I'm a big fan of the LXT system and Makita tools in general and this is a brilliant tool and (as far as I know) is the only 'LXT' sander out there...I bought mine mainly for decorating and sanding filler although I've used it for woodwork too - works very well with the dustless Abranet discs, Mirka hose attached to a Henry vac - this gives a nearly dustless setup for very little cost.Another tip is using the smaller 1.5 / 2.0 Ah LXT batteries make this night and light for use at height etc. It obviously does go through the batteries though so I keep swapping and charging them.Only complaint I have is that the discs stopped sticking to the backing plate after a couple of years and started to fly off as soon as it was started (especially as it always starts at full speed!)- this may well have been to do with me using the Abranet discs as above but I was still disappointed it had not lasted longer and although this was well used, we are talking DIY use only and not daily!Makita replaced the plate FOC as it was still under warrranty which was good but the genuine part is nearly £20 if it needs doing again - I don't think the new one is any better than the original, it doesn't seem all that sticky compared to other sanders I've used but it's like new again at least!Overall, It's great for its size but I'm sure it can be improved and hopefully made more powerful. I think it was the first revision of the LXT sander so it will be interesting to see what they change if they do replace and bring out a newer improved model!

I should start by saying that I am more of a hobbyist than a professional, working in my own home workshop for home DIY and other projects. That being said, I do appreciate a quality built tool and have been a fan of Makita products for many years.I bought this sander as a long-needed upgrade to several small "mouse" palm detail sanders. I found that they did a job but didn't quite tick as many boxes as I would have liked. Already owning several other 18v Makita tools, it made sense to go for this battery powered version as my next purchase. It is light enough (and solid enough) at the same time and well constructed, the grits you can buy for it velcro on and off easily enough and the dust extraction works well.My only gripe is the speed. The top speed is just about enough, the other two speeds I deem almost useless. If only Makita could've "tuned it up" a little this would've probably been closer to a 5* review...

Brilliant machine. It was replacing my old corded sander from Black&Decker. It is fairly lightweight, even with the biggest battery and lasts a fair amount of time with the full charge. I didn't measure exactly, but with my 5 Ah battery it lasts around 45min of continuous sanding on highest setting. The velcro sanding feet is holding sanding pads in place nicely, and if you secure it in place it should stay there. I already have done some larger furnitures with this machine and it proven to be very reliable. I also like the dust collection feature - it collects around 80% of dust, so in some cases the mask is still needed, but for shorter and lighter work, especially with plain wood you can get away with just the collection bag.A TIP: You can re-use the sandings from the collection bag and mix them with some wood glue to the consistence of thick paste. Use it as filler in the colour of the material sanded.

A great little 18v palm sander. It gives a lovely smooth, even movement in use.Operation is the usual Makita way of pressing the unlock button, then pressing the on button. The on button has 3 separate speeds chosen by each successive press.Vibration is considerable, but no more than you would expect from a palm sander.I have smallish hands, but still find it comfortable to hold.Replacement base pads are available, if or when you need one.I tend to use it with a 4ah battery, which usually lasts for a whole job. A good 2 hours run time.Dust collection works well with the supplied bag attachment.A shame that there isn’t a brushless model, as the extra battery life and torque would be useful. But in the meantime, until Makita release one, this is well worth owning and performs well.Overall, a great little palm sander from Makita.Recommended.I hope you found this review helpful.

I have several 18V Makita products - SDS Drill, Planer, JigSaw and now the Sander. The drill and JigSaw I've both owned for 10 years. This sander is another superb Makita product, it works well, its quiet in operation, the battery life is good and it makes short work of any wood sanding operation. I was re-staining my garage door frame and door sill thresholds, this sander removed the old stain back to bare wood in no time at all and made an excellent job of dust collection. You just need to hand sand a bit in tight corners where the circular pads do not reach. The Makita sanding sheet life is excellent too. 100% recommendation. Genuine UK Buyer - SE London. One last thing,in these uncertain times it’s also great to be buying a British made product from a company like Makita that has invested in U.K. production for some 30 years.

Superb tool. This is the first cordless sander I have bought but surprised to find:1) It's easily as powerful as most mains DA sanders of this size2) It's quiet, light and clean. Less noisy than both of my mains sanders, no heavier and the built in dust extraction works really well (very low dust in use - the bag fills up nicely)3) Run time is really good. I used a 4Ah battery pack and did a good 30/40+ mins sanding flat out. Went through three discs and it's still going strong, no sign is battery running out at all. Really pleased about this as was expecting a continual use cordless tool to run down pretty quickly. With two spare batteries and a double charger I thought I'd be okay but I don't think you'd need more than two to keep going. You'd need a break before the battery runs out!Really pleased with this purchase.

