This is a great tool and i preferred the design over the more expensive versions because they had the motor sticking out the side which could be a problem on certain jobs. This thing is really powerful although im guessing from reading reviews on the expensive ones this isnt as powerful. The second reason i went for this one is it has speed control reviews suggested on the more expensive ones that they were too powerful. this may well be too powerful also on higher settings. It would be nice however if the lowest speed went a bit lower than it does but its definitely manageable on the lowest setting. It doesnt seem to heat up much when in use i half expected it to get quite warm but it doesnt.i know a dremel is a totally different tool but my genuine dremel will get much hotter than this does!I like that the belts are easy to change and that the shape of it is comfortable to hold and its got quite a bit of adjustment on angle to get it to the angle you need. I like that the belt overlaps the metal parts unlike other belt sanders they tend to have the metal sticking out the side, this allows you to get into 90 degree corners or higher angles quite easily.i had to go 4 star because of the speed it would be nice if the lowest speed was something like 280 rpm and the highest maybe 500. i think the highest is too high for anything although i could be wrong. but having said that this is a very useful toolRead full review...

I have been very pleased with the performance and construction of this somewhat niche tool.I generally stick with De Walt Power Tools, or similar. As I had a specific problem to deal with on a large project, I took a gamble on what I falsely assumed would be a functional, but inferior tool for short-term use …… I must say that I have been very impressed with this particular tool by Silverline. In addition, I had noted when looking for such a tool, that this design is not as wide as many of the competitors by a large margin and I have found that to be a distinct advantage, together with the variable speed. Changing belts is also remarkably easy.Although I have not used it for a long duration, the build quality seems robust and I have a good feeling that it will last a long time.I do wish that it was provided with a case, as it is an awkward tool to lug around. However, that's not really much of a criticism in context of t's excellent attrbutes.I never thought that I would ever be saying this, but my experience requires me to recommend this exceptionally good value for money tool by Silverline which I shall be keeping handy for future use ...Read full review...

I bought this to sand back welds. I am an DIYer and work on my old 4x4r as it needs things doing. I had to weld a bracket for the fuel tank and saved many pounds by doing the job myself. However the welds weren't pretty and I didn't want my local MOT garage where my mate works mocking me as an incompetent fool. But I couldn't get my grinder in the space to reduce the excess weld. Bought this power file and a load of 40 grit belts and was amazed at the results. You can poke this thing in really tight gaps and it works. Yes it gets a bit warm and it pays to make sure the belt is seated properly, unlike I did on one occasion, but it hasn't cut out or slowed down whilst in operation.Having said that don't force it or the belt will slip but it removes stock pretty damn good. I have also found it to be gentler but just as quick in preparing surfaces prior to welding, my angle grinder gouges the surface the power file cleans it, my inexperience I know but I'm not a pro. The belts are available real cheap and in dfferent grits, I got through about Five doing this job but thought that was ok. Great toolRead full review...

Very pleased with this but after a few minutes it seemed to lose a little power. Stopped it and started again it was fine. for a few minutes then it lost a little power again. Turned up the speed etc and it still plays up now and then whatever speed I use. I don't drive it hard and havent used it for more than a total of an hour so a bit worrying really. Its only 260w though, so maybe I am expecting too much for something that is nearly half the price of the competition and not so powerful(I have a B&D one of these which I have thrashed for fifteen years and is starting to play up). So early days yet for this one, watch this space.I bought this after borrowing one from a friend and was impressed with his one.I like the in line configuration so you can get it right up into awkward spaces and the belts are standard size so no problem getting them and very easy to change the belt. I bought this as I had an in-situ welding job in a very tight space and needed to clean off the surface rust. No chance of getting an angle grinder in! This was the least unwieldy tool I could find, but obviously not the most powerful. It did the job satisfactorily, provided the belts were changed when worn, and without pressing too hard, which stalls the tool. Having the adjustable handle position helps. Belts are dead easy to change ...just press on the end of the tool until it retracts and locks with a click, replace the belt then press the button to spring the tool back out again. The variable speed function is also useful. Good choice of grit on the sanding belts, which are also quite cheap to buy.The price of the tool itself is also considerably cheaper than the more powerful ones, which would probably work better if you had the space, which I didn't.Read full review...

