While I was drifting off to sleep last week I was listing (as a gaming nerd does) my top 10 video games of all time and I was struggling with my top 5. For a long time I had considered Bloodborne to be the best video game I had ever played (check it out it's great), for its haunting atmosphere, cryptic and horrifying story, brutal gameplay, truly outstanding DLC etc etc. But when I thought it through I had to ask myself, "was it FUN'. It was certainly immersive, certainly captivated me, I certainly replayed it and obsessed about it...But was it fun? Or was it just an incredibly excellent, brutal, perfect horror masterpiece? (don't get me wrong it sits rotating around my top 5 favourite games still)I asked myself the same question regarding the Last of Us.An incredible, immersive, beautifully (if tragically) told story of loss, and family...It's an incredible game, an incredible story, but I don't think I had FUN while playing it... And so I asked myself, "what makes a perfect video game"?In the 80's a perfect game would have meant a game that was perfectly fun. I would argue the same would go for the first half of the 90's, fun, great gameplay, great characters, memorable level design etc.. Then something shifted around the time Tomb raider, Final Fantasy 7 and then Metal Gear Solid came out. Games transcended themselves. Tomb Raider, FF7 and MGS are all fun games, with great design and memorable stuff, but they were not JUST fun, they were also trying to tell a coherent story...Games were becoming art.And now we have games that are fun but challenge us in no way whatsoever (I'm looking at YOU annual call of duty/Fifa/Insert sports game from EA here)And then we have games that are akin to art but, truly, I wouldn't want to play for a casual beer or two (Last of Us, Silent hill 2, Bloodborne...things like that!)And so I asked myself what Game is, A) Fun by modern gaming standards, B) has gameplay that is excellent by modern gaming standards, C) has atmosphere and design that is top tier, D) has a captivating story that is both enjoyable and challenging AND mature, E) has replay value and, MOST IMPORTANTLY AFTER ALL THAT f) does not outstay its welcome (I'm looking at you Skyrim/Witcher 3/Fallout/ANY OPEN WORLD SANDBOX that's main selling point is its size)And so I went down my list of top 10 games...Bloodborne was shoved off the top, last of us was shoved off the top, ff7 is too dated to stay at the top, so too is metal gear solid, so too are my other favourite games such as old Ninja Gaiden Black (which is brilliant) and God of war 2 (2007).... I cannot think of a single other game that comes close to rivaling God of War (2018) for its depth, its scope, its mature story, its fun gameplay, its world design that is big, but not so big you end up doing nothing... The characters and their growth is wonderful to experience, it is not too linear, nor too expansive, it is restrained when it has to be and allows subtle moments to stay with you and not just rely on larger than life bragging rights... It pays homage to its own legacy while moving forward with humility and wisdom; it too pays great respect to the games it takes influence from; combat from dark souls; story telling quality from games such as Last of Us and uncharted; it allows a little dungeons crawling but not too much...The story is king here and the story is wonderful.I'm sure a game in the future will do it better, I'm sure something will take the technology of tomorrow and craft a perfect slice of fun and art and immersion...but for now I believe God of War 2018 to be the single best video game ever made (for adults at least)

Oh my God. I never played any of 3 previous GoW games, so didn’t have any expectations for this one. After seeing/reading so many incredibly positive reviews and seeing how many awards this game won – I simply had to try it out and I can’t stop playing it. It’s amazing. Easily in my top 10 best games of this console generation, if not top 10 of all times (and I’m 35). It’s visually stunning, has very addictive gameplay and fighting system, has interesting story (and I’m an atheist), good resource management and level up system, full of interesting characters etc. If I want to be really picky and someone pays me to find flaws – there aren’t any still. Some might call various enemies too challenging, but in my opinion it’s perfect – not too hard like From Software games (unless we talk about some Valkyries in GoW) and not too easy to become boring. I’m mostly done with the main story (just a few quests left), almost done with side quests and managed to find vast majority of collectibles and secrets. It’s very rarely when I look into each corner of any game as it becomes boring rather quickly, but this game somehow managed to do it well. I don’t have much more to say, really. Looking forward for GoW 2 (or GoW 5?). Extremely great game and at this new price – it’s a bargain. If I paid 3 times more I still would have been happy.

I've played all the previous god of war games so going by that when it was first revealed I was put off big time. But after it was released and I kind of spoiled it for myself but I ended up watching it on youtube and whaddyaknow! I thought this was a reboot with a completely different take on god of war and it is but it actually picks up from where three left off, although I miss the kratos of the old games the new one is equally badass. The controls take a little getting used to but otherwise everything is spot on. They've gone from the old look of the game to something that is very realistic and it looks fantastic believe me.I haven't actually played through and I'm actually in the beginning but what I've experienced so far makes me say "this is what first party games should be" cough cough*crackdown 3* best thing is you dont even need to have played the previous games to enjoy this but if you have played the previous ones you'll be doing alot of "aah that's what they mean". Its beautiful to look at and a joy to play and even the soundtrack epic. What's not to like so hurry up and get it, your getting one helluva game for next to nothing. Especially with what's goin on nowadays with all this self isolating,if your a gamer you need this!!

