THIS IS THE BEST GAME ON THE PSP, TO DATE!Im baffled at why some of the previous reviewers have slated this game.To me it sounds like a bet gone wrong, as there is not a genuine gripe in the whole paragraph! (a lot of the negative comments sound nonsensical, I mean not being able to open the box if not standing face on is pretty standard stuff in gaming and the alternative is a game where boxes etc can be opened from the side or when not next to it, which then look like pixel glitches (takes me back to the NES or Mastersystem. lol)This game is truly GREAT!, I had it on PS2 and played it to death,(one of the only games I would play on Hard mode and then after completing it play it again immediately after in God mode to see what extra has been included. There are a lot of elements from this game which feature in others but not done as well. The 'Hack and Slash' element of the game is VERRRRRRYY SATISFYING! I could sit and do that for hours, like i do. This game has everything, puzzles which make you have to put your thinking cap on and at times have you stuck in a room for hours trying to find a way out, but eventually you figure them out. (Its not so hard that Ive had to look for cheats etc)The translation from Playstation 2 - PSP is amazing! Obviously the keen eyed can spot the differences and the places in which they could not completely replicate the action from PS2, but the effort is valiant to say the least. If youve never seen the PS2 version then your none the wiser.Ready at Dawn Studios deserve the highest accolade you can receive for video gaming. (The graphics, the game play, the scenery, the epic proportions of the landscape, and the courage to have a human sized character battling GIGANTIC Gods and Demons, Cut scene story is very well drawn and written. They could keep this series going on for ever, set in different times, places, with different monsters. A Prequel game with Kratos in battle as a human is a game they surely need to make!11 out of 10!

The PSP doesn't have as many games as some other consoles, but it has some fantastic ones. God of War: Chains of Olympus is no exception. You play Kratos, and basically need to fight your way through a mythical world fighting the baddies along the way.Firstly the graphics are superb. This is a great looking game, and certainly one of the best on the PSP. It isn't just the quality, it is the striking imagery that does it. The sound is also very good. Good use of dramatic music to really draw you in.In terms of gameplay, I was a little surprised (I haven't played any of the other games in the franchise). You basically hack away at your enemies using a variety of gruesome moves and weapons until, with the bigger opponents, you get the opportunity to perform a "finish", which is basically where you press O, then the prompted buttons (pretty sharpish) to execute a sequence where your opponent is finished-off. This could involve tearing his/her head off, ramming your blade in the head, etc, etc. Pretty gruesome but higher entertaining (for well balanced adults!!) stuff. Imagine it is your boss and it becomes quite fun! While it quite a linear game compared to some, there are also different puzzles to solve along the way to keep you thinking. These are a really good feature and along with the "O" prompt described above, really separate the game from a more typical hack and slash type fare. The game itself is pretty short (probably took me 12 or 15 hours to get through but maybe because I died more than some!), but there is a reasonable amount of bonus material to work through if you are that way inclined. I am about to go through the game again on a higher skill level (I very rarely do that on games!) because although I have a bit of a backlog of games to play at the moment, this one is just so entertaining.Overall, I think anyone over 18, who has a PSP should buy this (especially at the Platinum price).

First impressions were that the graphics looked smooth and everything flowed pretty well with little slowdown. Sometime the frame rate will struggle to keep up but it's rare and lasts less then a second. The controls are easy to get on with, you have two attack buttons which can be used together to pull of combos, a block button and you can also dodge using the shoulder buttons and also your special attacks come from holding down L1 and using one of the four buttons on the front of the console. The story and cut sense are very good slandered and entertaining throughout the game but the quick time events can be frustrating at times as they could be quite fast. The early stages when you have mini boss fights require you to finish off the bosses with quick time events but get it wrong and the boss regains half his health...............Half? It's a bit much. The funny thing is that later in the game this no longer happens and any enemy you have to use quicktime events on still has it if you get it wrong. As you power up the game gets easier and easier especially the end which is a little disappointing, also the length of the game is very short. I finished it in a day and a half and that's only playing for a few hours.Sometimes open chests and doors can be frustrating as you have to be standing in the correct place to get the option to open.I feel that they have concentrated to much on quick time events rather then stick to epic boss battles and this is a shame as it gets a bit too much. This is the only problem with the game, its fun to play, a great story and I suppose it would have a replay value. My recommendation would be to start on Hard if you plan to go through it once. You can pick it up for £10 so it's more then worth it for this price.

