I know the heading is a really bold start so I will explain MY experience with them.Initially I had a well known rivals bulbs, which involved installing a hub, and firstly I was very disappointed at the brightness of them, but after 6 days the hub packed in altogether, leaving me in darkness, and as I am disabled I had to sit in darkness (except for the TV) for 3 hours, until my wife came home from work, where she removed the bulbs and put in the original standard LED's back in.So with the brightness issue and the hub failure I needed a much better solution, so I looked on YouTube and other online reivews, which not only proved that I was right about the brightness of my old system being poor, but also thet the colour rendition was poor too... so I concluded I would give LIFX a go as they seemed perfect.By the way, this was over 3 1/2 years ago when LIFX were £20 more than they are now, so not cheap, but it was the light output and reliability that I wanted, not the cheapest available bulb !I did look at other reviews on here too and yes they are slightly 'fiddly' to set up especially at first, and also if you have to reset them (i.e. turn the light on and off 3 times) but I have only had to reset one bulb once because my MY error.A lot of reviewers tend to blame the bulbs, where clearly it is a problem with the router, as I found out early on as I added more home automation to my set up.My original modem router was a 2012 Netgear one, near the top of the range in those days, and my original LIFX bulbs were not a problem, but then I started adding smart plugs, few start with, then I added more smart speakers and doorbells... hat is where the problems really started... something or even everything would drop out at least one a day but usually twice... yes I could have blamed, LIFX, smart plugs, doorbells etc but it really pointed to one thing my aging Modem/Router, so time for an upgrade (this is especially so if you have a ISP router you get free, these are definitely NOT made for home automation, think : "Why did I get this free ?", thereby lies the answer. So as my "need" for home automation was picking up speed (I was buying more but not Installing then as I knew the router was literally at breaking point) I decided to update my Netgear to a more modern/powerful one, one that was the bottom end of a gaming router really.WOW, what difference... I now have literally 88 'items attached'... no problem, has NEVER dropped out either !Back to the bulbs now : For starters, I used to have 60W tungsten bulbs originally and the highest I run the LIFX at is 80%... and they are definitely brighter than the 60W old bulbs. The other make were run at 100% and were far dimmer than the old 60W bulbs.I was so impressed that I actually started taking an interest in lighting for the first time, and we found that changing the colour temperature in the kitchen, bathroom and my computer room to "cool white" (like most office lighting) was MUCH better and pleasing, and made reading anything a lot easier too, whereas in the bedroom, living room etc, a "warm white" (slightly yellow, more like the old tungsten light) was more relaxing. Then of course there is the '%' brightness, it was great to turn down the brightness for instance when watching TV.Not to mention turning the lights on and off !Even better I am able to control the lights via Alexa and Google Home (yes, I have both) both on/off, % brightness AND colour on colour bulbs. These LED's are strong and VERY well made, they just ooze quality, you realise that when you feel the weight of them. The fact they are their own 'individual hub' means that IF one bulb does fail (as I say, none of mine have, and as I am virtually housebound and I am sure my light are on a lot more then the average house) ALL the rest will still work, so I know I won't be left in darkness again.Unlike other makes fitting them takes 5 minutes, no removing/replacing switches etc, if you can change a bulb you can fit these. You have to have the normal light switch switched on all the time though. initially we used sellotape, but it looked awful, we found the "Switch Bridge 3 Pack" (search for that on Amazon), which are easy to attach to stop people accidentally turning the switch off, but you can still operate the switch though the slot with the little gadget they provide, should you need to replace the bulb or reset it as I mentioned earlier. The other advantage with these is that if you move, undo the LIFX bulb, put the original LED one back in, and remove the switch covers I mentioned, compare that to other systems !I have a multi-bulb set up in the living room of 5 bulbs but I was the first to admit that the standard LIFX with their flat face looked awful, but then the bought out the "Mini' bulb" which is near enough then same size as the old tungsten bulbs.. and even better they did not only a colour version but a "Day and Dusk" version which you can allow to let the bulb change it colour temperature automatically during the day... but you can also have them set to a specific colour temperature too, certainly cool white and warm white are possible plus lots more. The app is one of the best, and a joy to use, but while I initially experimented with it, I found that using voice control was fine 99.9% of the time for what I wanted to do.Now the price has come down on the 'Color 1100' (the spec is slightly better too) bulbs I have just bought two more, one for the kitchen and the other for my computer room.Everyone will have difference experiences with products they buy but please, please look at the possibility that it could be other things, and even if you do swap to another make you will still have problems because of that.Another thing I 'stumbled across' was that changing the channel on your 2.4GHz band will also solve a lot of problems as your neighbours router could be on the same channel and causing interreference (Use a "Wi-Fi Analyser app" on your phone or Google it for more details), also microwaves etc. can cause interreference, maybe you might need a 'signal booster'.I am not saying ALL poor reviews aren't justified, just that some mentioned on here are other problems and not the products, and we can't all be experts, but I am in my seventies, disabled and can still manage to do some of things - if I can't there are groups and the internet search engines you can turn to before giving up, and I am the first to admit I sometimes don't read the instructions fully (… it's a man thing !) then when I do, problem is solved, as the saying goes "If all else fails, read the instructions !"If you buy ANY LIFX bulbs, take a little time setting then up then you will have no problems at all, they are definitely affordable now and you will really appreciate them and what they can do or you.I have no connection with LIFX at all, just a fortunate customer who found the solution to a couple of problems by using these bulbs !Hope this has helped even one person.

