mainly in a Charnwood router table. Very hard to fit and align without modding the table. I have since read that matching routers to tables is a lottery so consider the Triton table and insert.

CARE AND CAUTION to be observed when removing the compressed spring for mounting in router table. I wasn't on my a-game that day and i didn't read the instructions that thoroughly when removing the spring. Unfortunately I forgot to place my hand over the plunge cap and as a result, I was hit in the head at close range when the spring shot out. Believe me this comes out like a champagne cork and with the force of a sledge hammer! - The result -one massive bump on the head, a black eye and concussion with a trip to A & E thrown in !. All this said...one week later and as a sad woodwork enthusiast...i can't wait to try out the router....it was a birthday present to myself to replace my old Bosch table mounted router....i'm sure performance wise, the Triton will not disappoint , but I felt i needed to post this before trying it out just in case any other person was looking at removing the spring. - CARE AND CAUTION to be observed. Happy routing !

Mainly used with a Trend table, but also works really well the 'right way up'. Packed with genuinely useful features for table use, including above-the-table tool changing and height adjustment. I also rate the way that spring removal is a ten second job, although mind your eyes! There seem to be a couple of different versions that look very similar but with different clutch release mechanisms on the right-hand handle. Mine is the 'press-button' version which is easy to use in my experience. The dust extraction port works well enough with my cobbled together hose solution, perhaps Triton's own system might be a bit neater but I don't think it's essential.Certainly powerful enough to cope with everything I have thrown at it so far.Against some of the competition (e.g. Trend) represents excellent value for money.

I cannot compare this to any other routers, as this is my first, but after building myself a router table and mounting this onto it, it has made all manner of woodworking tasks a breeze, producing skirting, windowboard, cutting notches or grooves along lengths of timber to make gates etc. Anyone thinking about getting a router for the first time should seriously consider this router. A couple of 4x2s, some left over ply and conti board were ample to make a router table and being able to change the bit from the top seems like the logical option. I now can't recall how I coped without it.

The item arrived before time well packed and packaged. I will not dwell on it apart of it being a Triton and it is extremely strong one of the main features is the ability to connect it to a router table and adjust height from the top with the accompanied wrench. This to me was one of the main reasons I went with Triton brand, but why this model, since I was spending the money I got this powerful tool so no regrets in the future. Moreover, this particular model comes highly recommended by everyone who used it.

This is a great tool I use it very often to cut rebates and slots in wood. Ideally suited to use with the Triton Router Table. It fits in very easily to the table via two slots. Be sure to remove the plunger spring (very easy to do) before placing on the table. It comes wit a 1/2 inch bit and two collets !/2 inch and 25mm. A lot of thought was put into the design of this router and it is very easy to use. Remember, with any power tool wear eye protection.

A fantastic router. one of the best part is the table winder, and you can easily mark the hole for it on your router plate. Amazon as usual was Amazing and the price is about right. Don't think too much. If you are looking for a heavy router, just go for it and buy it right here. Best features, can take both metric and imperial collets and bits. So you have a wide range. Wish they had included the 1/4" and 8 mm collets too.Worth every penny.

an absolute powerhouse and so easy to use, the soft start mechanism elimates the jerk action you get with other powerful routers. the attachments and differing plunge mechanisms make this a dream to use, i am an ex-furniture builder years ago but every spare moment i have now i am knocking something up with this little treasure. works fantastic with the triton router table

Very powerful motor mated to the adjustable auto speed means it will chew through pretty much anything without fuss.I've mounted it on a temporary homemade router table and had to order some longer screws to install it.Rack and pinion means that I can adjust the height of the bit without fuss and the awesome ability to change the bit above the table is priceless.