God of War (GoW) is one of those games you didn't know you needed until you'd bought it. GoW is a gloriously violent action game reminiscent of the Devil May Cry series, even down to the collectible orbs and the pink 'ghost' walls that block your passage. The lead character, Kratos, an unrelenting anti-hero, is doomed to serve the Gods until Zeus and his cronies see fit to release him from bondage, which as fans of the series will know, is not for a long time. This is easily the best adventure game on the PSP. There are only about seven levels, ranging from the fields of Elysium to the barren Underworld, but each one is populated with hordes of monsters, all beautifully rendered. There aren't many new beasts (many come from previous installments) but if you're a newcomer to the series, you've got nothing to worry about.GoW is much shorter than say, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, but its brevity is offset by the difficulty level. Even on normal, monsters can cause you grief, and you may find yourself replaying sections frequently. I managed to get about 4 days out of the main storyline, but there's an added God Mode (very hard difficulty) and a string of devious challenges to complete. Kratos's second costume is worth a giggle too.The game is very cinematic - cutscenes and "ruthless kills" often require button presses to complete. These can be fun or very tedious, due to the nature of the PSP's analog stick. But the vast majority of button events can be ignored - there's more than one way to decapitate a harpy.GoW has an 18 certificate for strong bloody violence - please heed it! The level of violence is innitially a little shocking, but the more you play, the more bloodthirsty you'll become! Highly recommended.

This is a great looking game, some of the best graphics seen on the PSP and a decent story line. I never played the Ps2 versions so didn't quite know what to expect, turns out it's just a simple hack 'n slash 'Golden Axe' type game with fancier graphics and some very simple puzzles thrown in to try and dilute the relentless button bashing. I completed this on the normal setting in about 6 hours, quite short but long enough as the game does start to get repetitive. On the more difficult settings you can't quite get by on just button bashing so there is plently of reply value to try and perfect your fighting skills. There are some mini games/challenges available once you have completed the main game although I haven't fully tried these out yet.By many this is seen as one of the best if not THE best PSP game available, although I completely and utterly enjoyed it at the end of the day it is nothing more than a button basher. If you like your platform games with a little more variety I'd recommend Daxter or if you're looking for a good action game I'd recommend Killzone Liberation over God of War.

With God of War 3 on the horizon I thought this would be the ideal time to review the PSP game Chains of Olympus. Set before the first God of War, this outing sees Kratos go on a quest to release Helios from the depths of Tartarus. However before doing so he has to massacre an entire Persian army at the Greek city of Atticha. So from the Temple of Helios, to the summit of Mount Olympus and beyond we see Kratos fighting his way to try to rid himself of the nightmares of his past. This may be very well, you think talking about the setting, but what about the gameplay. Well all the moves are the same as the PS2 games, so you don't have to learn new button combinations. There are new magic attacks,as well as creatures to slay including Banshee's and Saber-tooth tiger's. However the game is easier than the others and the story is short with around 8 to 10 hours play. There are mini games and artwork and deleted scenes to unlock. However if you don't own a PSP you aren't missing out on anything, as all the God Of War games play the same, a must for die hard fans only.

Having read other reviews of this game I can only conclude that other reviewers had the same I wish I could carry on playing feeling I got on completing this excellent game. Yes, the game only lasts about 7 or 8 hours but this sort of length is only really a problem because you could quite easily play it straight through without wanting to stop. For a portable system, really it is good length as games are more likely to be played in short bursts whilst out and about. The storyline is subversive and leaves you wanting more but this game is about more than that. The graphics are excellent and the gameplay is fantastic. The only negative thoughts I can have is after struggling to put this game down and picking it up in every spare second I had, there is one point where the pacing of the story makes the game drag slightly. Having said this it is still the best game available or at least the best I have played.I thoroughly recommend it and suggest you buy it , love and beat it just like I have.