I have three of these now and two of their Dawn/Dusk Mini ones for the bedside lights. These are pretty bright considering and are perfect for an overhead lamp replacement. Just make sure you don't run these from a dimmer. You can replace a wall dimmer switch with a normal switch and turn the light on and off as normal from the switch. This kind of defeats the point of owning one and using the app or asking Alexa to make changes for you though. The first one I set up was super easy but the two Dawn/Dusk Mini's took a bit more time for some reason. Once set up, you can get in to the pleasures of creating scenes and setting schedules (do consider buying more than one though as they start to take over your inner lighting designer!).I use a combination of these and some Tp-Link 13amp Smart plugs to turn things on and off. I have evening light settings, morning light settings, bright light settings etc all which are triggered through the Alexa apps routines. The whole eco system of smart apps and the Alexa app is somewhat rudimentary at this stage (Dec 2017) and although I have a very technical mind, I have struggled many aspects of this system as in with the importing of scenes (and editing scenes then importing them again) as the Alexa system (as a main hub) obviously relies on using a different app for each smart manufacturer and then importing the scenes that you have made (which is actually quite well done). It was for this reason that I thought if I was going to get smart lighting and other smart devices, I should try and stick with one manufacturer to avoid having to jump between too many apps to create my scenes. If i've lost anyone at this stage then it's probably due to the fact that I still remain somewhat lost in finding the best way to stick all of this smart home stuff together. If you imagine having some Philips Hue lights, some of these and some Innr bulbs. This would require a philips Hue hub and three different apps, not including Alexa (if you plan on going the Alexa route obviously!). I can't imaging how painful it would be to jump between three lighting apps to set up a few different lights that may be in the same room. In this case, I would recommend you consider this issue highly and maybe consider sticking with one manufacturer or at least as few as you possibly can. Personally, I think i've made a good choice with the Lifx stuff AND I don't need any form of central hub to make these work in our house as you just connect them to your wifi and you're done. Next stage is a Drayton Wiser or Tado heating system with smart TRVs.