Never used an orbtal sander and now on my own, I bought this one because my makita drill is easy for me to handle and very effective. I already have the batteries. Straight out the box and I have already sanded 6 outdoor wooden steps, which were looking bad. The edge of the disc was also great at taking out some bits which were starting to rot. It is super easy to handle and did not run away with me, also lightweight. I used 1 1/2 batteries worth of power and it all took about 60 minutes. For this I used abrinet and 40 grit. Wood hardener is now on the soft bits and I will fill with epoxy shortly.I could not possibly have done this work by hand and I am super pleased with the portable makita

Oh yes! I love to take on a some woodworking projects every once in a while and since in Israel this whole garages thing isn't too popular I actually do almost all of it at home or in the backyard (where I don't really have any power outlets). Anyway sanding is rightfully not allowed inside our house and this saved me from eternally having to manual do everything..I actually had to pick a "firm" once I decided to go cordless so I won't have to buy more batteries and chargers and I'm so glad I went for Makita - I have their jigsaw, circular saw, drill and now this baby and I'm so happy! I can do almost an entire project outside and only bring it home for the lightest final touches - great!

Another fantastic Makita product for my tool kit.Purchased to sand down a new handrail installed for a disabled lady who needs it to steady herself whilst walking, removed all splinters and old varnish, excellent on filler sanding and on rounding down timber edges. Also used to sand down marks made on outbuilding doors, ivy was growing on them and left the usual horrible mess... easily removed. This is a fantastic sander, far far better than the non rotational sanders which are practically useless.Bare in mind, its powerful and very very effective, so purchase plenry of the 125mm sanding pads :)

Can't fault it tbh . I mean the dust extraction isn't the best on it but it does the job . Much easier to sand down doors and floors with this .I've even sanded toupret on external blocks I was repairing before painting and it worked wonders . And saved me time which exuals to more moneys so I'm happy Honestly it does what it's designed to do so nothing bad i can say about it . I didnt have to buy batteries and I have Makita drills etc so I found value for money was good too. But if you're on a budget get something more affordable as buying batteries and a charger with this is quite expensive

A very good product, a little heavy but powerful. If you've got other Makita tools & batteries (18v) then a really good buy. This product was brought together with storage toolbox, very happy with this buy for the price. The sander does what it says on the box. together with dust bag, no filters to buy. Job done. The 19" Storage Toolbox, although made of plastic looks strong and seems to be well made. If looked after and not abused I think it should last for some time. All in all, I think I've got a really good deal for the price.PS: The above was brought for home DIY.

This is my first battery sander. And I won't be going back to a cord.I have loads of Makita 18v gear. And loads of batteries. I wasn't expecting too much from this - but was blown away with how good it is.Those saying only high setting is any good clearly do not know how to use an orbital sander. In fact I'd rarely use high power for anything sensitive. This tool combined with a genuine battery is amazing.Tip - order disks from Amazon as they cost buttons for loads of different grits. Once you find what you like you can get just the few you will use all the time.

Typical Makita tool, very well constructed and perfect for sanding or polishing jobs.Personally I bought this for polishing areas of the car (bah - bird lime!) And for polishing in the house. For sanding I use a mains powered Makita sander that uses a square sheet, so I can use the reels of decorators sanding paper, which works out sooooo much cheaper and can be used for hours with no worries about batteries. After saying that, I love the 3Ah Makita batteries that charge in 15 minutes and power so many tools.Hope this helps.

I bought this to sand down some doors and skirting after moving house. I’m a big fan of Makita and, whilst not the cheapest, probably one of the best sanders you can buy.The 5ah battery lasts for 35-40 mins of continuous use and takes about 45 mins to charge so if you are lucky enough to have 2 batteries, this will last all day.The only downsides so far is it is a little heavy with the 5ah battery and it wears the edges of the sanding pads but I think that is more likely the user! It’s a great buy highly recommended.

A bit underpowered and battery life isn't massive, but a useful tool for sanding-in 2-pack filler. Dust extraction with the bag is so-so, but really no worse than it was with the BO4555 corded 1/4-sheet palm sander this has replaced. The fastest of the 3 speeds provides reasonable cutting speed but this tool will never replace an equivalent sized corded tool - although TBH I doubt that it was the intention to do that. Not the fastest tool, but the convenience of cordless makes all the niggles worthwhile putting up with
