Having an almost exclusive 18v dewalt battery platform, I wanted to cut the cord on my trusty Makita 4.5” grinder and go cordless. The trouble with most of the smaller grinders is visibility when using the tool. The guard just seems to be in the way and on several occasions I’ve taken to removing it altogether to make it easier to work. Not ideal. Ensure you have your safety specs! This flathead variant is a huge step in the right direction. I can easily see what I’m cutting, grinding or sanding. It’s powerful, smooth and well balanced. I have a number of batteries so runtime is not really a concern. With the battery attached it’s quite long compared to a corded unit. However,I’ve not felt the need to reach for the smaller corded version thus far but it could happen in a really tight space. The hex key locking nut system works great compared to the traditional 2 pin spanner. You don’t need to go crazy tightening grinder discs. Never had one fly off yet!If you are invested in the dewalt battery platform and need a grinder, look no further than the flathead. I prefer The slightly larger 5inch discs which afford a slightly deeper cut. You can throw on the 4.5inch discs too so it’s win-win.I’m surprised other manufacturers haven’t followed dewalt’s lead and produced their own version. For that reason, this is ‘THE’ small grinder to own for the professional tradesman. Why would you buy anything else?!

I have never owned an angle grinder. But now I have one, and I can only describe this tool as a great addition to my existing collection of Dewalt tools. It looks good, feels good in the hands, is easy to control and, of course, works beautifully. I had spent an hour or so watching videos on YouTube for tips on how to sharpen lawnmower blades. So, shortly after delivery, I hurried down to my garage and within about 12 minutes I had sharpened all three blades on my ride on lawnmower. Fantastic, particularly as my local repair shop charges £25 a time to do the same. As such, I am going to save a great deal of money. A quick tip when fitting a recessed flap disc to the tool: make sure the correct side of the locking flange is screwed onto the disc. The locking flange should grip the disc and, therefore, the disc should not spin freely/loosely when the power is off.An angle grinder is such a versatile tool. With the right discs, it can grind, sand, polish, sharpen, and possible more, as I have yet to realise its full potential. If you purchase the flat head version (DCG405FN), as I did, you'll be able to work in restricted spaces. But, whatever model you choose, you'll never regret buying a Dewalt. Great buy, great price.

Great little tool, not as powerful as their 54v model but it’s also much lighter and the ability to use it with the smaller batteries is invaluable. The toggle switch is great, means it can be turned on then worked into awkward positions. Lightweight and convenient, makes a great addition to a toolbag for carrying around in the back of the truck.A great feature is the keyless spindle nut, because it never locks up even if a disc binds up. If a disc does bind up the machine is so quick to turn itself off it’s off before you realise it was going to bind.Great tool although it is a bit expensive, but it’s a case if you get what you pay for.Would buy again.Quick adjust guard is very handy but could do with a little refinement on DeWalts part.Handy for making little cuts and is a great tool all round.

My first battery powered angle grinder, and I’m impressed. The unit is well designed, very ergonomic, and of high build quality. It’s powerful for general cutting and grinding, and functions well with multitool accessories. With two batteries and a fast charger the unit offers good endurance. The only thing to note is that with a delta sander attachment the hook and loop face can be ruined too easily if operating the unit at max speed continuously (it’s a heat build up within hook and loop interface due to friction between sanding plate and sanding sheet (NB this is not a unique problem to this manufacturer). I therefore control the speed with the trigger and tend to sand in short bursts to minimise hook and loop degradation.Overall, it’s an excellent product.

I've used angle grinders (for longer than I care to remember) for trade purposes, sculpting and car restoration and I have to say that this tool has been a revelation for me. The flat head is not only an attractive design it's also extremely practical at gaining access to those awkward areas that you can't reach with a conventional grinder. The grinder does look quite long with the battery on, but when in use it feels balanced and effortless. The guard is well designed in that it's easy to move or remove and the alan key for tightening the disc is a welcome improvement from the old style pin spanner.

First test of this was cutting the bottom off a 15kg gas bottle. I used all 3 of my 5Ah batteries and most of a 4Ah.Whilst the grinder is very good, it will eat through batteries FAST. Also, if you hammer it the way I did, you can't charge the batteries straight away as they need about 20 minutes to cool down first. For light duty though it is excellent. Powerful, well designed, easy to hold and having no cable to worry about is great, I can take the tool to the job without messing around with great big extension leads.

Traditional disc securing nut would have been sufficient but the new design works if not a little slower...never the less excellent tool more practical without the lead don’t know about battery life on this product yet ..but can opt for a high capacity battery if needed..I say this cos a grinder tends to be used for longer running periods than drills by experience ..would have thought this would have been a recommendation of manufacturer Would recommend this griinder already cut substantial steel good steady energy

Great brand, great product. I brought this as I already had 6 Dewalt XR tools and three 5amp batteries. It does use battery power quickly. I was able to to fifteen 450mm concrete slabs before battery had depleted using a diamond blade. Also had to wait 15 minutes for Battery to cool down for charging to commence after constant use. If you already have a dewalt charger and 5amp batteries or above then this is the grinder to go for, if not consider battery cost and how often you will need to charge.

I was surprised that the grinder was heavier than I expected, but it is easy to hold when working. My first job was to cut through an old 20mm iron bar sticking out of the wall, which it did comfortably. Then cutting out for a box in a brick wall, the words hot knife and butter come to mind. (using a diamond cutter). Not having to drag a Transformer to the job and mess about with cables is a great bonus.I have a range of DeWalt cordless tools and I am very pleased with my latest addition.

Next level grinder. Nothing worse that not being able to get in or see what you’re doing. This grinder let’s you do both. Yes it’s not cheap. But it makes easy work of any task. I’ve tried Hilti/makita/ blows them out of the water. It’s even better than the 54volt which is just too heavy. All grinders should be like this. Adjustable guard is spot on too. Adjusts with a push of a button. Win win.

Amazing bit of kit, I work out on the road as a plant mechanic so it gets some abuse but holds up well. The slim nose on it makes a massive difference over the standard one, has got me out of no end of tricky positions and jobs. One thing to consider is a few more batteries, this got through 3 4ah batteries in an hour with constant heavy use grinding bucket teeth off which had been welded on.

I have not used it yet, as I want it for outdoor use and as yet it has not been dry! I will just have to wait but I do have a DeWalt corded angle grinder and other DeWalt battery tools that are very good, being able to the same battery for the tools is a big plus. Battery tools are so convenient, saves having to run power leads, especially if there is not a power supply nearby.

About as good as it gets. No need for a full review, this is just a superb machine. You will need a minimum of a 5ah battery (like any grinder). Disc change mechanism very good, easy guard removal. Only thing i would like to see is a holder for the allan key for changing the blade incorporated into the body somehow. Excellent addition to the dewalt family.

Great toolAbsolutely kills my 5ah batteries get about 20mins hard cutting but it was brought for awarkard jobs and it’s great.Only thing when you turn it on, it’s on, personally I’d rather the ‘spring switch ‘ , meaning when you let go of the trigger it stops.Allen key it comes with gets stuck now when changing blade but all in all great tool

First class tool, as you would expect from dewalt. Easy to use, especially when changing cutting or abrasive discs. The only issue i have is that it drains 5ah batteries in no time and i have 3 of them. Depending on what job your doing, 5ah only last about 15 minutes or a bit more. Thinking of purchasing dewalt 6ah flexvolt battery for it.