Setup was a bit of a faff with a few steps that need to be followed in the correct order and aren't obvious. Once I figured out I needed to connect my phone to the bulb's wifi network and not my usual router, everything after that was fairly straightforward. Initial setup time was maybe 10 minutes but this should be a lot faster if I decide to add more bulbs.Once installed and with the firmware (automatically) updated, everything worked fine. The app is very simple in terms of selecting colour and brightness and the Alexa integration was decent, although if you want a specific setting you're better off using the app as Alexa gets confused if you try and adjust more than 1 thing in a single command. The app also has a series of 'Themes' with names like 'Relaxing' which don''t always feel accurate. Maybe they work better with a multiple bulb setup but with one bulb, "Cheerful" and "Energizing" are sickly shades of blue usually found in public toilets, and "Relaxing" is a retina blasting green. It sometimes also says it's lost connection to a bulb and requires going back to the main menu to get it working again.I've only had it installed for a day, but I love it. I have a smallish room with a shade that's open at the bottom, directly over the bed and it was far too bright trying to read late at night. The ability to dim the bulb without rewiring anything is a winner, and the colour options and Alexa integration are welcome bonuses. It's expensive and there are a few minor niggles with the app but overall, it works great. If you want to try out smart home lighting but don't want to commit to a hub or extra kit, this is ideal.

This smart light has helped to convince me to get into smart home improvement, as it has significantly helped my daily life and routine. The application sometimes fails to register the light on the network, but usually corrects itself after a few seconds, however that does not matter too much when most of the lights usability is automated, both through the mobile app and thanks to IFTTT.After setting up some basic routines within the LifX app, such as to make the lights brighten to full brightness over a 30 minute period to help slowly wake me up for the day ahead, and setting it to gently dim to a warm white in the evening so that I can get settled for bed easier, using IFTTT allowed me to program the light to turn on when I was nearby, so I wouldn't even need to open the app to turn the light on if I came in late, and then programming the reverse meant that when I leave in the morning for university or work, the light will turn itself off when I'm out of the local area, meaning it saves power when not needed, and doesn't appear out of order.Being able to set routines with the light also helps when going on holiday, as you can program the light to turn on at certain times of the day, on certain days if you want to, so that there is no longer a need for socket timers if you want the house/flat to appear lived in whilst you take a deserved break.I will certainly be buying more of these, although I may need to improve my home network a bit more to support the bandwidth that multiple lights will likely take up.

After much searching I decided to buy this bulb. I didn't want to get a hub - what is the point of another gadget…I was a little concerned that this bulb would not be bright enough to light up my sitting room, which is about 10 x 12', but it is more than bright enough. Even with the winter weather and dark skies I haven't had it on a hundred percent brightness. From reading reviews I expected it would take some time to set up but I set it up in minutes for Alexa. Minutes later I had it connected to my iPhone home kit.I now have an Alexa routine for bedtime that switches everything off in my sitting room. I have MS so I don't always feel like getting up to switch the light on or off.Now I can just ask Siri - thanks to the iPhone integration. And on top of that I can set the brightness according to the brightness outside.I haven't had any issues with connection that are to do with the bulb itself. The first issue I had was that my voice commands stopped working but that was because my husband had switched the light off at the wall!! The socket that the bulb is in has always been a bit loose so I lost connection one day because of that. The bulb itself is very stable and responsive.I am using a smart plug to control my bedroom lamp but I will definitely get another of these bulbs for that lamp. I will find another use for the plug I'm sure. I wondered whether I should have bought the day to dusk version but I certainly don't need it for my sitting room but might consider it for my bedroom lamp.

I bought this bulb as an upgrade to my previous Auraglow remote controlled bulb. This one has made my life so much easierDespite having some trouble connecting to the internet due to the poor WiFi upstairs, setup was fairly easy. The bulbs are set up and initialised using the LIFX app which is available for Android and iPhone. The bulb will run a firmware update when they are first connected, this takes less than 10 mins. The app works well. There are plenty of features packed into it. I use the schedule option to turn the lights on in the morning. This save me opening up the app or even taking to Google! That brings me on to the next feature, the integration with smart speakers such as Google Home and Amazon Alexa. It seem like every home has one of these! But how many are actually making efficient use of them? If you use the LIFX, you will be able to explore the potential that Alexa and Google Home have. It's as simple ss saying "Ok Google, turn the bedroom lights on" or "turn the downstairs lights on to red" (you can create groups of lights in the LIFX app e.g. one for downstairs and upstairs. These are fully customisable.Advantages- No hub required = less hassle and more money to spend on bulbs!- Bright light and vibrant colours- Integration with smart home speakers- App full of features and easy to useDisadvantages- Bulbs can sometimes disconnect from the internet if your connection is unstable. This can be resolved by installing a WiFi repeater.

