** use the right biscuits! The first thing I discovered was it cuts slots that are too narrow for the Trend biscuits that I had left over from a previous project. I then bought a bag of Silverline biscuits, that actually fit perfectly - and are indeed consistently about 0.12mm narrower according to my micrometer. [Aside: you want a biscuit that slides in with finger pressure, not that has to be forced. Particularly if you're working with MDF, a biscuit that needs to be forced is likely to distort your board as the drying glue expands it].** cutting with the base and the fenceThere are two basic methods for cutting biscuits: using the machine's base by putting the machine on the same level benchtop as the workpiece,or using the fence by sliding the fence on top of the workpiece. For most cheap jointers, the former works better. However, the Silverline worked perfectly with the fence straight out of the box. See the sample biscuit in the attached photo: it's perfectly aligned to the top of the board. And, the fence height gauge is quick and easy to adjust.Working off the base initially gave me a slightly sloping cut. I had to make a small adjustment (see comments on set up below) to the jointer and this then worked fine.** setupIt's annoying to have to adjust a mis-assembled tool and I see that others have had the same experience, although with a different part of the tool. See my other photo. The body is two pieces of steel screwed together and they were misaligned, a bit like the red line I've drawn. I had to remove the fence, remove the screws shown by the arrow, realign the body, and reassemble, before the plastic base sat square.I also found it more complicated than it should be to setup for different size biscuits. The numbers on the depth gauge are in millimetres and there are lots, but in practice, you just want three that are in 2mm steps. Then you can set the deepest of the three for size 20, and then the other two should be correct for sizes 10 and 00. None of this was set up in advance or explained in the manual. So, I adjusted "4" for the size 20, and "2" and "0" now work for size 10 and 00. Aside: set up correctly is where the depth is such that slightly more than half the biscuit goes into the slot (say 1mm past half). All in all, it works fine once you have it set up, which at this price, is pretty good. Recommended for a reasonable amount of straightfoward biscuiting. I've used it happily now for eight bookcases and cupboards, and to joint a few kitchen work surfaces, and it's all gone fine.

Having to make major modifications to a new corner sink cabinet to fit around the soil stack and accommodate my water softener I had to decide whether to use dowels, screws or biscuits to join the MFC panels and rails. I've read lots of good things about biscuit jointing as it gives a larger surface area for the glue to hold and also allows for some adjustment of panel fit, unlike dowels which have to be precisely lined up. I didn't want to make a major investment in a tool that wouldn't be used very often, so I tried a router bit (which I found awkward and couldn't be used for face-joining). So then I went for this jointer. As a basic tool, it requires more setup effort - the adjustments are all there, but they're more of a faf to get right, especially as the marked scales for depth and angle aren't accurate, so you have to measure yourself and do test cuts to verify. In a professional context this would be unacceptable, but it's a fair compromise for occasional DIY use to get a tool this cheap. The blade seems to burn a fair bit, so probably isn't the sharpest either. Overall I'm pleased with the results, and the tool has met my expectations.

Blown away by this biscuit jointer. I read the reviews and was a little unsure about quality level cuts being made with this budget tool, but with a few practice cuts to get used to it I was ready to go and it was a perfect every cut! I cut from the base of the machine and from the fence and both were equally as good - just take your time. I'd definitely recommend cutting from the base when you can as it's just much easier. The depth gunge is a bit odd, but I have set it up so the settings 2, 4 and 7 are for biscuits sized 0, 10 and 20 respectively which is all I need. Given I contemplated spending nearly £200 to pick this one for a quarter of the price and have all the same features is ideal.Wish I'd bought one earlier!

Bought this to join some wooden boards together to make wider planks.Took a couple of trials to get the technique correct, as the depth of cut needs to be slightly deeper than you would expect, to allow the biscuit to seat properly. In fact it is worth sliding the cutter a few mm around the exact biscuit position to make this even easier.Once the method is worked out properly, I am able to bang the narrow strips together with ease - but really need some better Sash clamps as a lot of pressure needs to be applied across the board to get a good tight joint.Much easier to use than expected - as long as you don't rely on the guages, which don't really help all that much - much better to check by eye with motor stopped.

Was initally sceptical that a dedicated biscuit cutter costing about the same as a biscuit cutting attachment for my router could be any good but after using it a few times I'm really impressed. Switch is a bit fiddly, scales on the gate are a bit vague (easier to set it up by just pressing against the wood and seeing where the blade comes) and it's quite noisy. However, once set up it cuts biscuit joints quickly and accurately enough for me. If you are just doing 90 or 180 degree joints, such as for joining planks to make wider boards, this is all you need. Good plastic case too - more robust than one normally gets from the likes of Draper etc. All in all, highly recommended for the enthusiastic amateur DIY-er.

I know the old adage of you get what you pay for, but sometimes you pay less for a good product.I also know that many other brands of this type of tool will be shinier and heavier and well, better. But.......For a quarter, if not more, than many of these brands (most of which are made in the same place/factories etc) this is well, damn good.It may not be the best in specific, rare instances but generally it will do what you need.I don't know how long it will last and I may regret my words but, for now.......I am well pleased.

This is a comfortable tool to use, little or no vibration, easy to position and cut accurate biscuit joints. There are guides for depth of plunge cuts and posiotioning on the face of the timber for jointing, although the guides look approximate rather than absolutley accurate, but it id certainly workable. it cuts at 90 degrees to the edge and has an angle fence for other angles. It comes with two spare bushes. All-in-all, good value for money.

A good tool that I have used on several jobs while fitting kitchens to splice kick boards and doors to corner trim. You get what you pay for so probably not good enough for a professional as the guides etc are pretty much useless, however, it is easy enough to line up by eye. If you have a handful of jobs to do that need a biscuit jointer buying this with a pack of biscuits would be better than hiring. A useful tool to have in your collection.

I had three solid oak coffee and lamp tables to build. All thanks to my wife choosing a range of furnature that didn't have tables of the correct size to fit our alcoves. I had a vision of all the work required, forming the joints. As it turned out, after purchasing the Biscuit jointer, it was a piece of cake. The jointer is easy to use and simple to operate and I could recommend it to anyone as a reasonably priced quality product.

Nice tool for the price. Does the job as advertised. Its going to take a bit of time to get used to, as with any new tool. Not sure if I will use this or dowels, but it's nice to have another option.I did use it to stick 2 144mm wide pieces of pine together. The joint was really tight and almost seamless. Not sure if that's the biscuits or the glue and clamping, but it seems like a pretty sturdy joint.

This tool was purchased for a project that will take place later in the year. I must say that Amazon do tend to deliver quickly, and in very good order. Once it arrived it was checked out for its operational functions, and it passed all of them. Everything worked just as the manufacturer said, and when it is needed I have full confidence in its ability to do the job admirably.

This jointer has made my work so much easier, rather than using dowel jigs.It offers value for money and after using it for the first time it appears to be a good quality piece of kit.Instructions are a little vague and it takes you a little while to work out how the guide and fence work, but once mastered you will be pleased with this purchase.

i read about that item and took a while took a while to decide whether to buy one or not. i eventually decided to go ahead an order one. i am very happy with it. it is so easy to use. it makes joining two piece of wood together a mere doddle. much better than drilling holes and using dowel.

Another Silverline product that gives good value to the economically stretched woodworker. You can pay for more expensive models but this model cuts the same profile for biscuit joints as they do and is simple to use. Certainly takes the biscuit - ouch - over dowels and tenons.
