When I saw the screens of this game online I asked myself would it be any good. Upon receiving the game and playing the first few levels I was acutally quite impressed with the way it's been put together and the level of difficulty each stage represents after the defeat of the first boss (the earlier stages are quite straightforward and give u a fraction of the games true difficulty level). So how does it stack up against Monster Hunter? Well to be frank both games are in a different class from each other in the sense that this game is slightly more challenging. Fair enough graphically its not as great as MH but the level of gameplay I find is far higher and more taxing than MH could everbe. There's no point in stunning visuals if the gameplay doesn't stack up as we've seen in previous RPG's in the same genre. As for this one being a rip-off actually I quite disagree, it's just one in a vast universe of similarly styled games where you develop your character, deal with enemies and collect items. Whether u make an RPG medieval or futuristic they are all pretty much the same. What this game does in terms of gameplay is limit the battlefield by transporting you to an arena, preventing you as a player from using drawn out hit and run tactics over a vast landscape and instead forcing you to think on your feet and try to formulate a quick strategy rather than a drawn out one.GAMEPLAY - The game is fairly challenging and some of the enemies in the latter stages become quite taxing if you do not customise your avatar with the best choice wargear as different weapons have stronger or weaker effects on different opponents. Creating new weapons is a strange affair that takes some getting used to but entertaining none the less. Enemy characters range from the very small standard goblins to an assortment of hard to kill beasts that vary in size and strategy for defeating them. The fight system is fairly good, with some of the more difficult boss fights being fairly long but not drawn out (anyone remember Nightmare from DMC???).SOUND - The in-game music is atmospheric and matches up with the gameplay and the overall feel of the game, as what you would typically expect from a Square Enix game.PACKAGING - As well as the game, this Slayer Edition (although I haven't seen a Standard one yet) boasts a mini CD soundtrack containing several tracks from within the game, and also a hardback art book detailing a majority (but not all) of the enemies from the game providing excellent value for money.

The game itself so far seems like a more Gothic, "Devil May Cry-esque" verson of Monster Hunter in terms of actual gameplay and style, allowing you to wave around large weapons at very large monsters, take on side-missions and make shiny goods. The biggest let-down though is the camera, as only the D-pad can turn it, leaving you at the mercy of locking on and hoping. You immediately get to choose from 5 weapon types from the get go and are thrust into high level battles (albeit extremely easy as you're walked through a tutorial). The character creation is also reasonably choicy too, giving you the options of gender, features, haircut, colour, skin colour, voice and a few other accessories.Graphics are expected from PSP,but not the best it has to offer at what you'd consider standard if not weak PS2 graphics. The sounds, however is reasonably crisp with a decent score (from what I listened too). The extra features that come with the box are lovely, giving you a nice little mini-cd with a few in-game tracks and a really nice, hardback artbook. It also has 50% off of Crystal Defenders from PSN, but by the time I bought it, it had expired.

it's been a long time sind squeenix have released a game worth paying full dosh for, and it looks like it will still be a long time coming. Lord of Arcana is bland and generic, mixing the poor character modelling of squeenix's psp legacy with themes from just about every game they've ever made. Even the battle theme is ripped nigh note for note from Lord of Vermillion. Althoough hearing a bit of nobuo is no bad thing. The game itself is passable, a simplified mission-mode-from-crisis-core type encounter battle slasher with simple crafting and online play. And the hallmark of new games comes with the very-hard-to-beat-boss-fights,some of which take the michael quite liberally. All in all not worth £30 but if you can get it for a tenner it's a fun waste of an afternoon.

A great game for its time and when I first played it my old psp screen was dirty and old but on the new one I own I can say that the game runs smoothly, The menus are simple and to the point, Soundtrack is awesome everything is as advertised I love the fact the game box that holds the mini disc and UMD and manual is red which honestly adds to itI ordered this and I got this early which honestly surprised me but at the same time made me happy because I can just get to playing it

As I've said, the game is very similar to the play style of Monster Hunter. So, expect things like doing quests, killing giant monsters, getting better equipment and other related RPG aspects. Since this game is made by the famous developers of the Final Fantasy series, there is more elements of story telling in this game compared to Monster Hunter. As a whole, it's a fun game to play and I would recommend it if you're a fan of Monster Hunter or like playing RPG's.

I've never been a great fan of Monster Hunter so this game caught my very easily, everyone says this a copy of Monster Hunter but it is not, it is a completely different game, you can use Magics and summons, thats what got my eye, hunter monsters is one thing that is the same as Monster hunter. If your a monster hunter fan DONT GET THIS GAME,If you haven't played Monster Hunter this a good start , Square Enix... This is a good start:)