If you never played a "God Of War" game (shame on you), don't worry because this game story is a prequel to the excellent games of PS2, where you are Kratos, the spartan warrior, who's instructed by the godess Athenas, to find Helios, the god of sun in order to drive away Morpheus, god of dreams, who as put the Olympian gods into a deep slumber. One of the best graphics in a Sony handheld, great epic combat, great puzzles and a bit platforming, make this game one of the reasons to buy a Playstation Portable. The only negative side of this game is the slow frame rate when too many things are on screen at once, but nothing that happens too often. If you like Greek mythology, brutal hack n'slash combat with gigantic bosses, buy this amazing PSP game !

I Got god of war chains of olympus,at game to play on the plane to greece (because i was going on holiday).Having never played a god of war game before even though i own a ps2, i am simply amazed at how good it is! The story is engaging and deep, the controls are simple and fun to use and even the QTE's are fun!PRO'S:Amazing graphics (at times i thought i was playing on my 360!)Good solid controls.Deep engaging story. Some unlockables.CON'S:short and i mean it! It took me under 7 hours to complete on lowest diffulty. No online,co-op or multiplayer.OVERALL: An amazing exclusive hack and slasher with brains, albeit a bit short.

storyline, gameplay, graphics, sound, are all excellent, sound effects and music are so much better with earphones, and makes the game alot more emersive. only real gripe is that some parts of the game on normal mode drive you mad with frustration as they are ten times harder than surrounding scenes, easy mode on this game is so easy that it's almost like watching a movie. so if you want to play this game properly (normal mode) prepare to be frustrated on occassion.I have completed this game on normal mode, and easy mode, I have also completed g.o.w 1,2,and 3 on the ps3. and this game is just as good as any of the ps3 titles

2.2.2009

Once I picked it up I scarcely put it down again. Very addictive. Gameplay generally very good for a hack n slash, with a reliance on (a little finger-killing but still very doable) quick time events.Graphics - For any game - pretty competent, but for a PSP particularly well done. They've chosen colours you can actually easiy see on the screen so it's possible to play on the train.Gameplay - it's a button-bashing adventure where you add moves and weapons with experience - If that's your thing (in my case it is) it's very well packages and delivered. The extra add-on missions are also a bit of a giggle.

It's a few years old now, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better game regardless of genre. Fantastic graphics amid an epic Ancient Greece atmosphere, Chains of Olympus is a prequel to the mega popular titles available for PlayStation 2 & 3.PSP's attraction over nintendo's DS is its mature, console in your pocket mindset, and GoW:CoO executes this ideal perfectly. Simply put, if you own a PSP, and have not purchased this game yet, SHAME ON YOU!(note: this game is not suitable for children)

28.1.2010

If you've ever played a God of war game before then you'll know what to expect and amazingly nothing has been removed to fit it onto PSP it's the best game the PSP has to offer (so far). It still has Plenty of enemies on screen, huge tough bosses, lots of weapons to use, great graphics and not a bad sized story. The only problems with it are that some rooms can be so huge that when the camera zooms out you can have trouble seeing kratos and it is very tough near the end.

6.5.2010

The best action game on the PSP, if not the best overall. Fantastic graphics, remains true to the GoW title and hard to put down. The story flows well and although the game is fairly short (that is from someone who is an experienced GoW player) there is a fine line between too short (I want more) and too long (I am getting bored). A must have in your PSP collection. In case you are not aware, a new PSP GoW title - Ghost of Sparta is due in late 2010.

30.10.2010

This was one of the 1st games I bought for my PSP when I eventually purchased one in June of this year (2010).All in all a brilliant PSP game. The graphics are excellent as is the gameplay and smoothness of the game.I got more enjoyment from playing this game then I did GOW 3 on my PS3.I would highly recommend it and the only criticism I have is that it felt a bit short and I think I completed it in about 6-7 hrs.4 out of 5!!