Seen the exact same model in the shops ( B&M) for £ 20 more without the extra belts. Used it on wood so far, a little bit noisey and gets hot with prolongued use. Variable speeds makes it easy to get a better finish, and easy to switch between fine and rough belts. Pleased with the product and the extremely quick delivery. ( ordered late at night, and it arrived two days later.) The only downsides are the dust catcher doesn't fit particularly well, and the heat it produces if used for longer periods. But suspect that it is the same with all of these machines regardless of the make or model ( obviously a high speed motor in a enclosed body working against resistance will heat up.)But if used for a few minutes at a time and allowed to cool down a little bit it's not really a problem. Not a professional, but it suits my needs perfectly. Read full review...

This is a brilliant bit of kit, it feels such good quality and well built for a bargain price. I've been looking at these for a while now, and have to say I was impressed with the good reviews of this Silverline example. I love that it doesn't have a big motor stuck on the side to get in way, the way the belt-head angles easily, and the simple belt changing system. The on/off switch and speed dial fall readily to hand, and the whole thing is solid and weighty, but not so big that it's cumbersome or fatigue inducing - just enough to be confidence inspiring and easy to hold steady. I would have preferred a wider range of belt grits to come as standard in the kit. The one's provided are very coarse, but that's a minor gripe, they are standard fitting and easily obtainable. All in all I would thoroughly recommend this tool.

First looking specs 260w motor dosen't seem much...But it dosen't need to be... this tool ain't for heavy duty sanding...It's mostly for finishing and as replacement for file tool.As long as you don't apply excessive force while sanding it works perfectly for finishing edges of machined aluminium or steel pieces.Using excessive force makes the machine warm up and most likely brakes the motor at some point. Other one is that sanding belt snaps more easily when too much force is used... If only slight pressure is used the machine works like a dream for it's costs...if you are tired for using manual file tool for finishing edges of machined pieces... this machine is for you... it does what it needs to do...and standard size belt is easy to acquire.

I bought this product to prepare some awkward areas on a Land Rover chassis for welding, which it did very well. Usually welding preparation would be by grinding but no way could this be done due to accessibility, but by being able to adjust the file angle in relation to the motor, the file was able to run flat and with a coarse grade the paint was soon stripped away right back to bright metal. Not the most powerful tool, but adequate - and not difficult to overload it, but if used within its limits it does the job - especially if using fresh belts.Light to use with multiple speeds, thin to get into places but with a big enough tip to dig into localized depressions or to really clean up a small area.Good value for money.Recommended.

It is ideal for all those little, menial jobs. The handle tilts freely approximately 45-50 degrees. Changing the belt is very easy, as the bearing retracts when pushed.Variable 6 speeds, slighlty quiter than a jigsaw. The diameter of the bearing with the sandpaper is about 18mm, which is perfect to carve nicely a passage for the water pipes.Cant say much about the sturdiness, as I haven't been using it continuosly for more than 3h, but heyho, it's cheap and did the job I wanted very well. The colour scheme resembles one of the leading market brand, therefore it will fit nicely between your pro-line Bosch tools :-)

the Silverline power file seems to be very well made and robust, also i bought some belts before and they were a little longer than 457mm and were no good for my other power file but the arm on this one popped right out to fit the larger belt so a bonus for me, it's a bit lighter than my other one which is 400 watt with the motor out the side, you can hear and feel the difference in power between the 400 watt but i have had occasion to turn it down so that's not a problem, i use them in welding and wood carving, i really like the shape of it too, all in all i would recommend it to anyone.regards kenny

Bought specifically to file welds inside a car box section where an angle grinder couldn't reach. Obviously slower than a grinder, but brilliant for reaching the areas other tools can't. Better than every other belt file sander available due to the slim and angle adjustable body/handle. Other products would not have worked due to their bulk. Have found numerous other uses for it since and have stocked up on plenty of belts - not that it wears them out excessively, but I've been using it for all sorts of jobs that I wouldn't have considered one of these for. One of my top 3 best tools ever!!!!

This is a really lightweight power sander, that will help you in sanding tight spaces (13mm+), .. where normal bigger sanders can't go in. You may think that it is those one-off tools that you need just for a project. But, it can't be far away from the truth. I bought this initially during my pergola build to sand the notches on girders and rafters (over 180 notches !), but have used it since to sand various odds pieces in my projects. This is fantastic value for the money, and I would highly recommend it. I do have a video review on this as well on Youtube (Just search by my name)