I bought this game as a friend recommended it I've been considering it for a while and after watching a youtube video, I decided to get it. and oh my god was I blown away. I don't normally like this type of game, but I really like this game it has everything you could want from a game and the fact that you have to figure things out for yourself it good as it makes you think. and also working out which strategy works fort killing enemy is good too especally the boss fights. I also really love the combat and the kill animations are great, the graphics are out of the world. it's a massive open world to explore and it can be very frustrating at times to defeat an enemy. but the actual gameplay is amazing.the boss fights are intense especially the dragon. overall I would have to say if you are considering it I say just goi for it I absolutely love the game. good story and the dialogue is great especially with the blue elf when you first mee him lol. don't hesitate just go buy it and you won't regret it

I have loved all the gow games, so I was excited to see this when it first came out. I've had it for over a year. Playing it off and on. I had played most of it on my husbands ps4, so when my hubbie got me my own, I started to play it all again. I'm managed to complete it in 4/5 days but that was me playing it for hours, and I mean hours. The game play its self is out standing, the graphics are amazing and the story mode can pull at the heart strings when it comes Kratos and his son Atreus. The game can pull you right in and make you feel for the characters, I found I did this alot with Kratos and Atreus, angry one minute then feel it in the old heart strings the next. After completing it,you can explore further, but in my opinion I think they have left the game open for a new one, or I can just be hoping. This was a journey with a father and a son that I will never forget.

An epic game. Im not usually a fan of this genre however, as it was available at a good price (£12) I decided to give it a go. I dont regret it and my mind was blown at how far games have come. Its classed as an open world game, which I feel is partly true, certainly the map is huge and the fighting and gameplay is incredibly satisfying. Not to mention the emotional story and journey. Sont hesitate to give this a go. Incredible landscapes and scenery, epic boss battles, fantastic mythical creatures and monsters and a great protagonist....

I was put off this game initially by some reviews which said it was boring.. really?? The start of the game is building the story and tends to be more of a platform game but as it progresses you can follow the story-line or explore a bit more. This game is far from boring. I have mostly been following the story and love the relationship between Kratos and Atreus and all the other characters they meet as well as learning a bit about Greek/Norse mythology along the way. I would definitely recommend.

I'm not far into the game, but have probably seen enough to write a "so far so great" review. 1: these are hands down the best graphics I've ever seen on a computer game. The play of light and dark, the vivid colours and set designs are- for me- genuinely incredible. 2: I find the gameplay intuitive, and the fight scenes properly epic! I've come to this game from Dark Souls Remastered, so I'm not finding the fights as challenging (or frustrating!!), but then this is a very different game. Enjoy!

Graphically, especially if you have a 4K HDR TV, it's amazing. Best looking game so far. Although I've not finished yet, so far it's incredible. I'm around 15% through. There's 4 difficulty levels which is helpful as my reflexes aren't the best. As you progress you trade artifacts you find for better armour, skills and weapons. both for you and your son. Experience point you collect help towards these also. Creatures you battle are amazing, just use some patience to progress. Enjoy the journey

This is what I was waiting for. I played when my wife was 7 months pregnant having a boy. The feeling of playing this game and experiencing it fatherhood bit in advance was a wonderful feeling. This game will stay close to my heart.Great graphics, great settings and great storyline. Everything was top notch. Challenges in the game lives up for the word. Every gamer should experience this in their life as this game will live forever.Kratos and Atreus for the win!!Looking forward for GOW 2.

God of War differs from the previous series titles by confronting the player with a visibly aged Kratos and by introducing his son. The game is clearly more serious in its overall presentation compared to the angry and bloodthirsty Kratos in earlier instalments of the series. The gameplay is also improved, perhaps somewhat more challenging, with its fluid combat animations and rewarding loot system. Bosses remain daunting and the storytelling keeps players engaged until the end. A superb game!

I was abit worried about buying this game as I had not played the others in the series, however I was pleasently surprised to find out you don't need to have played the others. The graphics are fantastic and some of the best I have ever seen in a game. It also has one of the best stories I have ever played. If you are a fan of single play games this is a must buy for sure. I have said it was difficult only because I played it on a hard setting but you can change it to a setting suited for you.

9.5.2018

An action packed and awesome journey throughout numerous realms in what is nothing short of a masterpiece. It’s a game which shows Kratos as his usual angry (I don't care about anyone but myself) self but also touches on his warrior spirit and shows an almost soft side coming out while spending time with his son through the ups and downs of their journey. The crafting of the world, characters (a good upgrade system), and gameplay delivers easily the most memorable game in the series.

29.9.2020

Amazing game. From the graphics to the size of the universe you are playing in this game is a masterpiece. The story is gripping from start to finish with no lulls you normally see in an open world game like this.If you have the time, I'd highly recommend completing everything on this game, from the simple collecting side missions to the beating of all 9 Valkyries (brace yourself for the queen!). The reward of seeing that Platinum in your profile for this game is very satisfactory.

12.9.2018

This game is simply outstanding. This brief review does little to describe the scope and feeling that went into the creation of this game. From the character design, to voice acting, to lore, to heart-rending story, this game was created by people who know how to tell and make an emotionally driven narrative. While the initial learning curve is high, and will possibly require lowering the difficulty setting, the story and gameplay more than overshadow this. Check it out.