The light itself is great with the brightest lumens of any smart bulb but the installation process was so awful that I was hair pulling in frustration. The reason for this is the app getting stuck on the WiFi connecting process. I was at my wit's end trying to get it to connect but it kept failing every single time. I reset the bulb multiple times to factory status, rebooted the router, installed the bulb closer to the router, opened recommended router ports, disabled the 5ghz band and changed the WiFi channels - still failure. Then however I did some more research and found this was a common issue with Lifx bulbs and had a solution. The process was:1) Put your phone into airplane mode.2)Connect to the bulb's own WiFi which you'll see showing up under networks.3) Open the Lifx app and start the installation process.4) Subsequently the bulb flashes off once which means something has worked. Previously after this bulb flash it was getting stuck on the final stage until the failure message.5) To resolve this failure to connect wait for the bulb to flash then you must very quickly close the app in android completely and reopen it.6) After being reopened the Lifx app has magically reached the success stage with the bulb fully detected and can now be controlled. This was a frustratingly unnecessary installation process which other smart bulbs do not have. I can only surmise this is a bug within the app itself.

I had recently purchased an Amazon Echo Dot and when having a mess about with the voice controls and through googling I came across Wi-Fi lights. I researched smart lighting solutions for some time before coming across LIFX on a YouTube video, and the big selling point for me was the lack of need for a bridge to control the light(s).I ordered and it arrived the next day, install is straight forward, although I did have to start the installation process over again as the LIFX app was initially unable to find my bulb. This was resolved quickly on the second attempt and I was able to identify my bulb, rename it and have a play around with the app settings.Integration with Alexa via the LIFX skill is seamless and I haven't used the light switch to control the light in months,I've had 0 occurrences where I was unable to control the light via alexa, the only time there is a brief lapse in connectivity is when the light is switched off at the light switch but when it's turned back on the connection is restored extremely quickly. One useful tip I've found is using routines in Alexa to control the light. The light only takes one voice command at a time and this can become tedious so I had a routine called "Alexa, light the room" that changes the light colour and brightness in one command.Overall extremely happy with the product and will certainly be buying again in the future.

I've used a lot of colour smart bulbs in the past, but this one blows them all out of the water. For a starters, it's base brightness in white is muich higher. And when you move to colour - unlike a lot of bulbs - it barely loses any brightness. It's quite fantastic. You also don't get just a preset selection of say 20-30 colours, but an entire colour wheel that you can choose any particular shade of colour from - and you can notice the minute changes as you move the colours around. The only downside is that the Alexa / Google Home integration is much slower to apply changes. If you use the official LIFX app, it will connect to the bulb through your local WiFi network without touching the internet at all so everything you do is practically instant. If,however, you ask Alexa / Google to do something, it instead has to go through the Alexa web service, through the LIFX web service, then back to your local WiFi network and then the bulb, so it's lot less immediate. Even with my ~400Mbp/s Virgin Media connection it can takes anywhere between 2 - 6 seconds to change. Not particularly a fault with the bulb however, just a side effect of how these digital assistants connect to the multitudes of disparate services they work with. It's just noticeab when you see how *instant* LIFX's own app applies everything. All in all, amazing bulb. It's pricey, and worth every penny.

Very bright and any colour that you want but it's disconnected from the Wi-Fi for no discernible reason more often that it's connected and it is infuriating at worst and frustrating at best and very bloody annoying.I replaced Novostella lights (due to their dimness and lack of colour making and saving options) with these LIFX ones and I never once had any connectivity issues with the old ones so I know that Wi-Fi range is not the issue, and nor do I ever have any Wi-Fi issues in general with any other devices anyway, so I know that it's this bulb in particular and it is very frustrating. And whenever it disconnects the "Need Help?" link is rubbish and not useful and very inaccessible because it just uses a lot of boffin jargon and is too boring to even mentally process, despite trying. So I'm just stuck here swearing at it because whenever I ask Alexa to change it she says that it's offline and whenever I go to change it in the app itself, it says that it's offline. This is very random, as well - sometimes it is fine, and other times it won' t connect.I am baffled as to why it only works 50% of the time instead of being 100% functioning, or 100% broken. It makes it even harder to work out what the problem even is in order to fix it! ?

I started off with a cheap smart bulb and although it was good, it just didn't put out the light I needed, so I decided to upgrade.A lot of the "usual suspects" when it comes to smart bulbs require hubs of some sort, that's ok if you're going to be lighting up a whole house, but if you only want to do one room or you're just trying it out before you invest fully, then you'd be paying a lot of money for something that won't really benefit you.Enter the LIFX. It works totally standalone so you don't need anything other than a phone to use it. Unfortunately it does require an internet connection to connect to the cloud to work, but for me that's not an issue as I'm always connected anyway. If you do lose internet connection, switching it off at the light switch will make it behave like a normal light, switching it on just turns it on as if it wasn't a smart bulb. It's as simple as any other wifi bulb I've looked at or used and it really is bright, it's easily enough to light a decent sized room, the same as a normal bulb. It works easily with Alexa and has been completely reliable for me.

The best smart light I've tried to be honest. It's very bright to the point that 100% is too much unless you have high ceilings and a shade to cover the whole bulb! The colours are bright and vibrant compared to say the Philips Hue. These are just plug and play, so no need for a hub to connect to. Just use the app on your mobile or tablet to connect to the bulb, then set it up so it can connect to your home WiFi. Once connected you can change the brightness, colour, set scenes (multiple bulbs with different colours), set 'day to night' this changes the brightness and white light (warm or cool) dependent on the time of day to mimic day light. Other bulbs do the same things and can be more compatiable with other products, but LIFX is defiantly catching up with Philips HUE as a front runner for smart bulbs.Shame they cost so much! I'd have them all over my house it every fitting if I could afford to!

I was looking for a WiFi lightbulb that didn't require a centralised hub or anything. I don't particularly want a smart home with everything in it connected to the internet. I just wanted one bedroom lightbulb that I could change the colour and brightness easily, and turn on and off using my phone from laying in bed. This is exactly what I need. In the morning when I want a very bright white light, I can have that. In the evening when I don't want blue light inhibiting melatonin production, I can have a dimmer warm shade. But if I lose my glasses I can instantly whack the lights up to 100% to make finding them easier.I'm considering getting another one for my living room ceiling, but they are very expensive; probably the most expensive WiFi bulb I've seen. I know part of that is because they don't need a hub, but it's still a lot of money.

I was worried by the small, but vocal, reviews from people saying these lose connection frequently. All I can say is, it must be their network and not the LifX bulb - I have two of these now and they work perfectly - every time. They have never lost connection, and they have been in use for many months - being turned on and off, through power cuts, even with a change of router. I can control them with my Echo Dot, with Google Home, and via some nifty home automation on my Raspberry Pi and using the app Tasker on Android. They are bright, clean, don't get hot, don't need a silly hub, responsive, pretty much everything I wanted in a smart bulb. Unfortunately they are quite pricey, so the 2 WEMO bulbs,1 Tradfri (from Ikea) and 1 TP-Link bulb will have to stay put until I can afford to move up - but without a doubt that will be to these.

A lot of up and down reviews for this on here. Used with Google nest 2 speaker and Android phone and the setup was pretty straightforward and I personally have had no problems whatsoever. Sync your phone first with the LIFX app then do your Alexa/Google Home set up after.Infinite possibilities with this bulb, the effects section of the app is particularly good and the ability to set your lighting so that it automatically adjusts to the correct type and intensity of light for that particular time of day is worth the money alone. If this all sounds too much you can just flick your light switch on and off and it will still work as a normal bulb, you don't need your phone every time. Not used in a hive set up with lots of other smart bulbs yet so cannot comment on this.
